New to the Pixel Xl and in the past have always run custom roms on my phone. Currently running Pie pure stock but rooted. Running magisk 16.7 with hide enabled. Called verizon on a tech support issue and they tried to blame the issue on me being rooted. How is verizon able to tell I am rooted? Or more to the point how can I block their ability to see I am rooted?

If you have myverizon app installed, use magisk hide on that. The device health portion of the app has root detection. If you hide my Verizon wish magisk hide, it won't show. Had same issue on sailfish, and tinkered with that, and it did the trick

Thanks for the tip, I had uninstalled the my verizon app but upon searching the service remained. So I believe you have solved the mystery. I hid root from that app and should be ok now.
Thanks again... sneaky verizon not uninstalling completely

I am running on stock rooted OF8 and can't seem to run android pay. Setting it up it says that it can't determine if it is compatible. Google wallet did work before. Anyone else run into this?
Apparently it doesn't work on rooted phones. Read some where that you can activate it and then root afterwards but haven't tried it yet.

Were i can find android pay ?
It worked for me non rooted at a vending machine. Though rooted or not at Maverick and Smiths, (3 times total) it has caused my phone to freeze after I verify my pattern lock.
Anyone having that issue?
Haven't been even able to set it up. Rooted on OF8. I'm going to flash the new build tonight and see if I can get it working before I root again and see what happens.
Use an app like RootCloak or HideMyRoot. Once you hide root you can add your cards with no problems. Using it to pay you will need to hide root again.... way too many steps for it to be convenient for me.

Where can I get a working version of either of those apps? All the ones I found doing a Google search are outdated and people say they don't work anymore.
I use Hide My Root from the PlayStore. It worked for what i needed but you cant use it for individual apps like RootCloak can. I'm odexed and can't get RootCloak going.

One of the biggest reasons why I used systemless root and stock Android was so that I could use Android Pay. All was fine and dandy for the longest time, I was passing the checks regularly.
Sometime between yesterday and last week, Safetynet Playground has been telling me I failed to pass the test. When I uninstall systemless root SuperSU it goes back to green for me. This seems to indicate that Google has updated Safetynet to detect systemless root.
For those who might not know: No there was no need to disable root before using Android Pay. No, disabling it now does not help. Yes, this worked, and I've been using it for a while now.
Can anyone else confirm this for me?

I can still add cards to android pay. I used SuperSU 2.64 and removed /su/xbin today and had no issues. Just tried that app too and I passed.

Are you on 6.0.1?
And could you clarify what you mean by removing /su/xbin? I see no such folder.
There isn't a /system/su folder
There is an /su/xbin_bind folder though.
Super edit: deleted /su/xbin_bind
Y I no read SuperSU post?
I thought it wouldn't cause problems. My bad
Is it possible to still use apps like Snapchat, bank apps, etc. when rooted/xposed installed?
If yes, does it run without issues or do I have to get some workarounds/tricks?
I'm rooted and I was able to use bank app, BUT everything depends of the devs of the app that you use. I read that snapchat doesn't work anymore on rooted phone. Also I think there was app in xposed that can hide root temporary or something. Can't say for sure because I never use it cuz I never need it, but I think is possible. Don't forget you can use adaway if you are rooted.

oh, that bad that now SC doesn't even support rooted, is there at least a way to "disable" root for some time? Some flashable zips to uninstall/install root by "current needs"?
I think there is xposed module for that but can't test because still no xposed for nougat.

I'm on s. Rom marshmallow sense, but using xposed and any module to hide root is possible (I'm using rootcloack module and works perfect) I don't use snapchat but some other apps which don't run on rooted phone , but I'm using them with above setup.
Hello
Is there any possibility to use Google Pay on rooted device with unlocked bootloader?
I have used magiskhide, but my device still can't pass safetynet test.
Any ideas?
Yes mines working fine with oos, unlocked and rooted
ok, thanks for reply!
make sure you are using the latest magisk zip and apk, it should pass the safety net
Magisk, SuperSU won't work
I have disabled xposed and now works great.
So xposed was generating problem, not rooted device with unlocked bootloader.

Hmm ok, but as i know flashing custom recovery is mandatory to root. I'm new on OnePlus but in my previous cells flashing TWRP made it impossible to OTA works (because of TWRP not a original kernel).
Hi guys,
I have found a method to run google pay with,
Xposed - active
Magisk - cts profile - false, basic integrity - false
No need to install magisk hide or shell hide.
Just a simple trick.
Video uploaded on youtube.
https://youtu.be/DV_XmlJDi2o
Why not just tell us here instead of a YouTube link?
Go to settings -> application list -> google play services -> permissions -> DISABLE PHONE PERMISSION
This works for me. Try it once.
On some Pie ROMs, it doesn't work even after passing SafetyNET and hiding root using MagiskHide. The only option here is denying the Telephone permission for Play Services and re-enable when you're done. You'll have to do this everytime you need to make a payment.
I created a Tasker module to do this everytime I launch the app. Just run the shell command in Tasker:
To disable permission:
Code:
pm revoke com.google.android.gms android.permission.READ_PHONE_STATE
To enable permission:
Code:
pm grant com.google.android.gms android.permission.READ_PHONE_STATE
yeah I have an essential ph1 and android pay will run on it just fine (pie/magisk hide) yet will not run on my oneplus 6t with stock oos/pie/magisk hide. but I'll use the telephone permission trick if I ever need to use it.

I've held on to my old Note 9 for the last 3 years to use the native mobile hotspot with my GF data on Verizon.
I picked up an unlocked Pixel 6 Pro yesterday. Tried using the mobile hotspot and getting the attached popup when trying to use out of the box.
Is this something that can be bypassed/used simply by rooting?
There is an app on the playstore called "NetShare" - basically it pulls your data and it allows you to use it as a hotspot. Read the instructions and setup the proxy settings before you can use it.
You should be able to solve the problem by rooting and using the correct modification, which may or may not be available as a Magisk Module - however, I haven't been on Verizon in five years, so I only vaguely know what others have said more recently, which I've read, and which generally matched how it's always been on Verizon.

Yes, there is a magisk module for tethering. It works very well, thought I haven't seemed to need it after dumping my pixel 4xl for the 6 pro. https://github.com/evdenis/tether_unblock
Another bypass is if you have a VPN account with someone. You turn it on in conjunction with the app VPN hotspot. Through the app, you can bypass the tethering provision of Verizon
I'm currently using VPN hotspot with a VPN provider and it's working great. Does anyone know if the magisk module posted above is a better no hassle solution?

Usually, root solutions (like the Magisk Module) are more seamless in my experience, but if that's the only reason you would root the phone, you may want to consider not doing so.
I root my phone, but I root my phone for a lot of root modifications.

Working SafetyNet with Pixel 6 Pro Android 12
This is no longer using an Unofficial Magisk app, it's the official Canary and USNF 2.2.0 1. Download the latest Magisk Canary build 2. Patch the boot.img from the Factory Images in Magisk, you'll also need the vbmeta.img if you aren't already...

I had posted in this thread tethering. I am on the original grandfathered unlimited internet plan still and don't want to change anything
for reference, this is what I did
Root your phone with magisk.
Install the Magiskhide Props Config module
Use some app that let's you have access to terminal
Type "su" for superuser rights, then type "props" to access configuring the module.
Enter 5, Add/edit custom props
Enter n, New custom prop
Enter net.tethering.noprovisioning
Enter true
Enter 2, post-fs-data
Enter y
Enter y to reboot

Is there any other cheaper ways to get unlimited hotspot to your knowledge.

No. This requires an unlocked bootloader and root. Verizon variants are locked down and will continue to be for the foreseeable future. They cannot be bootloader unlocked.
Hi,
appreciate the help.
Which models of the pixel 6 are unlocked?

The Factory Unlocked Pixels from the Google Store are the only ones you can no questions asked unlock the bootloader. Note that "Unlocked" means carrier unlocked, which is different from bootloader unlock, but with the Factor Carrier-Unlocked Pixel from the Google Store, you can unlock the bootloader any time you want.
I don't know about AT&T, but T-Mobile variants can be bootloader unlocked once you pay off the phone.
Also, note that Verizon phones are usually Carrier Unlocked, but nothing will ever allow you to unlock the bootloader on a Verizon phone.

i am also on verizon and out of the box no mods hotspot works fine and my device is unlocked
I just went through this problem with my Motorola with a GFDP. I needed to unlock the boot loader, root the device and install an app off github granting it root privs. It was painless. You still get the subscription pop up, but when using the app to turn on the hotspot, it bypasses the native hotspot enable/disable https://github.com/Mygod/VPNHotspot
Hi I'm trying to figure out how to have unlimited Verizon hotspot. Do you have any tips to share such as do you know if this method works for any unnbootlocked Android phone.
Many thanks

I think it does work for all android phones. I don't have the pixel 6 though. For my motorola I unlocked, rooted and then used vpnhotspot apk from github. Grant it root and then enable the hotspot through it to bypass the block.
