So I was thinking about picking one up on eBay to use. Can anyone tell me how the phone is performing now? Has the Display improved? How's the battery life?
It is still the best phone money can buy.
Faster than a speeding bullet!
I have been using the XL since months, my device has the blue tint, but you have to really look for it in order to see it. The speakers shrill at 100% volume, for my choice of songs at least, still hasn't been a problem. Now the good parts :
The device is awesome. Been using Android P since the first Dev preview and it is great.
Battery life is just steller. Around 5 hours of SoT.
I used to root the device the moment I took it out of the box, Nexus 6P, even the OP5 was the same. But this has stayed unrooted. Stock is for the first time just adequate for me. And seeing the pixel 3 leaks, this phone will not be replaced for another year. If you do want to get one, don't trust me, but I'd buy one considering it'd be cheaper for you now than it was for me. But the phone is just worth it. Buy a cover of you want it pristine though. Mine has scratches and dents at all corners. Won't have it any other way though.
It's a pretty perfect experience. Display is awesome and phone is fast as lighting

Yeah I've been looking at the prices and there going for around 375-450$ on eBay for a used model in good condition. I'm hoping eBay will have one of those sale's when they take 20% off everything.
Screen is slightly bluish at extreme viewing angles. Doesn't bother me even when I do see it which only when I'm trying to see it.
Performance is just fine. Very fast. No complaints.
Battery life varies. One day it will be fine. The next day similar use will result in noticably decreased battery life. After the Pie update battery life was terrible but a factory reset brought it back to what it was before.
I have had a reoccurring issue with the headphone adapter. Sometimes it won't be detected at all. Other times it will be detected but only when plugged in one way. Other times both ways work. It's the same for the stock charger. Sometimes plugging it only charges when plugged in one way but flipping it won't charge.
It's showing its age. My panda is starting to lag and freeze for about 3 seconds Evey now and then when I open an app

Ouch that sucks man but it possibly could be a rogue app? I have had mine since release day and I don't have any lockups and I have quite a few apps installed as well.
It's a possibility. But even someone like MKHD has said his pixel 2 XL has begun to lag. So I don't think it's only my device and I don't feel like wiping data to see if it helps. Someone shouldn't have to do something like that to fix their phone IMO.

I had the same issue with my charging port. Take a toothpick or a pinand clean it out. Most likely it is plugged up a bit. It's actually pretty common. Just be careful when doing it

Be careful that it isn't a Verizon model, those are bootloader locked and can't be rooted. It must be a phone that originally came straight from Google to be sure.
Maybe the doesn't care about rooting. I picked up mine on eBay when they had a 15% off sale. Couldn't pass it up @ $399 and it's been great overall. At that time the Verizon models were selling for like $490-500

It could be a batch of phones with subpar flash memory I wouldn't be shocked. I wonder if all are using Samsung storage? I know some devices have Micron for the ram. Does your device have Micron or Samsung storage and ram? You can check this information at the bootloader.

Not sure. So I would Boot into bootloader and it'll be one of the lines on the default screen? My lag isn't as bad as MKHD described it. It is noticable and does exist.

I bought a 32gb Nexus 7 (flo) from a guy off Kijiji 2 days ago. Honesty i was worried this tablet was a piece of ****, based on all the issues people are having.
-my gps has tested working perfectly
-battery life is great
-have yet to have a single reboot or freeze
-was a breeze to unlock and root
-sound is perfect
I am actually shocked at how well this thing performs overall. Guess i should be thankful based on all the posts about problems...

16 gig here working perfect.
I had a 16 GB. It appeared to have major touch screen issues (middle third of the screen wasn't responding). After 4 factory resets and some resting time, that issue seemed to have disappeared. It had no dead pixels. I didn't mess with gps. I probably didn't have it long enough to experience reboot issues. I actually ended up believing it was a pretty good one (first run d60, June). I returned it because it just wasn't that much better than my original N7.

Yeah, agree with you on the "not a big difference between the two". My brothers N7 from last year is pretty damn simaler performance wise. But, for a budget tab, i haven't seen anything better. Was torn between this and the Note 8.0... Still am as i got hooked on the s-pen lol.
In all reality however, i dont recall seeing a thread with so many "something doesn't work" posts in a long time...

Nope, have to agree with you on that. As well i dont remember (might be wrong) the power and volume buttons being so awkwardly positioned on the original. These things are hard to hit... But i ordered this case yesterday, hopefully it will guide the fingers a bit better.

The buttons. Yes, very difficult for me to use on the flo model because, like the original, they are tucked "around the bend," but they do not extend out much at all--and are quite soft. Others may prefer the new type, though.
I got mine from a guy on Craig list. I was nervous but I got it brand new and saved $50. Jesus was on my said because so far no problems I never had a tablet before I'm most impressed on battery life )

I have a 16GB that has some of the touch (not registering when grounded issues) and multitouch (when crossing axis) issues. Both are very minor, and less apparent when the screen protector is removed (which might be for good once I find a case I like).
But I did try a 32GB at two different stores, and two different build months (06/2013 and 07/2013) and both had the issues. On all models I have tested the issues is there, you just have to be precise in testing for it (test on different surfaces, with and without screen protector, etc).
So either the issue is extremely widespread, or I have incredibly bad luck
Keeping the 16GB for now because it was actually the best of the three.

16 GB here, got it 2 days before the 'official' launch from Walmart, it's a 0585 model.
Wife also has a 16GB model that we got from Walmart a few days ago.. 0585 model as well, and her experience mirrors mine.
Quick rundown of issue people are claiming:
1.) Zero Light bleed. None, zero, zilch... in fact, this is my first tablet where I have zero light bleed issues.. impressed so far.
2.) Zero GPS issues. Before some tool comes in and claims I'm not using it enough: I drove to Colorado (Eagle Area) from St Louis and back using it as navigation, via Waze. When I was on location, I used Google earth to track my location off the main paths, and used Google maps to find the hotel and a couple of restaurants while we were out there. So if you're going to claim I'm not using it enough to experience the GPS issues, please inform me how you've used yours over 2000 miles over multiple states, and programs... Only time GPS dropped out, is through the tunnels in the mountains. (Sorry for the slight rant, getting sick of some people claiming every one of these units has a problem, and when people show theirs is working fine.. they're told they're not using it enough to see the issues)
3.) Zero Screen color issues. As a photographer, color and the appearance of my photos are important. The screen color accuracy is pretty spot on, with a very slight hint on the warm side.
4.) Zero Multitouch issues... aside from when you put 10 fingers on the display.. and then the problem is that there's not enough space to accurately use 10 fingers
5.) Wifi - On par with my laptop's 6200 series for signal strength... no weirdness.
6.) Bluetooth - Aside from the quirky issues 4.3 has with *some* BT devices in general, this unit seems to perform as well as any other BT device I have.
7.) Reboots - Truth is, I've seen this once, and so has my wife. (Just once per device) On mine, I was using Living Social to see if we had any local deals to where we were at, and after scrolling the app for a few mins, the device rebooted. Since I've only seen this happen one time, I'm chalking it up to a software/app issue. The wife's happened while we were on location in Colorado.. we were reviewing a few shots on both tablets, and she had her tablet sort of wedged into a standing up (landscape) position in the car.. she claims the unit rebooted on her, but the uptime on the unit states otherwise... I suspect the screen turned off, and she assumed it rebooted.
8.) Battery - Wife's has been on battery for 4 days now (fairly idle since we got back) and is showing approximately 68% available. She's still getting notifications, and has used it to listen to music around the house.. so I don't think this is entirely accurate for idle battery life I've gotten roughly 18 hours of 'active' use out of mine (off and on, obviously) running about 30-50% brightness. As you crank the brightness on this little sucker up, the battery life does suffer. Have ran mine completely dead a few times.. not because of the battery life, really.. but because I'm lazy and can't be bothered to plug it in (even if I'm sitting right next to an outlet) half the time.
9.) Uptime - Lotta people are claiming theirs reboots an awful lot... Can't speak for that here...as of this second, I'm at 81:34:52, mainly due to my previously mentioned problem of being too lazy to charge it
So... to answer the original post question..... Nope.. no problems with 2x 16GB, heavily used, units here.
Hey guys!
So I currently have a Galaxy S6 from Verizon, and I am deeply disappointed with it. Since my bootloader is locked, I can't flash any ROMs to improve my terrible battery life. (1.5 hrs SOT, power saving location, power saving mode, auto brightness, etc. Phone still needs to be charger 2 times a day). I was thinking of either getting the OP3 or the Nexus 6P? Is anyone in the same boat as me? I'd love to bounce some ideas around and see what other's recommend.
Since this is oneplus 3 section, I think everyone will say you should get op3. I'd get it myself. Looks a lot better device.

I'm selling my Nexus 6P to buy a OnePlus 3. For me it's all about the dual SIM. Here's what I'll miss about the Nexus 6P (Great phone): QHD display. Stereo speakers at each end of the phone. Also the fingerprint sensor is great: works every time (unlike many I have tried). I hope the OP3 fingerprint sensor will be as good.

Nice, hope you like the OP3! The dual SIM doesn't matter to me, since I only travel internationally once every 2 years or so. Yeah, I feel you on the screen. I'm going to miss the camera and screen of my S6 for sure. From the videos and reviews I've seen/read, it seems like the fingerprint scanner is very good. Seems to function better than that of the S6.

Sorry, I should've clarified. The nexus is on sale in America right now. The 64 GB is going for 480 (however 32 is more than enough for me.)
I'm also considering to sell my 6p to buy the OP3. I have been kind of disappointed in the 6p because of the screen and battery life. My screen goes from a pink bottom to a yellowish top. I'd rather have a good 1080p screen then a bad QHD screen. And like somebody mentioned in the EU I can sell the 6p without paying much extra to get a brand new op3.

I am confused too. I own a 64gb Nexus 6p. Disappointed with sd810. Heats too much while gaming. But the quicker official android updates and dual front firing speakers are awesome. I''' loose better camera too. Though I'll get sd820 and 6gb ram and I will make profit if I sell my 6p and buy op3. Really confused :-/
The problem is mainly the size and price. You get a bit smaller device for less money. Actually i dont like 810 serie, so i would probably stick to OP3 since they open to modding after errors with OP2. Probably 6P is better on CAM+Speakers and MAYBE screen.
I also have a Nexus 6P.
- It's REALLY big.
- I don't like the back fingerprint sensor
I'm considering to switch to the OP3 too..... but Nexus updates are every month and i would like to have android pay work with a rooted phone.....

In the same boat bro. Tell me if you make any decision. I can profit by selling 6P and buying Op3 currently.
What I'll miss if I switched is stereo speakers and quick latest updates !
I was happy with my 6p for a bit, then the crappy aluminum(bent near the charging port) and screen brightness got to me. Should not have to root to see the thing outdoors.

If you want to sell it because of screen issues, then I will advice you to wait for reviews of the screen on the Oneplus 3 to see if it has no isues.
Beside the battery i would say that the 3 wins nearly ever, aspect.
The problems i have with the nexus is that they are released only a short period before qualcom releases jts new CPU and then i always want to wait to get a devoce with the new cpu.
I am seriously considering this option due to the poor battery life and scratch issues. Anyone else on the same boat? Just curious to know what made you think about returning the device?

I am on the fence myself. The locked bootloader and an uncertain future regarding even a reliable root has me concerned. T-Mobile is slowly turning into the carrier I left (VZW) for them.
I believe I am going to be returning. I still have 9 days to be within my 14 day return period for Verizon. I am just overall not very impressed with the phone. I came from an iPhone 6s. The only things I have been enjoying more are the larger screen and the fact that it is ip68 resistant. I haven't been using the s-pen as much as I thought I would and the overall user experience for me just hasn't been as satisfying as I had hoped. I am also very, very unimpressed with battery life.
I think I'm going to return the the 6s and wait to see what Apple offers in a few weeks with the new iPhone. If not that, then I'll wait till early next year for another Samsung device possibly. Probably won't pre-order again either. Let others get their experience in and find out the faults of the phone before I go through ordering myself.

This is always the case regarding root and locked bootloaders concerning Samsung phones in recent years, my friend. I have been using this phone without a case and love the ergonomics of the phone. I use it mainly for business and an iPhone 6s Plus as my personal. The S-pen comes in handy with signing docs, smart select is useful, and note taking in general. I have not been happy with battery life compared to the Moto Z Force I put in the drawer for this. Overall I'll more than likely keep it because it suits my needs with business.
My screen has uneven backlighting and there is no other stock still for the phone. I will not keep a defective phone which is why I'm considering it, I am overall impressed with the device considering its features. It's a little slower than some other android phones I have used like the oneplus 3 and the nexus 6P. I think I would keep it otherwise.
SOT > 6h
No battery draining issues.
Phones are as snappy as it can be.
I suggest if you have lag issues, go to your friendly neighbourhood carrier outlet and have your device checked or exchanged.
I am using an international exynos FD model.

The battery life is bugging me a lot. Also, the stuttering is stupid for such an expensive phone. Lastly, it isn't enough for me to leave my iPhone. I know.. i know... the iPhone just worked. Thats it.
Anyone talking Iphone on this thread is looking for a reason to go back to that "limited" format. My device works perfect! The only battery issues i have is with my GearS2
Glass back? Broke in 16 hours. Idiotic and really, gorilla Glass? Dropped it maybe 2.25 ft. From sitting down and it shattered. Thought shattered anything was an iPhone issue. Have had nothing but Samsung since the first note. Never a case issue till 2 feet ago.
Stupid. Glass back? Who the **** cares about the back

My Note 7 battery lasts more than 2 days with SOT 8 to 9 hrs with a lot of web browsing.

Agreed this is the 1st note with good battery life. The device itself though is physically just too fragile. Samsung front, iPhone back. They testify it has gorilla glass in the back but .....

Literally just packed my Note 7 back into its box, and being returned later in the morning. Didn't even last me a full week unfortunately. I truly wanted to love this phone, I really did, but the amount of lag that this phone suffers from is just unacceptable for its high end price.
Having high hopes now for the LG V20, and the new Nexus...

Yes, i am holding back on the Note 7 to see what the LG brings. Looks promising so far.
HELL NO. Just got the LED case and I love it. This phone is awesome.
If only samsung would reply to my emails about the Gear Fit 2.... I submitted the redemption but no response...

Zero clue how you are getting that long of SOT. That is nuts. I decided not to return the phone anyway, but the best SOT I have seen so far is around 4 hours. Is there anything you have done specifically to increase your SOT. 9-9 hours is really a lot.

I will also hold up and now seriously thinking on keeping the S7 Edge which literally is the same phone... i too had hopes that diminished sadly. For years a fan of the Note's series..
I ve written an article about why the OnePlus 3 is the better phone to get here.. and why Samsung has let us down again.

Before any of you return your Note 7 for battery issues, please try the steps in the following link. I along with most others had these same issues with the S7E and now many of us get 2 days and 9 hours SOT with one charge.
Follow these steps and report back.

Thats a garbage post mate. A lot of users do even more than this. Even with 129 disabled apps / services I dont need, disabled GPS, all of the random sensors in settings, and SOO much more.. I should be getting more SOT than 6.5.

My house is pretty damn cold some times lol.
Dear XDA,
So for deciding on which phone I want to get to replace my note 7, i decided to do a bit of research, here is some background:
So my device history is as followed: Acer Liquid --> Galaxy Nexus --> Galaxy Note 3 --> Galaxy Note 7.
My usage is as followed:
-Used the phone for calling, texting, social media, etc.
-Media consumption using a 1440p screen for youtube, netflix, and some native HDR contant, music using lossless files with poweramp and music streaming with spotify
-Heavy 3D games, emulators, and pokemon Go, etc.
-Using hpc applications, loading compute payloads using otg, gnuroot to run workstation applications (programming, scripts, sensor data, machine vision, etc.); Use for on the go work but mostly a side/independant work
-Using drafting application on native andriod and linux (part of the previous point)
-Used fingerprint and iris scanner, SD card encryption, phone encryption during start up, secure folder, etc.
-Used all samsung features
-Listen to music using a 3.5mm jack at home and bt headphones on the go/gym
-Taking pictures, videos, using slow mo (editing them to)
-etc.
So, to summarize : I love media consumption and media capture with the phone, I use every feature my Note 7 has and I would love to use newer features to. Battery life should be well and I love expandable storage. I use my phone for emulators, Pokemon Go, other high graphic (for a phone that is) game, spotify, data storage and transfer (for my work files and such), and I do use some "High Performance" application on the phone such as Autocad, Matlab , gnuroot Debian and other analysis software and even computing by uploading payloads via usb otg (as a hobby and sometimes to complete work on the go). I also love using root access (but if I can get most root features without rooting the phone it be great). With all that, I also use the phone like any other person such as for social media, phone calls (omg I know ), test messaging etc.
For the future: I would use Android wear/samsung gear s3, wireless charging, etc.
So currently on my note 7 I am getting a sot of 5h and 54 min (so ~6hrs on my nerfed battery, this was at 3% left) Link: https://imgur.com/gallery/bfYCO
And my Antutu score is 141851 Link: http://imgur.com/wMPXRAK
So my questions for you Pixel XL owners (and for people that went to pixel xl from the N7): How is the SOT? Can I get 6 hours easily with heavy use? How is standby time? How is its raw performance for my special use case? Hows benchmarks (i did try to run antutu on a retail model at got about 139000)? Also is the usb-c a 3.0 or 2.0? Transfer speed and communication via usb matter for faster otg workloads so thats why I asked, i believe my note 3 was a 3.0 and the note 7 was a 3.0? how is the camera really? How are low light shots compared to N7? Also is Display Port over type-c possible on the pixel xl?
Bumpidy bump bump?
Ps. Does the pixel lack usb host? I use that :/
usb host - yes
usb 3.0 - yes
SOT - should be no problem coming from the note, battery life on the XL at least is fantastic
Camera - I like the pixel camera every bit as much as the one on the note, probably more. Low light is fine once you get the hang of it. Any sort of case does cause issue with refractions from the flash, if you have flash on.
I can't give you hard numbers but without a doubt this is the best SOT I've ever had. Coupled with the fastest charging I've ever seen I don't think there is a better battery life phone at this performance level out there.
Def does better than the Note 7 so if that worked for you, don't hesitate.
Display over c is not yet confirmed but i doubt it. They may lean on chromecast wireless. I dont know how you are power using a samsung device because you have no root! This phone is a must for power users. Not to mention there are hardly any manufactures allowing for an unlockable bootloader, with the google lineup being the last of them at this point not looking at some phones international models.
Not to mention I have yet to see a phone match the camera quality of the lg (g4,g5,v10,v20) lineup, the manual shooting on those phones are GODLIKE. So if you havent maybe give the v20 a look but again its bootloader is going to be locked

Okay!! Most sites say the pixel lacks usb host mode (different from otg). Also so the whole halo effect is due to flash?

I did look at the V20, the non amoled coupled with lense cracking and it falling behind in speed test really disappointed me. Oh and the v20 lacks usb host to, I use usb host for usb devices such as external sensors and for usb amps. Also I usually root after my warranty is done, and most of my apps dont require root, even for gnuroot (despite its name )
I stand corrected, seems the pixel does have usb host mode, please ignore that.
So I am actually considering the pixel over the s7 edge. Guys anything I should keep in mind or expect? My pure android (i.e. Google) experience are from my galaxy nexus and nexus .

I will say that my first days into Android I loved the HTC skins, and always hated pure vanilla android. Always ran roms that were based off stock skins vs vanilla Android. That started to change when I got a Samsung S4. As Android progressed I found manufacturers custom stuff was more gimmicks than actually useful. Nexus device and now pixel XL I won't do anything except android straight from Google. You will appreciate it. And I'm really digging Google Assistant. Battery life is good, radio is far better than the nexus or the S7(my wife has an s7). If your are looking at the S7 edge than definitely going with the Pixel XL for comparison.
Can't give you numbers. Sorry. My device history is close, but I started with an EVO. I've had two note 7's and a 7Edge in the last 5 weeks. Now the pixel Xl. I love it!!! I rooted, years ago, for battery life primarily, and this phones battery life smokes them all.

The only thing I couldn't deal with that I thought I could, coming from the Note 7 to Pixel XL was the rear fingerprint reader. I don't keep my phone in my hand or pocket much. It's usually sitting on my desk being used as a music streaming device, so I need to get to the screen many times a day to check notifications, change songs, etc.... I am connected to our corporate email server which forces a security policy that forces lockscreen settings and such that I can't change. Having to enter a 5 digit code to unlock the device many times a day got really old after a week.... or having to pick the darn thing up over and over just to flip it over to use the print scanner and back over to use it.... There's no way I can deal with that for 2 years so I returned it and am currently ordering the S7 Edge. It will hold me over until the Note 8.
Everything else about the Pixel XL was fantastic. I gave it a week, I loved it at first, day after day that dang fingerprint scanner annoyed me.... it got to where I was using one hand to tilt it over at a 45 degree angle and sticking my finger under it to unlock it.... and then lay it back down. Completely ridiculous that this, or a 5 digit unlock code, or picking it up are my only options. With my Note 7 I could simply press the home button with my finger and it read it at the same time. Boom. Unlocked and ready to use without even looking at it.... that one simple functional detail made all the difference for me.

Well between the N7/S7E and the pixel, what things have improved? Whats your use case? Is it similar to mine? Its a plus to be able to root but I usually root at the end of the product cycle, most of my apps play nice with Android and don't need root while still supplying performance.

Between the Pixel XL and the S7 edge baring the finger print scanner location, hows performance?
Also I have two more questions for anyone:
-Does the pixel work with ps3/ps4/xbox one controllers via otg? (I wanna use it for emulators on the go)?
-Is the SD 821 performing at peak frequency or does the phone thermal throttle hard like samsung phones? (All my samsungs ran warm to hot, i just expect this from the samsung phones I have used, including my galaxy nexus)

Nerfed meaning after samsung pushed the 60% battery capacity.
Sorry for the confusion!

Actually I haven't rooted it yet and so far so good. Battery life has improved tremendously and I'm not sure I can speak to my usage compared to yours. That's pretty subjective. The fingerprint scanner is is nice. The battery charges Superfast which is nice. With the Note 3 I carried two spare batteries and with this phone I might look for a wall plug once a day and that's generally very late in the day. Sorry I couldn't give you more specifics but I hope this helps. The camera seems to be much faster also and the photos better quality. The assistant works well. If you decide to keep your Note 7 I've got a couple Chargers and cases that I no longer have use for. LOL

Is that your original or replaced note 7? Anyway i bought an s7 edge since the Samsung store gave me a 100 dollar off.
has any info leaked out on who is making the screens for the pixel 3 and pixel 3 xl? last year wasn't it LG for the XL and Samsung for the pixel 2? does that trend continue this year? I know LG needs to step up their game on many fronts for the mobile displays, especially OLED tech, but wondering if Samsung is making either display for the Pixels. the power consumption for Samsung OLED is great and less likely to burn in.
Lg again... Apparently
Where do you get apparently from? Many reasons Google should go for Samsung on the XL version but corporations and their pennies. If I had image retention right after I bought the phone, especially not using high brightness often, I would not be a returning customer. LG LCDs apparently are very bad too. You should see the ridiculous burn in and image retention on the V20. That kind of IR is hard to do with LCD but apparently LG aced it.

I honestly don't think Samsung has time right now to build another screen for another phone. They are building s9, s9+, note 9 and all the iPhone screens right now. I'm not sure they can throw a pixel device into the mix now. I'd be willing to bet they are behind right now on screens

Samsung is an absolutely super mega insanely massive company. I'm sure they have the resources to make screens for their phones plus many others.
techradar was one site that reported that the pixel 3xl would have an lg screen. That is an old rumor, haven't heard otherwise though. I'm betting it will be a good one who ever makes it. We'll know soon.

They said in the event that the screen would self-optimize for better viewing at all angles. Some other thing they said about it too. Hoping that means the screen will be a lot better than the 2 xl.

Interesting that Anandtech has the screens listed as AMOLED on the small one and P-OLED on the large one. This seems like last year but I'm wondering if Anandtech didn't just assume this.

You are correct. The smaller pixel 3 does not have the shift. It funny how everyone who says the PXL3 does not have the shift is not angling the phone while on a screen with a white background so you can check the blue shift !! Thats the most telling way to see the blue.
There was no shift so how do you know there's still a problem?
