Hi, was wondering if anyone could do a Mi max 2 Gcam HDR+ vs Mi max 3 Gcam HDR+ front and rear camera comparison? I would like to see the maximum potential of these two cameras to see how much it has improved and whether I should get this or just keep the Mi Max 2? Thank you!

Only a few people may have both of these phones and even fewer probably use gcam on them so I would not be to optimistic about someone posting a comparison. I have used the gcam mod on many different devices from Xiaomi and the results has more or less been the same. I would guess that Max 2 and Max 3
produce very similair results when using the gcam mod. Photo quality from smartphones are like 90% software optimization and 10% camera hardware quality.

Not at all. I owned a Redmi 5 Plus and Huawei Mate 10 at the same time. I prefered the low light photos from 5 Plus with gcam even tough Mate 10 has way better camera hardware.

It's true, I guess it was worth a shot. I'm only asking because I checked the mi max 3 vs pixel 2 gcam comparison on XDA the other day, and IMO the mi max 3 was better than the pixel 2 in almost all the shots, I was shocked myself, so I wanted to know if it improved by a lot when compared to the mi max 2.

In January I posted a comparison between Redmi 5 Plus and Mi 5S, using the ported gcam app on both phones.
https://www.flickr.com/photos/[email protected]/albums/72157692005458944
Even though Mi 5s has a "much better" image sensor, the photo quality was very close IMO. The reason? As I said earlier, the photo quality from smartphone cameras is mostly about software optimizations.
IMO all phones produce more or less the same results when using Gcam and HDR+. You may find minor differences here and there, but not any large differences.
I'm waiting Max 3 6G/128G. As I know Max 3 has all Samsung camera sensors which are more compatible with GCam so result will be better. HDR+ processing speed also improved on higher performance Max 3
I got both phone. And also the third one, the mi max prime, first of all! ^^.
All are rooted. But i'm in vacation. So... You need to wait. But I can allready said that mi max 3 cam is more more capable that cam of the mi max 1...

The stock one. I have trouble with magisk module and i'm unable to install camera2api...
I have both Mi Max 2 and 3, both with GCam installed (but different versions)
The Max 3 has more/different GCams available (that don't crash), and thus has better quality

You should do yourself a favor and install a custom OS anyways, and have your phone rooted
One of the reasons I prefer Android is rooted apps that give me a more pleasant experience, like Adblock, custom keyboard add-ons, Xposed
It also takes 1 second to apply the Gcam patch if your phone is rooted

MIUI is getting alot better these days with all those extra features too.
we pretty much only need a custom kernel to squeeze more juice / performance from it and that's it.

Does the Mi5s Plus support full "stereo" photo shooting mode like the Redmi Pro?
Focusing after the shot, blur tune for background and 3d effect?
That would be fantastic
Do You have some kind of camera comparison with other phones ? I'm really looking into this phone but I'm preety concerned about lack of OIS. I would like to buy Mi5s but I need good photos. Better than my OP2 though....

True, but sensors are different
Jerkiness might occur, but there will also be some differences in picture and video quality between Mi5s and the plus variant~ :3
The Mi 5s Plus uses a different camera than the Mi 5s.
The Mi 5s Plus uses a dual sensor system while the Mi 5s uses a regular one sensor system. I'm fairly certain that the camera on the Mi 5s is better in most scenarios than the Plus variant just because of the sensor and aperture size.

Since almost all custom ROMs for the MI 6 use the standard MIUI camera app it really doesn't matter which ROM you choose.

Does it all come down to the app though? Surely the missing MIUI libraries in AOSP ROMs negatively impact on picture quality.
i see the camera on Mi Note 3 has hardware same as Mi6
so why the photos taken by Mi Note 3 better than Mi6?

Hello guys,
I need your honest opinion.
I need to get a new device. I only use blackberry old phone at this moment.
I am thinking of mi 6 or mi A1? Which one do you think is better?
I am thinking a1 for the price and stock android (what I love with oneplus before) but I like also to have snapdragon 835 and EIS for camera.
EIS also affect the quality of normal photos or videos only? I have shaky hands by the way.
Please advice.
Pricing:
mi a1 = 749 aed
mi 6= 1399 aed
Thanks guys

Which custom ROM would you recommend? I couldn't find any with a battery performance and camera as good as the original one...
Mi 6 is flagship grade. A1 is midrange grade. The answer is very obvious.
imo
Brother! I have both the me A1 and the Mi 6 and the MI6 is so awesome and way better than the A1. Don't get me wrong, I like the A1 but the Mi 6 is so much faster and has many custom roms. If you look for the Mi A1 right now in the XDA forums there are no ROMs as of yet! The size of the Mi 6 is also much better than the size of the A1! I promise you brother!! You cannot go wrong with Mi 6!. It is an absolute pleasure to hold and to use!! And the dual firing speakers makes this a special beast! I personally love the MI6. I am selling my Mi A1
mi 6 is the best choice bro, good luck
Yep I had both the mi 6 was smaller in hand and snappier. Battery life similar on miui. Cam was also better
Mi6 my choice
I'd say if stock is more important to you and you dont mind weaker hardware - Mi A1.
You can install custom rom on mi6, but there will be bugs.
When my nexus died, I needed a replacement phone quick and A1 was not available. Having played with mi6 for a few month now, I'd probably bought A1 if I had a choice... or OnePlus5

Basically two reasons:
I used custom aosp rom on nexus 4 when official support ended and while it works, you need to jump through some hoops to get everything working and wipe the phone (cba).
There is no Oreo roms. Updates will be late at least and most likely there will be bugs.
I know I should just get a pixel, but google has some issues with displays it seems.

Regular sized pixel 2 display is fine. Just the XL if seems.
So don't let it put you off.
Gf has it and is very happy and it is a little bit better than my mi 6 for software updates etc.
Performance is barely better like scrolling in chrome looks nice but google on Google will always be better with their optimizations.
If you need a performance device get one with the SD 835 its an amazing chip.
Blazing fast and no heat even on custom ROMs on Mi 6

Hey there,
I've been using my redmi note 5 pro for more than a week now, and straight up the camera packed on this thing is really good. But for a tech YouTube like me, who compares this phones with the top flagship devices, the results are inconsistent.
First off I compared it with iPhone X, and was shocked with the results. The redmi note 5 pro performed so much better than the iPhone X. Now some people may say that comparing the two is not fair as there is a humongous price difference between the two. But xiaomi itself said that the phone was a natural competitor with phones like iPhone X and Google Pixel 2.
SO I HAD TO COMPARE IT WITH GOOGLE PIXEL 2 XL. But the results weren't so good. When compared to pixel's images, note 5 pro's images look washed out and soft. But it didn't lack completely back, as note 5 packing a bigger aperture did a little better than pixel 2 in low light situations, but again the results were pretty inconsistent. So at the end of the day no one can match Google's amazing algorithms of HDR+.
But I think if someone can port the Google camera in note 5 pro it will perform so much better as these two device pack almost identical camera hardware.
I'm not sure if camera 2 api is fully unlocked in this phone, can somebody please tell me how to do it. Do I just need to download the Google camera apk from the internet? I'm really curious to see how the redmi note 5 pro will perform with Google camera's algorithms.
Peace
You need to unlock your bootloader first and than flash twrp and magisk and than you can enable camera api 2 by editing Build.prop

Pixel has a bigger aperture, also with a larger pixel size than the note 5 pro... low light won't be better on the note 5 pro.
I rooted, enabled camera 2 api, installed google camera....but Google camera images had a lot of noise compared to stock camera(you can see noise on zooming into the pic)

perhaps it is necessary to install modified driver for the camera. (if this exists).
in youtube i saw a video that teached where find and install the driver, then install google camera on a note 4.
the difference in the photo (with original driver and with modified driver + google camera) was remarkable.

The second camera in rn5p is a depth sensor! So the primary lens does all the work and gcam will only use the primary lens ! So why wont it make the images better.
Though for A1 both lens Gcam has been ported at it works great!!!

The problem is it has some real issues with the image being extremely choppy and focusing not working well up close
