So... I just upgraded my Pixel 2XL to Android 9.0, Pie.
I "dirty flashed" through TWRP, re-installed TWRP, installed ElementalX Kernel, and then Magisk.
Everything was working fine, but I missed the custom column count that I had for 8.1, so in Magisk I installed "Persistent Quick Settings Tiles for Oreo", and that only changed the "minimized" QuickLaunch, and set it statically to 10. I decided I didn't like it, and deactivated and removed the module via Magisk. The problem is, now my minimized Quick Launch bar has 10 icons across, and I couldn't get it back to normal. After that I installed "Shortcutter Quick Settings, Sidebar & Shortcut's" from the Play store, which manually let me set the size to anything else (indicating it's experimental, etc.), so I set it to 8, which is awesome.
Now for the problem.
Today, when I woke up, the minimized Quick Launch Tiles are completely blank. They function, because the last one is screen rotation, and if I tap the empty space it toggles the setting, but it's completely blank all the way across. I took a screenshot that I can post later.
Any idea on how to remedy this? I've tried rebooting, and changing with Shortcutter to a different value, I even tried re-flashing Pie over my existing installation, but no dice... I'd really like the functionality back, and ideally I'd REALLY like to not have to factory reset.
Here is the screenshot...
Sorry to revieve a year+ old thread, but this just happened to me on my Pixel XL. Was there any solution you found to correct it? I plan to update from 9.0 to 10 tonight, but have the fears it wont fix it as well.

So... I did solve this issue, and for the life of me I can't remember what I did. I think I had to mess with substratum. I wish I could be of more help. For what it's worth, I upgraded my Pixel 2XL to 10 and haven't seen any issues.
Are you rooted / with substratum, etc?
Thanks for your reply. I am rooted (Magisk) but I don't use substratum. I use the swift installer. Im still going to update. I just wish I knew what the cause of this was.

I know this isn't going to be helpful, but I do remember that the solution was odd. I'm pretty sure that it wasn't related to anything that would make sense with the quick launch icons. I remember it being some odd piece of software that I was using and I removed it, and everything went back to normal. Maybe that jobs your memory?
I was wondering if it was an app that updated today. But i ruled it out as to why would that cause it ya know. But if you recall it being odd. I'll start there and see what happens.

So, I flashed the Sept. Pie update WITH the -w. Some things were being screwy so it just needed to happen. So, got the phone setup and started the restore from Google backup. It's been sitting at the same spot (like barely any color on the left side...) for almost 3 hours now... Has this happened to anyone else? I don't see the option to restore in settings, maybe it's just not showing because it's currently trying to restore, but, I think I need to start it over if possible. Never had this problem during setup, so, I'm not sure it is. It also has never taken 3 hours to complete, let alone hardly do anything.
Let me know if anyone has any know on this!

9. I rebooted the phone and still could not find an option to restore. Even Google'd it. Nothing. Doing a factory reset now. So stupid. Why would there not be an option to restore in settings? Only immediately after a reset? Bah
It appears the second reset and setup/restore is working. Weird. Anyway, glad it's actually going to work! I thought I might be setting it back up completely.

If this were a Samsung phone, I would say absolutely to that. But, nah, I don't think so. Pie just came out, there's probably a few little weird bugs left to fix yet.
Now I can't get my Gear S3 to finish setting up though... I thought the compatibility was fixed. Not sure what to do? God I can't wait for new Wear OS watches (with the new chip). No more Samsung for me ever again.
This just happened to my phone for whatever reason. The bottom portion of my screen (where navigation is located) will not work any longer. I know the touchscreen is still working, because i can scroll down a website and it still will recognize touch but not if I am trying to use the navigation buttons. I have tried gesture, 2/3 button but none of them work. I even flash a stock image (didn't do a full wipe just unrooted it) to see if this would fix. If anyone has a fix for this please let me know.
Thanks!

I came here to see if anyone else was having the same issue! Yes, i have to hit the docked icons several times before they open. wasn't an issue a day or two ago......
Sucks but glad to see i'm not alone. must've been some kind of play services update or something that broke it.

Yep having the same issue. The dock icons aren't always working, but the screen does because I can still scroll everywhere.
I also noticed that not all of my screen is being used. I black bar bezels on the sides of my screen. Looks like a full reset is inbound when I get home.
Ok, i was on plays services 19.4.20 and updated to the beta and now this is fixed!
Here is the beta version from apk mirror: https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/google-inc/google-play-services/google-play-services-19-5-28-release/google-play-services-19-5-28-120400-273329419-android-apk-download/
you can install this app to quickly check your version. it used to link right to apk mirror but they took the functionality out unfortunately: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.weberdo.apps.serviceinfo
whew - glad that was an easy fix! hopefully it doesn't auto-update and break it again or something.
This has been going on with me since a mid september update. JUNK PHONE this pixel 3!!! First phone by google that I really hate. Contacted google about that, they asked me to clear all cache from the UI, play, etc... I still have the same issue...
I have stock, no root.

Personally first big issues that I have had with the phone. I just full restored and am restoring everything from the built in backup now. It fixed the issue though so at least i don't have to buy a new phone lol.

I tried this and no dice. Had to full wipe and restore. Oh well. Glad it worked for you however!!!!
So been loving this phone so far, one of the most fastest phones I have ever owned, and great battery life.
So a few quirks.
1 I can't access or mount data while in TWRP, so I am unable to do a backup of my phone, or install images unless I plug in an OTG. I can try and check the data box in mount, but it will not check. I tried this with no security on the phone, and with security decrypted in TWRP.
2 When I installed Magisk I also installed the "ExSDCard Access Enabler" module. When I plug in the OTG to run Titanium Backup, both mobile phones have no service. And what is with the OTG Storage Switch in settings, does that do the same thing as "ExSDCard Access Enabler" module?
3 I am using Nova Launcher, and I am not able to display things like Weatherbug or Weather Underground temperature in the notification bar like I used to with all of my other phones?
Well that is about it for now, if anyone has any thoughts?
Regarding #3, I use Nova Launcher and Weather Underground, and the temperature icon shows in the notification bar. Maybe check the notification settings? Or the power consumption settings for the app in case it's "sleeping"?
Regarding #1, there is no TWRP for this phone. There is something being worked on that boots I think but doesn't actually work. I would go back to the stock recovery unless you are trying to do work on it. The problem, however, isn't with the OnePlus 7T specifically. It's Android 10. Even the Pixel 4 doesn't have TWRP as far as I know.

Is that the persistent notification, or the one in pull down? The pull down works for me.
I turned of battery optimization, closed the app, and cleared the cache, still not working.

You can boot twrp in ram, with "Tool all in one." That is how I installed Magisk. I wanted to make a Data backup of my phone in TWRP.
I guess I never did anything on my Pixel since upgrading to 10, I was not aware. And like you said, can't access Data in TWRP on Pixel either.
#2 works fine without the ExtSD module, I guess I don't need that. But still no mobile service with the OTG plugged in.

Here's the status bar notification setting for my Weatherbug Elite, does it look like yours?
I just realized that I'm no longer getting the temperature on my status bar either. Uninstall/reinstall and still nothing on the status bar.
I reinstalled my Weather Underground and the temp is there. Must be something broke with the last WB update. Unfortunately I can't locate Support on their website.

Great! That worked, thank you. :good:
I tried a different OTG adapter, and it did not kill my cell signals. I will find out later when I run Titanium Backup if stays that way.
Anyway to make the vibration more noticeable in this phone? I miss notifications in noisy areas.
Thanks
Seems weak vibrations are a common problem across the entire oneplus line up, lots of complaints in the Oneplus forums.
S21fe updated to UI5.
Couple of issues.... Fingerprint reader sometimes doesn't work when phone hasn't been used for some time. When it happens I need to double tap the screen to wake it up and then scan my fingerprint again.
Also "back" gesture (where I swipe up from the right bottom of the screen) sometimes instead of going back brings up the list of background apps.
Both issues very annoying.
Anyone else experienced anything similar?
Try clearing the system cache. Double check all settings. If that flaws things get more complicated...
A factory reset may be needed, but hard to say if it will resolve the issues. Someone will need to try the latter if the former doesn't work. A global reset of settings is a less drastic option but it may not be enough and still take a lot of time.
This is one reason why I spurn upgrades on a platform that's fulfilling its mission. Lol, I'm still using UI 1.5, no glaring issues.
Unfortunately with latter versions an upgrade may resolve flaws in earlier post >1.5 variants. Tough choice once you are on Android 11 as there's no roll back on stock Samsung's for that. I wasn't locked into using 11 on my N10+'s and never will load it. 12 is even worse.
Roll back is an option for you if bootloader wasn't upgraded too. Eventually Samsung will fix it if it's a firmware/software glitch but don't hold your breath for that

That may not be enough if going from 11 to 12, etc.
Rule #1 - if the OS is fast, stable and fulfilling its mission let it be! You have little to gain and a lot to lose. Although there was a big security hole in 12, not sure if it was patched already or if the patch is in what you just install. Oddly that hole isn't in 9-11.
Gookill is a mess...
I have the same problem with fingerprint unlocking. It simply doesn't work (if I press the side button, it works). Some hours ago I wiped the system cache and after that, I didn't notice the described problem. I will see in the next few hours.
Now I changed "Fingerprints -> Show icon when screen is off" to "Tap to show" instead of "On always on display" which was the default after the upgrade to Android 13.
UPDATE: The phone still has the same problem. Sometimes it simply doesn't allow it to unlock with a fingerprint. The screen is locked as hell. Only the side button unlocks it.
If you go to Lock screen>Always On Display>Show always, does that solve your problem? Mine was set to "show for new notifications" only and the fingerprint icon would disapperar after locking it.
Mine was set to "Show for new notifications". As you suggested, I changed it to "Show always" and we will see, how it works. In my opinion, it is better to show display only when something happens. But something changed and problems occurred.
Report: it didn't help. I have found out that the issue appears if the phone is locked for a while and then a notification comes. This is the reason why this problem exists also while using Android Auto. It creates a notification when it connects ... and then the phone can be unlocked with a fingerprint until the side button is pressed. I'm sure this is a bug that didn't exist before the upgrade to Android 13.
no such issues here with the eu version. definitely an upgrade in every way.
After 3 days with Android 13 on snapdragon variant, only two minor issues found here : slow charging (2h20 from 0 to 100, less than 2h before) and an "unauthorized action due to modified device" screen when rebooting, disappearing by touching "OK" button. Don't know what is unauthorized but... well. I was rooted before, now stock unrooted and relocked bootloader. It doesn't seems to lock something, everything I use is working.
I have the same fingerprint issues after updating to UI5 (unlocking from turned off screen). Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. It worked perfectly before I updated, didn't change any settings. Very annoying, hopefully it will be fixed in a future update.

The link I provided and the one you did refer to the same thing. Only difference is my link also provides a way to do it via ADB. In any event, thanks for your response.
So.. recently i've got this problem where i can't pull my notification bar when you on other apps. But, if you're on homescreen, you can pull notification bar with no problem at all. Another weird thing is, you can pull the notification bar when you put your phone on landscape mode. Been asking this problem on local Poco Community but none of the tips works. Been looking on website, and it state you can fix this by resetting the system settings (not full factory reset). Sadly, I can't find that option on my Poco F3. Only total factory reset
Since you can only attach picture here. I'll put the video link below , hope you guys can see the problems easier

Are you using a glass protector? It can mess with the gestures sometimes if it is not applied correctly. Also, try pulling down from as high up as you can. Also try changing to the old control center style and see if that works.

Didn't use any. Been trying pulling up. It miracly fixed around 11AM without doing anything. And now 10PM it started to happens again. This bug really feustate me
I think you will have to back up your data and do a factory reset. If that doesnt work, i would suggest unlocking your bootloader and installing a custom rom like xiaomi.eu if you like miui or crdroid/evolution x if you prefer an AOSP based rom. That will probably fix it for you. If you are not familiar with the whole custom rom scenario and dont want to take any risks, just take it to a xiaomi store and see what they can do.
