How to transfer Data through USB in Windows? - Xiaomi Mi A2 Lite Questions & Answers

Hi Guys,
As the last step of getting my new A2 Lite ready to be used i wanted to transfer music and pics from my old phone through usb to the A2L. But it seems like the A2L doesnt allow the PC to transfer stuff to the phone, even though the phone is set to "transfer data through usb" (translated, my phone says that in my language). I get some kind of error sound in the PC.
What settings do i have to change, to be able to copy music from my old phone to the new one on PC?
Thx für help
Edit: i figured it out. @admin delete this thread

I had to first put my music on the PC and from there put it on the A2L. I could not directly transfer it from one phone to the other. Maybe it is obvious, but i didnt knew that...

To copy music from your old phone to the new one on PC, try mobile transfer tool. First connect them to computer via usb cables, start the mobile phone tool. A few minutes later, you can directly transfer data between them.

Is that just a general "mobile transfer tool" most of which seem to be paid apps or is there something free that works as well?
Or is dragging to PC and then to new phone better (given you have a PC)?

Backup phone - smashed screen unable to choose MTP transfer mode.

Hello guys I've had some bad luck recently and I've dropped my phone and completely smashed the screen so, I'm looking for a way to fully back up my phone, including apps, app data, messages etc I would ideally like all the databack however if I can't then I'll have to live with it.
Lucky I have USB debugger mode enabled so I can get to the phone via adb shell, however the xperia software won't connect to the phone unless its MTP mode, the phone is currently in charging only atm, I looked using the adb shell and it it says the following usb modes are enabled MTP and ADB however sony software won't connect.
Could anyone help me please backup the data.
Thanks, Mr. Pineapple
Do you have an USB OTG cable? You can connect a mouse and use the phone normally and enable mtp. If not, try to install some VNC server or similar vía adb

I have no idea how I would be able to do this, do you have any good guides?
I also broke my screen last Christmas and using an OTG cable (https://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias=aps&field-keywords=usb+otg), which is a converter from normal usb to micro, I could connect a pc mouse and after restarting the phone, it becomes usable (because you can't tell the phone to detect it using the screen) and you can use the menus and stuff (assuming the screen works but not the tactile sensor).
After searching a bit, it seems not to exist a free VNC server if you are not root in the phone, so maybe there is some graphic application that uses ADB and allows you to extract your files from the phone.
You said that a command tells you that the mode is correct, but does it allow you to change it? Maybe there is a command to change USB connection mode, have you searched for it?

Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 Lite 7.0 ve SM T113 does not connect to pc

Hello good afternoon I bought this (Samsung Galaxy tap 3 Lite 7.0 and SM T113) I had it there using my daughter but it comes with a customization of Samsung kids, what some time ago I tried to do the root through a Chinese program but until But I want to get rid of the Samsung kids format it and leave it as new, I tried to format it but it does not delete all the programs I had installed, try to update it but it tells me that my system Operative has been manipulated to update it by means of Samsung kies, I tried to connect it to the computer but it does not recognize it to me when it connects it says that unknown device tried to update the PC controllers but I have not got anything, the strangest thing is Which does not show me on the tablet that there is connectivity via USB or MTP, and I do not know why the phone application can not find it by any pair If it appears installed in all the applications but it does not show it to me to try to activate the form of connection with a command that I saw, to see if someone can help me to be recognized by the PC
Download firmware from www.sammobile.com/firmwares/ and also Odin. Boot into download mode by powering off, then press and hold vol-, home, and power. Then press vol+ when you enter download mode. Connect TAB to PC. Odin should show a blue block with a com number. Load the downloaded firmware into the AP/PDA slot in Odin, (depending on which version of Odin) then press start. Once finished it will reboot.
You may also need to install Samsung Universal USB Drivers, if you don't see the com number in Odin.

Samsung devices have this issue often...have you tried a different USB cable and/or port? These TABs don't like certain cables.

Hi friend, I have already tried many cables, changing port and I still have no results at the moment I connect the tablet the computer marks me device not recognized, and in the notification area of the tablet does absolutely nothing, The tablet is loading

It is very possible that your usb port on the device is bad. I was hoping that wasn't the case, but if Odin won't even recognize it in download mode... that's probably what happened.

Honor 8 pro seen as cd drive

When i connect my phone to the pc the only thing i see is a cd drive with hisuite on it. I'm getting crazy, all of a sudden i can't transfer my files anymore. I looked all morning for a solution but i couldn't find one. Is there anyone who could help me?
Can you confirm you are using the connection in MTP mode?

when you connect to PC, check the phone. pull down the notification bar. there should be an option to change the mode.
also, since you're seeing that CD drive... on the PC, can you see any other drive that resembles the internal storage of the phone? i do see both the "CD drive" and my phone's internal storage.
iinm, under Develop Options, you can set the default. however, i've not gotten it to work at all -- selected MTP but still defaults to charging only, which I find useless.
I am using mtp and the only thing I see is this cd drive with hisuite on it. The thing is that this started to happen all of a sudden and only on this pc because on my laptop it works fine.
Just install Hisuite or Android USB drivers and connect it through MTP, it will recognise the device

Yes you can! Once your device is recognised as MTP device and drivers are installed, then you will see a Honor 8 Pro MTP device symbol in the Explorer, double click it and you can find it as normal USB Drive, then just copy paste like a USB Drive

I reinstalled hisuite but now it won't even show the window on the phone that authorizes adb connection. BTW i'm pretty sure that even when i managed to connect it to hisuite the only thing shown in the explorer was this damn cd drive
Why would you need hi suite? Transferring files doesn't need it. Just plug it in and select the mtp from notification on phone.

i suggest you connect the phone, then from device manager, remove/ uninstall the driver... and let it detect and install the software again.

Try doing this
Go to Windows and search device manager
Remove all the MTP drivers
Select the driver and uninstall it.
Now install Hisuite before connecting your device to the PC.
And then restart your computer.
Now try plugging in your phone.
Hopefully the issue will resolve.
If not then just do all the above steps and instead of installing Hisuite, install Universal ADB Drivers and then try plugging in the phone.
just wondering... is there anyway to turn off/ disable this CD thingy? kinda annoying actually... pops up whenever I plug into my PC. even though i have set default action to do nothing, it is basically still there as CD drive and i can "eject" it. i wish for it to just go away...

not into installing any additional software. never liked such idea even when I was using Samsung. I have even enabled default connection mode as MTP under Developer Options, but it still defaults to charging only... annoying.
i guess worst case... when I can't stand it anymore, i'll install HiSuite.

bricked Device, never detected (usb/adb etc)

Hi everyone,
I was running CM 14.2 or something, which keept crashing so I decided to try PureNexus 7.1.2, which I didn't install with google apps so it was useless (no WIFI no Bluetooth & there wasn't an option to tick to connect to the PC). I went to the Recovery menu to use a USB Stick via OTG to unzip google apps to make it work. But I could not access external storage. I wiped everything (cache/Delvik/factory reset) telling myself adb would work later.
It didn't. This happend a week ago i've tried at least a dozen tutorials but still I don't find anything working in my case.
I followed tutorials showing how to install the correct driver through the Manager, but this one won't show "other devices" in which is meant to appear my device.
I tried the different ports on the computer and I know my cable is ok because the Nexus charges from it. I tried changing things with permissions and things as indicated on MS Q&A website.
I tried the GUI version of ADB : did not find the device. I will try to do these same processes from another computer but I doubt this will change anything, so....
Please help, I'm freaking desperate.
Thanks for your attention.
Samoth
Edit : I'm sorry if I wasn't clear : since I wiped everything the damn thing won't boot.
Moreover, when it did boot I didn't have access to developer options since i did not install the ROM correctly.
Edit 2 : The cable was not right AND the right port of my computer doesn't want to recognise the device, eventhough it works great for anything else.
I couldn't get back to stock Android because of... Opengapps already installed eventhough i wiped everything off.
I figured I'd give it a last try reinstalling CM but newer, worked perfectly.
Thanks for everyone helping me !
Try this: go to developers options. There is a point USB config. Change from mtp to RNDIS and back. Probably the device will be recognised by your PC.
I have the same problem with the nexus 7 and a s5mini running a 7.1.2 rom

I've heard this before... https://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-7-2013/nexus-7-2013-qa/help-resetting-to-stock-flo-q-t3693110
So, don't worry about developer/adb and do the following:
- boot in fastboot mode (when off press power+vol.dn)
- connect it to your PC
- check if N7 registers on PC
- if not, try another cable and solutions from the linked thread
- if yes, install new CM14.1 or https://developers.google.com/android/images
:good:

I changed my cable and now it connects fine, I first tried to install pureNexus : boots up but it's black screen with notification saying an app keeps crashing.
Then I did try to follow instructions on your link but the scripts don't seem to work : says "waiting fo any device" and doesn't do anything eventhough adb has detected the device. (I'm using mac os here)
I also tried on windows but I still have to figure out how to make adb work, i'll keep you updated.
thanks for your answer man !

Unable to see folders when plugged into PC under device

Hi folks, Wonder if anyone can help, when I plug the phone into my PC I'm unable to see any folders under the devise. It's just empty. Have tapped 'File Transfer' etc. I've never had this issue with a phone before. Any help would be appreciated.
Maybe is because of the encryption.
I have my phone encrypted and I can see the content and sync files with PC.
Turn on Developer Options and change USB configuration to MTP.

Hi, daughters back so just tried. Under default USB configuration I have the following options: File transfer, USB tethering, MIDI, PTP and no data. When File transfer is checked I see Mi A2 Lite but just says it's empty. When I select PTP I see an Unknown under Mi A2 Lite drive which once clicked on is also empty. USB debugging is set to on too (if that makes any diffs) Many thanks in advance.
Update: There was something completely wrong with the phone. Didn't seem to recognise internal memory. Factory reset and it seems to have sorted itself out.
If this happens again follow these instructions:
Right click on My computer, select the Devices and then search for your device with a triangle icon which shows it has problem.
Try to manually update the drivers and search for the USB-MTP drivers.
When the drivers update then the memory will open to your file explorer.
Sorry for my bad English because it's not my mother tongue, but this solution helped me with all the phones that had the same problem. It's a really disturbing problem in Windows which will occur again in the future and you just have to follow these instructions all the time.
