factory charger wont charge phone after pie update - Google Pixel 2 XL Questions & Answers

Hey guys, I was wondering if anyone else had this same problem. I updated to pie last Monday and noticed my pixel 2xl wasn't charging on it's oem charger.
I plugged my phone into 2 aftermarket chargers and both will charge my phone, although I noticed that sometimes when I plug it in, my phone immediately shuts off and I have to turn it back on.
I called Google tech support and they sent me a new charger figuring that my original charger was bad.
I got the new charger today from Google, plugged my phone in and nothing.
I can still charge from my 2 aftermarket chargers though.
I don't know if this is just a coincidence with the update or if the update did something to my phone.
I'd hate to have to factory reset and go through all the trouble of backing it up and everything, so I'm just looking to see if anyone else has experienced this and if there might be something I can do.

I have pixel XL and have found the same thing. Just updated to pie last night I have 4 Google sourced rapid chargers that no longer work. I broke out an old charger for Nexus 5x that works fine. Not pleased that all my rapid chargers are now useless. My wife has pixel XL that hasn't received pie update yet, will be in a pickle if that happens to her phone too. Unbelievable that this got pushed out with this problem.

I believe fast charging is broken with the Pie update for OG Pixel phones like yours but it's news to me for Pixel 2 phones. It's certainly not broken for mine. I did 5-80% in 1 hour.

Same problem here. Stock charger isn't working at all, usb-a to usb-c chargers work about half the time and cut the phone off when being plugged in.

Here's the 5-80% screenshots.

Yeah, just to be clear, it's not just that rapid charging isn't working, it's that the phone can no longer use the Pixel XL Charging bricks that came with the phone. Phone will not charge AT ALL at any speed using a fast charging brick supplied with the phone. Google told me to factory reset phone and reinstall Pie. Haven't had time to try it yet but will report back when I do. Until then, trickle chargers work still.

Same problem for me with original charger not working. I also had the issue where the phone switched off as soon as it was plugged in to charge on back up charging cable. That can be resolved by booting into safe mode and then restarting it. At least it worked for me.

Yea fast charging works with my Verizon type c charger and my type c car charger. Both aftermarket.
Google brick does nothing to my phone.

I'm facing the same issue. Did u guys get a fix?

Ho, but what's the best way to charge or pixel 2 xl? Original charger with power delivery or an old charger with slow charge?

Assuming you have positively ruled out the cable, I would be right back on the phone with Google using your ticket number from the charger, wanting to escalate to an RMA. When you plug the phone into your computer do you get the interface to change to data transfer? Can you transfer data to and from the PC via ADB? You may have a hardware issue with your USB-C port and it will likely not get any better.

Does it charge on the wall okay? I would try a different kernel out, see if that remedies it. If not, I would be suspicious of a damaged/faulty USB cable(they do/can go bad), or a faulty battery. Have you tried clearing your battery stats yet? I would do that, as well.

I'm guessing battery too, sprint should have a machine to check it by the way...

It's happened to me a few times. Sometimes the cable wiggles or something I guess.
I just unplug and replug and its fine.

I've had this happen consistently over the past few weeks, only with my car dock though. It charges fine both in my dock at work and on the standard charger at home. I'm using a Seidio dock, and I've done multiple things to find the issue. Both my wife and I have EVO 4g's with Seidio car docks. I swapped my dock for hers, no change. I swapped out the charging cable, no change. I used a different charger, no change. I tried my normal setup on my wife's phone, no change.
I don't know what else to do to figure the issue out. I have ordered a new charger that supplies 2.1A, as I've read that a low charger output could be the issue.
I am confused, as this combination has worked fine for about 8 months now. Why all of a sudden is it no longer charging properly? The battery could be the issue, as I know that the chemistry changes over time, but I'd like to know for certain before swapping out the battery.
I'd love to hear from others who are having the same issue.
Seidio Dock issue?
I've seen a few other posts with the same problem. Particularly this one: Post #1175
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=16499063&postcount=1175
The one thing that is similar is that he is using the same car dock as I am, the Seidio dock.
I've been playing with this a bit, and have managed to isolate it to the Kernel. I flashed back to MikFroyo and the problem disappeared. It charged perfectly fine.
In Gingerbread (MikG 2.42), with both the stock Kernel and the Freedom Kernel, the phone won't charge properly in the dock. I've been keeping an eye on it with Battery Monitor Widget. Here are the results:

While I am driving, the kernel is showing a 100% full battery, however, it is discharging instead of going into the float mode. As soon as the phone is removed from the dock, it goes from 100% down to 80%. When I put it onto a desk charger, it charges fine with a normal float charge. If I remove the cord from the Seidio dock and plug it into the phone (with a mini -> micro USB adapter), it will charge normally and go into float mode.
Something was changed in the GB Kernel update that affected this behavior. Unfortunately, I'm not a programmer to get that deep to find out where the problem is.
Is there any help possible from anyone???
This always happens to me on AOSP roms. If you happen to be on an AOSP rom, just plug the charger back in then take it out.

I've tried that previously with no luck. I'm using a Sense ROM, currently MikG 2.42, but I had the same issue with the stock GB ROM.
Thanks for the suggestion.

My Battery Won't Charge @ All

So Yesterday I put my phone on the charger and noticed after 2 hours it stayed at 5%. And though just to restart the device, however that didn't work. So at 3 am in the morning I turned it off and threw it on the charger over night woke up to find its at 1% as I type this now.
Is it my battery that's done for or my Note 3 HW?

try new cable and charger base. If neither work, call for replacement.
Or get a new battery save yourself the time you'll have to wait to get another.
It's probably the usb cable, mine went out a month ago, same thing happened to me it wouldn't charge tried another cable battery charged without any issues. So more than likely the cable is bad.

Well I ordered two new anker batteries along with the external charger, and that but that's my problem nothing wrong with a charger or USB cable. My battery just simply would not charge it could not hold one anymore, I literally put it on the charger the entire night and the phone stayed at 5 percent and then as soon as I started do anything on my phone it literally shut my phone off while on the charger during a text message.
I guess it just died.

This same thing pretty much happened to me. Actually exactly the same thing... including the extra Anker batteries and charger as well as testing different cords. I ended up ordering a wireless charging kit, and now all is well. I've been using it with one of the Anker batteries. I ordered the Koolpad charger and the white slim wireless chip off of Amazon. It charges through my Seidio case, and I put velcro onto the charger and the back of the case so that I could easily use it while charging. The wireless charging kit cost about $40 on Amazon (I imagine pretty close to what a new official Sammy charger and cable would cost) and the Koolpad charger came with a black and a white micro USB (not USB 3 but still...) port cover, which I thought was a nice touch.
No guarantee that this would work for you, of course, but it did for me fortunately. If it didn't I would have taken it back to the store (after re-flashing the stock ROM, which may have solved the problem on it's own). Oh yeah, not really sure if this is actually related / possible but I did theorize that the problem may have been kernel related. I had actually been following the wireless charging thread anyways, but if I wasn't already considering spending money on that, the first thing I would have tried would have been a clean install of everything. I was testing out different kernels with Tweaked ROM and the problem started around a new kernel flash, but really can't say if that's related because I was unimpressed with that kernel overall and flashed one that ran better on my phone around the time that the wireless charger showed up (got one day shipping w/ Amazon Prime because shutting down my phone to rotate batteries got old quick, as I'm sure you'll agree). Anyways, good luck. There's lots of good info in that wireless charging thread, if you decide to go that route.

Battery Issues - 65+ hours to fully charge?!?!

Hello,
I discovered a weird issue with my phone this morning. I woke up and the battery was sitting at 64% after charging overnight. That seemed a little weird so I tried doing several different things (battery pull, clear the cache, etc...) to see if it would correct the issue. It did not. I just got done draining the phone completely and then plugged it in. In about an hour's time, it charged 2%.
The only thing that I have not tried at this point is a full system restore :crying:
Has anyone else experienced this issue? Do you have any ideas of things for me to try? I am willing to try anything before using a full restore as a last resort.
Thanks,
LBS
EDIT: Well, I dug out an old blackberry wall charger and cable and it immediately fixed the issue. I think its a bad LG charger and USB cable. I guess ill toss them.

What charger AND USB cable are you using to charge the device? While I was using the bundled LG charger at the time, I was using an old HTC MicroUSB cable I had from a previous device when I encountered this problem. When I used the bundled LG MicroUSB cable instead, the device charged normally.

I've been using a 3rd party 6 foot long USB cable with a third party rapid charger. Last night my wife needed to borrow a USB charger, so I gave her mine and used the LG provided charger and cable for the first time last night. I hadn't really thought about it. Maybe its a bad charger?

Could possibly be that. I think the G3 might be a little picky with chargers and such you use with it, I'm not too sure as I've pretty much used the G3 wireless charging dock to charge my G3 (and that is very picky with what you use with it, if it's not at least 1.8A then say hello to constant beeps and errors, my old 2.1A Nexus 7 charger seems to power the dock fine.)

My Note II taking 12+ hours to charge, sometimes shows 24+ hours to full charge, help

My 3 years old Note II - N7100 is acting weird since few months, when I connect to charger it takes more than 12 hours to full charge. I connect it to charger overnight, and when I see in the morning it's just around 60%, it charges 60% in 8-9 hours.
But this keeps changing, few nights ago it charged only 20% overnight.
I changed my 3 years old battery thinking that might be a problem, bought Intex 2500mah one , same problem. Changed chargers, I usually use my Note 5's original charger but no use. I was using custom Rom - Eclipse, then flashed original Rom but still problem persist. I thought my usb port must be faulty so ordered usb flex from eBay and changed it, but didn't work, actually after installing new usb flex, my mic stopped working but charging showed same - 12+ hours time, so returned it.
So what you think is the problem? Should I buy new original battery or try another usb flex? I am frustrated. Sorry for long Question.

Try to test using a different cable... and also check if your adapter is working properly...
most of the time the cable is at fault...
Install app galaxy charging current and see what current your charger and cable is giving should be around 1500. Most of time cable and charger is at fault. Hope it helps

I had the same problem that it's located on charger metallic electrolitic capacitors (390 uF 10V). I changed both for 470uF 16V and now it's working fine again.

I had the same problem. Mine solved by charging the device couple of times while it's off. Now the device gets charged in 2-3 hours.
Problem solved, after trying everything changing cable worked. My note 5 cable charges my note 5 fast but same cable takes 20 hrs to charge note 2, combination of note 5 adapter and gionee cable worked. Now it takes around 2 hours to full charge my note 2.
Thanks everyone.

Pixel 2 XL stopped charging. HELP

My pixel 2 XL stopped charging at all of the sudden and only accepts slow charging and with a "Chinese" cable. The original cable doesn't work. No the cable ain't broken or the charger. My girlfriend has a pixel 3 and she uses my charger and cable and works on hers. We used also her charger and cable ( from pixel 3s ) and on her pixel 3 everything works comes to mine it doesn't even recognize to start charging.

But both of my cables are good. My girlfriend uses both of them on her pixel 3 and they work perfectly. On mine they don't even start to charge. I need to use those lame 1£ cables to be able to charge it. And it charges soooooo slow. Around 5 hours for 80% battery. It's the only way to charge it .
I've done it all as I said cleaned everything and tries factory reset and all that stuff. But nothing seems to work. I'm starting to guess my battery is faulty and doesn't support fast charging anymore.

If you used the app since the start it will be more accurate also doing a full drain and charge.
Using factory charger is going to do less harm to the battery and all batteries are not the same as you can see from mine that I still have a bit of extra life
I agree 8 years is a long time that you should be under 100% but who knows what actual size was
