Stock Firmware or not? - Samsung Galaxy S9 Questions & Answers

Hey there,
I have got the S9 with an Austrian Provider Firmware. Although the device is unlocked for any Carrier, it seems to me that my Provider is getting out Firmware Updates very slow.
So I have been thinking about flashing my device to an open Firmware to receive Firmware Updates faster. Will I get any disadvantages, eg. no VoLTE or anything else?

What do you mean with "open Firmware"?
I guess, flash an other ROM?
If you put a custom ROM on the device, you will NOT receive any ROM Updates from Samsung - because it's customized.
Some ROMs has a updater, to receive updates if there is some available of the "provider of the ROM".
Some ROMs work well, others has still some bugs, depends on the ROM (see Buglist at every thread).
But you can customize it by yourself! increase batterylifetime, design, get rid of the bloatware,....
First you have to install a custom recovery, with this you loose warranty, and KNOX.
Every other function depends on the ROM.
But i bought my S9 from Amazon and still receive no updates.... (no branding of 3 in Austria).

Yes, I want to Flash to a non-Provider locked ROM.
Well, there has to be International ROMs - like when you purchase the S9 directly via the Samsung Website with no Provider involved.
Is there a way to flash those kind of ROMs?

There are stock unbranded ROMs but they do not unlock the SIM lock
BTU is a United Kingdom unbranded ROM

Nah, do not worry about the SIM lock. It is removed.
So, when I Flash the BTU ROM. Do I get Firmware Updates and Security Level Patches fast?

Cannot find correct Stock rom

So my signal wouldn't work so I went to SamMobile and downloaded the UK BTU stock ROM. I wiped the rom used triangle away to reset flash counter and installed the stock ROM. The status was 'Normal'. I then sent it to Samsung for a repair.
I received the phone back yesterday, samsung have refused to repair it as it has custom firmware, I have again installed the UK BTU firmware (old versions too) and it seems to be installing a Ukrainian stock ROM, no matter which website I download it from.
The signal is now working but I still cannot find the actual UK BTU (or UK T-Mobile) stock ROM.
Also, when I received the phone back from samsung the auto-rotate feature no longer works (Android Sensor Box shows it not working at all) and I cannot say this to Samsung as they will obviously think i'm making it up.
Anyway, can anyone help ?
Thanks

I have tried that link and getting an incorrect ROM. First of all the language is Ukranian (I believe) even though it is listed as United Kingdom BTU. The flash counter goes back to 1 at every boot even though I am not rooted and Kies refuses to install firmware.
My IMEI displays fine.
open kies - tools - firmware upgrade and initialization
You need to enter S/N , you can find in device setting / back of device under battery.

Hi,
Do you have the n7105 LTE model?
T-Mobile UK is now known as Everything Everywhere.
The ROMs show on SamMobile as "United Kingdom (EE)" and have EVR as the CSC
like: http://www.hotfile.com/dl/197072816/008698a/N7105XXDMB2_N7105EVRDMA2_EVR.zip.html

It is definitely N7100, it's with T-Mobile (EE) but not on their "4gee" plan. The stock firmware is BTU.
Here is the details i'm shown after entering my S/N:

I fixed it myself by checking "Phone" instead of "PDA" in Odin. This also fixed the orientation problem.
Thanks anyway.

Using SamFirm to download SM-G930U-G930UUEU2APG9 USA 8/1 firmware update for SM-G930V

Users can still use SamFirm_V0.3.6 to download SM-G930U_G930UUEU2APG9 firmware to flash on our US Verizon S7's. The firmware contains the latest 8/1/16 security patch.
Thanks to zxz0O0 for this program and OP! Thanks to princecomsy for the modded Odin 3.1.2.

This one too, just in case!
Wait I'm confused the firmware version says its for the G930U, but also saying its for VZW? Which is it lol, the G930U or G930V. I know you can flash the U firmware on the V model but I'm just asking to make sure.
There were two identical versions of the "U" firmware. Sorry for the confusion. You can use the program to download the "U" firmware to flash on on our Verizon S7's.

"This" firmware can be used to flash "said" firmware?
Sorry to make you elaborate it seems simple but I can't quite tell whats going on haha.
I need to download both and flash half from each? Or flash one first then the other?
You can download either one. The XAA and VZW firmware are identical. I just flashed the "VZW" one and it made no difference.

Oh lol, and it came with VZW bloat and worked with the Verizon specific features and all that?
I'll let you know once I get through the setup.
Edit:

Yeah thats the one I downloaded, but when I loaded it into Odin the CSC showed as OYM, and not VZW.
Oh well lol I'll keep this running I don't have it set up yet so I can't speak on battery life or performance (although I'm sure it will be similar to PF2) but as far as my signal goes there are no issues so I'll keep this installed. Thanks for the guide and for helping me out.
Edit: Oh, didn't know the U firmware let you straight up uninstall some of the Samsung crap, not just disable it. Also didn't realize that all the 3rd party bloat was Verizon's doing, not Samsungs I disable all that crap with Package Disabler Pro anyways, but still didn't realize how sh*tty Verizon is lol.
Sure thing, no problem. One problem... If you use visual voice-mail, it will be lost. I have not found a suitable working replacement either... I just long press the "1" in the dialer to check my voice-mail, lol. Old-school....
Oh okay
Lol I know benchmarks don't really mean anything but damn
Beat the OnePlus 3 in RAM score even though it has 2GB less ram LOL

Why do I get:

Error: Could not send BinaryInform. Status code 200/401

Try installing those two MS VC C++ packages, reboot and try again. I have them installed and did not experience that error. Works on my laptop and desktop.
I flashed the new U firmware and man my phone is back to normal. I want to root it but it was so sluggish with the root kernal even with the v15 fixes and all the tweaks I read here. Opening apps were taking 5 seconds, unlocking the phone was taking a few. It literally felt like I was running some crap $50 chinese phone lol. Also my battery was going down 10% every half and hour. Now with the fresh stock install no root no tweaks I've lost 3% in 1h and 33 minutes
What exactly are the benefits of doing this? Doesn't the U firmware have an unlocked boot loader, or something along those lines?

No unlocked bootloader, just 0 Verizon bloat to bog down the phone, so it tends to run much cleaner.

SM-G986B is Multi CSC device. Since Switzerland and Italy are in the same region both CSC's should be pre-installed on the device.
Try this - Go to "Settings" then "About phone". Write down your IMEI Number. Open dialer and enter *#272*IMEInumber# (In the thread replace IMEInumber with your actual IMEI Number). Press dial, you should see a screen with the list of available CSC codes for your device. Select the CSC that you want and tap the Install option.

The Samkey method would only work if the security patch on your phone hasn't been updated past July 2020. Otherwise you will get an "unsupported BIT" error.

In this case you're stuck (like myself) with whatever csc you currently have unless you root your device. I haven't rooted any of my samsung phones (my primary handsets) since my S3 days as I had no need to. So I'm not familiar with the process for sammy devices.

Question Indian firmware with European Z FOLD 4 (SM-F936B)

I just saw online that India Market got the new update (F936BXXU1AVIH) with September security patch.
So my question is, as i have an european model with the same model number (F936B), what is the risk if i flash this firmware ? As i know that it's not gonna change my 4G/5G bands anyway, so i'm guessing maybe an OTA issue after flashing this firmware (like not receiving them as i don't live in India).
Sorry if it's a stupid question :-/
No risk, CSC HOME and all good. I do it.
Ok, thanks for your reply
And what about future OTA updates ? Will it still be working ?
Yes.
Yesterday I installed the Indian version on my European version Fold 4, there is no problem except that it does not pass the Safetypass and I cannot make contactless payments.
No Root, no OEM unloock, just ODIN upgrade (firm from Sammobile).
