How to change navigation in recovery? Help please - MTCD Android Head Units General

Can the way to navigate in recovery be changed?
Recovery says to navigate use volume up and down but it should be press power.
Thats because I bought a core board from a touch only unit for my head unit with hardware buttons.
But the boards are universal so there must be a way to change it.

Recovery will respond to an external keyboard input so you can temporarily connect a USB keyboard

Yes, of course but that doesn't solve the problem.

Power Button Anomaly

So, I've purchased a replacement LCD top portion for a sprint TP2, and everything works fine after installing it, except the new power button only works when powering the phone on initially (when it's in a completely offline state), but after that it doesn't work to shut the phone off, or wake up from standby (phone on, screen off). You must open the keyboard to get the screen back on, and either remove the battery or use some program (I've installed a CAB for this already) to shut down from the OS...
Does anybody know why this might be occurring? Another weird thing is that when the phone is not even charging, but has a battery in it (and is not powered on), it shows an orange light that would suggest it is actually charging. I've already contacted the seller of the replacement LCD (which is basically the whole top portion that includes the LCD, power button, end call buttons, etc. (the part that "slides up")...they're willing to send a replacement, but I'm wondering if this is something I can actually easily fix myself?
Thanks in advance!
Ok, if there's no way to fix this, does anybody know of how I might be able to remap another button as the power button?
Any help would be appreciated.

If you are using the NRG ROM, there is a command in the Windows directory called PowerOffWarning.exe. It executes the slide to shutdown program. You can map that to a button using the Settings / Buttons icon.

The problem is if the device goes to sleep I can't wake it back up unless I slide open the keyboard.
Is there a way to map another button to wake up the screen again also?

You can change the lock behavior such that it will answer one of the buttons. It is in the Settings / System / Key Lock icon. However that means that while it is in your pocket or case, the phone may (and probably will) come unlocked and perform some function or another.
Under Settings --> System, I don't have a key lock icon. I'm using the default Sprint ROM. Is it possible that this ROM doesn't have that icon?

Drat, I'm using NRG. However I recall that the setting is also present elsewhere in WM 6, but I'm sorry, I can't remember where. It may be in with the power application in Settings / System.
I do have WinMo 6.5, but no real option for this unfortunately..

Taking the stylus out might be another option for switching on the screen, although it's probably more convenient to slide the keyboard open given the choice!
Anyway I did a search and found this:

Hope that helps.

It seems that link is for remapping keys on the qwerty slider, but what about keys on the actual device?

I believe it works with any key on the device.
So, what is it ? It's a patched keyboard driver with configurator application for keys setup. Any key (yeah, i mean ANY, including Home and Back keys) can be reassigned to perform desired actions.

Recovery

Hey guys,
I was just thinking about a recovery menu, to install roms, update.zip etc.
But now i noticed there are no physical buttons to select something.
We can go only up and down with the volume buttons, but we cannot select anything?
Correct me if I'm wrong.
The selection is made with power button ;-)
Um you can post this in the general section.

Your post makes absolutely no sense. Could be a couple possibilites here. Are you talking about holding the power button and volume buttons down to get into recovery? Are you asking if ROM Manager and Quickboot can get you into recovery? I have no clue to what you are asking or trying to say. If your talking about how to get into recovery that wasn't what the OP wanted to know. He wanted to know how to make a selection once you are in recovery.
To the OP CWM Recovery's code can be written to use whatever buttons are available. Once the phone drops a custom recovery will be written for it in a matter of minutes if it hasn't been done already. Same with superuser.
Actual development only, you're posting in the wrong forum

He is referring to the fact that the power button acts as the selection button.
Recovery is accessed like the Nexus S, by powering on the device using Volume Up+Power. Options are navigated via volume up/down and selected using the power button. To go back, one has to scroll to the bottom of the list where the last option is back and select that using the power button. Nothing too complicated about it.
how is this phone any different than all the other android phones with capacitive buttons on the bottom? all other android phones cannot use the capacitive buttons in recovery, so i dont see how this one is different. like the atrix, you use vol up/down, power button, and then back is at the bottom of the list.
there's not a single thing different about the galaxy nexus with respect to this.

That's not true. Many models have a functioning 'back' capacitive button in recovery. The G2/DZ being one of them.

droid 1 is just annoying using the keyboard but the recovery is in portrait. Bleh. One great thing about the G2 is using the trackpad for recovery.
Don't forget that recovery is just a very slimmed down version of Android. If they wanted to, they could implement on-screen buttons etc. just like capacitive buttons can currently be used if implemented.
why not have the Team Win Recovery 2.0 on it?

Phones like the SGS2 have 3 buttons - the volume buttons, home and power button. That lets the power button function as a permanent back button, with the home button taking the role of 'select'. Recovery can function in both 3 button and 2 button modes, with the power buttons function changing respectively. Nothing overly complicated.
The atrix can use all the buttons in recovery. Im sure the button issue is a non issue. It will be software or the typical volume and power hardware interface.
I voided my warranty and your nexus.
Fascinate could use all four capacitive buttons which saves wear and tear on the physical buttons.

[Q] Power button hyper-sensitive

Hi all,
I've had some problems with my S3 power button. It's behaving like it's being pressed when it isn't. Just slightly brushing it, without depressing the button, is registering a press. Pressing the button is behaving like the button is being held.
I've read a number of possible fixes. I tried software options, just to be sure (cleared cache, factory reset). But this is almost certainly a hardware problem.
I stripped the phone down and the physical button itself looks absolutely fine. It is interacting as it should with the internal button on the motherboard. The issue seems to be that the internal button attached to the motherboard (the little white button) is registering clicks even when it's not being fully depressed.
The phone did have some water damage about 6 months ago. I wonder if this could be causing the the phone to mess up now?
I even tried a fix that many people seem to think works: smacking the crap out of the power button itself. It had no affect on my phone - I think that "fix" that is for a power button that is stuck depressed and not a power button registering phantom clicks/being hyper-sensitive.
So I suppose I have the following questions:
1) Has anyone else experienced similar problems and, if so, did they get it fixed?
2) My plan is to try replacing the motherboard/logic board and see if that helps. Does that sound like the best fix or is it overkill?
3) If I'm replacing the motherboard, does it need to be an I747 motherboard or will any S3 model work fine?
4) What's the best source for a motherboard? I don't mind if they're used or refub so long as they work.
Any advice you can offer is welcome.
Cheers.

I had the exact same problem with mine, and unfortunately there's not much you can do about it as it's a hardware defect. I haven't tried replacing motherboards or anything, so that might help you. What I did to help with the problem was rerouting my power button to my volume up key so that I can use the power button as little as possible. The only time I use the power button now is when I need to power it on - which causes reboot loops sometimes.

Ditto, my power button is borked too. Ended up doing the same thing but I don't use my power button at all. I just use rom toolbox to reboot system/into recovery
Rerouting was simple for me as it's baked into the settings in the rom I'm on (ground zero) as it is with most custom ROM'S I've been on. If you're just running stock I'm sure there's an app in the market that'll work however I'm drawing a blank ATM

I'm running CM.
I've had a look through the routing options. What I can't locate is a way to disable the power button completely. My main problem right now is the phantom clicks. I'd rather that button be dead.
Anyone know of a way I can make that happen in CM?
Nevermind. I just physically removed the power button. That did the trick.
For anyone interested, you can replace a faulty power button on the motherboard pretty easily and the parts are cheap. If I wasn't due an upgrade in 4 months I'd probably do that. No need to replace the whole motherboard.
Does anyone know the app to reroute the button? I too have the same problem.

Soft keys not working anymore

Hello there!
Well, I have encountered a new issue with on my recently bought ZenFone 2. The problem seems to have apperead out of a sudden. My touch soft keys have stopped working (partially) - HOME, RECENT, BACK
What I mean by partially, is that their default action isn't working anymore & no haptic feedback is received. Basically, I cannot use them.
However, the device takes their actions...as part of the screen touchable area. Please check the video bellow for more information:
(I have also used Glove Mode ON...for a better response - yo ucan see in the video that for once...the long-press RECENT soft key works correctly)
https://www.dropbox.com/s/2bgf348xixo1t8k/MOV01746_x264.mp4?dl=0
What I have already tried:
- Reboot the phone
- Power off the device
- Boot in safe mode
- Let the battery drain
- Reset from factory
- Wipe data/factory reset & cache deletion (via Recovery Menu)
- flash official ROM via ADB Sideload
- flash ROM via fastboot (along with the fastboot image, boot image and recovery image - besides the system image)
The issue's still there so any help will be welcomed!
Thank you!

Hello there and thanks for the answer. Yes I've downloaded something similar for the soft keys. Not sure if it's a calibration issue, but I may check it. I think it's a hardware issue and contacted the ASUS support. As far as I can see...the capacitive foil covers both the display and the soft keys area. In my opinion, the flex cable underneath the soft keys is broken/damaged.

You're right about the capacitive foil going under the soft key area. If I double tap to wake between two keys, it will wake up.

I eventually replaced the whole screen. Maybe it was damaged in the first place. The authorized local service wasn't able to only change the flex cable. I disabled double tap. My phone used to unlock by itself in the pocket and enter get into apps. I am looking for an unlocking method alternative, now.

Have you tried remapping the keys by the system itself? If so try changing the i.bus protocol, perhaps it is not recognizing these buttons.
