Reasons you switched back to Oreo - Google Pixel 2 XL Questions & Answers

It's just been 30hrs I'm on PIE and i already miss xposed lol and wondering whether i can't survive without it or not, given that animations are really smooth and i like them and battery life for me has improved since no ' Xposed ', so I'm still in a doubt what to do
Why did you guys switched back to oreo?

I didn't yet, but basically i hate two things:
Chrome cannot be downgraded to version 65 and so I'm unable to use address bar on the bottom;
Recent apps view. That thing makes me wanna smash the phone into a wall around 5 times per day. This is by far the most annoying so called feature ever. I hate it. Hate it.
The Split screen was also ruined by ****ing recent apps view.
What i like is the magnifying cursor and the new screenshots editing function, which is really cool.
And the sound controls I don't mind.
By the way, is there any chance to have the latest security patches if i go back to Oreo?

If you go back to July 8.1, your security patches are likely done since google is now on 9.0. As are the kernel and rom developers.

Oh you will most definitely have to do a clean install and wipe to downgrade my friend. Hahahahahaha...I bet you'll be backing your device up once a week after what happened the other day. That's not a bad habit to have though :good:

I try not to flash backwards Plus a like the taste of Pie!

Just to add, I've not yet decided to upgrade to Pie as I just love RR at the moment too much to want to give up this rom, with all its features and my current setup! I've got it running so smooth, doing all the things I like, with all the little features I need, with a battery life that keeps up with my demands. So given I'd only but lose out with some features, it ain't worth the upgrade for me right now.
Plus indeed this new recents app sounds horrible! Can it be reverted back to the old one, is it compulsory??
When RR Pie gets released, with all the current Oreo features and fully working apps/theme etc. THEN I may be temped to try it out...

My 8.1 OS had trouble booting, bootloops, and messages of corruption. So I upgraded to 9.0 and things have been pretty good except for a WiFi tethering bug with my PS4, other devices connect properly but multiple PS4s either drop connection and get just a few kbps. Probably going to downgrade because of that

I switched because I need to have Viper with Dolby

Much better overall smoothness, great new notification design
Ability for third party apps to write to sd card. More secure. However it also has its negatives. No xposed support.
Supposedly battery apps need root support to get battery data now, can anybody confirm this?
John.
xposed does work with 5.1 although not officially. Been using it successfully for a couple weeks now.

Not on stock tw roms it doesn't. We don't have 5.1 yet
Nothing. Loss of features, HIDEOUS iOS color scheme. Notifications on the lockscreen can now be either Google Now style cards or nothing. Can't simply allow notification icons in the notification panel to be visible on the lock screen.
Custom launchers can no longer change the number if homescreens, apps like Tasker can no longer toggle connections. And the toggle for mobile data is now three menus deep.
I didn't want to upgrade to Lollipop but since AT&T pushed it OTA, I didn't have a choice. Several times throughout the day, I told it "no, I don't want to install the update." So it waited until I was asleep and did it anyway. Now I'm not only stuck with TouchWiz but I've lost the ability to use Tasker to make it bearable. Done with Samsung and done buying anything from the carrier.

"Way better" is (imo) a dramatic understatement. Until no, I've been absolutely in love with my Samsung devices. The TouchWiz version of Lollipop has solidly convinced me to never buy another. It'll be Nexus for me from now on and if Samsung does another round of Nexus, I'll skip it.
I saw this thread in Xposed subforum. Looks like they may have Xposed partially working for touchWiz lollipop. I didn't read the thread as it doesn't interest me, but ya'll can check it out to see if it helps you or not:

For me, Lollipop is smoother/snappier. Games are running smoother and barely any lag. Web pages scrolling is smoother too on the built in browser.
Battery life seems to be the same. Some new features and animations are added and now you can pull down notification panel at the lock screen.

[Q] How is your experience with Nougat so far?

Hello all,
As the title says, what is your opinion about Nougat? After reading so many bug related posts here and in reddit, im frustrated to update to the newest version of android. How does it compares to marsmalow in terms of battery, performance and bugs? Is it safe to update now, of do your suggest to wait a little longer for a bugfix update? And finally, if your suggest me to update, do your recomend any custom rom/ kernel?
Thanks in advance.
Fine, I love my 5X, but there are some bugs that I have:
*In Whatsapp audios or call if I put my face in the phone (or simple if I cover the distance sensor) the screen goes black and I can't turn on again...maybe if a press the power button 3 times the screen turns on. that is REALLY annoying!, I dont know if is a software problem or if my tempered glass is the real problem...
*The screen rotates very easy...sometimes I move my phone just a little and the screen rotates...
*When screen turns off it doesnt fade "slowly"...its something cosmetic but I dont like it haha

Hm, i dont use whatsapp so i dont mind if there is a bug about it. Do you have the same problem during calls too? Also, what about battery and performance?
I have these bugs:-
1. I have a problem with the battery percentage toggle, i change it to like "everytime" but sometimes it auto switches back to "only when charging", in 6.0.1 there was only an option to show percentage which worked fine.
2. I also have a problem after sep security update the swipe up from overview to open multiwindow doesnt work, it is on in the settings tho, it worked on the first 7.0 aug security one but now it doesnt.

This features disable automatically when you go to System ui tuner. Just enable it and don't touch this settings.
Also, I have a bug with double icon of alarm clock in status bar, like on screenshot. Reboot can fix it.

I recently reverted back to marshmallow, I was getting horrible battery drain. Like 10℅ an hr while in my pocket. I had to leave it on battery saver mode if I wasn't going to be near a charger. But besides that it's awesome, love all the new features.
Sent from my Nexus 5X using Tapatalk
For me, unlocking the device harder. I have to swipe further in order to do it, and it also happens when I want to swipe a notification at the lock screen.
In addition Spotify song playing from google now through an Android Wear does not work unless the Nexus is unlocked.
Finally, battery life is not really god in my case.
After reading your replies, i decided to stay in marsmalow for a couple of months. Thanks everyone
It's only been a couple days for me but everything is working well on the stock OTA update so far.
I like the new features and Doze is working brilliantly again so there is a noticable improvement to battery life.

Root systemless ok
Magisk ok
Pokémon go ok
My mother ok euh yes she Can use my nexus 5x
Battery life 2 days with no game , 1 day with Pokémon go or if i play so hard 7 hours
I'm happy on 7.0 but i would like xposed and custom Rom with theme engine , substratum is to young

Worth it to update to Nougat now?

I have an update pending for 3 weeks now, but I did read that there were some problems.
With the Playstore, ringer volume, battery, wireless, photo quality and focus..
Not sure if those are exceptions (since people with problems are much louder), or a rule..
Is there a OP3 Nougat review somewhere, that lists potential bugs?
Is a good update!

I make it a point to clean flash after backing up. I am using only OOS from the beginning. And as far as possible I download from the original source. It may delay the availability but every single download and installation is successful. The only time I faced an issue was when I downloaded OOS recovery image from a posted link and not from OP website. I am not saying that all posted links are bad but most of the issues arise from bad downloads, not following the directions scrupulously and updating (as against a clean install).
I am yet to face any serious issues.
Thanks!
I suppose I might cave in just go with the flow. I AM looking forward to some Nougat OOS4 features.

I hestitated to move from 3.2.8 to N, mainly because of lack of xposed and custom kernel support but also due to some bug reports. 10 days ago I finally did it and don't regret it at all! Made a full backup of my userdata to PC (TWRP and Titanium) and then a clean flash of OOS 4.0.2. Rooted and now I also run the latest eng.stk kernel. Totally satisfied, although I still miss xposed...
You want xposed now = dont update
You can wait for exposed = update
In my eyes there is no other reason than xposed not to update
I couldn't live without xposed and I kept on coming back to 3.2.8 ...
Thanks
I don't root, I don't flash, I don't change kernels, I don't use xposed..
But i could backup, if root is not required for that?

and ofc also youtube adaway and youtube background playback.

unlock bootloader and install TWRP, make a backup and then download Experience ROM and flash, so if u do not like nougat u can just go back to MM easily
The 4.0.2 update is great, I see the battery lasts more time (best I did was 48 hours active with 4 hours of screen time and 4 of call time, localization always active to high precision), the phone is super fast, so what else do you want?
I'm very happy with 4.0.2 as a light user. The battery is certainly better and I typically get around 3 hours SOT with 3 days of standby. :victory:
There are a few minor bugs but on the whole, its a great update.
Hats off to OnePlus. :highfive:

Big 'NO' if you travel a lot and come across situations like you roam between various networks. Because playstore doesn't download a thing on mobile data while roaming. It is not a OnePlus 3 specific issue tho.
Edit: Playstore bug seems to be fixed now. I must say it is safe to upgrade to 7.1.1. Running stable and smooth now.

so many complaints

So in the Samsung official s9 forum there are thread after threads of people complaining about the new 'downgrade' to Pie One Ui mainly about the camera features being removed,
Shutter button zoom removed
Separate Video and shutter buttons removed
Pro video settings removed
Selective focus is now useless (s9)
Selfie Camera default view is too close so effects all apps that use selfie camera.
The ugly iPhone look of the overall camera software.
Battery life is down quite a bit although I've been told that the may update fixes this at last.
There are a few other features missing or changed that i personally don't use.
I personally love the new ONEui especially combined with Samsungs one handed operation + app using gestures.
The weird thing is I'm not hearing any complaints in the s9 xda forums about the upgrade/downgrade to Pie.
Are you all happy with your phone's from Oreo to Pie ?
Personally I think they have lowered the quality of the camera to make their S10 phones look superior but that probs me having a tin hat moment
I had my S9 for all of about 2 hours - about the time it took to transfer from a screen-busted S8 to the replacement S9 a couple months ago - before the update to Pie occurred.
I've had no problems or issues with it. And I've had the S8 for just under a year and half so I went through its update from Nougat to Oreo.
I don't know what issues there are with "selective focus". It seems to work fine for me.
Now, I have disabled as much of Bixby as I can (deleted the Google app and removed that search bar too - completely useless for me). Changed the launcher to Nova Launcher which can remove those goofy rounded icon frames, using the BlackBerry Hub Suite of apps for all the IM stuff, even using the BlackBerry Virtual keyboard which I like better than the stock or any SwiftKey keyboard.
I honestly don't understand the complaints towards Pie. It's not all that different from Oreo, and I love the native dark theme.
I personally don't like the update to pie. Battery life is definitely worse, the wifi signal is worse (I tested it between the S5 and S7 and the S9 was the worst). I don't like the UI at all, reminds me of an iPhone. About the only thing I do like is the My files app. It's cleaner and easier to use and navigate.

You have nothing to compare it to then, Oreo was 100x better which is why people are a bit disappointed. And I have to say your setup sounds absolutely awful ?

You missed my line about having the S8 for almost a year and a half, during which time it updated from Nougat to Oreo. So, yes, I can definitely compare with Oreo, since I had it for about a year.
And, except for some shifting around of elements, I find it to be basically the same. I had no problems finding what I need anywhere within the revamped UI.
And, my setup works perfect for me and is absolutely wonderful. You can't say otherwise without trying it yourself
I know that features in camera like pro video, zoom using the shutter button, taking 3 pictures when setting a timer, motion panorama... are removed, but the ui isn't ugly, I actually liked it better than oreo.
Selective focus is a bit improved after software updates, but the blur effect isn't as stong as in oreo.
Battery life isn't too much worse, I think the first month I upgraded to one UI, it was very bad, but it has improved after learning my usage patterns...
Heat is noticeably improved since when I was on oreo my phone was a little too warm all the time, but now it's normal, even available RAM is higher, I have 1.4~1.6 GB free now, compared to 1~1.2 GB in oreo.
When it comes to animations, I find less frame drops with one UI. And I didn't experience any kind of major lag since I got the phone so no worries here.
The whole UI looks better for me, it's cleaner and easier to use, I've not changed any launcher, keyboard, or even themes, everything is stock. And I can safely say that one UI is overall better than oreo, unless you care about the missing camera features.
I am absolutely gutted about the camera software, but I do love the one UI and I just got the May update which is supposed to fix the battery problems.
I hate it that they removed the recent long press to multitask, i mean why would samsung remove such simple usefull feature?

Just go to settings>display>adaptive brightness and reset usage patterns. Then adjust it the way you want in each situation so it adapts to your adjustments...
This is the problem, it keeps cocking up, I reset usage and it's alright for a bit then it's drops to 0 brighteners so I move it to how I would like it and it'll be ok but then I go outside and the brightness doesn't increase so I adjust again for that and on we go because now auto brightness isn't doing anything and I'm constantly changing the brightness in the same brightness I've already set up, I reset again and all is ok for a while and then it starts again.
I'm going to wipe cache partition and reset brightness patterns and see how it goes.

Question Oxygen OS 12 Idle Touch Sampling Rate

In the "touchMultiTest" tool, the touch sampling rate remains 0, untill the finger is moved quite a bit, the resultant feedback is abrupt and inaccurate.
Noticable while sniping in PUBG and scrolling slowly.
This is an extremely annoying issue which was nonexistent in Android 11 older 0xygen OS
This problem is present in all the Android 12 builds of OOS/color OS.
Can others confirm this and bring it to OnePlus' attention?
What can i do to let OnePlus know about this on their "community" app?
Quite possibly the app needs to be updated for the feature to work with newer API

Not an app specific issue.
1. If you have a thick case on that doesn't let heat out your SOC might throttle
2. If you have a screen protector /tempered glass on, try without it or try RMA

Tried all that, i can confirm that this is an issue with OOS 12 and Color OS 12.
All the other Android 12 custom ROMS that I've tried, does not have this problem.
Its an issue specific to OOS 12.
This problem has persisted from way back, since the DP2 (Developer Preview 2) release.

Upon further investigation, I think it has something to do with the kernel used in OOS 12 builds
Switch back to OOS11 if it's a problem.

yes, I have resorted to 11.2.10.10 build, but before I did so, I captured and sent OnePlus a log of what I was facing through the feedback app.
lets see how they respond, they asked me to be patient.
Did you experience the issue I'm talking about?

I experienced a whole lotta jank on all of their A12 builds. I never got around to installing OB3, but I did install the build that apparently broke everyone's data (oddly it didn't break mine). I think OB2 was by far the most stable build they put out for A12.
I tried PA for a bit but I'm a features guy and went back to OOS11.

Now I'm on Xtended. Had to go back to Monet since OOS doesn't use it. Plus a less jank A12 ROM.

What is "monet" ?
Also im currently on the C.44 build of OOS 12 on my LE2125.
Idk what OnePlus did, but the touch "deadzone" issue is non-existent ONLY in PUBG mobile.....things are perfect there.
But its present everywhere else and in all the other games ( PUBG New State, COD Mobile, etc) ...
The touch "deadzone" issue is undeniably apparent now...
Easily observed when switching between "PUBG New State" and "PUBG Mobile"

I'm flashing Xtended right now, lets see how things are. Judging from the screenshots from the dev's post, this ROM looks delish.
Can anyone confirm if the issue is fixed in the lastest c.61 update.
They addressed system fluency

PUBG/PUBG New State and some other popular games has this issue fixed.
It was indeed an API related issue.

I was having the issue in the launcher even. In c.60
Even using Facebook and all other apps. During scrolling and holding the scroll with a finger
The problem very well does still persist throughout c.61.
By "system fluency", OnePlus probably means animation improvements.
