[Q] Upgrading to lollipop / unlocked / rooted /xposed working /deodexed

Since lollipop is out now for the z1 compact there are a lot of threads about upgrading, rooting, xposed working - not working.
Just as many of you I'm running on kitkat / unlocked / rooted and I make use of xposed modules.
I've been looking through some of those threads but once you think you know the way to go there will be somebody else experiencing problems with that specific method.
I'm looking for a broader perspective.
Just as there are threads about how to upgrade there are also a lot of bugs mentioned but not everybody seems to be impacted by them.
And there are of course the custom roms, some kitkat based some lollipop based.
Before switching to the xperia I used a HTC One and there was a custom rom developer who would stick to the options foreseen in the original one but he changed the code for speed and reliability, it was also based on a aroma installer that gave the choice to leave some bloatware out at installation time.
This is something I would like to see happening for the z1c, not just adding new features but streamlining the existing rom.
As of now I'm running on the xzdualrecovery on a rooted and unlocked kitkat and I'm using some xposed modues.
I consider upgrading if I knew more about the bugs, will I be impacted and I'm looking for a complete guide on how to.
As far as I know the Italian customized rom is the one with the least bloatware in it, so that is he one I'd like to use as a start
Some people already have reported zip files you can flash from recovery and they seem to be pre-rooted. Do I need to use one of them or is it possible to
flash a rom
unlock or do I need the unlocked bootloader from the beginning?

make sure xposed runs, xposed seems to need deodexed roms, are they available?
So I like to see a plan on how to
Unlock
root
upgrade
make xposed running
have a correct bootloader
and have a recovery (xzdualrecovery or something else)
I know this is a list of questions but such a guide would help a lot of people like me, I'm not a complete newbie but I'm neither a rom developer so I like a guide on how to accomplish things.
If the stock rom is bugfree and stable enough that's the one I'd stick to, otherwise I need to have a look at custom roms and then I think I need to consult the custom rom developer on how to install his/her custom rom.
All the above mentioned questions will be related to installing / unlocking / rooting a stock rom.

This seems enough for unlocking and rooting, don't know about xposed, they don't mention it.
Even then they talk about how to unlock your bootloader.
I've done it this way in the past but I'm unsure if the bootloader for KK is the same as for Lollipop, I have no idea if this is changed. There is a thread about an unlocked bootloader, I'll ask over there if they know about differences between LP and KK, if there are none then we have guide explaining all the steps

I do not have any info yet on the bootloader but I do have some more news on Xposed.
It's not only the Xperia that's having problems with xposed on lollipop, other phones are impacted as well.
Once a certain number of apps is installed the bootlooping starts.
Xposed seems to open too many files at boot time.
A solution is to find out how many apps may be installed on your phone before it gets into a bootloop.
Another (and better) solution is to increase the upper limit of open files at boot time, but this is only available on an unlocked bootlader since it requires a modified kernel to be installed.
A lot of posts can be found at Xposed for lollipop.
Since xposed is still in an alpha phase I think rovo89 will fix this in a future release of xposed.

I am on stock RU version, heard it was the best I have also had some bootloop experiences with xposed. Some guys have reported success but their method requires a "bloatware" script that removes ****load of useful apps. Bleh!
Right now it's just wait and see. I miss xposed but am also really enjoying this lollipop update, the performance (too soon?) looks better than the custom roms available. IMO

About to recieve a OnePlus 3. Anything I should need to know?

I got it because I wanted to get into custom ROMs/Root.
Is there anything I need to know about this phone that will be helpful? Tips & Tricks?
Also I hear talk of Lineage OS vs Oxygen. Which is better and why? (Please don't be LINEAGE OF COURSE FTW, I want reasons. Couldn't find that anywhere)
Should I chose Oxygen beta 8.0, or the Lineage beta for 8.0?
Coming from an LG V10 (AT&T) where I couldn't modify it for ****, and broke after a little over a year (LG Bootloop issue)

The ROM you want to use can only be your decision based on what features you want for example if you want loads of tweaking features then I'd suggest resurrection remix and for the very latest android version then oxygen OS or lineage 8.0 both are good in their own ways you'd have to check the description to see which suits your needs , one big tip I can give you though is to always use the latest blu_spark recovery because its been modified to support a variety of ROMs and if your a flashaholic like me then always perform a nandroid backup before switching ROMs its simple advice but can save you loads of time if you don't like the ROM you've chosen and obviously before trying to unlock the bootloader via adb then enable developer options and enable OEM unlocking (some people forget) good luck and enjoy this wicked phone...

Ah ok thanks for that blu_spark bit, I was just gonna stick with stock kernel, but now I am seeing the benefits of custom ones.

I had an LG G4 , great phone but I too suffered the bootloop problem and LG did nothing to refund me so no more LG phones for me , p.s please leave a thumbs up on my posts if I've helped I truly appreciate it and if you need any more help just come back to this post and quote my message and I'll help as best I can ...

Xceeder was talking about recovery, not kernel. Since this phone is new for you, certain idiosyncrasies of this phone must be learnt. One of them is the recovery. Ofcourse official TWRP is there but it will not work with many custom ROMs. One of the best recoveries for this phone is made by bluspark who is well-known for his kernels. It is that recovery which Xceeder was talking about. I also use the same.
As regards ROMs, apart from what Xceeder stated, if you are satisfied with a smooth and battery friendly ROM, I can recommend VertexOS. But it will not have any bells or whistles. Another battery friendly and smooth ROM with some tweaks built-in is PureFusion. Both these I have used. But if you need many tweaks, go with Xceeder's recommendations. As he said, ROMs are a personal choice and what I like, you may not. So read about a few, flash a few and finalise.

Ah ok only reason I said kernel was because [kernel] was the first thing that came up when I typed in blu_spark.

Hi, I would love install many roms on my 5t, I heard a long time ago about multirom. Is it still relevant? and if yes is there someone test it?

Dualboot patcher had initial support for the 5T although some people tried and failed. There was an issue with Oreo. I will gladly donate to anyone who'd do a multirom port.

DBP works as long as you're decrypted and all secondary roms are Nougat.

Question Popularity of the device?

Hey guys,
it's been 3,5 years since I've had a Oneplus 5 and couldn't root the other phone that I had during that time.
I'm happy to be back but feel like this device isn't nearly as popular as what the previous models (at least till the 5) have been.
I feel like here's much less root related stuff (like custom Roms) to be found.
Can someone give me an update or correct me if I'm wrong?

Twrp has been out since 20th June...

Not only is TWRP a factor, but the evolution of android as a hole. Rooting isn't necessary these days to achieve desired results. My only intention on rooting my op9 pro is to remove the annoying bloatware from T-Mobile.

I feel like rooting/custom roms really are not worth it anymore.
The custom roms are designed to make the device better but in my experience you end up with more issues than you initially had when stock.

you dont have to flash custom rom when you root your phone. I use root acces for these: block ads, debloating unwanted system apps, some deep theming with swift installer and custom kernels. for example omega kernel is better than oneplus kernel now. especially while we all know that Oneplus heavily throttling well known apps.

Well, that is your opinion. From my perspective, I'm not happy with basic Android or provided extension and want to flash whatever suits me better and customize as much as I can. And rooting is must have for some specific apps I need, but generally usefull for proper ad-blocking.

I felt that way at first, coming from a OP7P where my phone had been heavily modded the whole 2 years I used it and I tried about every custom ROM and kernel available. Then I bought the OP9P on release day and there wasn't anything posted in the Dev section for about 2 months. But there were some challenges early on with a brand new device, Android 11, no TWRP until last month, etc., so development is just now really picking up. I expect to see more and more in the coming months.
And like others have said, a lot of us who used to always use custom ROMs have found other ways to mod without having to rely on ROMs, which can sometimes be a hassle. With root, custom kernels, and a whole slew of magisk modules to choose from, I personally don't have a reason to switch to a custom ROM right now, other than boredom.

Question ROM Development in the Future

when support ends, do you expect ROMs for the device? I am thinking about buying one, and having a ROM would be really nice. I have no Idea how to make a ROM work on a device...

I would REALLY like to see the development go ahead soon.
The Xperia 10 III is a really great device at a reasonable price and with its features it is practically without alternative.
The only weak point is the pre-installed Sony software...
Unfortunately, there is neither a custom recovery nor a custom rom.
GSI roms can be installed, but I unfortunately found massive limitations with these compared to native roms.
For example, GAPPs cannot be installed without a custom recovery. Or only via a diversion as a Magisk module, but then with other restrictions (missing push function, crashes, etc.).
I also had major problems with updates and upgrades.
There have already been attempts by developers to develop their own custom recoveries for the device. The development of custom ROMs has also been discussed.
However, these projects seem to have more or less come to nothing so far.
I myself had already started the first attempts, but I simply have to admit that I definitely lack the skills for this.
Therefore, I hope that the developers here in the forum will become aware of this smartphone and recognise its potential.
And that not just at the end of the official support period.
