[closed] lucky patcher problem, running unoffical lineageos 15.1 android 8.1 - LineageOS Questions & Answers

[EDIT] it is fixed! I got it working, it was BusyBox etc
Hi. I have a problem that is with lucky patcher, and I don't know how to fix it or if any alternative apps is available for it. My device is originally a Samsung Galaxy S5 2016 (sm-a510f) with swedish carrier known as Comviq(tele2) and has unlocked bootloader and is rooted through magisk. Don't know if following info helps but had a problem when changing from superSU to magisk that involved me flashing stock rom.
My problem with lucky patcher started now after I flashed my rom and THE problem is that I mostly use lucky patcher for in app purchases, and when I used stock rom...it worked flawless(just took it's time but worked 7-10 times. Those 3 times is apps that lucky patcher cannot hack ) but now, I have an app, let's say subway surfers because it should work with lucky patcher... When I had the stock rom... It showed me the process and then creating odex file and then optional patches or something like that... Didn't pay much attention but now... With lineageOS, it doesn't even go that far and then done, patch 1 and 2 are green, and that normally should work ( should work with only number 1 or number 2 green ) and I open the app. When I wanted to buy something before, the prices could look something like 0.33, 0.35, 0.82 etc but now, it shows me the full real price, and when I go to hack a purchase...it doesn't prompt me the usual lucky patcher pop up... It gives me the Google play store. Is there any fix to this like a flashable zip or is lucky patcher not possible because gapps was used for all Google apps. Down below you have some info and links to where i grabbed my lineageOS, my gapps type (stock, full, super etc) and such. I would like if anyone could try to help me with this problem and I haven't tried anything, the only thing I tried was to reinstall it, and that didn't do anything. If there is anything with me running lineageOS, or having Android 8.1, then is there any settings or module that could make it work? If not...is there any alternative apps that works like lucky patcher... (Freedom, gamecih etc don't work either
specs/info that might help you:
Bootloader: unlocked
OS: lineageOS
Is your lineageOS official: no, it's unofficial
Android version: 8.1
Recovery: TWRP
Any access to Odin: yes but computer is my mom's and I'm not really allowed to use it so i would say no. Access is 1-10 but works every
Access to adb: unknown, I have adb on my mom's computer but I have no idea how to use it...
Where I grabbed my lineageOS version: https://goo.gl/cKH1dP
Don't worry, the link is shortened and will redirect you to a XDA thread with lineageOS for Samsung Galaxy A5 2016
Faster download for lineageOS if you need to look into the files (Google drive): https://goo.gl/aHxG95
My gapps os: 8.1
My gapps type: super
If you need any more information, please let me know. I know quite much technical language, so I would say I'm over average. Thanks in advance

Well to do it, it's very simple, if you're on Windows just follow up this link:
If you are running Ubuntu or an Ubuntu based distro on your machine the process is different, and it's more complicated for a new comer.
So in order to make it simply for the user i released this zip containing an automate script so just run Zenfone2Root.sh into a terminal window and leave it work.

Stock android on ZF2
Hi.
Thank you very much for the super informative post. I am going to buy a ZF2 and I want to check if it is possible to run stock Android in this device. This is more an option for me and not a necessity. I just do not like customizations such as ZenUI, HTC Sense, TouchWiz and so. I have chosen this model for the price vs functionality otherwise I know that I could go for a Nexus model or a Motorola device that run on near stock android.
Thank you again.
P. S. I have never rooted any of my android devices so far. I am not familiar with the process and I always have the fear that I may brick my device.

Any way to try out LOS without installing it on a phone ?

Hi
I have a Honor 5X (kiwi / KIW-L21) as my daily driver and as its nearing the end of it warranty (2 years) its starting to run slower (good job, Huawei). Given this and the fact that during these two years i never received ANY update apart from an update to android 6.0.1 from android 5, im considering switching to LOS 16.
The thing is im completely new to custom ROMs, recovery, phone rooting and that jazz and im a bit scared.
I wanted to know if there is a way I can try out LOS 16 (say for example on a VM) to be sure that i like it before installing.
If not, would I be able to restore my phone back to its current OS in case i dont like LOS and want to fall back to EMUI ?
PS : I wanted to try it out on an older phone I have and for which i dont care as much, but its not supported :'( Its an Asus Zenfone go ZB552KL
Thanks in advance !
The oldphone approach is a good idea. Go to a recycling place and grab some old Motorola or Samsung phones. Broken screen is OK.

My local trash collecting place isn't very open to people who want to take stuff (yes, what a nonesense) but i'll try that i guess. The thing is we have like 3 or 4 old phones but none of them are listed as compatible on the LOS website

You don't need official. Search XDA and you will find unofficial lineageOS for many old phones. https://twrp.me/Devices/ is a good place to find the phone's code name. With that you can check stats.lineageos.org for popular ROM versions.
Will give it a look, thanks.
If nothing usefull comes out of this investigation and I end up doing it on my 5X, is there a way for me to backup the whole phone (i mean not just data, like the whole OS) that way I can fall back to its current state if something goes wrong / i dont like LOS ?

To be honest, there's various ways for backing up a whole device but, there's limited (possibly no) choices that all depends upon the device itself and the capabilities of said device. So there's no real way of answering this question without, also, taking under consideration that what works for one may/may not work for another.
With that stated...
I've always found that the only way to know if I like something as huge as updating the Custom Android version Firmware, is to "Hope for the Best and Prepare for the Worse".
I've been successful with Restoring TWRP Backups made but, have always had an (approximately) 50% +/- of a restoration working without any issues (a chance of requiring a fresh installation in the end).
In another words...
The only "recommended" way to upgrade/downgrade the LineageOS Android Versions is to make sure you have everything on hand for performing a fresh installation for both the upgrading and the downgrading of both Android Versions.
For anyone to guide you any other way should (ethically) be able to provide you with guidance in case something goes wrong in the process (of said guidance) with your specific device.
You should also ask for support and guidance within the LineageOS thread and, if needed, somewhere within the Device Dedicated Area of the forum that's specific to your device. This will help locate assistance from those who has your device as well.
For example...
[ROM][9.0.x] LineageOS 16.0 Official (kiwi) [NO VoLTE] by BadDaemon
[ROM] [9.x] LineageOS 16.0 Pie Unofficial for Honor 5x (kiwi) by coldhans
https://forum.xda-developers.com/honor-5x
I hope that I had explained this okay via text...
I wish you the best of luck!

Hi there, thanks for the answer and sorry for the delayed reaction, I was busy
I will investigate on the linked threads and see what I want to do after that. My main concern being fingerprint sensor gestures (I know, stupid habits lol) asking on the kiwi forum is definitely a good idea. Same things for installing TWRP and the recovery, someone there would probably be able to help.
Thanks a lot for your time

Lineage downloader can't connect

Dear reader,
since a couple of days my device (samsung S7: SM-G930F) is running low on battery really quick. So I thought; it has been a while since my device asked me to update the new Lineage version. So I gave the app the instruction to look for updates, and it gave me the following notification.
Can't connect to download site. Please retry later.
When actually
You device is supported by the lineageOS team, but there are no versions that support this type of publication: Nightly. (this is translated from Dutch, so actual English sentece might be different).
Switching to Snapshot instead of Nightly in the Settings didn't help.
Then when searching again for updates it gave me the message:
No source file
Request for file: lineage-14.1-20181124-nightly-herolte-signed.zip To reconstruct the last update, the zip of the app should actually be installed. Do you want to select this file manually from storage, or download the last full zip-version?
When I press: download full zip-file it gives the following:
Error during implementation. Try to refresh.
When I click on select file (from storage), and select lineage-14.1-20180927-nightly-herolte-signed.zip, it gives me the message:
You should select the right source file. But I don't have that one on my storage; it's froma different date.
Can anyone help me please?
Kind regards,
Chris

S7 is no longer officially supported by lineageOS. You can search here in XDA for unofficial ROMs.
I have no big hope that a new ROM will really solve your battery issue. Most of the the success stories are a result of a clean ROM installation.

In addition to the outstanding information that @kurtn had provided...
There's no Official LineageOS Updater Apps on the Play Store.
The reason is that they have an implemented LineageOS Updater built into the Firmware and has no need to provide any such app separately from the firmware. That would just be counterproductive to the built in Updater.
The LineageOS Updater App(s) on the Play Store is via a 3rd party developer. I'm not stating that any/all of them are either good or bad but, individuals need to know that their Unofficial and is in no way supported by the Official Lineage Team Maintainers.
Just a few (so to speak) words of advice to keep in mind. I remember asking about them (quite a while ago) and those were the types of words/thoughts by @invisiblek and @haggertk (whose a part the Official Lineage Lead Maintainers).
No lectures here... Just some friendly information for you My Friend!
Good Luck!

Hi Kurt and Ibuprophen, thanks for your answers!
Now I have finally holiday and time to actually fix things it's time to continue this
So current situation;
Phone running out of battery within half a day without frequent using, apps crashing > update definitely required.
Phone model: Samsung S7 SM-930F
LineageOS version: 14.1-20181124-NIGHTLY-herolte (so last update is over a year old)
Android version 7.1.2
Options:
1. Just reset to factory settings? Most easy option, but I think it will have negative influence when I use the phone for another year?
2. I found this unoficcial ROM https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s7/development/beta-lineageos-16-0-s7-herolte-t3842465, however, it doesn't include instructions and it is very technical and it speaks of Android 9 as base, which I don't have; just 7.1.2. Would that be a problem?
3. Update to 15.1 instead if that is easier?
So what would be your advice? Please bear in mind that I am a technical noob and can only follow instructions that are extremely clear & correct
Until now I haven't found instructions I felt comfortable with unfortunately.
By the way my laptop has Linux Mint Cinnamon 19.2

Oh, looks like ivan does a good job. I think it is a good idea to install his rom.
But be aware: whatever it is, that eats your battery, it can come back.
Edit: be aware: from the threads it looks like 15.1 and 16.0 are not SELinux enforcing. So the gain of security is not as high as one would expect from security patch level. So you can try a factory reset of 14.1 as well.
Do you think there is an easy, technical-illiterates-friendly way to install this version of ivan? I am not that keen to have the highest possible security.
When I am emptying the phone anyway, it seems best to me to have the most recent version (if it doesn't matter that I have android 7.1 and not android 9).

Let's find a balance between security and ability to use apps which we have to.
Most of us have people who use messengers we don't trust, but we still need to communicate with those people.
Another CONCERN is a fact that most of the apps rely on google for push notifications. Google get all the content, no matter how secure your messenger is.
If you don't have Google Services, then you have problems with notifications. Here MicroG will help us.
So, let's make a secure environment for apps we use, but don't trust.
You gonna need:
This rom installed
Magisk + "microG installer Revived"
Shelter
Let's do it!
Open Shelter app and let it create work profile.
Then you need to make sure install some apps in there:
If you install Aurora Store inside Shelter it will allow to easily manage apps from Play Store.
You can clone magisk to shelter( enable multi user in the main app first, then clone) and install firewall inside the shelter.
Update:
Another way is to install vpn inside shelter and enable kill switch. So apps inside shelter only won't have internet access unless you enable VPN.
I use protonvpn, it give 3 countries for free and it's more than enough for average user.
Beware that when VPN is outside of the shelter, on the mainland, apps on shelter will bypass it, so you need to have clients on both. You may have 2 different VPN clients enabled if you need to.
What do we get?
See "Contacts" and "Files"?
Those are seperate from the mainland, so you can just add your relatives' phone numbers and WhatsApp will only see those.
We are LIMITING ACCESS TO FILES AND CONTACTS.
Plus we can easily freeze those apps, or limit connectivity with a firewall, or vpn.
Result:
You can use apps, that brings vulnerabilities or privacy concerns in a locked, controlled environment.
Still receive notifications without sending them to Google.
Or you can try VMOS, at your own risk of course
Short message for each of you.
This rom is a result of a project which aim to strip android back to it's core, so WE CAN BUILD IT THE WAY WE WANT IT. Not the way market researchers say we want it.
In short, this ROM is a prototype of community communication device.
Everyone can join the digital freedom project. I am sure each of us can help a cause.

Not real,but VM
If you set "apply on boot", you will notice that boot animation will become smaller ,but it's the same trickery as adb commands.
g8141 does not work, reboots right after sony logo no bootanimation.
p.s. flashed over .107 stock rom with twrp 3.2.3-0
edit: installation guide is a bit vague, do we MUST flash this? https://androidfilehost.com/?fid=4349826312261694774
It says
IF WIPED SYSTEM/USING AOSP/WANT TO ENABLE SECOND SIM ON G8141
but I didn't wiped system nor using aosp nor want to enable second sim
second edit: Needs few reboots before booting to system, seems to work like intended.
Some suggestions:
Please find a solution to Automatic reboot when sim tray is removed, since I don't use dual sim and switch SD cards frequently it gets frustrating so fast. Thanks in advance.
Qualcomm Device Security still persists on this rom, it has an apk under vendor\app\QualcommTelemetry(?)
Video Enhancement is not working, at least on settings preview.
VERY USEFUL: Show charging current on lock screen, existenz rom had it.
Dark/Full Black System theme
Boot time is unacceptable, it takes around 2 minutes for normal boot, whereas even in a bloated stock it took around 30~ seconds. It is due to your framework changes and deodexing. However, I've been able to restore optimal boot time by changing all frameworks.
@undefine,
Yeah, boot time is longer because because of deodexing. Frameworks are untouched though in this rom.
If you want Video Enhancements, then you need to go back to android 8 and istall drm patch.... Since they fixed the camera on Pie nobody really bothers with other drm related things...
Agree on the dual sim reboot thing, it's annoying, but I have no idea how to disable it for now. If you really don't need to dual sim functionality then you can try flashing this rom on top of G8141 version and make sure you got kernel as well.
Theme is overlay, adding functionality to the lock-screen require modifying services.jar to disable signature (super user mod), both are security risks... You may flash existenz on top and remove what you don't need. At your own risk of course

I think boot time is not because frameworks are changed but some are missing, I just reflashed with everything in stock framework folder, it seems to be blazing fast as normal. I'm actually surprised it booted that fast even with Deodex.
As far as I remember Video Enhancements worked on stock 9 at least on my device, I have my drm keys though since I waited for a proper ta backup. However it is not a must feature either.
I'd rather flash opengapps full package than flashing existenz over this rom . I will look into some other tricks for showing charge current, maybe some xposed module exists?
Anyway, thanks for your contribution to this device. Cleanest stock rom I've ever used (besides one bloat called Qualcomm Device Security which I immediately removed).

[SOLVED] Ungoogled Lineageos

Hi,
Does someone know or can recommand an ungoogled Os (MicroG, floss app replacing base app, the less google fingerprints as possible) on a lineageos 18 base or very similar exist ?
Hello, you I would recommand you the best alternative (support-wise) : /e/ OS https://e.foundation/
It a very cleverly thought project and advanced, you can buy phones already with the os loaded (for you grandma) and it comes with micro g already in. There is even an account linked to the phone to save contacts and parameters.
It is ungoogled as much it can (clock server, dns server etc).
I would recommand installing it on a Samsung S9 or Fairphone as other phones are not having a support as quick as those (Android Q update and easy installer etc) .
Hi @Gabriel-Roger and thanks for your reply. I already check this option. But unfortunetly /e/ is not avalaible for my device. Moreover it has micro G currently i don't need anything about google or google play service. My whole apps came from Fdroid and don't need it. Finally i choose to use LineageOs on my phone with custom ungoogled settings find here and there.

Hello, thank you very much for this link, I was looking for such a tutorial for a long time !
I tried to modify the file /system/etc/gps_debug.conf in order to remove A-GPS google server but I cannot modify this file even though I have magisk installed and a root file explorer that says it has root access.
Have you done such a thing ? How
yes depends of the file manager, one guy on xda recommand me mixplorer, you can find it here on xda. it works pretty well with this file manager.
Did you do the webview change with bromite ? i failed on this busybox not seems to work on lineage 18

Hello, tried with other file explorers but I got the same behavior, those system foldes must still be read only for me. I tried mixplorer but it doesnt work on my phone.
Regarding the webview, I only deactivated the app as I do not use it and it doesnot represents any risk by doing this.
Regarding the Captive portal, i have error that let me think that those commands are not working for LOS18.1.
It's like with the gps.conf, it does not exist. There is a gps_debug.conf file but it is not used.
You right i did the change on the gps debug file i didn't find the gps.conf....
Mixplorer works on mine maybe different rom we use ? on my way its LOs 18.1 by Andy.
For the captive portal i used the second part of the first link i gave you on XDA, works properly for me :

For Android 8/9:
1. Open a terminal on your phone (via terminal apps).
2. Type the following command:
- su
- su
- pm disable com.android.captiveportallogin
- settings put global captive_portal_detection_enabled 0
- settings put global captive_portal_server localhost
- settings put global captive_portal_mode 0
3. Then reboot your phone (via hardware buttons, system or terminal app).

Hi, Thanks for the other method regarding captive portal. I did it but I have no way to verify if it worked :/
Regarding the gps debug.conf, I still cannot modify it, I have tried updating magisk to version 22 but I still can't !
My Rom is Ivan meller 18.1 on Samsung S10
And yes I do have a webbrowser, I use Firefox installed through Aurora
