The new S4 is marketed as to use with a keyboard, preferably the original samsung keyboard cover. In multiple reviews I've read you can use this cover in only one position. What I would like to know is if you can flip the keyboard completely over (360 degrees) as I would do intuitively when using it as a drawing block using the S Pen.
Wondering that too, I've pre-ordered so will get the keyboard cover free a few weeks after I get the device, so potentially it'll be unprotected during that time. I'll probably buy a case from Amazon (seen one for around £6) to see me through.
From what I saw in store, yes the keyboard can flip over behind the device.
Though I did find this interesting on the Tab S3 the little 1/3 flap behind the tablet secured to the back side of the device automatically, pretty well to hold it in place if you flipped the keyboard over behind the screen. The S4 did not, and there was a little extra slop in the case because of this. Course it might be the security device holding it down but its just something I noticed.
Well, yes and no. It can but backwards. It would have been nice if it was able to fold back with the tablet's back against the keyboard but it actually flips over so that the keys are at the bottom and the tablet is at the top. I'm unsure if this does damage to the keys but its not optimal.

why not just use the otg cable, plug in your logitech module, and use your logitech keyboard and mouse? For the rare times I need a keyboard, that's what I do. Then the tablet is still easily used as you always would, flip, landscape, etc.

That is a silly question because many folks will use this as a traditional portable tablet as well as an occassional desktop machine. When you are out and about with your expensive tablet, you need a case to protect it from accidents, but this case also needs to be convenient. Leather wallet / folio cases are ideal for this, but (most) obviously don't feature a keyboard. Given how slippery this tablet is, with its all glass rear, I'm guessing that accidents may be relatively frequent!
So the OPs original question is pefectly valid. What is the likely durability of the keyboard when folded right over and sat on the users lap, for example, playing Pokemon on a bus? Perhaps, maybe, the keyboard case is an expensive gimmick and a standard leather wallet case would be a much better option (if such a thing actually exists yet)? The real leather case on my Galaxy NotePro 12.2 has served me extremely well over the years.

Personally, I never play Pokemon, however, my daughter does on her commute to work... and the Tab S4 is her tablet Cables and peripherals are totally impractical in this particular usage case. Everyone has different requirements. Anyway, her "free" keyboard case has just been delivered today, so I'll check it out tonight.

However, this is an interesting point for discussion, as to how folk plan to make use of their new investment. From what I can work out from my daughter, at home it will be docked into a Cable Matters USB-C hub and used to stream movies over an Ethernet LAN connection, to her HDMI TV, amongst numerous other things. At work, she will use it as a desktop with the keyboard case and a bluetooth mouse. I've already described her commute.
If it were mine, I'd be using it as a passenger navigation device, along with AlpineQuest and a full set of OSGB maps, which is what I currently do with my aging NotePro.
Now that I've received the keyboard case I can confirm that the case can be flipped in such a way that the keyboard faces up, into the rear of the case when using as a traditional tablet. In this mode, the footprint of the tablet extends along a long edge by 38mm, which is due to the way the "fold" works.
Alternatively, it can be flipped with the keyboard facing down, which only extends the footprint by 10mm along the same edge.
First impressions are that it adds a fair bit of weight to the tablet, mainly due to good build quality. The case is pretty solid, but not padded, so it may not be great at absorbing shocks, say from a drop! The keyboard is compact, but has a reasonable feel. Note, that the pen is essential for using the keyboard with DeX as there is no trackpad.
Is it worth the RRP? Err, no, however, as a pre-order "freebe", I've got no grounds to complain.

I own this and am quite happy with it. Looks good and the keyboard is a joy to type on.
Two things I'm not very happy about are weight (unavoidable, I guess) and, mostly, that there is no way to use it with the tab in portrait mode. Oh, and I think it is a tad too expensive.
I would have bought the Logitech, if only I could. For the portrait mode. But I don't at all regret having bought the Samsung.

thanks for your reply mate, really appreciate it. yeh its a tad expensive isnt it, thats why I wanted some opinions before buying it. I never use my tablets in potrait mode, unless I am reading a comic which is very rare. the 10.1 just looks silly in potrait if you ask me lol
Also, I usually prefer to have it on my lap rather than on desks, does the stand sit stable on laps? because the stand kinda looks weak and unstable. I know it'll be fine on desks and tables but does it slide around when in your lap?

hey thanks for the link bro. I've owned similar cases for other tablets before and I really dont like the rubber keyboards on them.
oh and I went ahead and bought the samsung keyboard dock instead of the keyboard case. the dock is great. since it has got the 30 pin connector, the tab slots right in and you dont have to worry about it falling. and most importantly the dock sits stable on my lap and I can type just like a normal laptop. it doesnt move around. I really like it

maybe you can check Apple bluetooth Keyboard.. quite good man. it's light, good materials and 100% compatible.

I have the Zagg case and it is pretty great. I also have the Samsung white keyboard which is almost perfect except that it will revert to the Samsung on screen keyboard after using it . This is a pain since I use touchpal.
The new OEM keyboard case looks handsome but not as useful as Zagg.

Yes, it can. There's four little rubber stops that keep the keys off the screen when closed that double as feet when fold the keyboard under the way you described. And while yes, it's pricey, it's the slimmest, best fitting, and best made of the keyboard cases out there.
I purchased the official case cover a few days ago from Samsung. I am shocked about how few reviews there have been online. I could not find a decent video review. I am hoping that the build quality is decent, as my Zagg keyboard (Zaggfolio) broke - the space bar no longer works. I will probably take the replacement keyboard they sent me and sell it on ebay.

Pro's
Very light, form fitting, well designed. Easy to type on.
Con's
No touchpad, no sd port, no built in battery, pretty expensive, cannot really use effectively in the portrait mode.
Overall, this is clearly superior to the Zaggfolio. .. but pales in comparison to the Asus Transformer keyboard (which is the same MSRP).

Just got this case today and I must say I am completely happy with this purchase.
It literally turns your tablet into a laptop.
Duqjag complains about not having a touch pad however the entire screen is a touch pad which would make a little square panel obsolete and difficult to use.
My only quarms with this keyboard is the left shift key being so small that you'll find yourself with a lot of \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ on your screen when trying to capitalize a letter.
Also if there were a way to make certain trigger keys customizable this would enhance the experence too. e.g. the mail button opens the mail app as opposed to the google mail app. Internet button opens the stock browser as opposed to Opera or dolphin.
It stands up on almost every surface without issue and if you fold the keyboard over it also acts as a bottom panel to keep the screen in a face up position.
Vertically it doesnt work but do laptops????
Fork out the cash I say and enjoy the ride. As tablets get better internally, 10.1 will still be a dimension samsung keeps using so i can confidentally say that this case will be transferable to newer models.

I've got the Samsung BT-Keyboard-Case here in Germany for a really affordable price - 57,- €, and it is worth every cent. The look and feel of the case is noble, but durable, and when I carry it arround here at my college the I-Thing-users get possessive.
It has a built-in recharable battery which lasts for some 3 days. I use it flipped over as a night stand at my bed, listening to Tune-in radio, I work with it every day, and the cover protects the case perfectly.
The only con is that it doubles the weight of the pure tab, but I really can say that I am happy with it and would always buy it again.
I am looking for keyboard as well, want something nice, shineny neath, but inexpensive. (Not sure it does exist )
Are those aluminum bluetooth keyboard on ebay and amazon so useless? Any suggestion pls.

So I got a 10.1v model, not the standard 10.1 so pretty much any keyboard that would need the tab to slide into it is a no-go for me as the 10.1v is a few milliliters thicker.
So, unless you point me to anything else, this is the only keyboard I've encountered that I could use that is somewhat "tied" to the tablet :

To answer the OP's question... I just got one from eBay for $26 US. It works very well. For that much money, it's hard to beat. Your CDMA GT should fit in it just fine. Both the keybaord and the case are good quality, and can't be beat for that much money.
I do see one potential problem, however. When the case is latched closed the rubber (soft plastic) bracket that supports the base of the tablet comes into contact the screen and does exert a slight amount of pressure on the screen. Over time I am guessing that may damage the screen, but I'm just guessing - not sure about that at all.
Actually, I like the standard Samsung book case the best for the Galaxy Tab, and I don't always need the keyboard. So I'm going to take the little rubber keyboard out of this case and carry that separately. For $26, even that is a great buy.

I've been using the Mobile Keyboard 6000 from Microsoft for a few weeks now.
The price is a bit overkill but sure worth the quality you get. And the number pad being detached from the letters is a nice feature if your on the go all the time, leaving the number pad behind is sometimes a plus. It is slightly bigger then the tablet itself but i don't mind since also use it for at home.
Ive been rocking the typing book cover for 2 days now, and so far i like it aside from a few things. But its not putting me off of it with its sleek tight fit.
The main issue is that there is no place to hold a stylus. (PS definitely worth the 20 bones to pick one up) and second, when it is being held in its typing arrangement, you cannot have anything plugged in besides the headphones. It does have a small slit so that the headphone jack doesn't have to be removed and put back in every time but they didn't do the same for the charger/accessory port.

I just picked the same one up at Target for $30 on clearance yesterday. Not a fan and I wouldn't recommend it. The cookie-sheet case feels flimsy and it doesn't protect the back of the tablet at all. The metal edges are kind of sharp (not knife sharp) but I have to be careful not to scratch the sides of my tab when putting it face down in this case. I also don't feel that it's very secured when closed (tablet face down). The keyboard works alright, it's very responsive, and it pairs easily and maintains it's connection, but some of the dedicated buttons don't work. I also would rather re-map some of the android keys such as the email button to open gmail. Maybe I can, but haven't looked into it. I guess it's ok if you're looking for a cheap bluetooth keyboard, but I don't trust it to protect my tablet. Idk how logitech justified this as a $100 case.

High price but i could not find any other that would ship to sweden. Amazon had some but the shipping price was higher (total cost more den 55$).

This looks great. How did it work?
I read the reviews and I just bought a similar case but bought a bluetooth keyboard separately. Its similar to Apple with the scissor keys and works well. This way I can use it for movies and not have to worry about a keyboard in the case.

The keyboard cover arrived on Saturday and I've had a chance to give it a workout. I'm using it now to type this.Here are some observations....
1. The overall impression is quite good. It seems well made and holds both tablet andkeyboard securely with good protection.
2. The whole package becomes quite heavy and bulky, not unlike a hefty Filofax of old.
3. The keyboard fastens into the cover with magnets. The strength of hold seems spot on - held firmly enough, but easily removed.
4. The keyboard part is very light indeed. The weight is in the cover.
5. The keyboard works well, but of course the keys are small and close and typing mistakes are made as I need to get used to it.
6. Unfortunately for the UK market there is no £ key on the keyboard and I have no idea how to access the key without turning off the keyboard, waiting for the tablet to release the connection and then using the on screen keyboard to input the character. It takes longer to drop the missing keyboard connection than to reacquire it.
7. The tab on the cover is soft enough to be tucked out of the way under the keyboard and will stay put fairly easily.
8. The biggest functional problem (bulk, weight and missing key aside) is that with the tablet secured within the cover the surrounding material, which covers the bezels, sticks up proud and make it quite difficult to touch the notification bar for a double tap or to pull notifications down. To a lesser degree there is a similar problem with the navigation buttons.
9. The cover does act like a smart cover, turning the tablet on and off when opened and closed.
10. If the tablet is rebooted the Bluetooth pairing is lost and manual reconnection is necessary.
Overall it's not a bad product, especially for the price, but there is room for improvement. I will continue using the keyboard in isolation, but instead of the heavy/bulky/awkward cover I shall use the cover I already bought, with smart cover, and use the keyboard loose and free from the tablet. That will allow me to grab the tablet for a low profile and light weight for mobility (pocketable) and just leave the keyboard back home on the desk (coffee table).

I wonder if this app would help - I used it with another bluetooth keyboard and tablet when I had the same issue, though I haven't tried it with my G Pad yet. In my case, the £ sign was printed on the keyboard but despite this it was permanently set to US layout in the software somehow (despite the tablet language and default input language being set to UK), so I got # when I tried to get £, I think, and also " and @ were swapped. Basically the app lets you select a region/language and then your external keyboard should behave as if the keys are what you'd expect for that region - so if you press Shift+3 you should get £ regardless of what's printed on the keyboard itself. It doesn't display an onscreen keyboard, and the tablet should default automatically to the app settings when it detects your external keyboard, so once you do the initial setup it's pretty seamless. There's a demo version so you could see if it worked before buying. It's called External Keyboard Helper and is available from the Play store.
Have had bad experiences with cases where the magnets haven't cooperated and the auto-sleep feature has been less than convenient. The s pen hasn't worked correctly and sometimes the tablet has gone to sleep without me touching the power button... just because the case has been folded so that the magnet has been pressed to the back of the tablet. Cheap cases? I confess... yes they have been. But after the first one I didn't really want to risk buying a more expensive one just to end up sitting with the knife and cutting out the magnet again. So l bought another cheap one... to see if the first one had been a "bad luck buy". Well, it wasn't and the second one behaved the same way... and the third one too. Is this a typical "cheap case thing" or is it something you can expect also with the more expensive ones? The best thing would of course be if this was an optional feature... that you can disable. On my iPad it's optional with a switch in the settings. I haven't found something on the Note 10.1 though. So my questions are...
• IS this a typical "cheap case syndrome"?
• IS the function optional on the Note 10.1 2014? (Or can it be done in another way?)

Firstly I have a book cover and have no trouble. I think it is a cheap case thing. Samsung official book cover has magnets in it and from what people say they have no issues with them. In settings there are an options for the book cover in accessories section try play with those settings.
BTW: the name of my case is Snugg it was $18.

Funny thing... maybe something I should keep to myself. But what the heck. Noone here knows me anyway. I found the option now... and not only that. I had actually turned it off. I must have done it by mistake while looking for it, because I sure can't remember ever finding it. Blind or senile. I must be at least one of them. LOL
But out of curiosity. I gather it must be some kind of sensor in that area since l was moving the cover's magnet area around and when it came close to that area it turned off without the screen being covered. Does that setting control the function or does it control the sensor itself? (If it only controls the function, the S Pen would still have behaved weird. around that area.)
Well, thank you anyway. Now I don't have to wonder about the setting anymore. Now I'm more worried about how come I never found it myself. l thought I had looked everywhere... including that area. But now I found it instantly. Far from hidden (even in a settings group with the NAME 'Book cover'). Maybe time for the annual doctor's checkup.
I'm looking for a few things for my new P600, but not really turning anything up. Hoping someone can point me in the right direction.
1. Is there a dock charger for this device? I thought I saw one that might work, but curious to know what others might be using.
2. What usb cord can I use instead of the included one that is way too short. Will any work or does it need to be "special"?
3. Alternate pens? I have tiny hands but I can't stop from clicking that button while writing.

Ok, so here is the charger I'm considering: Samsung Desktop Dock (EE-D100TNWEGUJ); found at Amazon.com; There seem to be mixed reviews as to whether it works or not. Has anyone here tried it with success? I've found other 3rd party ones, but again nothing to determine absolutely if they work.
Next, I found one of my longer USB cords and it did work with the charger. So, that was helpful.
As for the stylus - I'm not talking about the button on the tablet itself, I keep accidentally pressing the little button on the stylus which then opens the s-pen wheel, or causes other issues. I've read that other wacom pens might work, but those posts were 2 years old. I'm not sure what's available now.
1.There are many and various kind of micro usb charing and sync on Amazon and Ebay, but it's annoying when you want to pick the tablet up,so I recommend you to just buy any simple tablet stand and turn your tablet 180°. In this way, you're also able to turn you tablet vertically to open some documents aside you while charging.
2.I'm using Moshi's micro usb cable wih 3 metres long which I don't have to be worried about where the plug is anymore. However, due to length of the cable and high power consuming of the tablet(because of 2K screen and other), if I play some high graphic games like asphalt8, it won't charge but just slow down the percentage.
I tried this cable with other smartphone, there is no problem with charging speed as 1m metre.
I bought it from iStudio(an authorized Apple retailler in my country) at around 25$

3.I'm using Wacom Bamboo Smart which is compatible with any Galaxy Note. Unfortunately , no eraser tip.
Compare to original Spen, there is nothing change much but almost real writing feel because of size of the pen.
I'm prefered this one more than the original spen.

Thanks for the pen recommendation, that looks terrific and the price seems reasonable.
As for charging... right now I do put the note upside down so I can plug the charger on top, but the annoying thing to me is that the buttons are now moved to the top. I wish they were software buttons and not hardware. This is beginning to be a problem with me as I am always having to reorient myself every time I rotate the tablet. Not to mention not being able to access the volume/power buttons underneath. I thought a dock could perhaps keep the tablet in the mode that it's intended.

1. The Samsung Desktop Dock is what I'm using right now to charge my tablet overnight. The microUSB port is placed on a flexible platform that slightly bends back and forward to aid in tablet placement, but I would be careful just in case. Also the dock might not fit most cases unless its a ultraslim tpu case. But if you have the official book cover, it fits without any problems.
2. I think most cords would work.
3. The Wacom Bamboo pen, if I'm not wrong, was mentioned often in threads for S-Pen alternatives. The earlier models (V1?) had a considerable amount of offset while the second version was more improved. Personally, I have stuck an extra S-Pen in a Pilot G-2 pen and it works awesomely, lol.

Can you do a step by step of your g2 mod? That sounds amazing. I tried the full sized Samsung pen, and it was alright.pilot g2s are awesome though and I never lose them, unlike that Samsung pe

This is the mod I used for the G-2 pen.

It's a seemingly simple mod, but I recall that shoving the s-pen in the G-2 pen took a considerable amount of force, so be careful of that.
I also didn't do the second part to access the s-pen button because the rubber part is a PITA to remove lol.
