Are there any Pixel 2 XL owners who also use Android Auto? My SMS messages come in just fine, but my MMS ones never show up on the Android Auto home screen. Do I need to adjust anything settings-wise in order to see/receive incoming MMSs on Android Auto?

Yep...
Oh just realized you said it's specifically MMS messages. I rarely get MMS to notice whether or not it shows up for me.

Yeah. It could be only SMS messages that will only pop up on Android Auto. Grrrrr!
Are you using the stock Messages app or something else?

correct, sms only. no way to display mms in android auto, which sucks because there can be text associated with the media, but cant be accessed.
Kind of makes sense cause it's assuming MMS is a media and not containing text like a group text does. I use instant messengers for group texting so I don't deal with it but I can see the annoyance.

All you have to do is to install Go SMS, and then choose the iPhone theme
I did that, but after that, i received messages both in GO SMS an Stock Messenger app.How to do to receive messages only in Go SMS or set Go SMS as default?

I use 360 launcher and when click message icon there is a option to select default but I think it's a launcher option.
Anyway try the launcher it's cool and I'm in love with it it's amazingly smooth.I extracted it from a ROM in development section and use it over cm7.for screen shots check the LG ROM there.

I don't know about you, but when i installed it I got the question about whether I wanted use GoSMS as the default application for receiving messages. But you could do this:
Go into messages (the normal app) -> Menu -> Settings -> Scroll down to where it says notifications, and unhook it That should work.
Worked when I installed the ported ICS Messaging app and had the same problem as you
None will receive. It's the android system that receives the sms and not the app. The app only deals with them. It will appear on both and you can use even both. That's why you choose the default one

Both receive but GO sms allows u to.disable notifications in stock app
I think this will help you. if it does please THANK me.

Hey everyone. Only complaint I have regarding the G4 is the fact that sometimes I don't receive messages. Could it be the fact that I have an existing MMS between these 2 people, so it causes issues when texting them directly? No idea how to solve this... I'm on TMobile

I have the same problem all the time. I'll get some of the group texts (mms) and then sporadically I'll get a separate one from a member of the group chat with that download button you pictured but I can never download it. I don't know what to do.
Adblock effs up my receiving and sending of MMS messages. If you have it, try to disable.

Are you using the stock messaging app? I just downloaded hangouts and the separate message (which didn't go through) doesn't even show up on hangouts. Wondering if there isn't even a message in the first place, but it's for some reason displaying that separate text notification when they send you an actual mms?

Adaway works fine for me. It's Adblock that gives trouble. They are two different apps.

My phone keeps asking me every time Bluetooth connects to my car if I would like to grant access to messages. Why is this not being remembered? How can I make this happen?

Try resetting BT in the car and phone and pair afresh. When it pairs, normally a dialogue box will appear on the phone asking to which apps access should be given. Enable messages and whatever else you need.

Thanks for the response. I've done this. I factory reset the phone (for other reasons) and repaired. No change.
Strange that message access isn't listed in the settings. When I select my car in my phone's Bluetooth settings:

Reg. the screen shot, did you try to scroll down and see if messages was there?
EDIT : for me message access comes after contact sharing. Since my dpi is 420, it is shown within the box without scrolling.

No, I don't have anything after contact sharing. It doesn't scroll past what is posted on the screen shot.

I have an unrooted Google Pixel 2 XL running the Android P Developer Preview. When Android Auto comes on (via my car's Bluetooth) my phone ALWAYS goes into Do Not Disturb mode. It's a pain to have to turn it off once the app launches every time. Does anyone know why this happens?
It's a safety feature. You could always adjust your Do Not Disturb settings to allow text messages.

I also have a unrooted pixel XL with Android p. Mine is also doing this and I hate it. I can't here any directions if I am using the app for directions on how to get somewhere and I can't use the music part of Android auto either because I can't here it either. Is there anyway to turn it off. It is defeating the whole reason I use the app.
slide down the notification shade, and turn of DND once its plugged in and/or connected to your vehicle.
not ideal, but simple fix.

Thank you I am going to give this a try.
I could of sworn there was a setting that you can adjust for DND for Android Auto?
This did Not happen in 8.1. Really annoying.

Not sure what the heck is going on by my pull down notification is ALWAYS dark no matter what I do. I even tired forcing the Device Theme to Light vs auto depending on wallpaper and the darn thing is always dark.
Any ideas??

Wow, what in the world is Google thinking? Why does changing messager to dark mode impacts the notification color? That's crazy. Is this a known bug?
Thank you buy the way, it was driving me nuts as to why it is happening.
