Home button no longer works, what is going on? - Nexus 7 (2013) Q&A

Hi everyone,
I accidentally rebooted my Nexus 7 kind of funny by holding down the power button. I was trying to take a screenshot. Instead, it rebooted.
Ever since then the home button hasn't worked. I tried wiping the dalvik and the cache. No luck there.
Has anyone had this problem? Does anyone have a fix?

no?

Maybe the default application for home is not set sny more. Try a second launcher?

DINC Safe Mode Problem

Hello. So I got into a problem this morning while updating Golauncher EX. I updated it and when I pressed home, I accidentally chose to have GoTo (a lockscreen application) the default app for that. Now my phone can't return to launcher at all.
When I reboot I just get a blank screen and can't do anything besides bring the notification bar down.
I know I can easily fix this by going into settings, but I can't get to that without launcher. So I tried to get into safe mode (boot holding vol down, track pad, and menu) and I can get there after the phone vibrates (it says safe mode in bottom corner), but before I can do anything the phone reboots. I don't really want to resort to a factory reset yet, so I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions.
Also I haven't rooted my phone yet.
Thanks for any help you can offer!
The only thing i can think of is press the search button, and see if that brings up the search screen. I would navigate my way to market or something, install adw, then hit home. The pop up for default should come up again, then you can make golauncher ex default?

Delete it from phone with computer. I think all the files pertaining to the app should be in sdcard/data and data/data...
Thanks for the tips guys. btw I tried using search, but nothing would pop up, but for some reason hitting menu would make a keyboard appear.
Anyways, something weird happened where when I tried booting into safe mode, my phone seemed to wipe all my settings and went into the normal launcher. It didn't delete all my apps, but made the majority of them strangely force close whenever I opened them.
In the end I just rooted my phone and everything is perfect now!
Good to hear.

[Q] Home button does not work!

I have looked under the settings for hours and have not found anything! Need help :/
The only way for me to get back to home is to press back a bunch of times, I can't hold the home button to pull up recent apps either.
I am new to android, or just phones in general and my friend flashed my phone with AOKP.
Any help is appreciated!
Alright guys, I was the one that flashed his phone, and he's new to forums so I'll address the problem he's having.
We live far apart so can't really fix his phone for I don't have an S3 myself. His home button was working as it should, home would exit, long press would bring up the multitasking etc.
Today randomly his phone wouldn't respond to the home button. The thing is, I told him to wipe dalivk, do a factory reset, etc. and hes able to use the home button in the recovery but not the ROM itself.
There's a huge probability that he has possibly changed the settings somewhere binding the home button to do absolutley nothing on keypress, but I am just unsure of his settings on his phone. Could anyone help out please? Thanks.
what rom?
Flash stock? See if it's working again?

what rom and launcher.
Op says its aokp.
Next thing id try is reflashing the rom.

with CM10, you can configure what the home button does, or you can assign "nothing" to it. aokp is basically cm10 with more options, just fiddle with the settings and find that option, it should say something like "hardware keys"

Home Button not functioning properly

So last night, I was in an app and hit the Home button, and the screen kind of 'flashed' but didn't exit the app. Tried it again, same thing. Only way I could get out of the app was to keep hitting the Back button. Powered off my phone, turned it back on, and same thing. Any idea what's going on? I've had the phone for a few months and never had any trouble. Haven't had any recent updates or anything. I am using GoLauncher EX, but I've been using that since day 1 so I don't think that's the source of the problem.
Please help!

No ONE...???
got an air can?? from a distance spray around the button (not sticking the straw in the opening around the button, but close)
Lint could have easily got in there and is causing some issues.
It is a hard button after all and not a soft key

maybe try clearing the data of your launcher under app management menu.
Its not the actual physical home button, its the function its responsible for. Like if I go to an app, and I wanna exit thru the home button, it doesnt do that anymore, it just blinks and stays on the app, or any screen for that matter. I have cleared, reinstalled and everything.
You should try clearing you cache in your custom recovery and if that dosent work try reflashing the rom you are on. Hope this helps.

[Q] home button issue

this may seem like an odd issue. but last night my phone's settings somehow reset (wallpaper, keyboard, etc). now my home button is acting goofy. and by goofy i mean the home button will "wake up" the phone. holding down home will bring me to application switching. but a simple tape of home while within an app no longer takes me to the home screen. thoughts? help!? i'm thoroughly confused. i wiped cache and dalvik memory. i reset app preferences. i'm almost to the point of reflashing a ROM.

keyboard disappearing while typing

Anyone else have the keyboard disappear when typing? This keeps happening to me like I'm clicking back or recently when I'm not. I thought I was going crazy.
I have had that happen a few times. If I type slowly, it doesn't happen. I think I'm hitting one of the softkeys by mistake.
If I hide the softkeys, it doesn't happen.
Have the same thing happen to me, was there a solution?
Solved!
For me, same issue occurred on my OnePlus 5t. I cleared the cache by powering off then holding down the volume down and power button for recovery mode. After clearing the cache, the issue was resolved!
