I want to ask does unlocking bootloader cause any harm to device ? I saw some comments about camera problem and also i want to know does unlocking affect having official updates ?
If you on a official ROM with a unlocked bootloader - you will get any updates. There is no problem with that.

i searched the xplay forum and general forum but i didn't quite find what i wanted. What i wannt to know is how to unloack and relock bootloader.
idk if am right but correct me if am wrong
i know sony does the unlock bootloader on their website. so i know how to get it unlocked
now if i unlock my bootloader, i know that it voids my warranty and something about certificates but if i unlock it and flash custom roms and kernels and stuff. if sony decides to bring out there ICS update at the end of march and i want the update i would have to relock bootloader and reflash a stock rom & and stock kernel (depending on what i flashed)
and if so does n e one know how to relock bootloader???
I'll make it short:
1. Since you have to provide your IMEI number on the sonymobile website, i guess that even if you relock your bootloader later, sony will know that you have already void your warranty and you will permanently lose your warranty. Is this correct?
2. Can "locked bootloader" roms be flashed on phone with unlock bootloader. I know it's a silly question but i didn't want to open a new thread for just one question
3. Any benefit of unlocking the bootloader over flashing roms with locked bootloader?
4. Is it worth playing with roms on this device at all, since jelly bean is just around the corner? I know that official firmware is always bad and that the custom ones are modified well. I'm fed up of the lag my phone has, every time i pull my notification bar...i'm on official firmware and i'm using build.prop tweaks but they're not helping much.
SONY Says unlocking Bootloader may void it's warranty.
Well see, this is how it works in my country. Upon unlocking bootloader i loose my warranty. But the warranty for any hardware damage is still valid here. Which means with a unlocked bootloader i will not get warranty if my phone gets bricked by any Custom ROM/MOD try out or Software related issue.
But let's say, the screen isn't working or the speaker isn't working, then i might get a replacement for this type of hardware damage. Only parts replacement.
But yes this may not same for all region. Or may be the SONY service center people here are little too kind
But yes, they can check the bootloader unlocking status easily, if i am not mistaken, cause one of the SONY Forum moderator told me so.
Lastly, Playing with the ROM actually Depends on you, some likes custom ROMS and some like Stock ROM.
But since the JB update is just doorstep ahead, so i would say, you wait for it. Do not unlock it now.

1. Yes they usually check but it depends on your country too. In my country I got my phone's screen replacement done within the warranty after unlocking my boot loader.
2. Yes you can flash any ROM for Xperia S.
3. Main advantage is that you can flash custom kernels ( even ROMs like Cm, slimbean etc.)
4. Absolutely. You can still enjoy official JB even after unlocking your boot loader.

Hey guys, I'm new to the Redmi forums, I've been on XDA since 2012 and have been using mainly Xperia devices.
So just had a few doubts regarding this phone(bought it last week)
I read about the procedure to unlock the bootloader and everything.
1. I know unlocking will void my warranty, but can i then relfash stock rom and relock bootloader to show that the bootloader was never unlocked? We could do that in Xperia.
Is it possible to do it now?
2. Will just rooting require the bootloader to be unlocked? And if yes would the warranty be void if I unlocked the bootloader and just root the phone without flashing custom ROMs?
Unlocking bootlader procedure doesn"t void you warranty. At least in Poland
Rooting requires unlocked bootloader. Im not sure about rooting, but you can always flash offcial miui build and its going to unroot your Redmi and relock you bootloader

1. As far as I know the warranty is not void. I have not seen any such warning. But please do check from your end.
2. Rooting will need unlocked bootloader if you are doing it via the recovery. Maybe one click root apps wont. I dunno of any one click root apps for RN5 Pro
Unlocking bootloader don't void warranty of xiaomi phones its confirmed
Changes in rom may void warranty like rooting
But u can again clean flash rom with mi flash restore to factory stage is possible
Ok so I was reading an article and now I'm confused. I see there are two ways to unlock a phone...the regular unlock command and an unlock critical command. From what I understand the unlock critical command is for updating the bootloader? When would I want to do this? I was on the Android P final beta and because official Pie release was delayed here in Canada I decided to just unlock and flash Pie manually. I did this and then relocked the bootloader. But is my bootloader outdated now? Confused. ?
If you keep the bootloader unlocked your bootloader will never go out of date, otherwise the bootloader will not be updated on subsequent stock ROM updates. I personally recommend unlocking the bootloader using both commands and keeping it unlocked. You'll have a minor annoyance in that you'll have a warning pop up prior to boot about the bootloader being unlocked, but I believe avoid a major annoyance in Factory Reset Protection being disabled with the bootloader unlock.
Ok. So just unlock using both commands? Do I just enter in right after the other? How does the bootloader get updated?
Also does leaving the bootloader unlocked stop Google Pay and some banking apps from working?
Enter both commands, one after the other. The bootloader, even if it has no updates, is included with every copy of the stock ROM you download from Google. It will also be included with any OTAs that come directly to the device. You'll have to discover for yourself whether Google Pay and your banking app are affected, because I simply do not know. I don't use my device for banking.
i was wondering if i unlocked the bootloader and installed a custom rom i`m not willing to change soon, can i lock the bootloader again while i have this rom?

Certainly you can if you are prepared for a bricked device later. I mean, it is not advisable to lock the bootloader if you have a custom ROM since any issues arise later, you will not be able to solve them. In addition, even if you manage to unlock the bootloader again in such a scenario, you will lose all your data including files, photos, videos etc.
If you properly sign the firmware, you don't even have to unlock the bootloader, see https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-3t/how-to/guide-custom-kernels-roms-recoveries-t3572525
