When using Assistant with my BT earpiece attached to the phone with media not connected what is listening to my voice my phone or my BT earpiece?
How do I remove the stock notifications and change them to something that I want? Yes, I can change notifications for apps but when I plug or unplug the phone those notifications are not my favorite.

I have no idea about the BT, however I would think it would be the phone listening for your voice commands. As far as you notifications, using your root browser, go to /system/media/audio/ui and use whatever sound you want for whatever notification. You will have to change your new sound file exactly to what your wanting to replace. So if you want to change your phone unlocking sound, you would rename your sound file to
Unlock.ogg :good:

By default, assistant should listen through your phone. You can however, set it to listen through the BT headset. Per that setting it is 'if available', no idea what that means however.
Assistant settings > phone > other voice settings
As to the stock UI sounds, they can only be changed if you have rooted your device.

So that's why I was thinking for the BT settings. When I move the phone closer to my face assistant does a better job job of hearing me. So I don't think it really is listening through Bluetooth??

My jbl hbs 910 work with Google voice commands then there are the new headphones with assistant built in like Bose have I can't think of any others but maybe if you get a big brands headset they should be updating the firmeware to have it work with assistant although jbl is only one I've had experience with using assistant

I used my phone for GPS for the first time and I love hearing Nav notifications through my handsfree set. What I couldn't figure out is how to keep using my handsfree set without music playing through it. Nothing would play through the AUX port of my car stereo unless I turned off my handsfree.
I want to be able to hear music through the car stereo and notifications / calls through the headset - is that possible?

I don't think it's possible. Correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think your phone manages both at the same time. You could have them go through the same one tough. That's what I personally do, both on bluetooth audio system (car).
How did you manage to get it to play on both? For me it seems like it has to be one or the other

Both on bluetooth? I simply have both running at the same time.
My issue was that it seemed like I can only do one or the other. I saw in the settings for my voyager legend that you can make calls through headset but have music still play through car stereo

Not sure I completely understood what you're trying to do, so this may not be what you're wanting.
But if you go to your Bluetooth pairings on the phone and then go to the settings for your Car Stereo Bluetooth pairing, there is an option for either Call Audio or Music Audio. You can de-select the Music Audio so that only Call Audio plays through Bluetooth to the Car Stereo.
All I want is to be able to still hear navigation notifications in my headset while still be able to hear music through car stereo. That doesn't seem possible. I either hear it....
1) All in my headset (phone calls, music and notifications) or car stereo
2) Phone calls in headset (and navigation notifications if I'm on the phone) with music and notifications in car stereo
But I want it to be phone calls plus all notifications in headset regardless if I'm using the phone and music in car stereo

I went ahead and did a little search. Android seems to do it on it's on so I'm not sure why you can't connect to both and hear what you want in both.
I personally don't connect to 2 devices at the same time but I do get/hear everything in my car audio system (navigation, music, calls, notifications) and that can all be at the same time. The music sound will just lower when navigation girl speaks and when a notification comes in.
Now I dunno if you searched for this but I did find a app that might help (can't try it myself as I only connect to one): Smart Bluetooth Widget Free. There's also a paid version.
And like the other guy mentioned, you can select in the bluetooth options what you want to be streamed through it.

I'm not sure how to have searched for what I'd like to accomplish for lack of "proper" wording?
But, I have the Jabar Free way with two phones. I'd like when my Galaxy Nexus connects that it would play a tone such as a"notification" sound for a text.
If I buy tasker, would I be able to set up a task that when Bluetooth successfully connects to my device, then prompt sound x to play over speaker to let me know it has connected without having to look at the phone and see?
Or is there a simpler way to get a sound alert to play for what I think would be called: Bluetooth Connection Audio Confirmation ?
Yes you can do this with tasker. You can set up a task to run on connection to a specific bluetooth connection and play any sound you like and also pick which sound stream to play it through (speaker, bluetooth audio, etc.) You can also set it to play a sound on disconnect if you wish.
I use tasker to auto launch car dock mode and pandora when connected to my car bluetooth system. Works pretty well.

Are there any guides? I used gasket once a long time ago, and the most up to date one looks different? I'm sure its on Google I just haven't had much luck! Thanks for the quick reply too!!

Why is there no way to change the audio path? When I'm navigating, I like to hear the voice from my phone. As long as my moto 360 is connected to my phone, the audio is routed to the watch which has no speaker so I hear nothing. This is kinda ridiculous to me that I can't change this like on other Bluetooth devices. I have to disconnect my watch to navigate bc of it.
Am I missing something or can this be fixed in a future update?
EDIT: Fixed! This issue has been fixed by someone. Maybe it was an update to Google maps? I used navigation yesterday and audio came through my phone as all as notifications on my watch. Very cool!

Yeah I do, I just prefer to hear the voice and how many lanes turn and all that additional information the voice gives. I can look at the phone and it will tell me but I just prefer the voice. I also found out it will still work if I connect to my car stereo and the audio will come out of the stereo while it does the directions on the watch, so that's my best work around at the moment
Had the same issue yesterday. It was a major disappointment to say the least. Totally disconnected it from the phone which makes the watch almost useless to me

Yeah me too in my gf's car but my car doesn't have Bluetooth so I have to completely disconnect from my watch if I want voice when navigating in my car

Ya, I use navigation all the time when I'm out of my normal areas of driving. Always comes through my car stereo via bluetooth.
To get the voice to come through on the phone make sure Car Mode is disabled. If it is enabled it will try and send audio through whatever bluetooth connection it has. ...I think
I don't have my watch yet, but try going to the bluetooth settings on the phone and select the watch. If you have a "Media audio" profile with a check mark, try unchecking that. That should reroute that audio to the phone.
Will know for sure Tuesday when I get my 360!

Hey guys, I dunno if someone important at moto or google saw this thread or its just complete coincidence but this issue appears to have been fixed! I used navigation yesterday and the voice came through on my phone as well as my watch buzzing me with the notifications as well! Very cool

Of course. With music streaming, the music would get quiet and the nav would be loud. I've used nav on my phone for ages.

I can't get OK Google to work via my bluetooth microphone.
I have the Google app open and it says "say OK Google".
It works 10/10 when I say it directly into my phone.
When I press the microphone button manually, it picks up 10/10 commands via my bluetooth headset.
Ok Google detection is ON for the Google App. (and it works via phone)
Hands-free -> For bluetooth devices = allowed
"Record audio through bluetooth headset if available" = ON
When I do the "OK google voice model" guide, where it asks you to say OK Google 3x, it doesn't listen to my headset at all. It picks up nothing.
As I said when I press the mic button manually it works 10/10, there's nothing wrong with the bluetooth set or connection.
Any ideas?

I don't think "OK Google" is intended to work from the microphone itself. A long press of my headset button brings up Google Now without saying "OK Google". I trained it for my voice on the phone, just in case I ever want to use it without the headset.

Yes the "OK google" is intended for the microphone... how else are you going to say it? The only thing is that android chooses to listen to the internal microphone, and then when you say OK google into your phone it starts checking for bluetooth devices and it switches listening to that for the actual command. At least, that's what's happening on my device.
Why wouldn't they make it so it listens to your bluetooth device in the first place? It's connected so you can assume you are using it (they apply the same principle for audio output).
I use a bluetooth headset on my helmet, and the buttons are already used for play/stop, and forward/back.
But that's not the problem, I can easily launch Google app with a tasker whenever I connect my bluetooth device.
I found a workaround though after trying about 10 apps, most don't work.
Smart Bluetooth Headset allows me to remap functions (not buttons, which never works for me) of my bluetooth device.
I've now set it to replace "redial function" with "Voice assistant" which basically opens Google app and starts listening. Great because I didn't like the redial function anyway.

I guess we have very different headsets. My Plantronics Voyager Legend uses one tap to answer or end a call, double tap to redial the last number, and long press to activate Google Now or whatever else you choose to program it to. It sounds like you have programmed a button to open Voice Assistant, which accomplishes the same thing as my long press.

Yeah, that's because it's not a bluetooth headset used primarily for talking, but more for playing music.
Still I don't see why android is using ONLY the internal mic even when you have a bluetooth A2DP device connected.

I'm guessing that having the microphone on all of the time would kill the headset battery pretty quick. When Chrome enabled Google Now on the desktop, I could never get my headset to trigger it either. The only way I could get it to work was to click on the microphone icon on the screen.

Well I guess it's a valid point, but in my case (I use it on my helmet) it's always playing music anyway, so it already has a constant connection to my phone.
For other people, it wouldn't be a problem either because it would only have the microphone on when the Google App is in the foreground. So if you don't need it it's not used at all.

I use the same headset and I experience issues with the long press-action. When I do so, the phone replies "wait", the screen says "Initialising", there's a slight static in my headset and then - nothing...
Latest firmware is installed and I have ticked the bluetooth recording-box in GoogleNow.
Any ideas?
Hi, for this bug you can use thé application BT gnow.
My problem is an other, Google now audio is routed through the a2dp channel and not the hsp headset channel
my OK GOOGLE stop working from time to time. I rarely use it now.
I have the same issue, i cant get the activation of the "ok google" hotword via a wired headset nor a bluetooth headset on a Pixel... any advice?

I'm clueless :silly: but I have a Moto G5 Plus that had this issue I fixed today and another android phone a few years back that had the same issue.
I'm posting this around in a few forums since there doesn't seem to be much info on this anywhere. Maybe it will help.
To fix the broken setting that causes Google search / voice to text apps to not work with Bluetooth Microphones in my phones, I did the following:
Note: This will erase your google data on the phone maybe including your linked credit card authorization from your bank in android pay (tap payment only, not Wallet.) which I seem to recall having to re-set it up with my bank since they are very secure with that, so make sure you are prepared for that possiblity. It won't delete your linked accounts or authenticator two factor auth. Just the core googly stuff and settings related to the local settings on the phone.
Go into settings > apps > "Google". Disable it to reset it back to the original version, then enable it again, it should auto update back to current version later. Still in the Google app, click on storage, then manage space > clear all data.
Go back to settings > apps > show system apps. Find Google Services Framework. Click storage, click clear data.
Your Bluetooth microphone should now start working again. You may just get away with deleting the data on the framework app, I usually do both since I don't want to mess around any longer than I have to.
That didn't worked for me, although in my headphones manual says to press bluetooth sync button once for Google Now/Siri. I have PHILIPS SHB3060BK/00 headset.

Just turn off the "Record audio through Bluetooth headset if available". It will just work fine.
Hello. Yes, I know I should upgrade. However, I'm an old fart and I absolutely love this phone. It's perfect for me and it feels wonderful to use.
I am on Android 10, latest security patches, completely stock. Pixel 2 XL.
I cannot figure out how to get my phone to automatically answer a call when I am connected to Bluetooth. I have Googled, I have searched this forum.
Can anyone help? Thanks.

I don't think those settings will do what he wants. I have a Bluetooth Plantronics headset and hearing aids that connect with Bluetooth. For both I have to tap a button on the device to answer. The Plantronics headset will answer if it is off my ear and I put it up to my ear, but that is a setting in the headset, not the phone.

I just got a chance to look, and unfortunately no, the setting isn't there. I connect to an FM transmitter in my car, and still need to reach over and slide to answer when someone calls. I just want it to automatically answer so I don't need to touch the phone. When I use my ear buds that would be nice as well.
