Hi guys,
I couldn't find anything about this (I did try searching before posting this thread, so I hope I am not repeating a common question!).... I wish to unpartition my sd card and just go back to a normal fat32 partition....
So far I have tired windows disk management and Rom Manager, which just allows you to ADD a ext partition with no luck!
Can anyone else guide me how to achieve this?
Regards!

System recover? clockworkmod using the fake flash method? because I don't see the Partition SD Card menu anywhere else and i've tried both!
I know its right in front of me somewhere, I just can't see it, D'oh!
use the one from rooting folder
Bah,
I ended up using GPart live cd to undo it!!
Thanks for the responses guys, hopefully this will help someone else who needs it!

That's fine, it's why I created the thread!
If you just want to partition you can use ROM Manager (but this requires root)
you need the recovery file (entitled 'pushfiles' or something) from the risk-free root package to partition/un-partition the card.
Else, you can use a GPart live CD, which makes it really easy!
Hope that helps buddy...

If you're using a2sd+ then you need to change your ext2 partition to ext3, Also, I don't believe that you need a swap partition anymore...
Try that!

lol, lets give the guy a break.... we all know it was a 256GB Flash card!
Anywhooo, I have another question, so I think i'll hijack my own thread!
Guys, whats the most efficient way to backup/restore and move apps between roms? I've ended up manually re-installing installed apps 2/3 times now, I was going between roms that did/didn't support a2sd. Also, should there be any consideration to any specific backup options available in the various tools?
Thanks in advance!
Hi, my phone got bricked using GPart live to turn my ext 2 into a 3 partition. Everything went fine using the program, turned off Usb storage, went into market and tried to download a program, when it started to install the screen when black.
Now I cant boot with sdcard in, I don't come past the white HTC screen
Without SDcard it starts loading the system but the loading is a never ending loop.
Tried to format SD with fakeflash, dosent help
Tried reflashing my rom with wipe and everything, dosent help
Any ideas?

I would say, firstly try to get your phone working by wiping it clean and re flashing the rom. Use a different memory card just to get up and running. Then you can concentrate on fixing you card..
Although that seems like a very strange issue, are you sure you formatted your card correctly with GPart? (eg, exactly 512 MB/1024MB?) I'm a n00b myself so I would also wait for some of the more experienced users to offer their input. lol

Solved it by using AM recovery, repair + new partition solved the problem! Gonna reflash 2.0 again since i messed up the wiping somehow and then keep this until the rooted 2.2 is out!
Installed adamg`s open desire rom and after installing cant seem to get the phone to boot, just stuck on htc screen. Tried to restore my nandroid backup but does the same thing after installation.
It does give an error after installation in the custom recovery, it reads

erroe mounting /sd-ext/!

Have a partition installed 512mb taht was working fine today?
If I did a factory reset would i lose my custom recover and backups?

double check your partitions, make sure you have FAT32 + EXT3 @512mb then flash the chosen rom again, this is your best chance.
go with my rom, linked through my signature, the update will wipe the Cache + dalvik cache but keep all of you personal data and apps.

How do i check the partitions? Cant boot so can`t see them that way and haven't got card reader or anything. Im sure its got something to do with partition. Does this seem like it is causing the problem?
Any help appreciated.
bump, need help
have you wiped everything before flash?
I wiped with rom manager after downloading rom. Not sure of all the custom recovery options as rom manager usually does it all for you. Not sure if i should wipe date, cache etc, will this wipe my backups? Tried removing sd card but wont boot, not even sure how I would get another custom rom on sd card so i could flash that. I have both defrost 2.4a and opendesire aswell as a nandroid backup on my sd card but can't get these to boot either
Must be something to do with the sd card partition. Everything I try I get the message
E:Can`t mount/dev/block/mmcblk0p2(file exists)
error mounting sd/ext/!
Don't know what this means but think its causing the problem.
perhaps a bad sector on the SD?
try backing up everything on the SD, format it again & try the roms one by one to see which possible causes the issue
U need to try an alternative recovery.
Try using unrevoked, and flash and different recovery.
Sounds like the fake flash recovery u got with rom manager Isn't clearing ur partitions.

in Windows XP Disk Management, right-click the existing partition,
and click delete, that will leave the whole card as unallocated space. Then
right-click on the unallocated space, and click new partition.
edit : or install http://www.sdcard.org/consumers/formatter/sdfv2000.zip
free SD partitioner
in disk management it only shows the size as 3.18gb, I made the partition through rom manager which I think formats it in linux which windows doesn't recognise.
Taking the Sd card out gets in onto the animation screen, so a little further, but still doesn't boot. Very frustrating. \\\\\any more help appreciated.
Flash a ROM that doesn't use Apps2SD.
can you link one for me pal, ripping my hair out here, lol. By the way how do you do full wipe in custom recovery ie data, cache, is that it?
edit. Don't matter. Sorted. Copied an earlier backup of sd card onto spare sd card and did a recovery. Still need to know how to remove the partition from other sd card using windows.
This was definitely the problem and won't be using rom manager to do another partition.
If someone does know how to remove partitions using rom manager from sd card via windows then would appreciate it if you would let me know...
Stock rooted ROM: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=694564
Full wipe can be done using the "wipe data/factory reset" option in ClockworkMod Recovery.
To get rid of the ext Partition get gparted or something like that. Normal Windows cant see ext partitions because its a Linux filesystem. You can also take a Linux live cd.
Can't you just take ROM Manager and partition your SD card again? Swap 0/Ext 0/FAT 32 All
It looks like something isnt ok with the partitions so i would recommend to delete all partitions and make them new i also had a problem once with my sd card but after deleting all partitions and repartition it everything was ok again.
hey guys i want to make with a freind a new rom on his desire and he has root the desire and then we go to recovery, wipe all data and try to install the new rom but then the error comes:

now we hope that someone can give us his backup data:

recovery.img
system.img
we need that to restore his system.
or are there any other methodes to run his system, we don't know why the sdext not worked....
we need help very fast, please help!!!!
thanks a lot
I have these backed up on my SD card & PC too. But I'm afraid it has some private stuff also backed up.
I reccomend you installing a stock rom again and root it (installing a stock rom unroots your phone).
Like in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=918939 Be sure you use the latest ROM and read the full thread!
Also why don't you try another rom, see if it works? ANd make sure you wipe all data (factory/cache dalvik)
how we should install that when we can go only into recovery mod, we can go to sd card but the link you give to us, there is only a rom with is a exe.
can you give us a deteiled introduction? we aren't so good in these things :S pleaase help.
edit2: we can't start the phone so we can't chose htc sync...

The tutorial and ROM you should use:

If you can't start the phone, then search the forum here for solution...
the problem is, we dont have android on the phone now, no datas nothing, we can pnly good to recovery mod...
we need to install a backup or something from recovery that we have a system on our phone....
so we should need help! ((((((((
edit:
an idea nagypapi :
maybe you can backup you data now, then wipe all your data and flash a completly new rom, then you can make a backup from the completly new rom and than you can give us the backup files bacause these data are without you personal information, thats the one chance ,,,please.....
Download leedroid noA2sd, boot in to recovery, mount the sd, copy the rom to the sd, unmount and flash the rom. You can use a other rom than leedroid if you want but for now just use it.

A possible solution here in post no.7:
http://forum.cyanogenmod.com/topic/6433-solved-messed-up-partitions-on-internal-storage/
Also I can do the thing you suggested to create the files , but since now I am not at home upload would take forever...
Also try first installing the NOA2SD LeeDroid rom.
+ What Rom You want to install? Does it need an ext 2/3/4 partition, maybe that's the cause, also make sure your SD is formatted to FAT32.
Yes I think its the fat, I try it home later.
The main problem was that we can't mount the SD could. Not mounted in the recovery ... I say it already at the top...

Yeah, you must make an ext partition on the FAT32 SD card, and it should work.
Can I make that with ubuntu?
Ok then I have two partitions on the sdcart (4gb).
On which partition should I have all my folders?
On which partition should I have my zip data (rom) ?
;D you make me hope
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
Your error is related to a missing ext partition, since the phone doesn't boot i assume you tried to install a sense HD rom. What it said a the top is mounting the ext partition failed, I'm talking about mounting the normal fat partition as mass storing to copy the rom onto the sd card. If that also does not work, take out the sd card put it in a card reader and copy the rom on to it, the put sd back and flash leedroid. This will give you a booting device.
If you want to make and use a ext partition make sure you first have the fat and then the ext3, all files should be on the fat partition and there is no need to do anything else to the ext partition.

I suggest using GParted for that or anything that works in Ubuntu.
If you have another Android device (i bet you have ) you can dowload ROM manager form the Market and use that to create partitions / format card (it is easier).
"Partitioning your SD Card ready for A2SD+
* Backup all data on you SD card (this will be wiped)
* The card should be formatted with your standard FAT32 partition 1st followed by an EXT2/3/4 partition
* Linux users use GParted or a similar software.
* For everyone else I would recommend using Rom Manager
* Once you have downloaded ROM manager from the market, open the app and click partition SD Card, Select your EXT size (512MB or 1024MB recommended) and set 0mb for swap
* Restore your data to your SD and the job is done."

Do you actually need the swap partition? Maybe you should just try to get link2sd running first.
And did you create your ext4 partition as a primary partition behind your fat32 partition? You could also try to use ext2 instead of ext4.
Problem
Ext4 is primary of course, ext2 not so quick as ext4, so what i shoul do?
So I have another one question, does Widfire s supported ext4, i use eoghan kernel for android 4, and custom rom by djoliver
Ok...

Ok... I had the same problem, I had a 32gb memory sd card so I thought 16gb for data and 16gb for music, BUT I folowed the tutorial and I found out the the mini partition tool box ruined my memory card... So I got a diffrentsd card, went into CWM recovery and If you go into the advance u will see something like partisioning. So if u go in that and select all u want and that should work... try to create 1gb or less... Since more than 1gb doesn't seen to be working well. After its done reboot and go to link2sd and it will see the partision so then u can select... ;D
Good Luck
James
P.S. Delete the curent 2nd partision before doing it, delete it with mini tool. If u want to see some magic flash data2sd.zip and u should see that the partision will be made as the internal memory and it will go there instead of linking ;D
Question
Thanks James I ll try it, but what the ext number created in recovery? EXT2? Or another?
Sd card wil formated?
Amm... I think ext2, but its better than nothing
P.S.: EXPLORE the recovery mode and you will find out more
Thanks
Thanks I do this
Can't you just use the Partition Wizard in ClockworkMod Recovery? Let's you choose your EXT size (upto 4GB) and a swap size (which i usually do 0M)...
Gl.
I also got the same problem with minitool partition wizard...ita useless in my case. So i tried partitoning with cwm which u cando by selecting partition sd card in advanced menu...it creates an ext2 partition. I suggest you to use cronmod's INT2EXT script as it seems far more better and easy than link2 sd!
Hit that "THANKS" button if i helped you...

After flashing Data2SD.zip, i got around 1.8GB as internal memory!! I have installed all the apps i need and things went fine till i restarted my WFS! After restarting all the apps installed on the ext2 partition were gone! All the widgets gone! Those missing apps seem to be unavailable. 5 mins after booting i got back the 1.8GB internal memory but the apps didn't get restored :crying: I can see them as list in Settings> Apps but not able to use them :crying: Any solution??? I'm using Sense3.5_v4.1 by idogx, m1ndh4x8r, Hintay and mstfkaratas, flashed Dust kernel.
i am currently having problems partitioning my SD card. I am sure that i have partitioned it correctly but not to sure how to get a particular thing working. here is what i have done so far,
HTC BUZZ
used CWM to wipe date and cache and dalvik cache
used CMW to partition my 8gig SD card (i created a 1gig partition and 64mb for swap size)
flashed my custom ROM
The reason i was doing this was because my internal memory was low and this was a way i found out to increase it , which it did, but in a thread it mentioned using LINK2SD to move apps to the partition, this is where i am having problems though, i can move them to the larger partition of the SD card but not to the 1gig partition that i created, i used the following thread to do these steps
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1655174
I also used a script called CROMMOD which i followed from here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1716124
everything seems to have worked well but like i said above i dont think that my apps are going to the INT2EXT but are going to the SD card itself.
I hope my explination is good and that someone can help me with this
Thanks in advance
Mark

I don't know much about it, i am pretty new to this all, would you be kind enough to enlighten me ?
I did what i explained above only for the reason to give me more internal memory, any advice or pointers that you could give me would be gratefully appreciated.

1) swap file will degrade your sdcard life. Means your data transfer of sdcard wiill become slow. But it will speed up your phone. I wouldn't recommend it.
2) connect your sdcard to comp and completely format it. Including the ext partition. Use a tool like mini partition tool etc.
3) after that, partition your sdcard again. This time, properly.
*Go to cwm recovery
*advanced > partition sdcard
if you have 8GB card, i recommend 256mb ext partition and remaining 'fat' storage.
*chose ext4
*choose 256 ( recommended )
*swap = 0
*reboot. Done
You can also format your sdcard via CWM but i'm not sure if it removes ext partition or not because i've not done that. Well you can try it and see if it works.
Once partitioned, install Link2sd from market.
Chose ext3
Reboot
Again open link2sd
*Choose internal memory
*Multi-select apps you want to move to ext partition
*CREATE LINK
DONE.
I perfer Link2sd over a script because it works on all roms and one can easily move few apps like Go SMs back to internal memory in no time. Also you'll love this app.
If u want to automatically move newly installed apps to ext partition then you have to check this in link2sd 'options'
I hope this was brief enough. If u have any problem or you got stuck any where, feel free to ask.

Thanks ever so much for the reply and advice. I will follow your steps now and let you know how i get on.
Just a few questions first though:
1. When i follow your steps i take it i will have to reflash the ROM?
2. I already have a CWM recovery nandroid back up, if i do the recovery will it recover the steps that i did before ( as in my swap file and script) come back ? obviously i dont want this if i am using your method.
Thanks again for the advice will get back to you soon,

Unfortunately this is not my problem, i am able to format my SD card fine with that tool you mentioned in your first reply (mini partition tool)
The problem for me occurred when using CWM to partition the card, that it didn't give me the option to select ext4 and then when i installed Link2SD and selected ext3 i was given a script error.
As i said thanks once again for trying to help me, just a shame we couldn't get it, i just reverted back to using my CROMMOD with int2ext script.

Ok, its good that int2ext script works.
