Redmi note 5 pro bricked after flashing due to anti-rollback. - Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro Questions & Answers

My Redmi Note 5 pro has been bricked due to downgrading from miui 10 to miui 9 ROM. Now my phone is not starting. I opened the backcover of my Redmi note 5 pro and tried to flash ROM through edl mode, but I was getting a pop asking for authorisation for flashing. I went to service center where they tried to flash ROM through their authentication ID but still the phone is not flashing. Finally the Mi service center told that I have to replace the motherboard. The good thing is that I didn't have to pay a single penny for new motherboard as they covered my phone in warranty. I want to know what exactly happened when we rollback ROMs in Xiaomi phones and why it gets completely dead.

Greetings..

Hello...
Sorry to read about your device.
But,
As a New? XDA-Member.. you need to take the time to either read thru the title of all the "Q & A" threads.. Or use the Search / Search Plus tools in the upper right corner in an effort to find out the imformation you need.. it's good practice to do so.
Honestly,
I don't see how you can miss all the chatter concerning the Anti-Rollback implementation executed Xiaomi throughout these threads.. thats why I suggest you research first... odds are your questions have already been Asked and Answered.
Good Luck... and Welcome..

My phone number- MOD EDIT: I removed your phone number. It's a bad idea to give away your phone number on a public forum with over 8 million members.
Did you flash original firmware? Has your build number changed?

Did you go back to the exact same firmware?
What is the buildnumber before and after, is it the same?
How did you go back to stock?
Because I was in the same position and tried flashing some dts.img etc. image files from some other variant and completely bricked the phone. Had to take it to service centre and replace motherboard. Only then they could flash stock rom.
Yes the build number have changed
I searched the whole internet but i cant find one so flashed some other like same firmware but as i told the features were missing. Can you tell how much they costed you to replace the motherboard...thanx for replying.
Thanqu
Please don't do that!

Oh my God! the world is round! I was in the exact same position yesterday as you are now! Only blunder I did was to flash some more img files and totally brick the phone. You still have hope as you asked for help before trying anything stupid!
You can directly go to service centre and get it flashed without any motherboard replacement. They should be able to power the phone up, that is all. Mine was totally dead.
By the way, mine was under warranty and there were not many technical people at the front desk of the service centre. So I did not have to lie and did not mention unlocked boot loader etc. Just told them I tried to flash a software update of different variant and that bricked the phone (which is true). So they changed the motherboard for free! didn't take a single penny.

Hard bricked device. MiFlash 'hello packet' error

I recently unlocked bootloader, so I installed Red Wolf Team Recovery. After that, I flashed MIUI 10 zip update via recovery and after restarting my phone, it got hard brick. I'm trying to flash 9.5.19 and 8.8.6 using Mi Flash but I get 'Can not receive hello packet' error and then 'timed out' error.
Drivers are installed. Tried with different ports but I get the same error. Also tried touching power on button but nothing changes.
Any way to solve it?
EDIT: Now I receive this error:
Only nop and sig tag can be recevied before authentication.
It seems that I need an authorized account for using MiFlash. Any alternative?
I don't have any type of Xiaomi Service Center in my country, only can contact to my reseller for guarantee but I don't know if its covered.
Search, read.. You have to hold power button for like 10s, not just touch it

Literally half of this forum is filled with topics about this exact issue. Read around. Looks like you have ARB brick.
Which miui was there before you installed twrp?

It's hard brick. It doesn't do nothing. Only is recognized by PC as Qualcoom 9008 but now it's asking for authentication in my account. Is there any way to authorize my account?

Mi authorized account is hard to get. check mi russian and english forums. sometimes they will open forum for collecting Mi account number for authorization. If you are in warranty, check service center and they will replace the motherboard.

It's covered by guarantee? I'm from Argentina and the guarantee that I have received is a mandatory one for six months.
Install app ver. 2018.5.28 and try again , asks for user and pass.
You can ask for authorization in Russian forum miui.
Good luck
I wonder why did you installed redwolf recovery to flash miui10. Don't you know, you can flash miui10 using mi recovery??

Agreed: normally you flash/update your device via miflash (or OTA). Then you can flash RedWolf (for root) and enable an option for getting MIUI OTA updates.
What I wanted to say is, it's interesting how you got the hardbrick: reversing from ARB v.4 to v.4 or vice versa (v.3 to v.3) shouldn't be a problem whatsoever. Even if your firmware is on version v.4 (use fastboot getvar anti for your version) you shouldn't have any problems (at least with custom roms).
I'm still wondering how you got the hardbrick. I red pretty much every post here, maybe I have overlooked something.

They never post what they did exactly all they post is their phone got bricked because of ARB and start bashing Xiaomi.
Thing is it's highly impossible to brick a device while switching from ARB 3 ROM to ARB 4 ROM and most of the people thinking as developers after watching some freaking useless YouTube video

It's called a mistake? and if it was any other phone then he could probably quite easily recover his phone in minutes. But no, the REASON why he is in this position is because of Xiaomi's stupid ass restrictions so yes. That's why we all bash Xiaomi because this bs they've done to our phones is they're fault. It's like trying to upgrade your cars radio, but you make a mistake so the car turns into a massive brick and you can't use it unless the manufacturer approves of it. But that could be weeks or never because the manufacturer is now poo'n all over its community that put them there in the first place
So, the summary is, if you followed a ROM update guide, which does not mention the issue, flashed the linked and wrong ROM version and bricked the phone, it is gone, unless a "service center" replaces the motherboard? That's beyond ridiculous, really.
And yeah, there are a million threads about the issue, and not a single coherent guide.

Redmi note 8 Pro Brick

fence problem we have with the redmi note 8 pro
but I wanted to ask if they had any solution? at least a fastboot rom
that sp flash tool recognizes it and the verification can be omitted
I come from the xiaomi redmi 4 and I never had a tube brick and I am really very disappointed apart I am going through the quarantine in my country and I cannot get out I know there are solutions remotely but I do not trust I would like to know if there is any tool apart from the sp flash tool
I have read people who have solved it but the problem that mine only turns on the LED
and I haven't loaded it for 5 days and I can't get it to turn on the screen like other people do
Can somebody help me
and people who see this publication do not try to modify the redmi note 8 pro, the best thing I advise you to do is to unlock the bootloader
:crying::crying::crying::crying::crying::crying:
for me it's took 7 days to switch on, so be patient...

Go to another service centre and say that it happened after a OTA update. You may have a chance if someone which has an authorized account will help you for free. But this is a low chance...

Strange, when I tried this method to flash my phone back to stock, I only had to login with my regular Mi Account when asked, also had logged in the MiFlash Pro app, had opened MiFlash tab from there too, and I could flash using SP Flash Tools provided in the link. I had to try a few times to make it worked staying logged in the mi account (kept the pop up windows on top of the screen). I had phone connected before it rebooted and flashing started straight away. Make sure you follow the guidelines as being given.
Anyway not more I can do to help if that does not work for you good luck!

Question Help please, Poco f3, black screen after failed rom install, no fastboot

Soo, I was installing eu rom via fastboot when accidentally close the terminal windows that was running the sh file (I was doing some other thing with homebrew, thought that was the one I was closing, yes I was careless) decided to relaunch the .sh file but it got stuck on waiting for the device, decided to try and restart my phone, only problem is that after exiting fastboot cant seem to get out of blackscreen, Im completely lost, any help is appreciated
That's not good. You now likely have to use EDL Mode to flash a ROM.
Problem is, Xiaomi locked the EDL Mode to Xiaomi Authorised Service Centers, who have an Authorized Account to initiate the Flash.
They did this to stop people from importing the Chinese Variants to EU/USA, flashing ROM and selling them for Cheap.
<Moderator Edit>: @cyanGalaxy, I'll let you know just as soon as I can about what I removed from this post and why.
I have experience with that because I've gone through it. <Moderator Edit>

You probably have to pay someone $35 on Telegram. They'll help you unbrick your phone. They'll do this by remote-controlling your PC.
I used this group https://t.me/miauthofficial_d
I had to do this once and it worked.
It may be possible for cheaper, maybe elsewhere ^^ I did it using the Telegram Group I linked above for ~24€ ($35).
I have experience with that because I've gone through it. If you want I can leave you my Discord if you need more help... cyanGalaxy#3161

Isn’t there any other way? I mean letting someone tunnel to my pc sounds fishy to say the least, isn’t there maybe a modified version of the program or something that I could use?
<Moderator Edit>
Edit: I just saw my previous reply got edited by a moderator. I think it's not allowed here to mention these kinds of services, but it's not an advertisement at all. I'm just saying what helped me when I hardbricked my phone. :S
I mean other than such a service, you could go to a Xiaomi Store and perhaps use Warranty-Claim?

Yes, it does sound hella sketchy but it is a real service.

Sadly, its a few weeks out of warranty and the closes Xiaomi store is about two hours from here, will try to go, but who knows if they will even consider repairing it

Ok, yeah that sucks. <Moderator Edit> I can explain the other choice in more detail, since I've gone a hardbrick and so know a bit about it.
But if the Xiaomi Store would do it, that's also good.
<Moderator Edit>
I don't know if flashing Custom ROMs invalidates Warranty-Claims. ^^ (i know yours is out of it already, but maybe they have mercy)
