Hello, I might need to upgrade the SD card on my G2.
I listen to a lot of songs and 8 GB just wont cut it for me. I have a rooted G2 running desire Z "virtuous" ROM.
I have a few questions:
1. Is this card compliant with G2: Transcend 16 GB microSDHC Class 6 ?
2. Any other better recommendations?
3. I have several important backups etc in my current SD card. What is the procedure to transfer all the data from the old SD card into the new one? (Do I just dump all the data from the old card as-is into the new card)
Most all SD/SDHC cards should be compatible up to 32GB. I have a 16gig class 6 card I used in my old phone and it works fine.
You can copy/paste/dump the files between cards, since SD storage doesn't exactly have a lot of hidden or system files. Or you can copy using a disk/partition tool like gparted in linux, disk utility in OSX, or various utilities for windows.
I had an issue with the bigger SD card in my first G2. It worked fine for a couple weeks then decided it wasn't there anymore.
When I got my replaced (got a new g2) I made sure the SD card was formatted and put it in on day 1.
My recommendation would be to Format the card, then put into the phone. Then drag the files you want on to it.
Another trick is if you want the phone to recognize certain files put them in a folder marked for their use. ie Music, Notifications, Ringtones and Alarms.
Thanks..
I will give this a shot..
I know I am digging up an old thread, but I was wondering what the outcome was for your upgrade. I am planning on putting a 32gb card in my G2, looking at the Kingston 32gb one on Amazon (Kingston 32 GB Class 4 SDHC Flash Memory Card SD4/32GB - can't post a link due to my noob status on forums). I just want to know if that card would work. It seems like it should.
When you format it, does that happen on the phone or do you format it on the PC?
Tried el-cheapo 32gb off ebay - no luck for me
I have tried 2 cheap 32gb off ebay (class 2) and both had issues. I decided to not waste any more time and waiting for a 16gb class 6 (which cost about the same as the class 2 32gb) to see how that goes.
Hmmm....I wonder if the Class 4 would fare any better Anyone out there tried a class 4?
My current SD card is a Class 4 and I've had no issues.
I used a 16 GB Kingston Class 4 that I got from Dell before, but it freaking stopped working out of nowhere, so I'm back to a Sandisk 8GB Class 4, which is working well.
i have a sandisk 16gb class 6. works like a charm.. never had any issues with it.
i am using a 32gb class 4 in my desire z and its working grate.
for the guy that got cheap 32gb sdcards are you sure you wasnt scammed and got a 2-8 GB card that said it was 32gb as these can over write files (corrupt them) with out your knowledge or just refuse to work ones past 2/4/8 GB
The cards actually said 32gb on them. One overheated the instant I used it and melted the sd card holder it came with. Sent it back waiting to get the refund, the other one worked for like a week then died. At first I started to think it was me until I found this thread.

your screenshot is showing your internal memory test. If you want to test external memory then you have to pick /sdcard/external_sd instead.
To respond to OP: I got mine from Amazon, cost me 54 EUR for SanDisk UHS class1, class 10, XC I 64gb. 32gb Sammy MicroSD HC class 10 is performing a bit better for me (just a slight bit) but lacks the space, and SanDisk one is performing as a beauty here.
ps: if in need of my screens for test on Sandisk, let me know.
Is it worth getting a 64gb card for sg2?
I ask as I've seen many reviews tgat say data can be wiped as it's not suitable.
I'm in the market for a card though can't decide if 64gb would be overkill, but at same time would negate deleting old files vids etc I may need later...
Sandisk seems the way to go, any thoughts?

Depends on your need for storage space. I had 12Gb of music on 32GB one and photos and vids just zeroed it, let alone apps/games on it. I have no problem with 64GB now. I guess, it's each to his own. And if it is going to be self_wiped, then it will be my loss there, but I don't see any problem at this time, nor my microsd performs bad or has glitches.
Having SanDisk only for a month now, I can say I'm pleased how it's performing in terms of speed and stability. I can't predict what comes next but I never had any microsd breaking on me, or any problems in the past (had from 2 t o64GB microsd from SanDisk, Samsung etc... over 4 years time span).
Hope this helps a bit.

Owner of SGS2 here (visible in my sig.): If you pick /sdcard on SGS2 it's measuring internal storage (16GB one), if you change it to /sdcard/external_sd, then it's testing external microsd card. Dunno what SGS3 does and what not, it's on ICS as a base...
Got an Sandisk Micro SDXC with 64 GB and its working in my HTC HD2 and my Galaxy S2, too. But I got it formatted with FAT32 don`t know if Ex-Fat is working. Price was 58 Euro in Germany 1/4 year ago. Im on German 4.0.4 Stock Rom without Root.

I just bought a sandisk 64gb sdxc. Can't wait for it to be delivered!!! $60 AUD on Shoppingsquare, which i think is good value
And now for my 2cents worth:
Is 64gb an overkill?
Yes, but that's what I said about my 16gb card 2 years ago, and now I have no space.
Besides, i envisage apps, music, videos to get bigger as it gets better in quality.
e.g. with 64gb i can afford to have lossless audio.
Also, I have now in my room, 1gb, 2gb, 4gb, 8gb micro sd card.
I probably would have spent less money if I upgrade to a much higher capacity each time.
not to mention they are now just sitting there being wasted.
Usb adapters, lik SanDisk one, FTW / then you have a "switchable" USB key...
I don't have any wasted microSDs at all, but still has 2 x 4gb, 1 x 8 gb and 1 x 16gb micros's...
Gonna put in an order for one of these. Thanks for advice!
nice!

Hi,
Storage media of any type does not 'self-zero' itself. When it is full it stops you from writing data. Think about it: Would Sandisk still be in business if it did?
A likely reason your Sd card are self-zero'ing is because you bought a counterfeit card from a shop like Amazon or Ebay.
This is very common.
What happens? The fraudster buys cheaper 4 Gb SD Cards. He then modified the SD card firmware so that it reports to the operating system that the card is actually 32Gb. The O/S formats the card (typically a quick format by writing a few blocks at the start of the card) and you start coping the data across. Regretfully when you cross the 4 Gb limit of the card you end up writing no where. Seems that the data is simply zeroed or another error appears.
There are numerous of reports about this on Amazon.
Solution:
Don't buy SD cards from Ebay.
If you buy from Amazon then ensure that you buy from Amazon and not the Amazon MarketPlace.
Finally: If it is too cheap, then there may well be something amiss ;P
Also, I have now in my room, 1gb, 2gb, 4gb, 8gb micro sd card.
I probably would have spent less money if I upgrade to a much higher capacity each time.

Problem
i buy de sandisk 64gb and when i tranfer files from mi pc to the sd card i got slow tranfer speeds (around 5-6 mb/s). The sd is in fat32 that possibily affects the perfomance?, when i do sd speed test from the play store i got 13mb/s write and 30mb/s read.
Also i cant achive mounting correctly on ntfs with the app from the marquet ntfs mounter which is in xda
someone pass something like this?

64Gb SanDisk works fine on mine, though I'm not on Cmiui, I'm on Sensation 4.1 flavor now, it's ICS 4.04 based (was on GB 2.3.6 before), 32GB Samsung one works flawlesly on my kid's SGS2 and any other older microSd we have works. Other then that, all my old microSd's are workign OK with adapters and such
No waste for me
Got my 64gb and it worked fine with cmiui and now with resurrection remix ! Thanks for your help and reply.

I have a Sandisk 64Gb MicroSDHC card. I've been using it for sometime on Android and. I've used Android to format it but never to partition it. I've also used Android to wipe data on the card. I've formatted it varous times again on Ubuntu.
The card was working fine but today, I decided to format and clear all the data on it. Much to my dismay, after when plugging in the card and formatting it, Windows read it to have only 27.8 GB space even though it was empty. Ubuntu also showed 27.48 GB only.
I've not much problems with the card on Android and Ubuntu but today, this serious problem occured. Just how does a 64GB card reduce to 27.48GB? I've formatted the card to FAT32 and EXT4 multiple times to no avail with GParted.
Previously, some time ago, I've formatted the card to FAT32 and because the computer, I forgot if it was Windows or Ubuntu and because the computer read it as having 30GB space, named the card 32GB Volume or something like that (The name has long since changed to one of my choosing). However, Ubuntu still read the card as having 64GB of space and filling it up with more than 30GB worked just fine.
What happened? How do I resolve this? I need the card to work on both Ubuntu and Android.
This is my card. http://www.amazon.com/dp/B005V7WIA2 Based on reviews alone, it seems to be very good quality. I've used the card on Ubuntu, and Motorola Defy (Android), and the Motorola Xoom (Also Android). Both Android and Ubuntu have worked with the card just fine except for one thing Occasionally, when copying files to or from the card, I get an error message. Sorry but I don't recall what the message said.
Also, sorry for this mess of a post. I'll try to reword it once I have the time or overcome my exaggerated grief for this unexpected tragedy.

Use h2testw and check if it might be fake (i.e. actually 32 GB, but re-programmed and re-labeled to say 64 GB).
I got delivery of a new 32 GB thumb drive an hour back and am running the test as I type this. Makes sense to test out all new flash memory purchases as soon as you get them. Lots of fakes going around.
If at all yours turns out to be fake, then you're lucky you got a 32 GB, and not a 2 GB! Hope yours is not such a case!

I bought it from Amazon not Amazon Used or Amazon Marketplace. Oh well, I'll still check it out with that program you suggested.
uhm.. interesting... now i understand...
I thought I would start a thread on which Micro SD cards were recommended vs. those that fail early or are simply not compatible. I saw a thread earlier that appeared to show that some cards (and sizes) were better than others.
I can report that the Samsung 64GB card (says Class 10, HC, 24MB Read, 7MB Write) does NOT work in this tablet. I was able to use it just fine in my Note 2, and a laptop. However, the card doesn't work properly in my 2014 Note 10.1. An older Pansonic 16GB MicroSD card worked just fine however. I've tried formatting it in other machines, and it's still a bust. Currently, these cards are selling like wildfire on Ebay for $30.
So, what DOES work for a 64GB card? Any help is appreciated by myself and I'm sure a lot of others reading this forum.
Thanks in advance.
I have got a SanDisk 64GB card in mine. Also got the same type in My Note 3.
The SD card issue seems a bit odd, both of my cards were also fine in my older Note 10.1 and the Note 2. I've never had a problem with either of them
Samsung 64GB works just fine.
I have a 64GB Samsung MicroSD and it works just fine, haven't had to do anything to it, worked right out of the box.
Its a Samsung 64GB Class 10, UHS-1, Grade 1, 70MB/s MicroSDXC Pro Memory Card
I always buy memory cards directly from Amazon because there are a lot of fakes out there, so I know for sure this is a genuine product.

i've tested my 64GB sandisk on my gn8 for a week now with no issues at all. one day after being put back in the gn10.1 2014 and it's acting up again. files, fail to delete, wrong size reported, inaccessable, etc. the 32GB sandisk works fine. both are uhs-1 formated exfat. take it out without reformatting and it works fine on my gn8 and pc. put it back on the gn10.1 and it won't mount without a reboot.

Hey guys, thanks for the info. After some research I discovered that this was indeed a fake card I ordered from Ebay. Looks like this is a common problem as the packaging is *almost* perfect and you really can't tell the difference without some serious research. Luckily, the seller refunded the full amount back to me. Based on your feedback here I've ordered a SanDisk Ultra from Amazon.
Thanks for the help and & Happy Thanksgiving!

A really good way to check them is to simply try to fill it up. Only 4G of data will be saved and readable, whereas the other 60GB is corrupt.

It's sad that a lot of people get duped into buying fakes. But sites like ebay don't/can't do anything about it.
Memory cards/Usbs should only be bought from reputable sellers only (Amazon, Currys, Play.com etc) as there are wayyyy too many fakes out there.
I'm currently using a Transcend 64GB SDXC UH-1 Class 10 card which was formatted using the tablet.
It works fine except for one annoying problem. When transferring large, singe or multiple files, say 1.5GB+ HD movie or a huge amount of photos, from internal to external storage, the device would freeze. After it starts up again i notice that i can no longer access my SD card even though the device says it's still mounted. The only way i can fix this is by removing and reinserting the card or rebooting the device. Although there's no problem transferring files from a computer straight to the SD card.
Anybody encountered a problem like this? Is there anyway to fix it?

Yes, I'm having the same issue. Except the SD card will randomly lose the files even though it still shows the card is still mounted. Just recently I was watching a movie from the sd card and this happened.
I am using a SanDisk that was being used in my note 2 for the past year (never had problems with it before).
This is especially frustrating when trying to sync files with Plex.
Anyone have any ides?

Same for me
I know I'll sound like a noob, but my 32gb Samsung micro sd card just doesn't seem to work on galaxy note 10.1 2014, yet it worked perfectly fine on my previous note. Would i have to format the card on my computer? A little bit annoying since I don't have a reader for it.
My Sandisk does not work
I have a SanDisk Ultra 64 GB microSDXC Class 10 UHS-1 Memory Card 30MB/s SDSDQUA-064G-U46A that has a lot of problems working in my GN 10.1-14. It has worked fine for a year in the old Note 10.1. The New Note would not even format it. Formatted it in my Galaxy S4, and it kind of works. Often it simply reports no files, although it will report in Settings the correct size and space available. Sometimes I have to reboot several times for the card to work. then sometimes I will try to open a file and get an I/O error. Then sometimes random reboots, especially if I try to unmount it.
I use a Samsung Pro 64GB microSDXC (UHS-1) Class 10 card (MB-MGCGB/AM) reformatted to FAT32. Works great. I've been using the same type card on my LG Optimus G for almost 8 months 100% problem free (also formatted to FAT32). I did have issues with a SanDisk Ultra 32GB in that same phone that used to dismount itself all the time and I know others that have had issues with SanDisk cards in GoPros as well.
ok, so which one of these sandisk ultra microsd cards will work in the 10.1 2014 edition, and what is the difference between them?

I just installed a new 128gb microsd (sandisk ultra), and for some reason it keeps unmounting then remounting a few seconds later. I tried formatting it but theres no option in the settings. Is there any way to fix this? Is it only an issue with cards > 64 gb?
I face the same problem with 64gb SDxc sundisk card!!!!!
Any help....... please
I had 64gb microsd fitted last few months, a Sandisk card. No problems at all. Recently fitted a Sandisk 128gb card from Amazon.
Had constant unmounting problem, reformatted to fat32, and still unmounting virtually every hour. Draining battery fast as well.
So, fitted 64gb Sandisk again, problem solved, it doesnt like 128gb card. 128card now in a Win10 tablet and working fine !
Although ASUS only qualifies 64GB MicroSD as max, you should be able to use up to 128GB as long as it is formatted as FAT32. Some users had their's work fine with this size.
Zenfone 2 supports microSD, microSDHC, and microSDXC, with speed class up to Class 10
Sincerely
ASUS_USA
Thanks for reply Asus_USA. It could be a compatibility issue, the card I tried was a Sandisk Ultra SDXC class10 (newest version) supplied by Amazon.
Has anyone else had any success with this microsd in the Zenfone 2, I have the 32gb, 4gb ram version.
I have a similar issue. Read the forums and it is obvious many asus ZenFone owners are experiencing this problem. Can't asus just admit the problem and fix it and announce the fix? Or is it a bigger issue that asus will not publicly admit to?
I thought I would chime in as I too am having the same issue with my phone. I put an sandisk 128gb sdxc card in my phone when I purchased the phone it worked fine until New Years Day when I got an OTA. Since that OTA, the 128gb card will keep mounting and un mounting itself. I put an 64gb card in and for a whole day, did not unmount once. Called amazon to replace the card thinking it was the card, amazon gladly replaced the card, inserted the card and it is still unmounting-remounting. Like I said before it worked for 1 month straight with no issues in Dec. before the OTA, but after the OTA, its intermittently unmounting-mounting. Thought Id chime in since ASUS was responding and noticing others having the same issue. Obviously its a software issue with ASUS.
There are already so many issues regarding to sandisk sd card on Zenfone, I used to have the same problem, then I replaced my sandisk with samsung, problem solved.

Thanks for your help! I kind of figured it was the sandisk card because I put a little 64GB sandisk card in and the phone wont even recognize that card at all. I put a sony 64GB in and it held perfectly for 1 day, no unmounts. Off to Amazon to purchase a Sony 128GB!

i have 16 gb and facing the same problem. Maybe the cause of this problem is the firmware it self. try to update to the latest firmware
Have you tried formatting it to fat32 and remounting it?
From what I've tested, exfat has given me issues. But I'm on a custom ROM (CM 12.1 based), so YMMV.
If you're rooted you can try Aparted on the Play Store and not bother with the PC route. Just make sure you know what you're doing!

That latest update definetly caused issues with SD cards not over 64Gb but with specific manufacturers. Of course ASUS will not assist in this nor claim responsibility as this was in improvement update. Even though it was quite large for improvements. I would like to see what they say as even some 64GBs cards are not working either and they approve all cards upto 64GBs. Unfortunatley, your going to have to switch card manufacturers to get your card to work. I put a Sony card in and it works fine now. I could'nt get a 64GB sandisk to even recognize let alone the 128GB mounting/unmounting. Good Luck!
Having the same problem with 128 SanDisk (also class 10).
Looks like I'll have to buy a new card - am I better off with 64 GB or changing companies?
Yes.. it's a know problem, without a concrete solution... also me I purchased first.. read after... so I sold and I bought a kingston 128gb and since then, it works flawlessly (except it's 3gb less, but I seriously actually don't mind )

I haven't tried the 200gb as I use that in my tablet but it is the ONLY Sandisk I have... All other cards are Samsung or the 128gb Lexmark. I have these as Sandisk had problems in other phones too... Never had a problem, ever, after changing away from Sandisk...
Sorry, should've added I'm on 178 firmware - the latest...

Thanks for the info, ASUS.
Currently I use KINGSTON 32GB SDHC UHS-I U3 with 90MB/s read and 80MB/s write. Tests in phone showed 110MB/s read and 63MB/s write speads with A1 SD Bench program. At first the were some problems like freezes but then i formatted it with ExFAT file system and all became normal.
