Any LCD / digitizer assembly replacement suggestions? - Google Pixel 2 XL Questions & Answers

Broke my screen and damaged to lcd. Will power on but got a bunch of lines / colors so pretty much unusable at this point. Was looking online to find an OEM replacement digitizer assembly. Anyone been down this path and can recommend a place to buy? I've replaced screens / digitizer etc before so should be good as far as that goes. Thanks.

I guess the question is whether you found one or not. I'm guessing you didn't, and at this point in time that's no surprise, not when the oldest devices are less than a year old and still within the manufacturer's warranty period. You're probably going to have to contact Google and look into repair options that way, since the supply of OEM parts is likely tied up with them so they can repair damaged devices.

if you are located in the US, UbreakIfix uses original google supplied parts and replace all seals for your for $220. Big pricey but if you want waterproofing still, it's a sure way. If you want to DYI, you can always get parts from eBay and if it sucks, file a claim through paypal or ebay.

LCD and Glass replacement from HTC - any idea how much for HTC to do it?

Well, getting my One X screen replaced by a local company didn't go very well. Ended up with one of the cheapo ones where the digitizer is not bonded to the LCD (at all), so you get an "inverse bubble" in the middle of the screen if you press on it (to clean it for example). Now it's sticking and stops the touchscreen working! Clearly I will get a refund, but now I need alternatives. Tried a few other repair companies, but none will say if they use a proper machine-bonding method to join the LCD and digitizer.
Have any of you sent your One X off to HTC for a screen replacement? They refuse to give any kind of quote over the phone - just that if I have it picked up and looked at, and I then decide the repair cost is too high, they charge £30.00 to return the phone.
Alternatively, do any of you know a supplier (that ships worldwide), that has the genuine bonded digitizer+LCD screen? ebay is full of the cheap ones that are separate.

I'm pretty sure HTC charge around £170 for a new display, although they may charge more given it has already been repaired poorly. As far as I know they get the displays already bonded as one unit.
To be honest, you might have been better off selling it on Ebay for spares and purchasing another brand new phone, there is one on Ebay with a completely smashed screen at almost £200.00 with 12 bids and still time to go, so they are in demand even when damaged.

[Q] Broken Digitizer

It was a slow but painful death my phone had, but I wish to revive it. The problem is finding the digitizer to replace the broken one and the process of doing so.
Is there a place I can find cheap digitizers?
You can find them all over the place online. Haven't seen a cheap one though. I afraid your probably not gonna find one under $130 or so. (I think that's how much I saw them going for, I may be a little off though).
Search Google and you tube for s3 disassembly and repair for how to's.

If I can make a suggestion, I actually work in a phone repair shop and these are very common repairs we do. You'd be much better off getting an oem oled and digi assembly. Its much easier to repair than separating the digitizer from the oled and then reapplying a new digi over the old oled. It won't be cheap but its safer.
Best of luck

Why is LCD Screen and Digitizer Replacement Parts Necessary for Repairing Smartphone

With the development of high end smartphones over recent years, the mobile phone technology has made huge improvement. However such progress has also come with some drawbacks. One of the drawbacks is the cost of mobile phone repairs. Thanks to the introduction of touch screen technology, the cost of replacing a scratched or broken screen is now more expensive than ever. The cost of repairing a cracked or scratched phone will not be contained in the warranty, therefore users can get the repair done by themselves to save some fee. Users can buy LCD Screen and Digitizer Replacement Parts (HEX Electronics Technology Co. Ltd) for DIY repairs. The following is a brief introduction of the benefits of purchasing LCD screen and digitizer replacement parts to repair a smartphone.
Cost
The overwhelming advantage of purchasing LCD screen and digitizer replacement parts to repair a smartphone is definitely the cost. The spare parts will cost very little, you just need some time, patience and a bit of knowledge to make smartphones as well as before without breaking the bank. Furthermore, if you are not careful enough, it is likely that your mobile is going to be damaged again. However, by this means, there is no need to worry about treating the phone differently; just make sure the spare parts are at hand.
Availability
When a screen is damaged it is highly likely that most of the functionality of the phone has lost. And it is incredibly frustrating, especially if repair shops are closed or it is simply not the right time to get to the relevant location during working hours. However a DIY repair can take less than an hour so that the phone is back up and running very soon.
Quality
When taking a phone to a repair shop, it is never certain what type of replacement part will be used unless it is specifically guaranteed. And sometimes, the quality of the spare part is not on offer. However by choosing an LCD screen and digitizer personally and repairing it at home, it is to be more certain about the quality of the spare parts.

Source for OEM screen assembly?

I dropped my P600 and broke the digitizer. I read here that it was nearly impossible to replace just the glass, so I bought a replacement screen assembly from etradesupply, where I have had good experiences in the past. However, the quality of the screen is night and day from the original. The original screen was one of the clearest and sharpest I've ever seen. The replacement is muddy and has persistent bright spots throughout. I thought I could live with it, but I'm having a hard as I remember how great the original was.
So far, I can't find anyone who sells an original Pentile screen made by Samsung. Even the ones that claim to OEM are really just OEM-compatible. Anyone have any ideas? My other thought is to look for a broken Note 10.1 and transplant the screen, but most of the broken ones have broken screens!
Any help is appreciated!

The screen is the most expensive item and since it's an old device, I would recommend to buy another used one instead. You could try to sell or use the old one for parts. It will cost you more if you tried to replace just the screen, not mention all the time, labor and headache...
Samsung will install new oem screen for $223 (including shipping). Cheapest oem screen I found was $175. Worth the extra $$ to have someone else install it and get a 90 day warranty, just call the Samsung warranty #. They will arrange the non-warranty repair. I received mine back from Samsung four days after sending it.

Not good, I'm pretty sure the tablet has a clear optic adhesive under the digitizer glass and lcd so if you remove the glass the glue will be remove too and you will be left with a display that looks like it has a big air bubble under the screen...(someone correct me if I'm wrong)
see the thread here (for the 12.2 model but I'm pretty sure it's the same for the 8.4)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...p/replace-cracked-glass-tab-pro-12-2-t3251203
so you will most likely have to replace the digitizer glass+ lcd in one unit
for the full assembly you might be able to find these on ebay or aliexpress (china- might be official or knockoffs)

look for ones that include the LCD + Digitizer as one (usually around $100-$170) - also make sure the store has a good return policy and good feedback (maybe even good feedback for the item aswell), it is very hard to return to china so it's best to make sure before purchasing.

this place sells all the parts but you might need to email them to get specific part numbers - and well it's probably expensive
last but not least send it to Samsung and have them fix it, they will usually just swap out the lcd + digitizer with a new one.

Thank you. I guess its too expensive to make a screen replacement for the tab. Not really worth it to fix it for $200. Rather than buy a new tab. Hopefully i can find somwhere else where they charged not that much. Thanks again.

I would check around with local repair shops (ones that specialize in tablet and phone repairs- since they should be very familiar with the oca film), maybe if you can supply them with a replacement digitizer, they can do the rest of the repair for cheaper.
you can check youtube for the oca film process (type oca film or LOCA screen) and a bunch of videos will come up.

It's crazy, this tablet costs more now used than what I bought it new for.
I too have a broken digitizer... And my screen has been going bad.. So unless you live near a samsung service center, that option is out. I keep seeing people suggest the LCD + digitizer replacement, but there is not one guide on how to actually do it.
The only thing I could find was some German guy on YouTube for a digitizer (not a whole LCD) replacement. How do you go about doing the replacement? The generic answer has been look at iFixIt or YouTube, but there isn't anything for this model...

I broke my digitizer the same week I got mine. I found only one place online to buy one. Google it, it's from China. It was about $160.00ish.. I followed the tutorial for galaxy tab s on YouTube. It was very easy.
