I bought one, so i can confirm it doesn't support usb 3.

How can you tell? I have an a5 and guessing it would be the same. But I would like to check.

I plugged it on a usb3 port and tested speeds.
And while plugging it on a usb 2 port, Windows doesn't say that it can go faster on a usb 3 port.
So i guess it's usb 2 only.

Ok, that makes sense. I've always had mine in a usb 3 port in hopes of getting high speeds but I haven't moved many big files so I can't tell.

USB Host OTG Cable Adapter

Got one of these yesterday, quick delivery and does what it says on the tin: link
i have this and is working fine also. It's working even with an optical mouse...cool!
I had a bit of a hard time finding one in the US. I just ordered a micro usb cable and a female to female connector. I think it was under $2(US) total.
has anyone tried connecting external 500 gig hard drive to the galaxy s 2?

I have the adapter cable but does not work for GS2 but on the HTC HD2 its work.
Why does not work, does not show me any sign that the cable connected. Does it have to be some special cable?

I have, it doesn't work unless you have a external power supply for the hard drive. the phone can't supply enough power to it.

Actually, thanks god Sony didn't use proprietary charging connector like Apple did. Since they like to have their own formats.

O hate micro usb because no matter how careful I am with the cable I always tend to break it. I why oh why can't phone manufacturers use the more durable mini usb?!?!

Have you every did a proper controlled test to find out? The proprietary cable just make it harder to find and is made of a lousier quality material than what my Xplay came with. Have a couple of these usb cables at home and it exposes the insides easily.

Charge and connect USB controller

So ICS supports USB gamepads/mice/keyboards which is awesome. The only problem is that the Galaxy Nexus only has one available USB port.
How can I connect a USB device to the gnex and charge it simultaneously?
Powered USB hub.
I see how that could work, however I want as little bulk as possible, and a USB hub would add a lot of clutter.
That got me thinking though.
Would there be any problem with charging and playing using this diagram?

It isn't going to work, since the usb port on a nexus only can do one thing at a time: charging/being a slave (transferring files from a pc) or act as a host (for a keyboard/mouse/gamecontroller). This will not work together until a kernel dev finds/creates a workaround.

Usb OTG supports accessory/charge mode, but the cable has to have the correct id for the usb chip to allow it. I don't think any cables have this enabled as of yet.

This cable won't suffice?
http://www.amazon.com/T-Flash-Adapt..._1_1?s=wireless&ie=UTF8&qid=1337812370&sr=1-1
If not, what has to be done to enable this?
Also, does this mean the powered USB hub won't work either?

I have a feeling that even if charging works (and I think it should) it will only charge at 500mA as I doubt OTG will work properly if you enable Fast USB charge. At the very least your battery won't die out quickly I guess, depending on the game's requirements hardware wise.
I'll try it out tonight if I can find my damn OTG cable.
Confirmation: Does not work.
Found my cable, and connected the phone to a powered usb hub. It actually would not charge OR read a thumb drive with stick mount. Both worked seperately, but the OTG is not a multitasker. Sorry.

have you had any experiences with the other adaptor? if so, how was it?
You can see the port to put your charger into on the picture. Its on the main MHL part parallel to the part that plugs into the phone.

MsElise,
1. The Micro USB "PLUG" to plug into your Galaxy S3/S4/Note2.
2. MHL 2.0 enabled 5V 0.9A current so it does require additional charger to plug in.
3. The other Micro USB "PORT" can use for charging your galaxy devices.

I confirm. Qualcomm QC 3.0 works with A50. Probably QC 2.0 charger will also work - but have not checked
Digging further: Samsung Fast Charge and Huawei Supercharge are based upon QC 2.0 so are compatible with standard QC 3.0 for shure
This is good news as we are not stuck in Samsung expensive accessories.
How much time is need for fully charged ?

Is this aukey?? I have one, but im scared to try on my a50
I can confirm that I get fat charging with my A50 using my Huawei fast charger from my old Honor 8
Am not able to charge A50 with my 40w Huawei Supecharge that I received with Mate 20X.
The primary reason for going for A50 for my spouse was USB- C and I thought both our phones will work with single charger but doesnt seem to.
PS: Suprisingly, able to charge with my laptop 65W PD Charger
Samsung a50 charging tech is based on qualcom 2.0 technology. So even if u use a qc 3.0 charger it will do the fast charging. But the speed will be same as the samsung stock charger which comes in the box
