LG V35 Google Fi/unlocked edition - LG V30 Guides, News, & Discussion

I just received my Project Fi V30. It looks like the same model as the unlocked version but I've not confirmed that with anyone since I don't think the unlocked versions outside of Project Fi have shipped yet.
Noticeable things that were easy to see right away.
1. No LG email app
2. No LG dialer, contacts, etc (google dialer, apps)
3. The LG apps I recognize are Smartworld, QuickMemo, Quick Help, Switch, Health, Smartclean
4. Only thing from project Fi is the project Fi app.
5. Always on display is a little different. The screen I use with big numbers and 2 tone colors is rearranged and the font is different
6. option for DTS X 3d Surround (along with Quad DAC as a separate option)
7. Added "wallpaper and themes" in Display options
8. renamed "Smart Settings" to "Context Awareness" in General Settings
So, pretty clean as far as bloatware goes.
Software info
Android 8.0.0
June 1 patch
build OPR1.170623.032
Software Version
V350ULM10c
There were no updates available yet in LG Bridge.
It seems like the UI is a little different than on my old tmobile v30. It is much snappier and less laggy as well. I'll have more info on battery and such once I get to use it a few days.

Sorry, did not see they finally created a v35 forum. I'll repost there and this can be deleted.

Where is this V35 forum at? I couldn't find one.

Is the fi edition bootloader unlockable? With just the fastboot commands or by another method?

[Q] Turn the v500 into a v510 (Google Play Edition)

Hi!
I'm planning on buying the LG G Pad 8.3, but I live in Brazil and the Google Play Edition isn't available here. However, I really love the simple UI and clean software-design from Google (I have a Moto G, as well) and I've alson seen some people saying that, sometimes, there are a few performance issues with the G Pad that isn't the Google Play Edition due to, mainly, LG's bloats. I'd like to know whether it's possible to flash the stock ROM (download it from somewhere) and, basically, turn the v500 into the v510 (GPe). So, is it possible? If it is, is it also necessary to change the kernel? And, if so, has anyone done it before / could it brick the tablet? I'd like to buy one soon, because of the price and good specs, but I'm not keen on the software-design by LG and I'd like to have a "original" system running on it, not some modified/customized cyanogen stuff (although, if that's my only option to a better performance, I'd probably choose it).
Thanks a lot!
Hello,
You can simply install CM11 + gapps, you've got something close to GPE.
Hahaha...you need to root the G Pad to install stock Android ROM. Maybe You can find the stock ROM here on xda developer...but root the device first.

Right...
The only problem I've encountered is not finding the Stock ROM from the Google Play edition... And I've seen the CM11 based version, I just don't like the setting menu from CM11, but maybe I'll do that. The main thing I want is the virtual button to show the recent apps that is simply non existant on the non-GPe edition!

On stock ROM : long press home button !
I know that, I've seen some videos about it already... But I don't like it and it's a functionality that Google has considered obsolete since Android 3.0 and, for some stupid reason, LG and their GREAT software-designers still implement it. They really should follow Motorola on this regard, as they are releasing new phones with no bloat at all, using basically what would be a Nexus version of their phones.
P.S.: FOUND A TOPIC ABOUT THIS IN GENERAL FORUM: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=51834016
Basically, it doesn't work due to small hardware differences (WiFi and Bluetooth seem to fail after flashing the v510 stock ROM). However, I believe an AOSP ROM is still an option for better performance.

I cannot begin to imagine why that is desirable, where everyone would have the same phone experience. Very boring.
In any case I agree that LG has done some GREAT stuff with the software. If you buy a G Pad, you will see for yourself.
How do we install CM11 + gapps? There is no playstore app?

LG G4 Missing Features? Verizon Variant Only?

It seems the Verizon Variant lost some great stock features, http://www.androidcentral.com/here-are-things-verizon-lg-g4-doesnt-have-other-variants-do
Since there is Root available now, has anyone found a way to install these missing features? I would really like Themes, Smart Settings, Custom Lockscreen, and LG Smart World. Cant see why Verizon would take out such basic and standard features? Not like Verizon is selling lock screens and themes, lol!

I'm actually still looking for SmartSettings, myself. Smartworld can be downloaded and unstated with the apk floating around somewhere,
SmartWorld can be downloaded directly from www-Lgworld-com through your phones browser.
The smart settings have been removed. On top of this it has been so poorly that ever time you plug in headphones into the stupid device google now or lg voice stupid thing comes up!

Any limits to multi-window feature?

I'm thinking of buying a G4 to replace my Galaxy S4, but want to make sure that the G4 can match the S4's multi-window feature - i.e. the ability to open any 2 apps in multi-window mode. For example, I frequently have Beyondpod and Google Maps or Waze open side-by side when I'm in the car.
I heard somewhere that the G4 has only a limited number of apps that are enabled for multi-window use. Is this true and if so, is there a hack or workaround that will enable multi-window for ANY app?

Yes, there is a few build.prop edits to allow all apps open in the dual window mode (At least on the Sprint Variant it works). The only limitations i know of are you can't run the same app side by side meaning like Chrome in both windows.

Thanks - that sounds promising. What's the simplest way of doing the build.prop edits (e.g. is there an app that simplifies it?). Presumably root is also required?
I have about 10 icon packs that show up in dual window and actually work.. I got curious and dug into ones manifest file and theres just a line giving multiwindow permission to the app in its metadata and I am thinking it might be possible to hack an apps metadata file and add it without rooting and altering the build prop, I hate the limitation of just those couple stock apps and I don't wanna root this Verizon g4 until someone cracks the BL and cooks up an easier safer root method sooo… anyone have any ideas? I know apps can be hacked and altered to an extent without root just don't know how

There is an app called flex multiwindow mod in the store, that allows all app to go into multiwindow mode.
Yep but it requires root which I want achieve without root and its totally possible if those icon packs can get in there… just will have to hack each app you want to window up and somehow add those metadata lines
Through my ancient eyes comes the certainty of decay... LG G4 & L 70
I believe there is something in xposed that helps add apps. and if not, just use the search, I ran across a thread on here to editing the build prop to allow more apps in muliwindow
Again that requires root and people should be able to put any app they want to in it cuz there's definitely tons of apps way better than the stock selection...just gotta figure out how to add those couple lines in the desired apps metadata and people would really benefit ...if I can get one of these are icon pack devs to tell me how they did it....wait I do know one..maybe more duh lol

True unfortunately, that's why I have a couple rooted phones but I can't afford risking my g4 just yet ..eventually it will be too I'm sure

Risks? What?
Just go ahead, read the instructions and follow the guide to get unlocked bootloader. Install TWRP via the app.
Then flash Genisys ROM and enjoy.
Well I have no experience with doing that kinda stuff in a pc and haven't used a computer in years so I'm the risk lol I wanna practice with adb and all that cuz the g4 is not a simple process for most and damn sure not me. Plus my variant of the g4 the boot loader cannot be unlocked ..damn verizon

Viper4Android without root possible?

I was able to eq/tune the bluetooth audio in my car perfectly using V4A on my last bunch of LG phones that were rooted. I just bought the Pixel 2 XL from Verizon knowing that the bootloader had been locked (WTF Google, why do you allow carriers to do that? - isn't the whole idea of Google phones that they are unadulterated Android?) because it appeared to be the best phone for my other music endeavors (Audio Evolution Mobile multi-track recording).
I saw some mention that it will run if SELinux is in permissive mode. Is there a way to do that manually after each reboot and then enable V4A?
Thanks

The short answer is no. I know you can change selinux with adb, however, V4A needs root to function properly. I definitely agree with you though on the Verizon/Google thing. I'm a Big Red user as well, but haven't purchased a device directly from them in 4 years for the reason you stated. And, unfortunately, it'll likely only get worse! ?

Just to touch on this, the bootloader has nothing to do with Android itself. The P2XL is still "unadulterated" Android. The Verizon units have the locked bootloader because that was the price Google had to pay in order to get the phone in the Verizon store. AT&T wouldn't have been much better, and the other two carriers aren't large enough to think about.
This "unadulterated" complaint isn't new. The Nexus 6 encountered this in 2014, because models sold in the AT&T store were carrier locked, though the bootloader was unlockable.

Thanks, good tip on buying from Google next time. I bought this one from Verizon because they knocked $300 off the price and there are 3 other Android users in the family I can pass this one to.
The Pixel 2 XL sound over bluetooth to my car's Pioneer DEH-80PRS is quite good. The highs are clear without harshness, the frequency response is flat. I'm also getting plenty of gain using the supplied dongle with Shure e5c IEM's.

As a long suffering Samsung and LG bloatware eradicator I'm grateful that I was able to eliminate the 3 or 4 VZW additions in a few minutes. No NFL running in the background - reminds me of the Simpsons episode where Bart claims he is being controlled by MLB until their satellite crashes in the backyard
I use Nova Launcher (although the launcher that came with the Pixel 2 XL seemed OK) so I'm able to tweak the behavior mostly how I want it. I originally started flashing ROMs to get around VZW restrictions placed on the phones. Especially for GPS when I was on Windows phones.
ViPER4Android
You can run Viper4Android without root. However, you need a rooted device to install it.
To install Viper4Android, follow these steps;
1. Download Busybox on your android device.
2. After downloading install Busybox. It will ask permission for root, simply grant the permission. Busybox will be installed on your device.
3. Now, Download ViPER4Android and then (more)

Having an unlocked model I genuinely forget that Verizon models install a few apps. The good news is that, as you found out, they're removable.
The P2XL is the first device I own to not have a custom ROM on it, though it is rooted. I, like virtually everyone else who has been here for years, would root Android to add features that were missing. Android 8.1 was the first version of Android to have sufficient features to make a custom ROM unnecessary. There are things I would like to see in a stock ROM such as a reboot menu with the option to reboot into recovery or the bootloader, but those are minor things which apps can compensate for. Like you, I use Nova, not just for its customization features but also because I disable the stock launcher in order to remove the horizontal recents screen.

Hi Abdul,
I'm looking for clarification. Do the above instructions mean that just by installing Busybox on my VZW Pixel 2 XL which I believe to be "unrootable" that it will temporarily be rooted?
Thanks

Agreed. It would be great to be able to root my VZW Pixel 2 XL for things like being able to access the Google Play Music playlist database directly (to backup) but other than small things like that I'm very satisfied with Android 8.1.

New 7T owner, coming from Samsung, any tips?

I just ordered a OP 7T (T-Mobile version), and while I'm not new to OnePlus (my wife has a 6T), it's *my* first OP device. I come from using Samsung devices for a few years (S6 Plus, 7, now a 9). I've read much about the 7T, read and viewed many reviews, but I'd like to know what tips from daily users I should have in mind.
Thanks!
Welcome to the smoothness. Make sure you enable 90hz from settings as soon as you get the phone in hand if it's not turned on. It doesn't affect the battery that much. So no need to worry about that.
And if you are familiar with bootloader unlocking and rooting and wanna try that i should say wait for the TWRP recovery to come. Then this 7t section would be flooded with popular custom roms; hopefully.

I sure hope so. My wife's 6T has been a great phone so far, and I expect the 7T to serve well.
May I ask which issues did you encounter? And were you able to solve them?
I came from a Galaxy S9 to the 7t in November. I need dual SIM capability so I do not have to carry two devices. I use a TMO SIM and an AT&T SIM and need band 71 support. Generally, Android devices sold in the US do not support dual SIMs, and dual SIM devices which can be purchased internationally do not support many US bands.
The device was easy to set up, works very well, and I have not had any of the issues others have reported. VOLTE & Wi-Fi calling work well on TMO but not AT&T, but that's an AT&T issue and not the problem of One Plus. I currently run the Open Beta 2 build. I bought the North American version from One Plus directly which supports all current US TMO & ATT bands. Both providers work well in this phone and I am very happy with the device overall.
I wear a Galaxy watch, and integration works just as well as it did with my Galaxy phone.

Thanks for your feedback! I also found the 7T easy to set up, as I did with my wife's 6T. I manually configured Nova Launcher to avoid cross-brand backup/restore issues, and so far no issues there also. I did notice some widgets are no longer available, but I found alternatives. All apps are working as intended.
You mentioned you are running the Open Beta Build 2. Does OnePlus allow to easily fall back to the current release build if needed or wanted? I use the T-Mobile version of the 7T if it matters. Also, how is the Beta working? I have never used beta OS versions on my previous devices (never could register in a timely way with the S9), and am curious how OP hangles this.

The Open Beta 2 works well for me. I like it. Good thing, because if I were to go back to stable I would need to wipe my phone, which is not something that is very easy to do. The 7t is a good phone. I'm not sure what the one poster's issue is, but it's likely a one off or an operator's issue.
Open Beta 3 is more stable than Stable 10.0.9, based on my experience and usage.
I did a few things when I got my 7T:
1. Unlock Bootloader, install Magisk to get root.
2. Install Nacho Notch, which makes the status bar all black, all the time and it's really nice to see the icons up there but nothing else.
3. Install my 3rd party gesture app, Vivid N.G. This allows me to use bottom gestures with massive customization. And no stupid "swipe from side" back gesture. Who thought that would be a good idea?
4. Replace launcher with Nova.
5. Install Swift Backup and restore all my apps from old phone.
6. Install and configure AdAway to block ads on a system-level.
7. Install Substratum and theme Oxygen with Liv Dark theme.
8. Replace OnePlus dialer with Google dialer (using Magisk module).
9. Install GCam and Magisk module for enabling auxiliary cameras. This provides much better photos over the stock OnePlus camera app!
I'm planning to switch to OmniROM soon since I just can't stand OxygenOS. Not that it's a bad OS by any means, just that I prefer AOSP.

I'm not even sure if Visual Voicemail works with the T-Mobile variant either. I think they just want you to use their ****ty app for VVM.
