S-ON PRODUCTION flag in bootloader? - HTC 10 Questions & Answers

I need to claim warranty on my HTC 10, bootloader is Locked, S-ON, Software status is Official, but there is this "PRODUCTION" flag next to "S-ON" (look at the photo below). I think it appeared after oreo update.
- Can someone verify for me if this is normal for stock never modified HTC 10 phones ?

I only got the production flag after unlocking bootloader and installing TWRP

After flashing the "2PS6IMG-2.51.617.32-US-Unlocked-aboot" the "Production" flag was removed.

Correct because the flag comes with the OREO firmware. When you flash an older firmware the flag will be gone because you are no longer on the oreo firmware.

Sorry Mr Hofs, let me give more info.
I have an Unlocked HCT 10, Official, Locked, and S-off. I am running 3.16.617.2 Oreo software. I wanted to see if I could remove the PRODUCTION flag.
I RUUed the 2PS6IMG-2.51.617.32-US-Unlocked-aboot. (I know never flash anything but the correct software version).
Phone booted up perfectly with no production flag. Running stable.
Knowing this I then used a text editor on the 3.16.617.2-aboot-no-red-text and removed the production flag.
I'm NOT telling anyone to try this!
I'm just telling you what I did and it worked great for me.

Bootloader starts always after restart

I have a problem with any updates or even factory reset. When I start an updaete, after restart the phone the bootloader appears and it make to stop the process of the update or factory reset. The phone HTC ONE M8 was rooted with s-off before, but I did return it to the stock (problem with camera and I need to take it back to the store on guarantee) the only thing what I forget to do was to change "software status: Modified" to "Software status: Official". Can anyone help me? The screen from bootloader attached.

Try install 4.16.401.10 RUU.exe - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=56140330&postcount=1
Maybe it will change the software status to official.

Thx for quick reply. Is it possible to make the install with S-ON? I found one more thing. When I tried to make an update, Bootloader appears with one more line of text on pink background - *** Security Warning *** - it appears between *** LOCKED *** and "M8_UL PVT SHIP S-ON. "
Yeah.. you can install RUU on S-On device when the bootloader is LOCKED or RELOCKED.
Security Warning I guess due to Modified Status.
Give the RUU a try and see how it goes. As long as there is no hardware problem like corrupted partitions, RUU will run fine.

Could I restore Stock rom on my htc m9 and how to do that?
And how I now which RUU to chose?

Download this file. Copy it to your ext sdcard and rename it to 0PJAIMG.zip
Connect your phone to fastboot and type fastboot oem lock
Boot into download mode. Phone will prompt you to install. Press volup and wait.
Before u start backup ecerything
If you're already linking one of my files you could've linked my instructions, too, since what you wrote isn't completely correct. Re-locking the bootloader is unnecessary if you use the SD card method. In the worst case (e.g. if the RUU fails and OEM unlock isn't activated in the developer options) you could end up with a non-booting phone that can't be re-unlocked. The M9 has security checks that prevents it from booting if it isn't completely stock and the bootloader gets (re-)locked. And although I tested that RUU there can always be reasons why it fails to flash.
Could you be more specific please, I am new with htc and I dont know anything about it, What is fastboot? And if you have some time to tell me step buy step how to do that i would be greatiful. Sorry for bad english
Im sorry Flippy498 i just want to help him. You are a genious and i respect you. You are a life saver.

My bad. I didn't notice that my signature isn't visible in this thread.
Edit: I don't know why the link gets broken as soon as I save this post. You'll need to copy'n'paste the link.
THX a lot, now I'm gonna to try to restore stock rome!
@Flippy498 I have just one question, I followed your instructions and it worked perfectly but I still have Software Status marked as Modified. Would I be able to receive software updates ?
Yes, you will. And you'll be able to install them, as well. (Receiving updates is not the problem, it's being able to install them if the system has been modified. However, a RUU reverts every modification you made.)
It's just strange that the flag still says that your system is modified. Normally the SD card method should reset it to original. But that shouldn't be a problem. OTAs don't check that flag. They compare whether the checksum of the system is the same as the reference value. Since a RUU overwrites the current system with the stock one you won't face any problems here.
Thanks a lot dude for your great work and quick reply !

Some things that catch my eye:
Your bootloader needs to be unlocked. It's currently relocked. Since you own the Verizon variant you can't use HTCdev for this purpose. And since you need SuperSU if you want to unlock you phone without HTCdev with the help of S-OFF, you can't use this method, either. You'll need to find someone who owns a java card for unlocking the phone.
You use one of the first TWRP versions that got released for this phone. It's more than outdated. Get TWRP 3.0.3-1 (unofficial). (You need an unlocked bootloader for flashing it.)
Not all SuperSU versions are compatible with the M9. You can only use version 2.65 with your current firmware version.

Yes, you can.
It requires unlocking the boot loader and installing a custom recovery. There are a few threads about it which makes it somewhat confusing. What it boils down to is do you want to use LL or MM to unlock it and once that is done do you wish to use the stock TW LL/MM or a custom ROM (TW/AOSP based).
Easiest to follow instructions here, uses LL to root:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/no...asy-guide-how-to-root-verizon-galaxy-t3454593
The hybrid way (LL/MM software mix, will require working SIM/Data connection to complete rooting), once done will be full MM based:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/no...t/howto-bootloader-unlock-upgrade-to-t3398144
https://forum.xda-developers.com/note-4-verizon/general/shortcut-to-rooted-n910vvru2cqi2-t3763451
IF you want to run a custom rom, unlock the bootloader as outlined in the links above, install TWRP and then the ROM of your choice (TW/AOSP).
I just did both ways above not too long ago on a new to me 910v, then I ended up using the files from this post on the modified/hybrid way to root:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=76813374&postcount=16
Then I upgraded the partial firmware from here to CQL1:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/devdb/project/?id=15720#downloads
Yes, that means I wiped and rooted all 3 ways linked/described (BPA1, CPD1 & CQI2/CQL1) trying out the files/software. All 3 tries worked fine. I will say for me, Kingoroot worked and kingroot did not. YMMV
Andrew
Thx for all the info and the great news! I guess I thought that the phone might have been updated to far. I will give it a shot. Thanks again.

Hello, I just bought a N910V with same build number as yours. Did you have a chance to see if it can be rooted? (it seems all the instructions say cannot, just want to confirm. Thanks)

LG G4 H815 - V20o - i need help with root

Hello
I bought the LG G4 H815, system is latest V20o. Can I do root without any problem? Which method? How do I know if I have a blocked bootloader, how to install TWRP? I'm sorry for lack of knowledge, but there are a lot of ways and I do not know where to start.

Not all H815's can be bootloader unlocked officially. Your first step is to check on the LG Development site to see if your device can be unlocked officially: https://developer.lge.com/resource/mobile/RetrieveBootloader.dev?categoryTypeCode=ANRS
If not, you will have to unlock it unofficially. Refer to steadfasterX's thread: https://forum.xda-developers.com/g4/general/unlock-unlock-lg-g4-device-usu-t3760451
- read all the OP throughly and make sure you understand it. You will have to ensure your device has an ARB version of 2 or less (refer to the SALT thread to ascertain your ARB version and to back up your device before proceeding to unlock) and you will have to be on stock Marshmallow (MM) before proceeding to unlock.
Once bootloader unlocked, install the latest version of the TWRP preview version for the custom rom you plan to install (i.e., MM, N or O). Once that is done you can proceed to root your device with your preferred root method, e.g., SuperSU or Magisk or if using LineageOS, the Lineage addon SU - su (arm64).
