Hi all,
I've been editing the media_profiles.xml for my mi note 3 and thought I'd share it since I've changed it to use hevc / h265. Attached is my file to be copied into /system/etc/. This is easiest to do with root or you can copy it using TWRP without root I would think. Make sure to set permissions after copy to 644, otherwise you might get a bootloop. Also backup your own file first! I'm using MIUI 9.6 by xiaomi.eu, but this file seems to be fairly universal across roms. This modification works with the MIUI camera app, other apps like GCam and Opencamera seem to use their own profiles so this makes no change for them.
Steps again...
Be rooted or use TWRP if not
Backup own media_profiles.xml
Copy file in attachment to system/etc and unzip
Set permissions on media_profiles.xml to 644 to avoid problems
Reboot and enjoy / test in MIUI camera app
Improvements:
Use HEVC / h265 instead of h264 and changed bitrates. Default rates on mine were 42mbit for 4k and 19mbit at 1080p using h264. I've changed these to 28mbit for 4k and 13mbit for 1080p. This should give roughly the same quality but lower file sizes. 720p and lower resolutions are left unchanged since I never use them. I've also changed the audio bitrate to 192kbit (update: also there is a file with 256kbit audio if desired, everything else is the same in that file) with a higher minimum sample rate and also set image quality to 100 for all cameras and doubled the image decoding memory cap from 20 to 40.

Great!
Great, smaller file size + better audio, even if there are still watery sound in the surroundings but the main audio is much better.

There is this to improve audio a bit further (I used the root method mentioned), seems to work on mine. Makes the audio louder and clearer.

If you're using vendor from lineage 15.1, I think this fix should work. If it isn't you can try the GCam mod I posted here https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=77901429&postcount=92
It enables hevc, set memcap to 40, and "HIGH" audio bitrate to 192k

Thanks for the mod unfortunately I still no luck to record HEVC & 60fps video.
What I'm did:
1. Delete all previous camera mod & reboot
2. Flash jason.all.in.one_minimal_BSG_hevc_Black-v2.2.h.zip in Magisk
3. In recovery wipe cache and cache art
4. install BSG Cam 5.3.015 60fps
5. shot the video with 60fps
I've tried several time but the video properties still shown 30fps & H.264 coding (not hevc).
I'm using Treble Resurrection Remix ROM with based LOS15.1 vendor & TwistLoop kernel.
Any step I've miss out?

5.2, 5.3 google hdr+ camera does not support hevc.
This way is suitable for Xiaomi Mi6. Maybe you can try.
For LOS15. Instructions for using 60FPS:
Install All in One Minimal. After restarting the phone, first open the snapdragon camera ( or MIUI camera ) and switch to the video , exit the app. ( this needs to be done with every restart of the phone ). Then you can use 60fps to record video.

Tried with Mi6 All in one Minimal (Mi6.all.in.one_minimal-v2.3.a.zip & Mi6.all.in.one_minimal_hevc-v2.3.b.zip). Both modules result of the Gcam not working or front camera black off.
Shot with snapdragon 3.0.r2 (Open, close & open again), prompt error say "HFR is not supported for selected resolution". I've set the resolution to 1080p or 720p & FPS to HFR60.
Any advise

You should not install the mi6 module directly.
Try this now. I modified it, it might be for you.

In oder to eliminate possible error, I format the phone & reinstall LOS 15.1 & try again.
Because of persist.camera.dxo will crash/black-off all the camera apps in LOS 15.1, I've disable it.
With this new mod:
-Gcam is working in photo & video shooting. But the video taken by Gcam is H264 but not hevc.
-I can't get HEVC video & 60fps by using the Snapdragon camera 3.0.r2, error "HFR is not supported for selected resolution" (720 & 1080p)
-Miui Camera crash when switch to video mode. HDR not working in photo mode.
-Stock camera unable shot video, photo ok.
Above is my finding, the hevc & 60fps video still no luck in Mi Note 3.
Let me know if have any new update mod to try, thanks

Snapdragon camera 3.0.r2 selection 60HSR
Miui camera changed to 4k. Because this module is suitable for BSG's GCam, so miui cameras cannot use 1080p and 720P.
Gcam 5.2 and 5.3 do not support hevc.
Miui Camera HDR not working in photo mode. I do not know why.
To use the GCam to record 60fps, you must follow the instructions below.
First open the snapdragon camera ( or MIUI camera ) and switch to the video , exit the app. ( this needs to be done with every restart of the phone ). Then you can use GCam to record 60fps video.

Ok, I've tried again. Miui camera, snapdragon camera & stock camera all can't take the video.
Miui camera:
when switch to video mode, it will crash the camera app.
Snapdragon camera:
without set any fps, when press record button, it prompt error "Could not start media recorder, can't start video recording"
Stock Camera: same error as snapdragon camera.
Can't record video except Gcam, but Gram unable to test Hevc & 60fps.
Once I delete all in one jason camera mod, all camera app can record video again.

1080p 60fps is already enabled. But if you're asking for 4k 60fps, I've read that the camera module isn't capable of that. [email protected], [email protected], [email protected] and so on but I couldn't record at more than 60 fps with any firmware version so, that part is up to Xiaomi I think..

Could you upload some 60 fps video samples ?
Till now I have not seen anyone able to record smooth 60 fps full HD video on Xiaomi Mi6, it is disabled in drivers, as I know all custom roms uses Xiaomi drivers, to enable 60 fps recoding requires some more knowledge to edit drivers, on 4PDA they did it for Mi 5S 120 fps in full HD.

Nvm . Thanks anyway .
I have installed this version and its working fine. So cool
Wrong pic ****.
Use arnova's pixel2 version and disable enable_micro setting in developer options of the app. Then you can use 12 mp back camera with hdr+ enhanced too.
And also if you want 120fps slow motion recording (4x slowed down to 30fps video), you should have miui camera installed and at least open video recording screen of the miui cam, then try gcam's slomo.
For every reboot you must do that opening video recording screen in miui cam before gcam slomo or it crashes. Looks like miui cam is enabling something just by opening its video recording screen.
Hello, there is a module Magisk with which you can shoot Full HD video in Google Camera and 120 frames per second at 1080p in slow motion
Source: 4pda.ru/forum/index.php?showtopic=825584&st=7620#entry74696285
Before installation, you need to remove other modules in the photo and video. At 60 frames autofocus floats, I advise you to use Google camera from B-S-G "MGC_5.2.025", may also have problems with the stock camera and other problems. Tried on 10 on on MIUI by xiaomi.eu 8.6.20 Android 8.0.0. Still it is necessary to disable stabilization, otherwise there will be a soap.

To shoot 60fps in gcam, you need to use a version with a choice of 60fps.
Either in the media profile in 1080p mode to put framerate = 60 (in this scenario the video in the miui camera will break, so it's better to ask the modders to activate in gcam)

Thanks fu24, the focus problem fixed eventually.
BTW, I am using PE rom 9.0
Unfortunately it seems that this module causes bunch of visual glitches on MIUI 10 at least. I noticed things like when I pressed home button app window when fading would flash black right before it disappeared, or weird black rectangle flashing over endomondo app. Which is as I mentioned unfortunate as no other module would make slow motion work for me. (aio module 2.1 crashes on slow motion and 1.8a records a bit in normal speed then inserts long pause)
Hai. 1080p 60fps video recording on original rom does not work... Why?

The Mi A2 Lite can only record 1080p @30fps. There is no 60fps option on this device. Never was and never will be on the stock camera app.
had come with pie

I have the Mi A2 Lite on the latest pie version and there is absolutely no such thing as 1080p @60fps. This phone can't do it on the stock camera app.
Maybe you have a botched camera app version or is a translation problem, but there is no such option on the Mi A2 Lite.
But I've taken 60fps of video before.

I've taken 60fps of video before.
On my A2 Lite with August Update I have the same choices including FHD 1080p, 60fps.
And recording with 60 fps with stock cam works for me.
Some months ago, I tried recording 4K (3840 x 2160, 30 fps) with Open Camera and that worked, too.
Wow

So why doesn't it work on me??
What is the exact problem?
Can't you choose "FHD 1080p, 60fps" or can't you start a recording with that setting? Does recording with the other qualities (FHD 1080P, HD 720, SD 480P) work?
All works except 60 fps. I'm using the latest version

I have FHD 60FPS. Stock, 10.0.13.0, Magisk (doubt that makes a difference). my phone was set to 30 FPS but seems to do 60 OK.
I have a 4/64 unit with the non-dt2w screen.

Is the problem only on my device?..
FHD 1080p, 60fps
Hi,
I Can Record Video In FHD 1080p, 60fps Mode, I am On Stock Rom (Latest August Patch).
Snapshot Attached !
Thanks,
MUHAMMAD Asif Qasim
Stock camera app on stock never modded (only recent stock updates) phone works great with 1080p60. Super fast. Glad to see Xiaomi slowly fixing some things.
Good

What was the earliest version you had installed?
eg. Maybe if you upgraded from Oreo it left behind some data that limits the camera?
Doing a clear data on the camera app may do something (I don't think it will delete your photos...)
I always used the current version. I cleared the data but it didn't work

How the hell do you guys have the 60fps option on your devices on unaltered factory apps/system? Since I got my phone there was never a 60fps option.
Also, on every review website or stuff like there there is only 30 fps mentioned. Check my screenshot. That's all I got on my device since day one. It's a 4gig/64gig version with no dt2w.
Hey everyone i don't own the device but @deathbreath2010 wanted to enable HEVC for this device so i made a magisk module for everyone to try
This module enable HEVC/H265 video recording on ZUK Z2 Plus
The bitrate values are the same as original and also half
the aac bitrate values are untouched
Why should I use HEVC instead of H264?
Basically, HEVC provide the same quality as H264, but using half the bitrate, this means that you can record videos with the same quality but using less space, or, if you're more inclined to that, record video that use the same space but with better quality (less compression, therefore less artifacts and more details overall).
Stock Bitrate changelog:
Code:
v0.1
- Initial release
Half Bitrate changelog:
Code:
v0.1
- Initial release

Thanks for the module. I'm on Android 10(StagOS) and I can confirm HEVC is enabled. Wanted to post screenshot of media info but upload fails..
Cheers

On ZUK Z2 there is also a problem with slow motion in google camera. It only works sometimes and is quite dark compared to normal video. I don't know if this is also related to media_profiles. On Oneplus 3 slow motion in Gcam was fixed, but i don't know how they did this. Do you have any idea?
Cheers

Yes i think slow motion requires low iso or shutter speed to work so it gets dark for everyone in slow motion. i havent really found a slowmo fix that works for oneplus 3 yet and i dont think its working for anyone if you know one that works for oneplus 3 i can try to make it work for zuk z2 plus.

In your other thread about hevc someone posted a zip and said that slow mo is working for him in Android 10 i he replaces some libs. But I don't know if this is good advice. I rarely use slow mo, but it is nice to have anyway.
Cheers
