Does anyone know if pixel xl will get a custom rom with Magisk built right in, like the Htc 10 has with Viper10 ?
I was checking out the Htc 10 forum and now Viper10 has Magisk built right in. Its really beneficial because you can disable the root with Magisk and take ota updates then turn the Magisk back on. This would make things so much easier for everyone.
I would love to see roms like Pure Nexus come with Magisk as that would be awesome.
I know its offensive to ask rom devs on roms they are building and or when they will be out and such, but maybe someone has heard through the grape vine and may be able to give a heads up on if Magisk could possibly be added to the coming customs roms for the pixel xl.
I think you misunderstood what that Magisk ROM is. It's not a ROM with Magisk built in. Magisk ROMs work like MultiROM on the Nexus 7 or 5 did and allow you to dual boot multiple ROMs. (In this case, HTC Stock and Viper)
Also even if somebody did make one, Magisk doesn't work on the Pixel devices due to the weird partition layout so you wouldn't even be able to use it.
We can already dual boot different Roms and kernels

I meant a rom with Magisk built right in. The Magisk is systemless root which you can turn it off and be able to take over the air updates because your system is 100% stock with the Magisk turned off.
I was talking about such as the new Htc 10 Viper10 4.4 rom with Magisk built right in to the rom. I would imagine it could still work with the dual partition Pixel XL and I was curious if any rom devs might be working on just such a feature.

That's what I'm saying though, a ROM with Magisk built in is completely different from that Viper thing from today.
The Viper ROM is a Magisk module for the devices existing stock ROM that replaces some files to turn it into a custom ROM (like the framework-res.apk)
You are asking for a ROM with Magisk preinstalled so you don't have to flash extra zip files.
Also, it wouldn't because Magisk itself doesn't work with the Pixel (the first known issue on the official Magisk thread and a post reply under that OP says until the creator of Magisk get's a Pixel, Magisk is incompatible with both Pixels so it wouldn't matter if it's preinstalled or you flash it, it wouldn't work. And not working means you can't even install a Magisk ROM like Viper.

I disagree. Magisk worked on the Pixel's earlier firmware. I used it to decrypt my Pixels. The O update killed it.

Okay one, that website has hundreds of fake how-to guides that are the same one and all they do is change the device/OS name so I wouldn't trust that at all.
Second, maybe it worked but my point is the official Magisk thread says it doesn't work on Pixels because the layout. Since you said it "decrypted" your Pixels, I'm pretty sure Magisk does do that before installing but Magisk itself didn't actually install.
Lastly, there's no such thing yet as Android O so I know you are either trolling or don't know what you are talking about. Not only is 7.1 still Nougat/N but the Pixel launched with 7.1 so it hasn't had a major update that could have killed it if it worked before.

It is AOSP based compared to LOS (CM) which the majority of the ROMs posted are.
DU is a great ROM. I found that it lacked some important features that I like, but a very solid ROM.
Yes i tried on Sprint but there was no data...even after entering the apn in

Encryption was not working, even with a full data format prior to flashing.
Any other opinions?
I have been running the weekly and official builds with nebula eas kernel for about 5 weeks or so. I personally feel its the best non-sense based ROM for my usage. It does lack some customisations most others have but makes up for it by being super stable, fast, battery friendly and just works as its supposed to with bull. I use superSU, substratum and A.R.I.S.E audio mod with selinux permissive without dramas.

It comes WITHOUT root. So you can choose your preffered method or no root at all.
I don't know about safetynet as I am not using android pay or anything that relies on it to pass.
Also I have not had any encryption issues as someone earlier replied

I've tried several combinations, with older/latest firmware.
Every time, It would ask for the encryption password on bootup.
Even if I haven't set one up.. With data format prior to installing
Anyway, got sick of re-setting apps on my phone, just installed Maximus HD ROM, and that's that ?

I think it was the DU team's decision to close all and not allow any XDA threads. Someone correct me if I am wrong.
No idea why though.

What variant , firmware and TWRP are you using?
Everytime I try that rom..it encrypts itself with an unknown password, and upon restart I'm unable to access my phone

I have had that happen when switching from a sense based ROM to LOS or AOSP and it's a "pita"... Anything that I want to keep gets moved to my SD card before I reboot to recovery.
I read through several threads and tried several possible solutions so I can't remember exactly which one worked.
I am currently on Verizon, official Nougat with the flashed us unlocked "patch", TWRP 3.1.0-1. If you are on Verizon or Sprint you need to patch the image with a missing image that is found in the us unlocked model (there are threads discussing it where you can find the file).

It was not related to the data partition.
The format user data was done prior and after flashing it.
There is a DU Oreo-based build for the HTC 10: https://download.dirtyunicorns.com/?device=pme
For the time being it is under "RC". Downloading now, will report back!
Edit: ROM is very nice and is flying by. Only downside is that camera app is VERY slow... Also, woofer is not working (as expected).
What I like the most is that it is AOSP, i.e. no LineageOS stuff like AudioFX, etc. Customisation features are nice and the experience is close to Pixel with Stock OpenGapps. If the camera app is fixed, then this would be perfect (I believe it will, since this is the first RC release)!
Further notes: Capacitive buttons backlight is off by default (can't find any standard option to turn on, maybe with a kernel tool?) and notification LED does not work either. Don't mind for the capacitive buttons too much, but the LED is a real problem.

Thanks also for posting additional commits also.

I wonder what can produce this problems. I personally like to have encrypted device, but makes me think twice before update to new ROM now.
Is there a way to check what kind of encryption is used ? I mean FDE or FBE (or both) ? Maybe the problem is there. I buy this phone quite recently and started with clean Oreo (with format data) so I probably ended with ext4/FBE. Maybe problematic cases used FDE+FBE ?
I would like to see someone find what can be the cause for this problems as clean install or reinstalling Rom ten times is not a solution :/

Afaik oxygen is using keymaster1 and lineage/omni/aosp are using keymaster3. That seems to be a problem.

Thanks for your help, I tried to flash this TWRP via fastboot but same issue as before, can't seem to ask for a password in order to decrypt storage. I'm trying to sideload 9.2 to see if it can work by flashing on it again, we never know... In either case I'm screwed lol.
Any way to decrypt storage using a flashable zip in TWRP? Like no_verity, etc ? I feel like the answer is no since it will say that it is decrypted, but it won't decrypt the data that is already encrypted (would be too easy right?).
Hi everyone,
I decided to make a thread about this topic because I took too much time trying to check how to do this, as isn't really documented.
If you are at Official Android 8 - 9, so you must use A-type Treble images. If you are at Official Android 10, so you must pick AB-type Treble images. Always pick ARM64 images.
Some nice projects about Treble:
- AOSP 10: https://forum.xda-developers.com/pr...velopment/aosp-10-0-quack-phh-treble-t3992559
- LineageOS 17: https://forum.xda-developers.com/pr...lopment/gsi-lineageos-17-0-gsi-archs-t4004673
- Resurrection Remix (Android 8, 9, 10): https://forum.xda-developers.com/pr...pment/gsi-resurrection-remix-o-6-1-0-t3811299
- Many others: https://forum.xda-developers.com/project-treble/trebleenabled-device-development
How to install it on your Tab S4, order is important here:
- Basically, get TWRP and install it: https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-tab-s4/development/recovery-twrp-3-3-0-sm-t83x-t3928278
- Format your data folder at TWRP
- Make backup at least from Boot and Vendor Image.
- Pick and install any of the Treble images mentioned before. At TWRP go to "Install", then tap "Install Image", and pick "System Image"
- Install DM-Verity disabler https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/software/universal-dm-verity-forceencrypt-t3817389
- Install Magisk https://magisk.me/zip/#Download_Magisk_Zip
It should work, if doesn't, try another build as might be some bug. Be sure to follow all previous steps as mentioned, or you may be stuck at bootloop.
Known issues:
- Mono audio, only bottom speaker works.
- Some projects may have a rotation issue.
- S-Pen is detected as a mouse instead of pointer, but not really a bug.
- Others: https://github.com/phhusson/treble_experimentations/wiki/Samsung-Galaxy-Tab-S4-10.5
Hope this helps to anyone! Let me know if you get some problem, from my side I had built and installed LineageOS, it works flawless! Encryption or password lock doesn't work (for me)

It works like a mouse, as someone said, if there is some app supporting drawing with a mouse, it will work.
s-pen works quite good, but mouse icon is annoying for me.
Those running a treble rom, does your whole screen fill when in landscape mode or does it cut off the side by 96 pixels?
Does the S-Pen support pressure sensitivity when used via one of these ROMs?
don't install gsi roms, i tried several times and i advice you not to do it. they're too much unstable, but what's more important is that it will boot only once, if you reboot by mistake it won't boot again and will go bootloop. that's very sad that no rom has been developed for this device, indeed it has got very good specs. so, in short, tab s4 is not suitable for modding. sell it and buy the previous model, it has got more support and roms.

no gsi rom supports s-pen features like the stock one, cause no software has been developed for them, so pressure sensivity won't be recognized. only stock rom fully supports it.
Out of curiosity: was anyone successfull in installing LineageOS 20? I tried it with several different versions already, but somehow I always end up in a boot loop...thats not much fun!
So I am open for any hints/tips/tricks which help to make it work!!
Or was anyone succeeding in installing LineageOS 19? Looking for anyone who is interested in making the tablet work with GSIs
For the case that others might have the same questions. I managed to get LineageOS 17.1 and LineageOS 20 up an running. How did I do it?
Install TWRP WIFI version from official TWRP website (also works on LTE version)
Format data -> type "yes" and cofirm
Wipe Cache, Dalvik, System
Flash LineageOS 17.1 arm64_bvS from AndyYan Sourceforge repository (if you start from Android 10, which you should because you should obviously install the latest available Samsung stock firmware)
Flash DM-Verity disabler (I installed 11.02.2020 version) to disable DM-Verity and also encryption
Voilà! It should run! If you want to run LineageOS 20 proceed with
Reboot to TWRP
Flash LineageOS 20 arm64_b versions (I installed bvN)
Flash DM-Verity disabler again (not sure if it has to be flashed again, I do it)
Voilà!
This is basically the only way it worked. I tried many others such as:
Different versions of treble roms
Flash LineageOS 20 straight away not flashing 17.1 before
Trying to keep encryption enabled with DM-Verity disabler
Trying to flash a patched boot.img instead of DM-Verity disabler to keep encryption enabled
but nothing worked.
I suspect encryption is not working since the tablet uses FDE instead of FBE...but I do not have enough knowledge to address such an issue.
Important: screen lock by gesture, pin, or password does not work!!
EDIT: after some days of usage it appears to be unstable. Maybe try not to skip any major LineageOS update, so first install 17.1, then 18.1 and so on until you arrive at the desired one. I did not test this approach.
I tried to figure out any way to enable encryption, but did not succeed. The ways I tried:
Install LineageOS, then flash no-verity-opt-encrypt.zip: results in known ERROR 1 when installing no-verity-opt-encrypt.zip. Just google the error for clarification.
Flash an old TWRP (3.3) in order to not run into ERROR 1 to install no-verity-opt-encrypt.zip. Installed, but did not find fstab.qcom file, so worthless.
Install DM-Verity disabler renamed to Disable_Dm-Verity_enfec_11.02.2020.zip not to disable encryption. Can boot but tablet is not encrypted and also pin lock does not work.
Flash a patched boot.img, install LineageOS 17.1, mount vendor partition in TWRP and edit vendor/etc/fstab.qcom manually via adb pull and adb push.
Changed forceencrypt=footer to fileencryption=ice did not work
Changed forceencrypt=footer to encryptable=footer which boots up. Also, one can set a pin lock, but then when entering it again after setting it, it will not be recognized anymore. Moreover, when trying to encrypt the tablet it just crashes and reboots.
Finally, I think there does not exist a way to flash LineageOS AND enable encryption on this device. I suspect the cause is that the Tab S4 uses FDE, and not FBE. I am sure there exists some way to make it work. I am not skilled enough for that though. One last point, obviously I searched for the setting in Developer Options to convert encryption from FDE to FBE, but sadly this setting does not exist (not in stock, nor in LineageOS).
Conclusion: I reverted back to stock since I have to have encryption enabled. If this is not a requirement for you then try the above mentioned steps. Also, try not skipping a major LineageOS update, maybe this fixes the instability issues! Also: REPORT your experiences in this thread!

Hello bro , thank you so much for your info and your time
I have two questions
When you tested LineageOS 20 :
1- Stereo Speakers (4 Speakers) working fine ?
2- When your tablet restart did your tablet boot loop or lost it ?
Because i heard that when your device restart you may loses it
Sorry about my English
Do you recommend to install LineageOS 20 ? Because i want to give my tablet fresh looking oneUI 2.1 so old
And i tried many versions of treble roms but no thing successfully with me

1) Only bottom speakers work (as far as I can tell this is pretty much always the case)
2) Depending on what I tried it either bootlooped or was stuck at the bootanimation logo of LineageOS. I documented some cases here.
I did not loose it (not exactly sure what you mean). If you're asking whether it broke, then no...still works fine.
If you do not care about encryption nor screen lock, then I recommend to install it! Actually, LineageOS runs very smoothly.
While awaiting the arrival of my new OP9 Pro, I plan to root & install a custom rom. I'm currently gathering all the utilities/files needed for flash, and preparing for the install.
I'm coming from a OnePlus 6t [Android 9 / Root / Havoc-OS], and lot has changed in terms of what apps/utilities are used for specific functions.
I have no prior hands-on experience since Android 9. I'm playing catch-up on the latest methods on how to do things, so I'm not going in blind.
In short, I'm trying to get up to speed here on what go-to apps/utilities are mainly used for our devices:
Device: OnePlus 9 Pro LE2125 (Root)Pending ROM: crDroid v8.9 [Android 12L] OR Nameless ASOP [Android 12L]
--FULL SYSTEM BACKUP ?--
I previous used TWRP & Titanium Backup (I like the 'freezeframe' style of backups where system can be recovered right where I left off). Its my understanding that TWRP is not supported on A12. It appears a lot of TWRP functions are replaced with MSM Tool / LineageOS Recovery since A12 released.
What is relevant now for A12?
*I've see a lot of people using 'Swift' & 'Migrate' to back up apps*I've read EDL Mode + MSM Tool can be used for full system backup -- Cant find a guide on how to do this. I thought MSM Tool is only used to recover bricked devices to factory.*Is LineageOS Recovery a viable replacement for TWRP?
--APPS ?--
SD Maid?
Is this still relevant for A12 in 2022? Any alternatives?MiXplorer?

I also have a OP9P on its way to me, and I'm doing research as well.
Thank you for starting it.
Great choices when it comes to the ROMs you selected. Here's my personal list of mods/apps/ROMs
ROM: Nameless AOSP
Mods: Google Sans Plus for system wide Google Sans, AdAway for Ad Blocking, YouTube Vanced, SafetyNet Fix [dicey but usable] , SwiftBackup for backing up and restoring (100% would recommend works perfectly)
Titanium has not been updated in a while. Swift is indeed a great replacement, can recommend.
Lineage recovery works for lineage OS and some ROMs if they explicitly state to use it. Some custom ROMS have their own recovery for A12 (example crDroid and StagOS). Do not use lineage recovery for these custom roms, will risk soft brick.
crDroid is great, recommend their firmware flash tool to flash their required base rom to both A and B partitions (dual boot partitions are a thing now, not sure if it was on A9). However its still under active development and not rock solid stable yet. StagOS is stable on A12. Cant speak about Namless have not tried it.
Also be aware some custom A12 roms require OOS/A11 base for install, while others require OOS/A12 base. Some require payload dumping (see Fastboot stuff further below for payload dump GUI).
NikGapps (micro to full options) for Gapp suite.
Magisk with some key modules such as safetynetfix and magiskhide props config (sideload magisk if you can during custom rom install, easiest method). Can recommend shamiko as well for better denylist. FoxModuleManager app if you want magisk module repos. Debloater for debloating. Deatch are Detach3 for detaching apps. Amaze for file manager.
Adaway is great for adblocking. Vanced for youtube (ReVanced as successor, not sure how long vanced will still work; dev has stopped). Aurorandroid for a decent f-droid replacement. Kernel flasher for kernel switching (blu_spark is a good custom kernel). And LSpeed for system tweaks.
Fastboot Enhanced (payload dumper with GUI) and Fastboot++ (very up to date with latest ADB drivers) for best adb/fastboot environment.
Anecdotally, A11 is better for battery and A12 for performance. You wont miss out on much in A12 vs A11 in most other regards.
Great info! Thanks for the replies!
Definitely helps me out

I've had lemonadep for a long time and I've been using nameless since it's been available but I've always been testing other rom's that came out, I can tell you that nameless is very stable along with crdroid (which I don't use because I I don't have a switch to FHD+ when I need more battery)
for backup i use swift backup, and it never failed.
for recovery it is important to use the recommended by the developer, and nothing else.
I wonder how is the effectiveness of SDMaid on a high end cell phone like ours, in aosp, so I don't use it.
MiXplorer is practical and I've been using it for a few years, it's good for accessing the root and for some services on the network
Thank You good info. I was looking for good backup app
