Responsiveness- Un-locking and Bluetooth hookup - Google Pixel 2 XL Questions & Answers

Even though I understand that I'm part of the P beta. Has anyone else experienced a no reaction to an unlock screen or poor bluetooth hookup.
Unlock- unresponsive from the blank lock screen. In this case I push the power button and then the unlock works
Bluetooth- A longer than usual time to connect plus says it's connected but it's not. Turning BT on and off seems to recycle it
Could this be just part of the Beta items to fix?
Thanks

Only Bluetooth issue I had was back with DP2, connection with a 2016 ILX wasn't exactly fully connected. Media still came out of my phone. I would have to uncheck media in the settings then check it again to get the sound going through the car speakers. That didn't happen with a 2013 Passat and is now fine with DP3.

[Q] Bluetooth and Charging behavior

Just got my S3 4 days ago , so far i like it. But i noticed some things and wanted to know if those are "normal" for that phone.
Charging : When charging i plug it in , charging icon appears all is ok, screen lights up then turns off. That's ok, but during the night ( normally my charging time) the screen will turn back on and stays on, it doesn't go away unless i press the power button. Is this normal ?
Bluetooth : When using Bluetooth to listen to music in the car, the sound keeps going up and down at random intervals, it does that too when using the phone. I connect to my Kennwood Excelon head unit, it never did that before with my other phone.
I would have to say no. But need more information.
With charging are you using the stock charge unit? if so are you going direct to the wall or have you tried a different outlet to see if the issue is still happening. I plug mine in at night and the next morning the screen is off but I can't see my phone while sleeping.
With your bluetooth is it just the one device that is causing the volume issue? Have you tried different bluetooth devices to see if the issue still happens. Is your volume change happening with song changes or changing during the same song while playback.
Thanks for helping,
Charging is done with the Samsung Docking station and samsung cable that came with phone, i will try without the docking station.
Bluetooth , yes it's only with the Samsung, on my other phones before ( iphone and Xperia Arc ) everything was ok.
I noticed mine was doing the same thing on my Kenwood DNX7190HD. I didn't have any trouble from other phones either. However, I did turn off the automatic volume adjust for road noise and that seem to help some.

Cool i will try this , thanks. So it could be a Kenwood BT compatibility problem cause i have the DNX 9140

Bluetooth connection issue

I cannot fully connect Bluetooth so the phone part works with my 2016 Mazda cx9. I can only get the audio. All boxes are checked on the Bluetooth side but the screen on the car says cannot connect with phone. Any other settings I could try or maybe missing?

Getting same thing on my Lexus Gs and my fiat 500
I'm also having a Bluetooth issue with my car, though it's a bit different. It pairs no problem and it will play music through the car speakers but then it randomly starts playing through the phone speakers. I go into Bluetooth on the phone and it says it's still connected to the car but it plays through the phone. It's happened 3 times now. Two times turning Bluetooth off and on again fixed it, the other time I couldn't get it to play through he car speakers again.
The sound has also been very choppy through one of my Bluetooth speakers. I'm hoping this is software related, not something wrong with the hardware.
I have an issue w/ BT in my car as well, but in my case the phone connects but doesn't STAY connected. It pairs just fine to the car (Cadillac SRX), but drops within seconds. When I first paired it, the connection dropped before I could even add the smart lock device. I repeated multiple times, and even turning BT off/on it literally disconnects within 5 seconds. So I can't even make calls in the car. But it connects and stays connected just fine to my Soundfreak BT speaker in the house..
No BT issues to report here. Phone and audio work perfectly in my 2016 Infiniti Q60.
Same here. 2013 Genesis Coupe BT wokring great no issues....
mine says in correct pin, lol but both Pins are the same on the car and phone, idk
Anyone have updates on this or has onePlus acknowledged it? It looks like they have tons of a2dp problems on their forums with the oneplus X and have yet to resolve them, just leaving the people with a phone that doesn't work with tons of different systems, which work with about 99% of other phones.
To update my situation, in my 2014 Lexus it will not display any song information or play music properly.
In my 2016 fiat, it makes the car completely useless as it sends the fiats head unit into a boot loop upon connecting.

I'm now having an exciting new problem. If I'm listening to music over Bluetooth and I stop somewhere, to get coffee this morning for example, when I get back in the car it'll start playing back on the car speakers but extremely quietly. I have to turn the car volume up to max to barely hear it. I have to toggle Bluetooth like 5 times or more to get it working again.

Have exact same issue with my Escalade
Seems to be a default bug with Oneplus phones and yet my cheap Cubot at a 1/6 of the price of the OP3 connects fine to my car.

Same sort of problem here with Renault MediaNav. Different is It connects onley to disconnect a few seconds later.
Really driving me mad.

Got problems with my Kenwood car stereo as well. Sometimes, if I'm trying to connect, it just says that the PIN is incorrect (even though I don't enter one). And if I'm lucky enough and it opens the prompt to enter the PIN, it won't do anything after I enter it.
Had a similar problem on my HTC m7 or Nexus 4 (can't remember) with a faulty custom ROM. Changed to another one and it worked again.
But I don't wanna leave stock on my Opo3 yet :S
I have the Renault Kadjar and using the stock rom i can only use the music side of the bluetooth. I spoke with Oneplus and they tried to help but they did not know what is wrong. I ended up rooting the phone and using a Custom Rom, at the moment i am using resurrection rom and i have no problems with the bluetooth.
Just tried it with my other car which has a pioneer radio. No problems with that one.
Still a no go on with the MediaNav

Bluetooth issue...

Bluetooth was working fine until today. Out of nowhere, the phone wouldn't connect to my car that it was connected to prior.
Tried toggling BT off and on, didn't work. Tried rebooting the phone, still won't connect. Tried deleting the phone from the car and re-syncing it, didn't work. Other phones still connect, so it isn't an issue with the car.
Anyone have any ideas for me?

I've read of BT issues and Oreo in general. My phone connected to my car, but I cannot use it for hands-free phone, music/media only.
Jaybird Freedom F5 headphones, fwd/back, vol up/down worked fine, but start/stop for reasons unknown did not work without kicking on/off Assistant first. That was yesterday. Today all fine. no idea why.
Problematic in
Cloud Player
Spotify
Smart Audiobook Player
I have Button Mapper to enable squeeze to launch flashlight, and even after setting up headphone button to start/stop yesterday, after several reboots it still didn't work properly. Today, however, all behaving NORMAL.
I haven't been able to have my phone connect to my car since I've gotten this. Looks like it connects then when my car asks for me to name it, it says pairing failed. Going to check and see if I can connect it to my sound bar tomorrow morning. Hopefully they push an update that fixes it
I have two pixel 2 XLs one would connect to my Bose SoundLink mini for a few seconds and disconnect repeatedly. The other one, is perfect and have no issues.
I have the same bluetooth issue. My 2XL paired with my car without any problems but won't stay connected. If I connect and make a call it stays connected for the call but disconnects when I hang up the call. My S5 always connected automatically when I turned on the car.

I also am having exact same issue on my P2XL. Paired and connected fine first time, played a ton of Spotify, haven't been able to get it to reconnect ever since. Need to check another phone in car as well as check P2XL with another BT device. Will report back but I may just exchange it as I am within in 14 days. It very well could be software related but don't want to risk them giving me a refurb once I am outside 14 days. Rather get the brand new one and if issue persists, hope that it is resolved in software update.
Report back soon.
EDIT: My phone pairs with everything BT very very quickly; however, it will never connect. I still have several days left on my exchange for brand new device period (they extended it from 15 to 21 days per the Google rep I just spoke with). I am inclined to just exchange and get a brand new one versus waiting until outside of that period and exchanging for a potential refurb; however, I noticed that Google now provides what we are getting in our updates before they come and the November update is full of Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL bluetooth fixes so I think I might hold out to see if that fixes our issues, most of them seem specific to our issues of connectivity.

Hi all,
Just downloaded the November release and can confirm that Fast Pair works now and BT is fully functional. I forgot the device on my car and on my phone upon reboot after installing the update. Turned my car on, turned BT on and it really paired and connected within seconds. Tested with 3 more speakers and even went back to car to test again. All good to go. There were a ton of patches listed for BT specific to P2 and P2XL, glad they fixed this so quickly.

Where do you get the November release? I just checked system updates and nada.
Regardless, I fixed my BT issue with Google support's help... press and hold home button. Press blue icon in upper right. Press three dots, then settings. Tap phone, then scroll down to other voice settings. Make sure Bluetooth headset is enabled. Also, reset your network settings. Delete the pairing on your car, then pair again. Mine worked like a charm.

I just went into System Updates and checked and it was available. It started rolling out today, I am sure you get it soon. I tried support's help, made sure BT headset was enabled, deserted network settings and deleted pairing on car and phone multiple times to no avail. With the new update I can swap between 2 different BT speakers almost instantly. The update includes many other fixes/improvements. Some to do with screen, most of that though coming in December patch I believe.
EDIT: added screenshot of About Phone screen to show November 5th patch. Hope you get yours soon!

Not sure if there is a November patch for the dev version just yet, I'm sure there will be but might not be on the 5th/6th like we are used to seeing. Could be wrong though. I do know they started rolling it out today so it might just take a bit to get to you, I didn't see it this afternoon around 2 pm but did around 5 pm. Hope this helps.

NP, glad you could understand me--I just realized the typos I had in my original post, so I edited it...
Is the Bluetooth power level changing for anyone since the November patch? I've been running Jaybird X2 since early this morning and there is no way I'm still at 100% four hours later. I paired them after the patch. Turned them off and on, Bluetooth off and on. I'll try rebooting next, but it's strange all the same.
edited: still 100% (4hrs use)
edited2: now 60% (6hrs use)
These typically have 8-10 hours use per charge.
edited3: now 10% (9hrs?)
I didn't see when it changed or what the increments were.
"Battery Low" warning at 20 minutes power left.
Anyhow, just my experience.

I noticed this too, not a huge issue for me as most, if not all, of my BT devices have battery indicators on them. I don't typically go into BT settings to check battery of BT devices but that's just mw

Weird Bluetooth behavior

I have what I think is strange behavior with the Bluetooth where it tried to connect to devices (versus always being connected).
It works perfectly fine for my car and my Huawei watch as well as when I try to connect to some Bluetooth speakers in my house. With my fitbit it works most of the time but sometimes I have to reset the phone for it to sync. Where I have a lot of problems is with my August Smart Lock and my Bluetooth scale. It very rarely connects to the lock for the auto unlock function normally, but if I restart the phone it will connect right away and work fine for a while and then stop connecting again. I see very similar behavior with the scale, but sometimes just toggling the Bluetooth will help it connect.
Is there something in missing that could be causing it? I disabled the optimization for Bluetooth related things and that didn't seem to do much. It's frustrating because my wife's stupid iPhone connects right away to both the lock and scale.
Any ideas?

So no one has an issue similar to this?

I've been having issues with my Bluetooth auto connecting to various devices since I got the phone when it came out. It rarely auto connects. Usually I have to toggle the Bluetooth on and off a bunch of times then manually click on my device in Bluetooth settings 1000x for it to connect.

Bluetooth and Car Audio

Anyone else having issues with connecting the 7T to their car and getting audio going out of it? My OG Pixel didn't have a problem, but I have to toggle off/toggle on Bluetooth and then manually tap the car's bluetooth listing to get it to actually 'connect' the audio portion.
Rather annoying, considering I'm only in the car for a few minutes at a time, this either eats into the time entirely, or makes me sit in my car for a couple minutes before even driving to fiddle with the bluetooth settings.
Car has stock headunit, 2015 Evo X. Like I said, original Pixel XL had no issues, but this is annoying. I've tried changing bluetooth versions to no avail. I can see it connecting and dropping the bluetooth connection fairly frequently while staring at it and trying to 'get it going'. But once it connects, it stays there.
My bluetooth headphones (Some knock off cheap Chinese ones for $20) don't seem to have an issue.
My connection to my aftermarket stereo is fine. Just seems a little quieter than my last phone. Connecting is kind of slow too when I start my car but it is automatic.
I don't have any issues with connecting to all 3 cars (2014 Honda Accord, 2009 Pontiac G8 Gt and a 2018 Honda Fit) but I do agree that the volume seems a little lower than my previous phone (Galaxy S8).

Hmm. Weird. Is there anyway I can check for logs to find out what exactly is happening? I haven't rooted, just don't know if it's something I can naturally pull from Android as a whole.
I had the same issue, but when I made the phone discoverable and initiated bt from the car stereo it seemed to work.
I also set a custom pin , not the default 0000
My bluetooth is quiet, but its also static-y. I never had any issues with my G6 and now I get static clipping every 10 or so seconds. Its unbearable.

I'm not really having an issue pairing it, but it's just connecting after pairing is the problem.
I have changed the default pin. I can see it popping up and down the car stereo a few times in the bluetooth settings before it just gives up.
As for the other issues, I'm not having a problem at all with audio volume, nor popping/static when it finally does connect.
My volume is super low when connected to Android Auto and streaming music. Have to turn the radio up to max. However, I'm assuming that's an AA issue or Android issue, as it seems many others are having the same problem with different phones. Been thinking of adding an aftermarket amp to the car. Maybe I should pull the trigger. Lol

My OnePlus 7t connects fine and phone works for calls on 2014 cts. The sound comes out of phone can change song on head unit but I can't get audio to play through car. Anyone else get this?
Yeah music stutters with car player... Only calls work. Music works on headphones etc. I couldn't find solution, did network reset, cleared cache. Nothing works.
Seriously!
I've wasted at least two hours already trying all the recommended steps: from flicking icons on and off to a full phone reset.
Still no connection to my Suzuki S-cross car. Multiple previous phones have connected effortlessly.
Even the $50 temporary five year old borrowed phone could handle it.
Anyone got any other suggestions? Yes, tried the AVRCP setting change from 1.4 to 1.6. That didn't work either...
Barebones system reset from scratch running O2 OS 10.0.6HD65AA
Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

Tried that.
Tried one other car - no problems.
Tried a tablet and a very old phone with the car and suprise - the car's bluetooth seems to be the problem.

Yep most have lots of tedious steps that are different model to model and if not followed exactly will cause this problem on occasion..
In my case music starts to be scrambled after 10 minutes or so of listening. When I take the phone (so the watch pops up) or turn on the screen it immediately works fine again, but when being put aside and the screen turns off, the issue starts again ..
Also in the early days of my previous 5t I had the same issues but some fix was delivered together with oxygen os update. And now the same story again
I have a different issue with Bluetooth:
- OP7T connects to car Bluetooth fine
- I can make/answer calls
- Bluetooth media works fine
The problem is with Google Assistant & car audio:
- it was working as intended until the latest update - 10.0.15 - I was pressing the button on the steering wheel the google assistant was answering questions through the car bluetooth, no need to switch to bluetooth media.
- after the latest update, when I press the button on the steering wheel, Google assistant pops on the phone , starts to answer question, but cuts off after 5 seconds. the command still goes through and Assistant still runs, but does not come up on the car audio.
- it looks like the Assistant is not connecting to the car as a hands free, but as to a bluetooth handsets.
Anyone experiencing this?
