Hello, I have accidentally deleted all my files from sdcard partition on my GNex with Android 4.2.2. I deleted them from the pc, connected by the USB cable.
I have read if I am root I can recover the files with this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1994705, but I´m not rooted and for root, I must unlock the bootloader, wiping my device again.
¿Any ideas? Please HELP!
If you're feeling brave try ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2016628 )

Hi guys,
Long time reader, and great help to be found I hope!
I just bought a Z1C, followed successfully the full DRM backup, full root process and bootloader unlocked, from the guide posted : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2642081
I took a full backup of DRM keys and Nandroid.
I then went to load the Resurrection Remix ROM. I booted in to PhilZ recovery and did a full wipe and factory reset - "Ready for ROM". This completed successfully.
I then realized I forgot to copy the Resurrection ROM files onto my external SD and cancelled/exit out of PhilZ Recovery.
Now when I power up, all I get is SONY logo. I assume this is because the phone has no operating system due to the ROM being wiped and nothing being installed in it's place.
I can confirm I can get into Fastboot mode (Blue LED, but connecting USB and holding UP volume button) but nothing else!!!
If anyone has any ideas, I would really really appreciate it!
thanks in advance!
... ok, so I found a quick fix, sorry for the alarm. I just used ADB to flashboot a version of CWM6 and made it boot into recovery, copied the Resurrection ROM onto my external SD with a card-reader (seperate) then installed the ROM ... hooray! Now I can sleep.
Thanks to anyone who started reading...
For future reference, just using fastboot to install a boot partition with a recovery on it is sufficient to fix these kinds of issues.
fastboot boot path/to/boot.img
or
fastboot flash boot path/to/boot.img
And for the record, with most recoveries you can mount your SDcard on your computer via USB, in CWM it is available in the mounts menu as "Mount USB storage"

Thanks for the tips. I'm a bit new to this thing ... I assume your commands above will create a separate partition for booting, but how do I get to that recovery screen? ... and I assume boot.img is a recovery boot file? Renamed from CWM?
My issue above was I couldn't load up anything (Sony logo appears, and nothing else, couldn't proceed to recovery screen by pressing UP volume) ... I only could connect to my computer in flash mode for Flashtools to read, and had to start the whole "root my phone" process again.
I am playing around with the stock Sony UK ROM, but I am keen to flash Aura's AURom or maybe another one ... is there a way that I can basically create a "rollback point" so that if I don't like the new ROM I can re-instate what I am playing with now? I really don't want to have to go through the whole root process again if I semi-brick again! Just want to do an easy "undo" ...
Many thanks for putting up with the noob-ness.
boot.img is an image of the kernel. Note that this command is only for unlocked bootloader.
Seems you are using dualrecovery (which resides inside /system) and since you wiped /system you couldn't get into recovery anymore. If you have unlocked bootloader you should use a custom kernel. You can use the one of [NUT] (same functionality as dualrecovery) or the one from Doomlord.
I really don't want to have to go through the whole root process again

You do realize that the root process with unlocked bootloader is as followed:
1. Flash custom kernel
2. Go to recovery and flash SuperSU zip

Exactly, and if you have saved your TA partition already, then you can always unlock the bootloader, root, and then relock bootloader by flashing your TA partition back.
Awesome, thanks guys for all the help. I will give the AURom a go and hopefully succeed this time.
One last question, what is contained in the TA backup, and what is in a Nandroid backup? From reading, TA is just a set of keys and Nandroid is a Rom backup?
TA backup is a backup of the Trim Area partition, inside of this partition there are DRM keys. Nandroid backup is a backup of various partitions (/system, /data/, etc.) but not TA partition.

Super thanks guys, much appreciated
Hello, I've buyed a Moto z2 play. I unlock the phone, I do a nandroid backup, then I flash Oreo 64 bit, then I reflash stock nougat. At this point, cause I'm an idiot, I make a format, so I loose my backup. I try to flash this and that but nothing. Fortunately I download a persist partition's backup (from another device) from the web and now my 2 IMEI are 0, i can't rewrite they with original IMEI I have (I think), I lost my serial number (?) and I lost my 4g (LTE).
I think it is because I've format a persist partition (perhaps) or other important partition.
I need help if anyone can rewrite a persist file with my original IMEI or if anyone can share this partition backup. I've a xt1710-09 (Italy).
Is it possible to relock bootloader and send phone to lenovo or I can brick the device?
Thanks

the folder is still in your system is recommended to find more about the subject, I managed to recover the imei of a moto.g4play do not lose the imei completely
you need a version of TWRP that is compatible with write twrp correctly and take a backup of your phone (this is achieved by formatting the persistent area and loading a stock software with the correct commands you have to verify your imei from fastboot, barcodes section , if it still appears, you can recover it
Thanks for your reply. When I came back home I try to restore the partition (or brick the phone)!

My goal is to create a system backup (including Android OS) of my Galaxy S9 (SM-G960F), just like I can do on my PC using Acronis True Image or other similar programs, because now I have Pie but Android 10 is available, and I want to be able to roll back in case of bugs.
I've found out one of the best ways of doing this is using TWRP. Flashing a custom recovery means making changes (editing recovery partition), but some say TWRP can be run even without being installed, and that was my intent. I tried on my old Galaxy S5 mini and I could successfully run TWRP without rewriting recovery partition.
However, it turned out that bootloader unlocking is needed. No problem, I thought: I'll unlock it, backup system, and lock it again. But when I tried to switch the 'OEM unlock' item, a dialog appeared saying that my device would have been formatted and Samsung Knox services would stop working.
I was wondering:
- if I do enable OEM unlock and erase data, setting OEM unlock to off would reactivate Knox services?
- is there a way to actually unlock bootloader without erasing data?
- is there any hidden method to boot TWRP without unlocking bootloader?
- is there any better way to backup whole system and data?
I may have already partially answered the last question: using adb backup I backup as much data as possible, and by downloading OS image from Sammobile.com I have an OS backup. Can it work? If I decide to "restore" that kind of backup there would be any kind of data that would be lost during this particular roll back procedure?
Thanks in advance.

What is the easiest way to delete everything on the device except bootloader?
There are several reasons someone might want to do this
The device was compromised and I want to be sure there is not a root kit installed
To guarantee there are all persona files are removed before reselling the device
So it's then possible to see exactly what effect flashing an image has - where does the img file go to?
To see which parts of the custom rom must be installed before installing a custom rom
I guess the process could be:
Boot into bootloader
Flash TWRP
Boot into recovery
Root device
Open terminal
Delete everything that is not recovery or bootloader
Verify that everything is deleted
Boot into bootloader
Flash stock rom
Raises a lot of questions:
Is there already a .sh script that deletes everything? if not, would it be a lot of recursive file and directory deletes?
How do I make sure I don't damage bootloader and brick the device?
How do I confirm everything is deleted? I guess it's not possible to do ls / and see no files or directories, because at least the ls executable must exist and what else?
Maybe a rootkit could copy itself between bootloader/recovery/system. How can I make sure that does not happen?
Whenever a PC is infected, it is best-practice to reformat the hard drive and reinstall the OS from scratch, because otherwise you can never be sure the virus has really gone. How to do the same - or as close as possible - with Android?
Thanks!
Flash twrp, reboot to it and delete what you want. U don't need root.
Before unlocking bootloader'a you hadn't any virus or rootkit. It is impossible.

As already commented in the previous post, for deleting partitions from TWRP you don't need root.
On the other side, if you want to root (and delete partitions from Terminal emulator app), you don't need TWRP for that (you can root by Magisk without having TWRP)
And one more comment: You delete "everyrthing", so you delete Persist, and you loose Widevine L1 certificate.
(But your phone, your reasons to delete everything, so you probably know what and why you want to do)
