First of all, I would avoid CWM. Reason being, CWM never official supported this device. There are some unofficial CWM versions compiled for the M8, but they are all very old, and by definition will not be compatible with a great many firmware versions that came after.
Also, we need more info about your device. Do fastboot getvar all, and post the results (delete IMEI and serial number).
What versions of TWRP exactly did you try? Give us actual version numbers, as saying something like "many versions" doesn't give us the required specific information.

Hi,thank you for the reply.I flashed from a window pc and it flashed perfectly so phone is ok now.i was trying to flash it from my mac yesterday and it didnt work.I executed excatly the same steps in my pc as i did in my mac and the procedure went on.In mac whenever i typed " ./fastboot flash recovery crwp.img " it got stuck at " sending<> " .
In window i tryed flashing both cwm and trwp and it worked with both ,so i think its my mac fault.
Anyways thank you for the help and the reply.

Interesting, although I personally am only experienced with using a PC for phone mods; fastboot and adb should be agnostic (not matter) as to PC, Mac, or Linux. As long as you have the proper Google adb/fastboot package/drivers installed.
What version TWRP to use is still pretty dependent on the phone's firmware version, so if you need help identifying that, post your fastboot getvar all results, as indicated in my last reply. Flashing TWRP is one thing, but if you have a mismatched TWRP version, you may have trouble flashing ROMs, root, etc.

[Q]Bricked Desire...big time

Hello, I tried today to s-off my desire but failed so i gave up but ended up with the usb-brick issue, no problems here, lots of tutorials, but I accidentally updated my phone OTA from HTC and now I don't have amon-ra recovery anymore, only the android recovery which needs signed packages. I do have the SU app installed, so I guess my phone is still rooted, but I am unable to install a recovery in order to unbrick my phone. The only thing that is working is "fastboot", but can't flash a new rom, can't flash a new recovery.
Any ideas? I really don't want to sent my phone to a service...
LE: If I try to install any app from any source, including Market, my phone restarts, fast restarts actually...
tried unrevoked? this installs clockwork recovery mod.
or android flasher -attched
doesnt your phone needs to be ON with unrevoked? from there you must plug it in whith unrevoked opened on your PC.
But you can always try. I highly doubt your phone is unfixable, itll be allright.
Tried to re-root my phone but because my usb connection doesn't work anymore, the unrevoked program doesn't "see" my phone. The only thing that i need, in my opinion is an root explorer packed as a signed zip that the original android recovery can flash and i may be able to regain usb functionality.
you should try a differnt PC and do the process. I had a similar issue sometime back and when I changed the PC i was working on it worked.
That doesn't make much sense because the problem is in my phone, not in my computer...
Latest update: I prepared my phone for service, managed to flash a shipped rom without root, so there is no sign on it that I rooted it or flashed another custom rom/recovery. Still can't access the phone via usb so unrevoked still not a solution. Any new ideas before I say bye-bye to my Desire ?

You should try this :
- usb debugging mode ON
- install VWM ( virtual ware machine ) and boot with the .img of the hboot needed at http://alpharev.nl
- the device should be plugged and the aplharev hboot pushed with the last clockworkworld recovery
if not working, unfortunately not so many solutions but you still can try to unbrick the usb and then you will "unrevoked" easily your desire !
Take a look on alpharev developers chat for bricked phones
Hope it helps
My last piece of work

Nothing posted on xda or other android forums worked so today I handed my Desire to my carrier because I still have warranty . I hope they don't find any of my modifications , I did un-rooted it so it should be stock enough for them
Something I do not understand :
Last time I USB bricked my phone, I went to hboot, then fastboot, and entered the fastboot commande :
Code:
fastboot oem enableqxdm 0
as stated in many tuto.
This re-enables the USB, and then, you may again flash any recovery via unrevoked.
Actually that command re-enables the micro-sd controller, not the usb.

[Q] Having difficulties getting custom recovery to work

Hey guys!
My friend asked me to root is HTC Wildfire S, it has S-OFF and an unlocked bootloader (yay!). then I flashed (supposedly successfully) a custom recovery, but when I select RECOVERY on the HBOOT screen the device is stuck at the HTC logo and does nothing. I tried putting the zip with the weird name that HBOOT recognizes and it installs with no error. I also tried to flash it with fastboot which also writes the recovery partition with no error, but it still won't load the recovery. (Although when I try to "fastboot erase recovery" it fails saying: "FAILED (remote: not allowed)". I also tried both CWM and TWRP and neither of them worked. Anyone could help me get the custom recovery working? I also attached a image of the HBOOT screen if that helps. USB debugging is turned on, and fastboot is disabled in settings.

As I can tell of "Feb 8 2012" your WFS is 2012 edition
You need another recovery modded for the WFS
1.Download this
2.Extract it
3.Install it using CMD
thanks, it worked

[ SOLVED! ] HTC M9 Boot mode errors - Failed to boot to recovery mode

I'm trying to root my HTC M9 but I'm unable to boot into recovery mode. Whenever I try to boot into recovery mode to install SU I get the following error message:

I have been trying to follow this guide:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/one-m9/general/guide-root-install-twrp-htc-one-m9-t3061133
These are the steps that I have taken:
1) I have successfully unlocked the boot loader.
2) When I have the phone connected to the PC I have USB debugging mode enabled.
3) The 'adb devices' command confirms my phone can be detected when it's plugged in:
F:\Downloads\Android\ADB_Fastboot>adb devices
List of devices attached
FA54DYJ01014 device
4) I can successfully issue the 'adb reboot download' command and can successfully flash ther TWRP.img, I have downloaded and used the 'HTC One M9 (hima)' Twrp image found at https://twrp.me/Devices/:
F:\Downloads\Android\ADB_Fastboot>fastboot flash recovery twrp.img
sending 'recovery' (19912 KB)... OKAY [ 2.118s]
writing 'recovery'... INFOHOSD CL#573756
[email protected]
[email protected]%
INFOUpdate partition OK
[email protected]
OKAY [ 2.365s]
finished. total time: 4.483s
This is what I see on the phone:
http://www.picpaste.com/pics/IMAG0057.1460353787.jpg
5) I can power down the device and can reboot into the boot loader screen:
6) At this step things start to go a little bit pear shaped, i.e. wrong, when I try to use the 'adb push' command I get the following message:
F:\Downloads\Android\ADB_Fastboot>adb push BETA-SuperSU-v2.71-20160331103524.zip /sdcard
failed to copy 'BETA-SuperSU-v2.71-20160331103524.zip' to '/sdcard': Is a directory
OK fine, no problem, I just manually copied the zip file to the SD card.
7) Now I rebooted to the boot loader screen and this is where I get stuck, this is where I get the "Failed to boot to recovery mode" error when I choose to "Boot to download mode".
Some further information:
The device still boots up properly, i.e. I can boot into Android and use the phone like I normally would.
The phone is running Android v5.1, this is the problem I want to flash the phone to Android v6.0, and flash an Android Revolution HD or ViperOneM9 ROM.
The phone was purchased locally in Australia from JB HiFi. When I boot the phone and power the phone down it displays the Telstra logo.

A Google search and a search of this forum for "failed to boot to recovery mode" has failed to turn up any useful information.
I would really like to root my phone. Rignt now it seems impossible to root my phone. I am out of ideas. Does anyone have a fix or any more suggestions to try?
Which version of TWRP did you flash?
3.1 and 3.2 seems that they would have this symptom if your Android is not Android 6.
You can try TWRP 3.0 first.

Awesome! Thank you so much. I don't know why I didn't think to try an older version, rookie n00b mistake. I tried flashing v2.8.5.0 and it worked!
I have the same issue
after I reflashed it with an older version of TWRP it didn't work, do I have to remove the previous TWRP? and if yes then how?
So I'm guessing that download mode still worked for you? I have neither download or recovery mode...
i have the same problem with m9u, except mine doesn't reboot to android. it goes back to bootloader. i can select either of the options, bootloader, download mode, or recovery mode
the bootloader is unlocked, but S-ON ( for whatever reason cannot get s-off)
if i install a custom rom via twrp, say revolution hd... it says installed successfully but when i reboot it goes back to bootloader mode
i tried RUU from htc site but i get error 132
i tried 0PJAIMG.zip via sd card but i get an error :
"Security checking failed NOT_FIND_SMART IO
Failed: -2, 12: fail to flash via download zip
press power to continue"
LE: it finally worked but only with an older version (0PJAIMG_HIMA_UHL_L50_SENSE70_HTC_Europe_1.32.401.15_R1_Radio_01.01_U11440261_56.02.50306G_2_F_release_426891_signed.zip)
the initial problem was that the phone was not updating from 5.1.1, apparently now is downloading an update
Having this issue as well.

I have no bootloader that I'm aware of..

My phone: Asus Zenfone 3 Deluxe NON PRO with the snapdragon 820 2.15ghz CPU..
When I try to enter fastboot mode my phone just goes nowhere and sits there. If I hard reset the phone it turns on again.. Calls and works but take one picture with camera and it shuts off.. gets the picture oddly.
Ive installed ADB on my PC and I'm about to start seeing if I can talk to the phone in fastboot even though the phone itself shows nothing at all. This happened during a failed upgrade and has NOT been able to upgrade since. I'm on 6.0 still.. failed 7.0
My question: Is there a certain way I should attempt to flash the files using ADB? I do have the RAW files from Asus support..
I'm going to post a couple pictures and a short video if needed to make this easier to understand for anyone reading this, I'm just going to try some simple commands first in ADB and see if the phone responds first. I have a feeling this could make everything much much easier if it does.
Try to enter fastboot or flash from here?
I have no recovery that I know of my phone goes totally dead when its in recovery mode and doesn't seem to respond to anything at all BUT.. When I plug in a cable it makes the connecting sound over the PC.. I'm about to try a few different scenarios of trying to enter fastboot other than manually with the side buttons but if that doesn't work what are my odds of repairing my file system from this state? I can get into MOST of the files in the LS.. but not all I do not have root access but I can get into pretty much everything else just FYI. If anyone has any questions or advice feel free to chime in at anytime.
I got into fastboot using command.
I assume its pretty straight forward from here I'll just post the steps I'm about to take or links to what guide or guides I follow just in case anyone else suffers from this in the future.
I used the commands in the following order :
adb devices (to start the server)
adb shell (to get connected to the phone)
reboot bootloader (to reboot into fastboot)
When the phone rebooted it looked stuck on the Asus logo but once it settled I tried the command :
fastboot devices (BAM it showed up instantly)
Now I have downloaded some RAW STOCK and TWRP files I'm I'm planning to restore my factory 6.0 ROM.
If this is successful then I plan to make a backup... and then sleep before I play more lol

Unable to root Honor 7x (BND-AL10)

As getting raspberryPI is impossible now a days, i wanted to use my old device(Honor 7x) like one by installing PostmarketOS on it.
Got successful in Unlocking the bootloader. But not able to root it. Will walk though all the steps and tries i did so far.
If i have posted this question in the wrong place or without out proper tag, please let me know, i will change it asap.
Device : Honor 7x (BND-AL10)
Android Version : 9
EMUI Version : 9.1.0
Build number : 9.1.0.168(C675E7R1P1)
Bootloader unlocking process (Success):The Huawei's site, where it asks for device id, imei number etc is no more alive, so i looked out and tried various other methods. Finally landed on PotatoNV.
I removed my back cover, found my devices test point, shorted them, ran potatoNV and it worked, I got the message as `bootloader unlocked` on the bootloader screen.
Rooting process (Failure):Downloaded various twrp recovery image that i found from the twrp site and also from the forums various threads from xda and tried to flash using fastboot
adb reboot bootloader
Click to collapse
to get the device into bootloader mode
it failed when i tried to flash the twrp recovery image using
fastboot flash recovery twrp_recovery.img
Click to collapse
later found my device is "A only" recovery partition type and also for my device the partition was different, so the following command was successful in writing the recovery image to the mentioned partition
fastboot flash recovery_ramdisk twrp_recovery.img
Click to collapse
After the writing was successful, i issued
fastboot reboot
Click to collapse
soon after hitting enter on the above command, i removed the cable and tried to enter fastboot mode by press and hold on Volume Up + Power button.
And got this "ERROR MODE 11 recovery image 2 load failed".

Spent 3 weeks in trying out most solutions from this form and from blog posts, im unable to install twrp recovery image to root it. After multiple attempts of flashing twrp recovery image.
Update:
1. Tried to convert using "Magisk app". and later tried to flash this recovery image into the device. still the same "ERROR MODE 11 recovery image 2 load failed".
Then, tried to directly boot through the recovery image without flashing into the device with
fastboot boot twrp_recovery.img
Click to collapse
FAILED (remote: 'invalid command')
fastboot: error: Command failed
2. Tried using "Huawei Multi tool" with the same twrp recovery images, unable to install twrp and root my device.
Need Help Please!!!
