Any change adding an ability to follow sub-forums (e.g. https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/apps-games) via RSS syndicate feeds? I would be very handy to catch latest updates / posts on forums.
Thx.
Any follow-up on this? Quite a few requests...
Seems this (follow sub-topics via RSS) is not an option or enabled in the forum sub-topics.

** Cough ** Make a WIKI entry/page linked off the main Hermes page ** Cough **
I mean this would make more sense as it will be easier to maintain and users wouldn't have to scroll through pages of unrelated posts to get to what they want or are looking for.
Just a suggestion.
Hermes Wiki & Search method stickies belong on top af ALL Hermes pages.
On the MAIN Hermes page, MDAIIIUser placed this info & it's a sticky. Excellent.
Hermes Wiki LINK: http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Hermes
The other fantastic sticky by mikechannon on the Hermes main page is detailed info on Search methods to use on this website!

Thanks Zzan for your comment. (Licorice is a good natural remedy for coughing, haha.)
Can anyone provide these answers before I ever risk installing this:
What are the origins of this "Official" ROM to make it be classed as an "Official" HTC ROM as there is nothing mentioned on HTC support website?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
1) Also, as a suggestion could the ROM list page (http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index...inity_Upgrades) be updated to reflect the flurry of recent releases of ROMs in the forum over the last few weeks inc. this one?
2) Which of these is the correct one to use on for upgrading from Orange SPV M700 Wm5 as after reading the threads I have: TRIN_WM6.rar, TRIN_WM6_FLASHER.rar, Official_WM6.rar.
3) If there are patches / upgrades required for this e.g. HTC_VideoCallPatch_vX.cab, Microsoft_Office_Mobile_6.1.cab could I suggest they be all be culminated on a special page for this ROM if this is to be the baseline ROM for future developments / tweaks as these files are scattered all over the forum at present.
4) Any chance an experienced flasher could create a "Step by Step Guide" from an Orange SPV M700 Wm5 locked to an WM6 Official install (inc. Orange Settings / Customisations etc.) unlocked that includes creating a ROM backup of your own phone prior to installing, so you can switch back? - I have read the posts / threads and have yet to find a definitive page on all this.
Just a thought..... as it would help novices and cut down posts to relevant questions and not the same old inquiries.
Cheers

Yeah we noob need some steb by steb guide(for vista though)
it was stated in the first mention of this rom that the poster wouldn't be answering questions about it.. so there's not much people can tell you about where it came from, etc.
the cabs may or may not be accumulated because there's nothing to suggest that this ROM will be the basis of future developments. The build is older than current WM6 ROMs on this forum.. better read a bit more to get the big picture.
can't tell you which one is the right .rar file to flash, but you won't find a step by step guide. Essentially, go get hard-spl and run the RUU to install it on your phone. Then manually enter the bootloader and while connected via USB run the RUU for the ROM you want to flash.
I don't use vista, so can't say much about the connection problems but there are MANY MANY posts about it, so i suggest you get searching.
happy flashing
I have just update Wiki (Cavalier Section). You can now download there cabs, tweaks and BBC among others.
So, please check it time by time and especialy before you post a question.

I've got to say that these directions on this website are some of the hardest to follow. I think that the xda-developer website should be maintained as a wiki rather than a forum (or at least the main section should be a wiki). When I go to wikipedia, I don't have to sift through twenty posts to find out the history of 'Nevada' or the chemical makeup of 'acetaminophen.'
I understand that this web site is made for experts, but I've got to say that I've found many others who have scoured the website for information specific to their particular situation and gotten lost because that information is sandwiched between two threads and then between two other posts. Then they start a new thread and get chastised for posting about an issue that has already been hammered out in another post.
Conversely, I find that the simple instructions--like those found on youtube--simplify the instructions too much. The instructions work great for a select few, but most people run into problems during the install and have to turn to xda-developer to find more information.
A wiki would solve both of these problems. First, it would eliminate the knee-jerk reaction of noobies to just post their problem without reading. They would only be allowed to post to the forum if their particular problem wasn't resolved in the wiki. And if a lot of noobies kept posting about a problem that's already been solved, it would be up to the editors of the wiki to tweak the article to minimize confusion.
Secondly, with a bunch of experts working together to simplify the complex information means that they could have simple instructions with specific links for the situations where those instructions would not work. Some of the forum posts are like this, but they are few and far between.
The wiki that currently exists is mainly for information about the phones, not detailing instructions for development.
The reason I decided to rant was that my wife asked me to root her NookColor 1.3.0 and I proceeded to gather data on this process. I went to this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1054027 and started reading the instructions for 1.3. It stated "2. Copy onto your flashable CWM SD card using Windows Explorer." I asked myself "How do I get a flashable CWM SD Card?" After some snooping, I found the instructions above 1.3 (in 1.2) where it stated "CWM Bootable from SD Card: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=987735"
I followed the link and it was this next page that got me. It has 6 different links to different versions of CWM, instructions regarding uRecImg and uImage files (I do not know what these are) and an admission in the first paragraph that the author will no long actively edit the thread. If this were a wiki, someone else could take the baton.
Please write back, as I'd love to hear from the community. I'm sure there's a plus to the forums; however, so far I haven't seen it.
The issue is that if anyone can edit content, then it cannot be trusted or treated as reliable...
Trolls could easily adjust commands so they would break devices.
The only way to let people see how reliable content is, is to ensure it is only editable by the named author, with their profile showing previous details to help decide if they are reliable or not...

If you come to a forum like XDA it should be to learn, which involves a lot of reading and depending what it is and on what device you wish to do it, a lot of practising. The answer to the question I've quoted is on the first page of your first link, which is why its always a good idea to read the first few pages of a thread, as certain things that aren't understood in the OP are answered in the first few pages.

Hi there,
I am a recent newbie user here and I don't master at all the features in the site.
I try to understand what is Android, how to use and custom it and what I can change in my phone.
Very often I need to find the definition of a word or howtos, etc. However I can't find a good way to search a words, a group of words in a thread or a device forum.
I know there is a thread for some words but I can't for example find what is safetynet in the xda context, this word has plenty usages in the Internet.
Could you help me? Thanks.
