I was wondering if this is a temporary problem, (before it appends sometimes) but now, my phone never "Fast Charges".
I'm using the cable and charger that's in the original box.
Is there any solution to this?
My phone: No root, security patch June 5, latest beta update.
How many different outlets have you tried it in? Also, I had an issue with fast charging as well on the P beta so I came back to Oreos.
I only have the issue with the pixel on the beta, the other one that I have in the normal build works like a charm (same charger).
Have no idea if this is a known bug...

I'm sure everyone would be reporting it if it were. Very strange though. Why not try another charger out of curiosity to see if it works with it? I'd be interested to see if it did
I am having the same problem since the latest Android P/9 upgrade. Charges slowly with different OEM chargers.
May be placebo. Just because you don't get the notification doesn't mean it's not fast charging. Only way to really know is download ampere and compare charging rates to a phone that does report fast charging.
My phone doesn't get any type of message anymore after certain mods, however, my phone still charges at roughly 3.0 amps
Hello,
I can confim this issue.
Google Pixel with Android P Beta 3 is not fast charging.
I tested it with a power meter and it showed 8 Watts, which is very low compared to fast charging which uses 18 Watts.
Before I joined the beta program it worked just fine.
Using default power brick btw.
Can also confirm it's not working on DP3. Doesn't matter charge level, cable or power block it's only drawing about 500ma to 800ma. It is agonizingly slow. Fell asleep waiting for some power. Woke up from the nap and thought, "Alright, it's gotta be at 100%." Nope just 53%
Sent from my Pixel XL using Tapatalk
No problems here, both before and after DP3 OTA and then a factory reset to clear up some fingerprint scanner issues.
EDIT: Try a backup and factory reset...
I figured mine out, I think. I'm assuming there is some type of thermal throttling in the Quickcharge spec, I haven't looked.
It's hot where I live and the aluminum back on the phone seems to absorb every bit of heat when I go outside. It's about 100°F (38°C) at 8:20PM so it never really cools off. When I'm back inside it takes a while to cool off especially if I put it on a charger.

So the only solution it's a factory reset? :/
Can anyone confirm that the factory reset does in fact bring fast charging back? I've had about enough slow charging.
Seriously considering getting out of the preview program to get fast charging back. As someone said, it's not just slow, it is excruciatingly slow!
I'm curious myself if a factory reset fixes it or not. The regular charging is way too slow.
Can confirm this on DP4. Has anyone figured this out? It's driving me nuts. I'm about to flash back to Oreo despite P being the most meaningful Android version upgrade in recent years.
Factory reset didn't solve it for me either.
Fast charging works while charging from my wife's pixel 2 charger. And her phone Fast charges too while using my charger.

Same boat here... Last week with my wife charger started fast charging, but not with mine...
Flashing Android P DP5 has not fixed this. Admittedly, I have flashed using flashall.bat without the "-w" in order to avoid a complete wipe. However, I can't imagine this is relevant to this issue as this isn't a dirty flash, but cleanly replacing the prior OS. So what's up?
I read on another forum booting into safe mode and charging will restore the fast charging. I did it and it worked for my Essential phone. Boot to safe mode and charge for a bit and reboot and it should be working again. The post said if not leave it in safe mode till fully charged and then reboot.

I figure you got it already so before anyone else asks. From the very first search result on Google.
With the device powered on, press and hold the*Power button*(located on the right-edge) until the Power off prompt appears then release.
Touch and hold*Power off*until the Reboot to safe mode prompt appears then release.
Tap*OK*to confirm.*The restart process may take up to 45 seconds to complete.
Upon restart, "Safe mode" appears in the lower-left of the unlock/home screen.
Now you're in Safe Mode.

After the latest update my M9 charges very slow. It takes 6 hours or even more than that, even with the Rapid Charger 2.0
If I reboot my device before before I charge it, then it charges normally, in under 2 hours.
Any solutions?
I am trying to fing out where the problem is, and I suspect GSAM Battery Monitor Pro and maybe an app called Screen Adjuster that might somehow interfere.
I have an unbranded device and it runs the official firmware.
Is anybody else having the same issue?
Have you tried wiping the cache and recalibrating the battery by holding both volume buttons and power button at the same time for over a minute?
No, I haven't. Are there any other issues I should expect if I recalibrate the battery?
Have the same issue .. S-OFF, ARHD 8.1, Firmware 1.40.401.8
No solution yet :/
So it must be the new firmware. This is really bad. I have cleared the cache but I don't really see the point of recalibration. If I restart my device before charging, it always charges after the reboot normally...
I disabled GSAM yesterday and the screen adjuster app, but the problem remains. I wonder, is there anybody out there running the new firmware without this issue?
Same issue here. Stock non-rooted ROM, stock firmware, S-Off, unlocked BL.
Had also the same issue with 1.40.401.5, thought it would be fixed in the official update (1.40.401.8). It appears it's not... Bad news when an update supposed to solve issues brings new ones...
With 1.40,my charging is way quicker with a quick charge 2.0 adapter. GSam battery monitor reports higher ampere and a battery change ~80%/h now (from empty to 85% as usual). Before this, battery change stalled quickly but now it's stable.
Did you factory reset your device after the update?
Same problem here.
No factory reset after the update. Should I? Or is there another way?
I did a factory reset when I first noticed problem with slow charging. At first it seemed to work and it charged normal speed but now its back to slow.
My M9 will only charge when i turn it off, plug it in the ac. If its on, even though the indicator says its charging, it doesnt, help.
The update was supposed to improve (quick) charging... Instead it made it worse ;(
I'm curious if there is anyone who does not have this problem...

With the original charger?
Mine charges a bit faster with the quick charger, but only after a full reboot. And only once, after disconnecting the charger it reverts back to verrry slow charging when connected again.
I've the same issue. All stock, latest firmware.
Unless i reboot the device, it takes 8 hours to charge. If i reboot it before plug in, it takes about 2 hours.
Something is wrong were...
Same problem here but it is intermittent. I plugged my phone in earlier and it charged 10% in 1.5h on a 2A charger. So annoying!!!!
This is a big issue for me since I cannot rely on my M9 to get me through the day without having a charger with me. I am going to stop using my M9 till the problem gets solved somehow. Sorry HTC but this is a big issue for me and despite the fact that I love HTC products, I cannot ignore this issue. Back to my iPhone...
I agree on the Factory Reset, I do it every time I take a OTA update. It's jus my practices as it solved issues in the past and I kinda stick to it...

no its a real bug, regardless of the charger, when it appears only a reboot solves it
anyway the 5.1 / 2.x update is close but yea bug like that will cause serious hurt
I update the system to the Official MM update the other day, then proceeded to take a few hours to install all my apps.
After like 1 hour the phone can't fast charge anymore and isn't recognized by the PC at all so I can't root it or install a custom ROM to check if it's a firmware problem.
Also, when the device is completely turned off, and when it's plugged to the fast charger, it should still quickcharge yes? There should be a "lightning bolt and +" in the battery icon yes? I remember this being the case, can someone please confirm?
I did actually drop the phone before I noticed this, and I wondering if the drop might have caused it, but I kinda doubt it since I've dropped it many times before.
SORRY FOR THE LONG POST! Does anyone have any idea what's going on?

seems problem related to firmware... try to factory restore firmware. i am on MM and have no issue with fast charging. more over it is not necessary to show any sign of fast charging. just keep your phone on charge. and try to figure out how much you are able to charge in how much time..
please also comment which method you used to update to MM

I also hope it's firmware related >< because I think the warranty is already over for my device. The device is currently dead so I'm charging it to make it alive again. Could you show me what your battery icon looks like when charging when the phone is off?
Mine looks like this https://goo.gl/photos/A1mR3fhgEBjCHfVv8
I updated by using Asus flash tool to downgrade from CM13 to STOCK .194, then I used ADB to sideload onto the device, seems ok?

I have no issues with fast charge on mm ww134.
Try another cable or/and fast charge plug since u have factory reset?
I also don't get any problem with fast charging either. Make sure you're using stock charger (although I use it with another USB cable since my stock USB cable was broken).

A bad usb cable will cause phone not to kick into fast charge mode. Possibly a damaged usb charge port on your phone from the drop.
I has some cheap Aukey cables that did this often. Wiggle the micro usb end and it would fast charge. Wiggle more and I get "unsupported charger" error.

Greetings all, I've been a longtime reader of xda, but never a poster. As this is my first post. After upgrading to Nougat I now have issues with fast charging. 98% of the time when I plug in my charger, it will switch between fast charging and charging in one second intervals with vibration. If it does decide to "fast charge", it will charge at regular speed while displaying fast charge. HOWEVER, It fast charges as normal with the phone powered off. I tried new high quality micro usb's and trying different fast charging samsung adapters, and doing a factory data reset. I have tried toggling fast charging in settings too. It seems to be software related. I am assuming there aren't any custom Nougat roms yet, as I cant find them here. Has anyone heard or experienced this, and have any tricks to try? Thanks in advance!
I've been having issues after installing Nougat where occasionally it will go from charging to not charging back and forth about five to ten times intermittently, though I have noticed some issues with fast charging as well.
@grandomegabosses That is exactly the issue I am having. When it does finally settle down it will tell me ridiculous amount of time to complete full charge, like 1.5 hours when I'm already at 20%. If you see the same, try charging with phone off... It should be WAY faster... Thank for your reply.
I had issues a few times where my phone was really hot after being on the charger for an hour or so just to find out that it only charged up 10% or 15% more than it was when I put it on the charger. This happened to me once with it powered off...my phone only charged to 79% when it should have had plenty of time to reach full. Powering off the phone before charging seems to help 99% of the time. Hoping my S6 gets updated again, or they'll forget about us and it'll catch on fire one day. Sad we still can't get updates from directly from Google compiled in a cloud based server @ Samsung with appropriate kernel and have a flashable package of Samsung Apps and interfaces, that could be downloaded from your Samsung account and verified by Knox. We'd be on Android Oreo already if it were setup that way...
Okay, so I did have this issue, but I've easily solved the issue by flashing stock via Odin. Nand erase all, I did an efs clear just because. Also, checked the phone bootloader update. But after that, everything worked perfect.

As the titles states, my phone doens't want to charge the first time I plug it to the original charger. It can stay for hours without charging 1%. I have to reboot and then it'll charge fine. I called google support and they told me it will be fixed in the next updates. Anyone else is having those problems? I just return it if it's just me.
I've had weirdness with charging for sure. Seemingly mostly with the charger that came with it. Mine will say "5 minutes until charged," but I'll be at like 86%. If I unplug and let it settle for a second, it will go back to 84% or whatever, then seems fine when I plug it back in again.
I've been using this Magqi charging dock and magnetic pad and it's been hit or miss. Sometimes just fine, other times won't charge at all. Wife is having the same problem. We both have a Pixel 2 XL.

ok it happened to me before (you clicked something by mistake )
just go to settings -system- developer options -select usb configuration- charging
if this doesn't work
maybe it is something else
I didn't turn on nothing by mistake, it's just not charging. I did a factory reset and seems to work fine until now ( charged just one time ). I'll update the thread if it happens again. I think something was messed up during the November update. I hope it's just a software bug because it's really annoying to reboot the phone Everytime
It happened again after factory reset. It's quite annoying
I've had mine 4 days and it happened to me the first time this morning.
To fix it I turned the phone off, started charging whilst off and then turned back on. Luckily it was back to charging correctly.
I today I now have the slow charging issue (on the supplied charger)
I ran the battery down fully last night and put it on charge at 2 am.
When I left for work at 6:30 am the battery had only charged to 67%, that's 4.5 hours.
Given all the other posts concerning this subject it does not seem uncommon
Yeah just got my phone last night and its happening for me too. Will charge for a minute or two then stops. Going to try the charge while off deal mentioned above and see what happens.
It's quite annoying for me... I hope Google is going to fix this soon. Seems like a software bug
Here is what happens with me.
I have the stock charger with a 6.5' Cable Creations C to C cable.
Any charges that happen with my battery lower than 30%, I have to constantly watch it to make sure it's charging.
If not, I have to unplug and replug. This happens several times between 0-30%
After 30, it seems to pick up fine..
Edit: Forgot to mention, when below 30%, it stops charging because, I take the power off it and all the sudden, it loses 2-3%
Sent from my Pixel 2 XL
Not sure I've seen a situation where the supplied charger didn't charge the phone at all like some have mentioned, but it definitely seems a lot slower than the charging time for the Pixel XL. It's offset in a big way by the much improved battery life I guess, but it certainly doesn't feel like quick charge, at least by 2017 standards.
However when I use the charger that came with my Pixel C, It charges noticeably quicker. I know the Pixel C never sold in huge numbers, and I haven't run any comparison tests here, but has anyone else that owns one noticed better performance with its charger compared to the one that was bundled with their Pixel 2 XL?

Tried Nexus 5x stock charger and it didnt do anything. Not sure whats wrong with our chargers, my Pixel 2 XL always goes to 98%max maybe 99%. Another weird thing that happend. I decided to fully discharge my phone until it shut off for the first cycle(first day I got it to calibrate battery). When I plugged the OEM charger in it showed the symbol that it doesnt have enough power to turn on(needs to charge to 5% or whatever it is), waited 1 hr, 2 hrs same thing. Unplugged, plugged back in, hard reset, bootloader and nothing. Same symbol. Only way to get it back charging was to use a cheap USB A to C cable I got from walmart, plug that into my Nexus 6 charger base and it finally started charging...??? WTF
Same issue
Looks like this is an issue with the November security patch.
Same thing has happened to me on my Pixel 2 XL and i have three different official Type C wall chargers from google (6p, XL (1st gen) and they will not work, however it will work with the quick charge connector in my car (Type A to Type C).
Reviewing the internet other people have the same issue and all seem post November update. I did a factory reset etc to troubleshoot with no luck.
Only thing i have yet to attempt is enroll for the android beta program and force update to 8.1 to see if it resolves the issue.
i live in Dubai and i don't have official support from google nor am i able to contact them, if some one could kindly post an update if they have tried contacting google and got a confirmation that its a S/W issue.
Bump.
Sooo, I woke up last night and saw a message on my phone that said something like, your device is corrupt, etc. Now my phone will not charge... The phone seems fine otherwise, everything seems to work, no more errors or anything, but, two stock pixel 2 chargers and neither charge the phone. However, if I plug it into a computer, it charges. Anyone have any idea of what is going on? I've rebooted, cleared cache from apps (not from twrp though), nothing seems to help.
About my phone: April update, unlocked, rooted stock. The only things I'm running are substratum with the swift dark theme, pixel launcher mods for Virus icon pack, viper audio mod, adaway, greenify, things like that. Nothing major with the exception of the theme. I even disabled/uninstalled the theme and rebooted. The problem is still there. Unless I get this fixed ASAP, I guess I'm calling Google for a replacement...

Almost sounds like a hardware/port issue. About the only 2 things I could suggest is...1. Fastboot the factory image again with the -w flag removed. 2. Factory reset, which, as you know, bites because you have to set everything up again.

Your description exactly matches my issue with a week old Pixel 2. It won't charge using OEM charger below 30% battery. I have to reset the phone, sometimes reboot works but not all the time. Even safe mode won't work done times. It's frustrating.

I'm having charging issues that started when I installed Android P. At times when the phone is plugged in either to wall charger or car charger it indicates it's charging but actually isn't. Only solution I found was to reboot. I should note this only an Android P issue for me, Oreo didn't exhibit this problem. Battery percentage doesn't matter, it could be at 25% or 95% so I'm thinking my issue is just a P beta bug.
Anyone got a solution to this issue?
Hey, so i just received the android 10 update. I was already running the android 10 beta for some time now. After the update, my wall charger (Tronsmart, type C with PD) stopped working. I was able to rapid charge my pixel with the same charger earlier, but now it simply stopped charging. I used 3 different type C to type C cables with that power brick, but pixel doesnt get charged whatsoever. I tried using some cables that i had lying around, which are not really the top of the line kind of things but still usually get the job done. These are usb C to A cables that I have used previously with my pixel. However, after the update, the phone shuts down within a couple of minutes, if i connect any of those cables. I searched around and some people have had the same issue after android 9 beta update. Using an old toothbrush, i gently cleaned the charging port, but nothing changed. Right now, i am finally able to charge phone with my PC using an old type C to A cable that shipped with my old HTC 10. However, my computer says usb device not recognized and as you`d expect, its charging pretty slowly. I even tried resetting the phone but the problem
Any ideas as to what might have caused this? Any help in this regard is greatly appreciated.
TIA

My wife noticed the same thing on her 3a since the update
I also experienced the same problem since i upgraded to android 10. Been roaming google for possible solution, found nothing so far except rolling back to android 9 or wait for an update to fix this bug.
I charges my phone with a usb a to c cable using a power delivery compatible brick (18w, 3A), it is able to fast charge my pixel.

I had to RMA my first phone due to this issue. If you google search pixel 2 xl charging issues you'll find many people who have run into this issue. All of them pretty much end with "RMA phone".
It started out my third-party charger would reboot my phone the moment it was plugged in. My original charger stopped charging the phone soon after.
My computer would only sometimes (1 out of 15 - 20 tries) read my phone so I could unroot it. All of the other times it would pop up as unrecognized.
This is typically due to a hardware issue (loose/damaged port circuitry because of bad quality components or soldering). It gets worst and worst 'til nothing works and phone reboots when you connect the cable... and RMA is the only solution.
IMHO, mainstream usb-c operating amperage is too hard on the ports, specially due to heating. I would prefer to have a not so fast charging technology that would not damage the phones. And yes, this happens on many usb-c phones, not only Pixels.
But hey, maybe you have a different problem related to software
My phone is powering down sometimes, when i plug the charging cable. This happend after android Q update.

Rotating the USB-C cable helps. One orientation (no charging / or slow charging at best) the other orientation rapid charging.
Sadly it appears a number of our phones appear to be having charge port issues as they age...

Not sure if it's because I recently flashed the latest 10 factory image (2 days ago) but my device charges on all the cables, chargers and on the PC as it did prior to flashing the 10 factory image, I even get the charging rapidly notification...
Did this happen immediately to those who are experiencing it? Or did it happen after some time on 10?
Well, glad I came across this thread. I've been having troubles with charging in the last few days also.
TL;DR: Starting this past Sunday, my chargers would report "charging slowly" and not really charge the phone, whether in normal mode, safe mode, or off. Updated to 10 on release day. They all magically started working last night.
Story version: Woke up Sunday and pulled my Pixel 2 XL off the charger to find it at the same percentage battery was when I plugged it in. When I plugged it back in, it reported charging slowly. It's plugged into an Anker USB C to A, and the Anker IQ two port charger. My Wife's PIxel 2 was plugged into the other port, with another of the same cable. It was charging fine. I unplugged hers and plugged mine in, reported charging slowly. I grabbed my Anker battery pack, and used the included USB C to A cable that I've used before, got "charging slowly." I rebooted the phone and got the same results. I powered it down and left it charging, same results. I tried safe mode, same thing. All these chargers/cables/battery packs work perfectly fine on my Wife's Pixel 2.
I was in the car and tried my cable/adapter in there. That one worked. I have a CableMatters 2.0 amp lighter adapter and an Anker braided USB C to A cable. I brought the cable and phone in the house, and tried the cable with my existing Anker 2 port wall charger and it worked. Weird why it would work for my Wife's but not mine, but oh well, at least I could charge the phone. Later on, I took the car cable and connected to the battery pack, charging slowly. I brought it back to the Anker wall charger, charging slowly. Tried my laptop and PC USB 3.0 ports, charging slowly. I brought the car cable and the house cable back to the car, and both cables worked just fine in the car. So, at this point, it doesn't appear to be a cable issue, but something intermittent with my chargers.
I dug up a Monoprice USB A charger I had, that has a 2.0 amp port. Tried that last night, and every cable I have charged normally with it. Just to further test, I then took the cables back to the Anker wall charger, and it worked also. To make it more frustrating, the Anker battery pack also started playing nicely and charging. I feel like it's a software issue with the phone, but I have no viable proof of it. I upgraded to 10 on launch day and have had no issues since. The only other thing I did was install Accubattery after I had an idea to try and monitor charging rates.
I did the October 2019 update and noticed this morning zero charging over night. I use an Anker multi-port brick with 2-ports fast charging. Thanks for the Accubattery idea. It shows 1 Amp charging off the 2.4 amp port. I may have to roll back the October update if I can.
I have noticed over the last few months that the screen uses a huge amount of battery. I can see the percentage drop as I scroll through the news.
Guysss I found the solution ! I had the same problem but this easy fix helped me ! Hope it's gonna work for you.
First you have to drain your battery to 1 or 2 %
Second step, hard reboot your phone (long press lock for 10 s)
As it's without battery it won't reboot but it will show the low battery sign.
Plug in your fast charger and it will show the sign that it's charging, wait a few seconds, boot your phone without unplugging the cable. And that's it. It should work.
I can't believe in so happy it got fixed for me I was suffering for two weeks after the update and no response from Google. The firs time in long time I see 70%>>>

Update : if you don't want to wait for your battery to drain, you can do this instead.
Long press volume down and power for 10 sec.
It will take a screen shot (normal) but wait for the 10 sec.
You will have a menu, choose using the volume up and down to navigate "power off" ( by default it will be power on).
Plug your fast charger and it should start charging

ive tried doing the second option and i never get a menu, it just straight up reboots.
my problem seems to be similar to those stated here before. i cant use my original charger that came with my pixel.
i can use the usb c port on this (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0778JNN4B/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1) with any of the cables i have. none of the cables will allow me to use the original charge brick anymore. i can use the only usb c -> a cable that i have. (its the standard one that comes with the nintendo switch pro controller) i even tested with the nintendo switch dock cable and it seems to work fine. i am outside of warranty so i cant have google fix it any longer(literally started issues 20 days after my warranty ended...). im gonna try draining it down till it dies and try my original charger again to see if it will do it but i was wondering if anyone else has come up with any other solutions to this problem. im thinking about reflashing it to see if that will do it and if that doesnt maybe go to a custom rom to test that even just wondering if anyone else has tried these options so i can have an idea if its gonna possibly work for me or not
hi man.
So weird you couldn't get that menu, try holding for 20 seconds instead of 10 seconds. It should work keep doing it until the phone goes off completely.
Trust me I did it again and it worked. Every time fast charging stops working I do this trick and it works.

idk, i have tried holding it even past the point of it turning off and still no menu, but i finally got it to die completely and it still didnt seem to be working on the chargers i was having issues with, after going for a ride in my car and using AA oddly enough it seems to be working fine, no idea.
Try holding the UP volume button and power.
Mine just started doing this, I left it plugged into the plane the whole trip flying overseas. (Probably shouldn't have done that)
