Holy moly! My cell just called itself! It showed my number and it said Incoming Voicemail! So, I don't know if I should I have, I picked up and didn't say anything and it seemed like the sound on the "other side" was where I was at.
Think someone needs to go to bed earlier JK
Rather bizzare and never heard of phones calling themself except in rather bizare horror movies.
Could have just been some freak call of nature, could have been a problem with carrier....
If your worried hard-reset device not that i think it will help but may put your mind @ rest, if happens again after i'd phone your carrier to ask why your phones is calling you? "try not to laugh when calling"
I'm sorry to make humour but i just had so many funny visuals soon as read it.
Get some sleep all will be well
I know its funny man but I found this so far.
Seems like other T-Mobile people had this issue.
http://forums.wirelessadvisor.com/t-mobile-users/61805-phone-calls-itself-defective-sim-card.html
I told my friend, he started to crack up!
How do you turn off the Paging Notification Options in the Dash? That seemed to have fixed things for these guys.
UPDATE: This is weird. I called the Voicemail, went on my Paging notifications and it says they are turned off. Yet, I still got the call? Anyone...
You remind with my Dash, i have the same issue for very long time, immediatly after reciving a voice mail my phone rinngs twice and stops, recently i flashed my phone to the latest 6.5 WM and i did not see this issue anymore. What causing it??? God knows.
Probably a flashing error with the RADIO. That, or some essential program for making calls is malfunctioning due to a bad flash. I honestly see no other reason for this than a bad flash. The ROMs are designed by our master-chefs to work well. Any glitches that a small percentage of people have are usually flash-related. The solution...REFLASH! I know i have had to do this because I have gotten funky results.
*this also taught me that when they say "Do not touch the link line", they really mean don't touch it at all. I have made a habit of stepping away from the desk when flashing haha, but that is just the very worried me *
I had the same situation long time ago
My excalibur called itself!
It never repeated but it was an unsolved strange problem
I never touched anything when flashing but its weird that its something flash related because everything works fine other than this and I called my voicemail, my paging notifications are off!
So I flashed it back to stock ROM, still getting the calls. I pick up, I say HELLO? And Jigsaw voice from SAW movies says, DIE! You will die in 5 days... or something like that. No joke, I heard that SAW had something on their site to prank call people but they took it down. I wonder if some dumb person I know is pranking me. Anyone had or know about this?

Just feel off my chair you made my day
I so hope that you are providing comedy here and not being a realist
Sorry if i take you wrong way
I am not kidding man. I called my buddy and Googled it, there are many sites that prank call. I also read that the SAw website had something where you could prank people and they to take it down. Guess what! First time I got the call it was Oct 23. Guess when SAW VI came out... OCT 23! So, I hope that is it. I think I know who did it, but not 100% sure. Just wanted to know if you guys heard about these things.
hmm, i think theres a hole in your story... your first post says October 19th not 23rd. haha but funny nonetheless.

Yep it's just a plug for SAW VI
ah damn i wish i knew about this before the website got closed. lol
What do you mean a plug?
I am pretty sure I got the call Oct 23 because I even circled it on my calendar.
Either way, I am still gonna call T-Mobile.

A plug is advertising generally dropped in when on different subject. 'google will give a better definition'
Good luck with t-mo and hope they make more sense of it than us, i'm baffled untill today i was thinking same as you linked, now i just got a comedy sketch similar to Crazy Movie in my head
Still alive! Thank God!
Man, i am sooo royally pissed off. ill try to shorten this story on what happened. Ok. im on the internet earlier in the day with no problem. then a storm rolled thru here and seemed to knock out my data service. i couldnt connect to internet at all. In WM and in Android. i was booting into Android when i realized data had went out. after doing all i could do, wit no success, i called customer service.
they kept sending me in damn circles, asking questions that has nuthn to do with the problem. so after goin in circles and talkin to this person and that person, they finally realize that they r stupid and transfer me to a tech person. we trouble shoot. still no internet wrkn. damn.. so they said last resort is to take my sim card out and put it in another AT&T phone. this is to determine if its a service problem or a device problem. well i put my sim card in my girl phone and it loads up her internet wit no prob. aint dat a beootch. ok. so the tech lady says its a device problem and transfer me to Warranty, since im still covered.
im like, how n da hell can it be a device problem. i was just using it fine. only thing wrong is my internet not connecting. my voice calls and txts wrks fine. nothing happened to this device in that short period of time to make me think the device broke somehow. Anyways, they said they going to send me a "refurbished" phone and she read the conditions. REDDDD FLAGGGG...lol u shoulda seen the look on my face. lmao she started askin me all sorts of questions like did i drop the phone, any scratches, any water damage, had me check water marker..lol..
i was getting worried they gonna find a reason to void me. i said i had some light scratches/abrasions. she saiD, ONCE I SEND MY PHONE BACK IN, IF ITS DETERMINED THAT I VOIDED MY WARRANTY BY DEEP SCRATCHES OR WHATEVER, THEY GONNA CHARGE MY ACCOUNT $370. DAMNNNN and for a damn refurbished phone at that...i was soooo mad...im like ok...send me da damn thing then. priority mail . 2 days at most. once i get that send my phone in. ok..thats done and we hang up.
Now im worried from scratches and from all the tweaks ive done to this phone. i easily have plenty of reasons they could try to void me. i have wayy too many system tweaks and Android, which they would discover. i cannot afford some b.s. processing charge of $370, if its determined i voided warranty. she said deep knicks or scratches would void it. im like for dat damn much, id rather juss buy a new phone. not pay that much for a refurb one..lmfao
ok...so im thinkn n still pissed my internet not wrkn. I really start thinkn. i remembered i had the high speed internet tweak(hspda) enabled on windows mobile. and guess what......
After i disabled it, soft reset, and started back up, NOW MY (!()_ing internet is wrkn. after all these hours and talkin with customer service and techs. i cant believe da ish..lol i think something messed up my tweak. so disabling it puts my phone back to standard 3g. which in turn allows my internet to wrk properly again...FIGURESS.
now i gotta call these damn people back and stop the refurb phone from being shipped. they not gonna get me for all that $$$ i juss had a really bad feeling when she said i had to send my phone in..
srry if this seems long as hell, i had to vent....i was soooooooo pissed off. this is my only internet connection at the moment. whether its mobile or im tethering. she slmost got me on dat one..lol she was like what u say, u tether? im like , oh lord, i done let the beans out now..lmao so now im bout to get off this net n call the people back and tell them to cancel it. I WAS THE TECH PERSON TO FIGURE OUT THE PROBLEM IN THE END. i juss wished i wouldve thought to disable the high speed tweak first. i didnt think that mattered cuz it wrkd perfectly b4. those tech people at at&t dont know jack squat..lol
man...im tired...thnk u for reading/listening. i had to vent. problem amd situation SOLVED BY ME IN THE END. now im off to callin them back to cancel that package they gonna send.. AT&T, u not gonna het me for almost $400..lol ****..id buy an ipad or some tablet for that..lol goodnight people, if im not too tired, ya might catch me on Android finally. dayuumm. i was supposed to be booted in Androidd since like 5p.m. or so. its now 12:06a.m. godaaaayyuuummm im like 7hrs late..lmao better late than never.
I feel you man. Here is my story with ****-T&T:

I hope they don't hassle me if I decide to get my Tilt replaced through insurance. It's old and dinged up and custom romed.

YOU definitely need to put stock rom bck in. A Custom rom or flashed device is a guareenteed void. They be trying to look for anything to void. That's messed up.

AT&T...ha, I got lots of bad stories with their 611 that I should write a book with them!
Did I felt it was fair for them to replace my Treo 600 with a brand new 650? Sure, please do, no complain! Did I felt it was fair for them to replace Treo 680 I bought without contract with a refur one? I was pissed. Was I any happy when they replaced my Tilt with another Refur one that I once again bought it at full retail? Grrr...what's the point? No need to kill any more brain cell since that's how they have been for years and the last refur I got didn't look anything like a refur anyway. Gosh, I missed those days when you could walk into a Co Owned store and get a brand new replacement phone and be on your way!
They asked me the same questions about dropping the phone and etc. They told me they'd charge me if they found out I caused the phone to go nuts. Did I dropped my phone, yes. Was it the main cause for the phone to go nuts? I doubt since the time I dropped the phone to the date I needed any kind of replacement was like months apart. I did clean the phone up real good and hard reset it back to its default stage, but that was all that I did. As long as the water damage label didn't change colour, I'd think you should be fine. Droid wasn't out back in the day when I was using Treo or the Tilt, but I did had a lots of apps installed on them and I did used regedit on the Tilt, but they never charged me a bit.
I am glad your internet is back...a few tricks I learned with AT&T 611 is you gotta stand your ground. If they say it's the handset issue but you are getting phone calls and texts thru...guess what, call that a Network Issue and make them work it back. Yours was probably just the tower didn't agree with your phone after the storm and somehow both found their way to work back together. All these years with AT&T, I had signal issue right by my house. I live right next to the city hall and police station. Everytime I call them, instead of telling me they need a Tower by my house, they tried to tell me I had no signal around my house were (yes, WERE) because ...
I live next to the police station, handset issue, my respond was no, if I drive to the other side of the police station but stay within the same distance, I'd have full bar, so don't blame it to the police radio, own up to your network sucks around my house.
Old SIM card. I went to the store and got my SIM replace, called 611 on my way home...heehee, call dropped right when I got near my house.
Using the $15 internet plan on the Tilt. how is that gonna affect my phone call? You wanna tell me I need the darn internet in order to make phone calls? And how come my Tilt runs on HSDPA when I stand in just about anywhere in Downtown Los Angeles? Don't tell me it's a data plan issue, build a tower around here!
phone didn't get update because it stayed on all the time, so turn off your phone, take the battery out for about 10 mins and it should fix the problem. Er...correct me if if I am wrong, ok? I am supposed to turn off my phone every now and then so it can update itself? (Yes) Um...so you telling me my phone would update itself if I were to shut it down and take the battery out? (yes) I am sorry, you gonna have to explain to me a bit more cause I'd imagine electronic stop working the moment when the power source disappear! So you telling me your computer would update itself if you shut it off tonight when you leave even if AT&T IT Dept told you not to? (Err...sir, I am gonna have to transfer you to the tech dept to troubleshot your phone) LOL I thought so!
The material of the house I am in. Hey numb nut (on the inside!) Didn't I just told you I have problems making phone calls within two blocks from my house? I think that's a clue that I have problems even OUTSIDE OF MY HOUSE SINCE MY HOUSE IS NOT AS BIG AS TWO CITY BLOCKS!
handset issue. Really? Funny, I had stick my SIM Card into Treo 650, 680, Blackjack, Old LG AT&T locked phone (Green Screen!!!), unlocked quad bands, unlocked tri bands and guess what? Same issue! Either can't make calls or drop calls or breaking up during calls! Build a tower!
my fingers were blocked the ant. Oh gosh, get me the manager!
Seriously, I had a lot of horrible stories with AT&T, I was with them ever since Pac Bell! I finally got to the point to say Fewest drop calls, yes, only if you can make the call first!
Don't let them blame you. If you run into the same kind of problem again, check other AT&T phones you can get your hands on. And if you can make calls and texts, chance for it being handset issue or SIM issue is slim to none, at least speaking from my experience.
Another little trick I learned was to call and flat out say I want to cancel my account. From all these years with them, they never once said "OK, done." They always always do their best to listen to my problems and then try to do something to make me stays. I had the "1st Incoming Minute" for free on every bill; Early Night and Wkend for free as long as I don't cancel; one free month; get to keep my $15 internet plan for as long as I keep my account open. Took me two weeks to actually cancel my account with them and during that two weeks, they even called me to follow up with my issue. When I finally left them, my bill was like 100 bucks a months with 1500 day time, 5000 night and weekend, over 15,000 (yes, you read that right) mins rolled over, first incoming mins free, early night and weekend for free, $15 internet plan on a Smartphone, free insurance...
Good luck with AT&T, just learn to laugh at the things they tell ya since even their tech dept thinks those over at the 611 are idiots! And if they already sent the refur out, I think you'd be fine if you call them first, get to a manager or supervisor and write down that person's name, get them to promise you are not going to be charge for that phone since you they know what they sent you by the IMEI number and send it back with that UPS or FedEx label. And if they end up charging ya, call them back and demand to talk to no one else but that one supervisor you spoke to.
SORRY for this rather long reply
y, i waseah, im feeling both of yall's story. i can definitely relate. lmao we had called them back last night to try to cancel, but they said already processed. so when we get the device they ship, either refuse package or ship it back to them. ok. plus we got them to refund the $12 dollar fee for using priority mail or fed ex.
this the Real kicker though, although i got internet wrkn again, somethin aint right. i can tell n feel it. now, i have the 3g symbol up there. i had to disable my hspda/hsupa to get internet wrkn. i got that high speed fix thru the tilt 2 Data fix. ok. now thats diabled, internet wrkn. should be no complaints, right? Nooooo thru various methods of testing the network speed, im not getting 3g speeds although it shows im on it or using it. i know by using opera mini or skyfire, i wont get true results. so i use opera mobile 10 and explorer. opera mobile shows me at a measley 57kbps....OMFG..what....it always at least showed me at edge speeds or greater b4. even when i boot into Android and use their speedtest.net app, same b.s. results. damn, i cant win..lol
So anyways, i start thinkn if that data fix is messing something up. so i uninstall it. soft reset. fire her back up. now, theoritically, it should be back to stock network settings or speed. i check the advanced connection settings and see it was back to stock. ok. i run more speed tests. i get the same results. i couldnt believe it. so i know it wasnt the data fix cab messing it up now. i reinstall it. enable the hspda/hsupa. then soft reset. internet will not wrk now with it enabled. i disable it, internet wrks, but at ****ty speeds. lol so i dont know what the hell the deal is. it shows the big 3g icon and little one above the bars but im not getting that speed. let me tell u, b4 yesterday, i was normally pulling anywhere from 1000+kbps to 3000kbps. thats 1 mb to 3mb download speeds. NOW, im only pulling like 57kbps or .57mb download speed. how the hell is that possible now. lol i even check other settings to make sure everything still the same. like in windows media, if u press menu, then options, it allows u to pick the connection speeds or whateva and some other things that have check boxes by them. its all still the same like i had it b4. so i dont know, Something definitely is not right. im at a loss for words and tired of stressn about this. if this dont get fixed soon, im pretty positive me n my woman gonna drop At&T like a bad habit. this dont make no sense. oh well, im glad to have intenet bck, even if sloww. any internet speeds is better than none..lol but im not gnna let this slide for to long. probaly in a few days or so, ima call them back and DEMAND they check the network. cuz although im getting internet and 3g symbol shows, it not a true reading. im at like dial up modem speeds..WHAT A CLASSIC FAIL FOR AT&T. now i have a horry story to tell...lmfao
its official....AT&T done dropped the ball n %$&^ed up. Im tethered to computer now. I went to speedtest.net to check my speed. Im using the google chrome browser. Do u know what it shows my download speed at?
0.03mb what part of the game is that? b4 yesterday, i had on avg. 1-3mb speeds. Now im at 0.03mb Thats not gonna cut it. Even here on this forum now, pages takin forever to load up. I am sooo not used to these slow ass speeds. I guess ive been spoiled lately on the high speed.
We gonna call them again soon after i cool off about it. So they can be more helpful. cuz i know ima cuss them out. ive been with them for too long to have to settle for this kind of service or performance. My woman tired of them also. She been with at&t even longer than me. I used to be on sprint. like a decade ago. lol damn im feelin old n im not. i switched from sprint back then cuz i was constantly going over my minutes. No matter how i upgraded the plan, i would go over n always be an extra $200-$300 dollars on top of my bill. I couldnt have that plus back then they didnt have an unlimited plan. Sprint, i might be coming back to yall. Now they have an unlimited plan, and some decent phones. The prices are better also. Ive been on my old cingular plan still. i never switched to a new at&t plan.
Now i hope the Dell Streak will work on sprint also. Its supposed to work on any network, but i want proof. lol if it doesnt, then i guess ima opt for the new EVO 4g. which is a great second choice. i dont know, im trying not to be pissed off about this anymore but its hard. Especially since i use my device so much for everything. Its my only source of internet connection. If i cant tether, i cant get on the net. they always throwing monkey wrenches in the game.
This is more than juss a One time Bad experience. Its completely unacceptable. Especially if im paying $49.99 on top of my bill for the premium unlimited data service. Now my Data aint worth |||#$#..lol u know what i wanted to say. sorry for the slip ups n language. I know younger folks be surfing this site also. So AT&T, YOU REALLY MESSED UP WITH THIS CUSTOMER. I pay too much on my bill to deal with this. They should be on their hands and knees trying to solve my problem and any other persons problem. id have to say that once Iphone came to at&t, they went downhill. point blank. now ima press submit reply, which will take like forever to process thru....dayyyuummm...this definitely gonna cut back my posting. lmfao im so impatient when it comes to the net.
Has anyone else had this issue, that although ur device is showing you in 3g, the speeds arent matching up? 3g speed supposed to be 1mb or better. now, although it shows 3g, my download speed is .57mb from my phone and 0.03mb tethered to computer. I feel like throwing my phone against the wall.
HTC listen to complaints
HTC is better than ATT. I had a problem with my Tilt 2 a few months ago and ATT would not fix it. The screen got a watery look under it. I think the display was leaking. I call ATT and HTC and they said it was damage that I had caused and was not cover. I got pissed because the phone was only a few months old. So a few day later HTC sent me a email requesting my feed back from the recent tech call I made. Well I put a very bad responsed and explained how I felt like the phone was defective and should be covered under warranty. One week later a HTC rep called and informed me that she regret I was have problems with my phone and was the tech I talk to rude or not helpful. Then she told me that my phone was damaged by use but HTC was going to fix it for free if I payed for shipping to a repair shop. I sent in they fixed and happy ending! I did drop my phone which caused the leaky display. I feel a cell phone should be able to take a few drops. I love my Tilt 2 but feel I have baby it all the time. I love my Tilt 2 more with a cooked leo rom that works better than the factory rom.

thanks for that insight. Although, im not sure what HTC can do about my data other than sending me a new device. i might try that after i call at&t again in a few days. especially if the problem doesnt get fixed. glad it wrked out for ya though. warranty told me any "Deep Scratches" will result in Voided warranty. she said if u can run ur fingernail across the scratch and it gets stuck, then its a deep one. come on now..lol thats juss a matter of opinion. i cant risk them adding that $370 dollar processing charge to my bill. which will in turn probaly cut my service off since itll go over the limit..with that and my phone bill. At&T=FAIL at the moment, im so used to fixing tech issues or problems myself. At&t, i cant fix ur cell towers for u, especially for free.
I was kinda amazed at how much more i knew about my device than the customer service or tech person. i told the tech i was testing the internet with opera mini 5, opera mobile 10, and Skyfire. She about had an Orgasm, n was about to ask me how to do all that, but she caught herself and said we need to get back to ur problem. Gimme a break..lol i think i might need to be a tech. They couldnt even get my internet back workin. I had to figure it out in the end. They supposed to have high powered computers and stuff to read data from the phone and stuff. They supposed to be the ones to figure out my problem with their device. Not the other way around. I might honestly look into trying to switch jobs to becoming a trouble shooter or tech, since thats what it seems im very good at. even my woman, with her masters in computer field, i know more than her when it comes to hardware or mobile devices. She be asking me to fix stuff on her computer. Im like, damn, u need to give me ur degree then...lol its all good. shes just more in the software engineering/information system most of my knowledge is hands on experience thru trial and error. I have some Computer Science under my belt, but i never finished at Old Dominion University. Time to go back and finish.
My internet speeds have picked up again. Only seems to do it in Android though. I still cant enable my high speed data fix. When i do, the internet wont work at all. It did b4 the incident. The Fed Ex guy juss came to the door with the package. I refused it, so they can ship that refurbished phone right back..lmao so slowly but surely, my internet speeds are getting better but theres still something funny about all of it. Especially now that i cant enable the high speed data fix that enables HSPDA/HSUPA. hmmmm
i've had the same issue with the high speed data tweak as well. happened to me 3 times. It would increase my internet speed for a day or so then nothing.
theres one registry edit you have to revert to get data back. forgot which one it is. I'm thinking the network is seeing it as an error and kind of blacklisting your device, but thats just a guess.
Also i've turned in phones under warranty and they ask you if it has any scratches that will get caugh on your fingernail. I did and was as frustrated as you, but my device was bricked so i sent it in anyway and was never charged.
Next time you have an issue with your device and it really does need to be replaced, go to a device support center, they'll change it on the spot and tell you right there if your device is gonna be rejected.
ATT gave me the same crap about my daughter's phones. 9 months old, still under warranty, but it has scratches. I argued that a phone couldn't make it through 12 months without some scratches and that their warranty was BS and I was very unhappy. I told them that the next time I renew I'm changing companies. She put me on hold to talk to a "supervisor" who then "Waived" the possible charges in case of scratches.
The problem is when I receive text messages from any network, the time stamp is messed up and shows up two minutes in the future (see picture below). I have done a complete hard reset about five times, tried all different software updates, went completely back to stock (unrooted), tried AOSP roms, tried Gingerbread roms, tried Sense roms with AOSP mms.apk, and whatever I try I cannot get rid of this bug. It causes all my text messages to be scrambled and not in order. I use this phone 90% of the time for texting. It's how I handle most of my business. I called Sprint and ended up getting up to their advanced tech support where they simply did a provisioning reset (completely unactivated and activated again) and after that they said there is nothing they can do. So I took it into the remedial Sprint tech in my local Sprint store (don't have enough time to travel 2 hours to get to a corporate store), and they did another master hard reset where they completely reloaded the software (I guess). Still not fixed. I am outside of my 30 days so i cannot do a swap. I cannot send my phone in to HTC because I simply cannot live without a phone for 2 weeks, and I don't have a backup. I've done all types of searching on google and the only thing I could find was about 6 months ago people were having this problem but the times were delayed by an hour or two. The texts are not delayed they show up on time, they just have the wrong time stamp. It has to be something with the network and not the software. My immediate suspicion is that is has something to do with my MMS provisioning to the network but I really don't know how to look into this.
This is probably one of the weirdest problems you will ever see. The picture at the bottom shows the right time in the corner but look at the time on my last incoming text. Off by two minutes in the future. Can anybody offer my some advice I am up for anything. I can also post or send anybody anything. I need this fixed but I just can't deal with Sprint anymore. I realized they are a business but if they support a faulty product, they should fix it without taking anything away from their customers. I always feel like Sprint is trying to take something away from their customers. Oh also one of the Sprint techs said the EVo would not get an official gingerbread update because Sprint wants to push other phones.........most likely a fib but who knows....sounds like Sprint and HTC. Anyways
Just a thought, what if those texts really are coming from the future? I mean for all you know you are caught in some sort of weird time vortex thing that distorts your perception of time, making it seem like you are in the present when actually you are two minutes behind everybody else. That would make any text coming in to you be from 2 minutes in the future. I know this sounds far fetched but I wouldn't discount it as a possibility.
This is a bug in android. Search the market for sms time fix and see if that helps.
Usually it's off by hours and not minutes though. There is also a setting somewhere that will let you use the local time instead of network time but I don't remember where it is at. You could also try disabling roaming, I keep mine locked to Sprint's network and never lose a signal.
Never heard of this fix, but I got the same bug. I just installed chomp sms, works perfect now.
Sent from my PC36100 using Tapatalk
Try CM7. Perhaps the bug was fixed in Gingerbread (2.3.1)
I tired gingerbread....and the funny thing is this only happens to some phones because my roomate has an evo right now and it does not do any of this....so it is not a problem with android......it has to be the Sprint servers or something. I'm on fully stock right now (no root). I tired gingerbread (CM7) and it didn't help anything. I'm taking my phone back into Sprint today but this time I'm going to give them hell. I payed 350 dollars for this phone I will not settle for "Oh, well we can't do anything about it." You shouldn't have to install anything extra on your phone. I tried that SMS fix but the funny thing is, it messes everything up because my Sprint texts are fine but my verizon and att are all futuristic. And no I am not in some weird wormhole or time continuum the phone is just messed up. It happens with electronics but there is usually this thing called a warranty that allows for direct replacement and for some reason cell phone companies have avoided this whole customer based process. I'll get back in about an hour.
Alright went to my local Sprint Repair Center and they could do absolutely nothing. However I did have the manager push through a priority claim ticket to the network engineers and hopefully, and I do mean hopefully, they call me back. Apparently the last few times I've called they told me they started a ticket, and actually didn't. I think they think I was telling them a lie or something. The manager there was actually extremely helpful and told me he would make sure I get a new phone if this doesn't work. If anybody has any other suggestions please let me know.
I'm curious if this would fix it...
Go to your time options. Settings-Date/Time If automatic is ticked, untick it. If its not, tick it. I would think the bug is caused when a text is sent with a timestamp via the network, at lets say 6:00 but your phone is registered as 5:58. Your timestamp would get all different kinds of backwards in your text app. I'm not sure if time on a phone would be on a BIOS chip like a computer, but it would make sense that your phone is just simply registering the time wrong. If you check/uncheck that and it still does it, simply hard-set the time two minutes ahead.
Recently I've started having the same exact problem, except I have the Samsung Epic. Called customer support once and they "reset messaging" which didn't help at all. Installing any third-party messaging apps haven't helped, and neither has switching between local and network-provided time. Also, its random, so most incoming messages are messed up, but some are actually correct.
I'll try manually setting the time ahead two minutes and bugging some people to text me.
Edit: No luck, with the time set ahead two minutes, incoming timestamps are two minutes ahead of the new setting as well.

Please call technical support and get everything into the Sprint system. Ask them to push it to a network engineer. I have to wait until one of them get a hold of me but they may end up just replacing the phone. I'm glad to hear that other people are having the problem also. Also an update, it is text messages from all networks that do this, including Sprint. I will keep this thread updated because I need to get this problem solved. At this point, I don't think there is anything left for me to do from the user end. I just have to wait for Sprint to get it all figured out. I do have insurance and they said they might just put in a request for a new one at no cost to me......also sounds like bs because I thought you had to pay a 100$ deductible no matter what. The Sprint tech said you don't have to pay for the deductible if its a software or network issue and there is no screen crack or water damage. My EVO is in perfect condition but the software doesn't work. Hopefully they will give me a reconditioned one that actually works.
This is a Sprint network problem. Various sprint phones (not just Androids) are notorious for this type of behavior (wrong time stamps, messages out of order, delay in receiving and sending messages, etc etc). It's very frustrating indeed.
For the time being, try using one of the SMS apps on the market like Handcent or ChompSMS. You may still get incorrect time stamps from time to time, but your messages will arrive/send in order.

I appreciate the response but I really don't like using aftermarket apps that don't go along with the theme of the phone. I'm real OCD like that. I don't even like apps that have free next to their name. If you pay 350$ for a piece of electronics, everything should work on it, including software and hardware. The sprint engineers need to get this figured out. This is unacceptable. The amount of money they are getting from their customers is ridiculous so why can't everything work. I realize their stock has taken a murdering but you have to keep your customers happy, that's number one. Anyways, I'm waiting too hear from Sprint but they said 72 hours not including the weekend so If I don't hear from them by next Tuesday, they will be getting a nasty call.
Exact same problem!
It has been driving me crazy. I will receive a text at 9:05, respond to it, and it will say it's 1-2 minutes earlier.
Another thing: we have four Sprint phones in the house. If we're all looking at them at the same time, they don't all say the same time. So, I tend to think that the time that shows when I receive a text is actually the time the sender's phone says. (Is that confusing enough for you?) Could that be the difference?
It only started recently, probably when I updated my phone last month.
This happens randomly on my Evo. Certain people I'm texting with, the time stamps will be out of whack, ranging from 2 minutes off, to over an hour off. My time stamp is always accurate, it's just the other person's that is inaccurate. I can be texting with a different person, at the same time, and the other thread will be perfectly normal. It's annoying. My phone also thought it was somewhere in Amsterdam (i wish i was there with it too) for a few hours, and nothing I tried would get it to show my actual location. I attribute all of this to google issues, and not actual problems with the phone.

Alright still not fixed as of Monday....I have one more day until I can call Sprint and give them hell which I love...not....but anyways I've been doing some testing on when actually the time stamp is off. The time stamp is off from any network including Sprint only when the phone is asleep (or the screen is off). Then the time stamp comes in 2-3 minutes in the future. When my phone is on everything comes in fine and one time and all the time stamps are good. It seems like when the phone is asleep its grabbing things from the network 2 min ahead for some reason.
Alrigth just an update on the situation.....called Sprint back they said they had no recollection of my callings the last couple of days....completely unacceptable. Anyways I got real nasty with them and got sent up to retentions (I told them the iphone for verizon looks really good right now.) Walked all over the retentions people and they said just go to a store and get a warranty swap (since I pay the 7 dollars a month or whatever.) I went to the local store (Lafayette, IN 47909) and they said that I was the first one with this problem but not the last. Apparently right after I left the store the first time I went, about 10 to 15 people came in right after that with the same problem. The manager at the store finally got a technician ticket in and apparently the problem has reached a ton of people all the way down to Indianapolis. Even some of the workers at the store are having problems with their EVOs and Epics. The explanation I got was it has to do with android and the text messaging server within the Sprint Network. If anyone else is having this problem...PLEASE CALL SPRINT AND ***** TO THEM. They need to fix this as soon as possible but they won't recognize it as THEIR problem unless a bunch of people call in about it. It should be getting fixed but I will check back on Friday.
I noticed this same problem on mine. Looks like I'll be calling Sprint tonight and stopping by my local store. Maybe I'll just go to Sprint World HQ here in KC and talk to them about it.

Please do....I'm wondering if there is a bug in the sms server that is causing this and it is slowly spreading nationwide. I call dibs on pointing this out if this is the case. This was from the mouth of a Sprint Employee. "Sprint will not do anything on an individual level but if the problem spreads to more than enough people, they will jump on it immediately." Now how much people is the real questions? I think the Sprint people thought I was crazy and now they are gonna be like....damn we should have listened to him. It's been going on for about 2 weeks now and I'm hoping it gets fixed before the end of the billing cycle.
Hey OP...as you may have figured by now your not the only one. I get it too. I kind of just let it go since it was minor. Mine also, when someone sends me a pic it goes to the very top of the conversation as opposed to in line with the rest of the texts...again i kind of let it go, but i do understand that we all paid our money, we should have perfection or at least 99.9. Thing is i dont want to swing by sprint and them see warm 2.2!!!! Then i'm really screwed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Just do a backup and flash a stock RUU.....sprint needs to know about this..It has nothing to do with our phones but everything to do with their servers and they wont do anything until enough people complain. Anybody in the midwest that is getting text message problems, please call Sprint and complain. Explain to them exactly what is happening and tell them to give you a ticket number and tell them you expect a call within 72 hours. Get you case in so this can be fixed for everybody.
Anybody running into this? I bought a GNex about 2 weeks ago and when on a call I get a high pitch squeal randomly. Loud... like pull the handset from my head loud. The person on the other end doesn't hear it. I called VZW several times and they say they haven't heard of this. My wife got the same phone when I did and it happens to her, too. My twin got the phone about a week later and his is fine. I took the phone in to VZW earlier this week and they mailed me a replacement... it does it also. I changed the ROM to the Open Kang ROM to see if it might be a software thing... still doing it. Very frustrating. It happens when sitting in my office on 4G or 3G, when driving, etc... no real rhyme or reason that I've been able to figure out. The squeal happens every 3-15 minutes without any real pattern. I don't see any notifications or anything that are new after the squeal takes place.
If anybody else is experiencing this can you post? If you fixed please advise! Thanks!!!

Yes, that happened to me when i was running stock at first too. Once i flashed AOKP 4.0.3 and franco's kernel, I haven't had that problem at all. It was REALLY annoying, sporadic, no rhyme or reason. It was also waaayyy louder than i thought the speaker could ever get ironicly enough. Also dont know if the new radios might have helped too, I flashed those separately because they aren't included on the 4.0.3 roms. Hope it helps =\
I called Verizon about this again today. I had enough trouble with one device that they sent me a second device. The second device does it too. Very frustrating. The device is also much slower than my old Incredible. I officially hate this device. Should be faster with a solid connection to 4G. I'm going to see what is necessary for VZW to somehow get me out of this device and into anything different. Hell, at this point I'm ok with an iPhone... anything but this.
I'm going to use this thread to track what I've been doing in the hopes that it can help others if they are dealing with VZW with this issue.
Dec/11 - bought the GNex new. Had the squealing problems and talked with the store I bought it from. They thought it was an app and suggested I make changes to my apps. I did that for a week or so and they finally exchanged the phone for new.
Jan/12 - new device arrives. Same trouble. I dropped the stock OS and went to the OKP OS. Same trouble. Figure I'll take notes for vzw and see if I can figure it out. What I found...
Seems to happen when talking with other mobile users, never to a land line. Later narrowed it down to only other vzw users, did not happen when talking to at&t users. Later narrowed it down that it only happens to other vzw users who are using the GNex device as well.
Called vzw last week after growing frustrated again. They had me do some troubleshooting on the device and re-provisioned my account. Same trouble. They sent me another new device. I put this device back to stock and relocked.
Feb/12 - 3rd device arrives. Stock OS, no apps installed. Had the same problem that same day. Called vzw the next morning and they had me put the device in safe mode so that they could determine if the problem was hardware or software. If you didn't know there was a safe mode now you know. Boot holding the down vol button until you're in the OS. Immediately had the same problem.
Called vzw back and demanded a different device. They told me they couldn't change the device because I was outside of 14 days. No kidding, I wouldn't be outside of 14 days if vzw hadn't been asking me to do all of this troubleshooting. I finally agree to pay full retail price if they credit my account for the past 3 months of troubleshooting. Nope. They make me upgrade eligible and I went a completely different direction to an iPhone hoping that this stupid squeal would be gone. I'll sell the GNex for close to retail on Craigslist at this point.
Mar/12 - iPhone is running for a day and I talk with my wife (GNex device). The squeal is there but MUCH SOFTER in volume. I will talk with my brother as I leave work tonight because I always have trouble with him on the phone. Hopefully this will help me know for sure.
What I think I'm finding is that it's not necessarily my GNex that had a problem... it's the reception from OTHER GNex users that is causing me the trouble. My wife has complained about the problem as well but at a much lesser frequency and only when on the phone with me. We don't talk on the phone that much. The curious piece is that my brother doesn't have the problem.
More to follow as I figure out for sure whether or not the iPhone has the same problem. If so then it's not my device, nevermind that I'm on my 4th device in 3 months. VZW has been entirely worthless through this process and has made me fight the entire way. Their customer service is horrible and the managers that I have been talking to should be fired. I can't believe they allow managers to talk with customers the way some of these guys do (especially this last Paul LaFranky dude (not sure about his last name)).
So I just came across this thread while doing my normal daily browsing here and find it interesting.
My nephew who has a SGSII here in east coast Canada on Bell txt'ed me earlier to ask if I ever get a "crazy squeal noise from your phone when you're trying to make/receive a call".
It's not all the time. He said it happened about 4 times in the past few months and it's only a land line. He doesn't make a lot of voice calls, mainly the 1 land line (work). When it happens, he hangs up and calls back and it's fine.
It may be completely unrelated to your issue. He's on stock gingerbread.
Anyway, thanks for posting the details and keeping record, i'll follow this for sure.
I have now had two calls today with the high pitch noise. At this point it is def not my device as I'm now on an iPhone. Good news is I can go back to the gnex. Bad news is that I'm all but certain that gnex devices are somehow SENDING these tones. With as unhelpful as vzw has been I'm beginning to think I may simply need to call those people less often... So annoying. I'll call vzw in the morning and see what they have to say. Ugh.
Mine does it too. It is my second one as my first stopped working on 3g so they replaced it. The first phone did it too. I just live with it.... I dont talk on phone much.
I get them as well with the GN, but I was also getting it with my thunderbolt from time to time.
My brother is upgrading to 4.0.4 today and will drop a new OS on his GNex. Once he does that I have asked him to call me to chat for a little bit. It would be great if that takes care of the problem! Fingers crossed. If that doesn't solve the problem I will call VZW with the additional info. If it does then I'll go back to the GNex and sell this new iPhone.
Update - called VZW to have my account updated with the latest notes. While on the phone the lady I spoke with acknowledged that there is a KNOWN ISSUE FOR THIS PROBLEM with Samsung devices. The devices that she said are affected are the Galaxy Nexus, the Charge and the Stratosphere. Samsung is supposedly working on an update that will address the problem. No ETA for that update.
I sure wish someone had told me about this sometime over the past 3 months of troubleshooting... it would have saved me the money for the iPhone as well as the hassle with vzw. Hopefully someone here will get some good out of this.
How odd. I have a VZW Nexus, but have not encountered this issue. I don't often make calls, but they sound fine when I do.
The problem is on the other end for the person you are talking to... they will hear a high pitch squeal from time to time. Mine would do it as often as every 10-15 seconds or so or could be as little as every half hour (or not at all depending on length of call).
I have talked with my brother a couple times today after he upgraded to 4.0.4 and haven't had the problem at all. I wonder if that update includes some work to fix this. ??
Hello all. I have been enjoying my OGP for a few weeks now...but those who talk to me on the phone don't! Nearly everyone I talk to complains about their voice being echoed back to them while the sound on my end is just fine. Sometimes, they say that they can't continue the conversation because it is so distracting. I know this has been going on for at least a couple weeks now (I don't actually talk on the phone all that often, so it's hard to tell when it first started--but my wife claims she's had to deal with it since I first got it!). Strangely, it seemed to improve a little bit when I removed my case, but it would return after a while. This made me think there was something going on with the microphones (but I would have thought that it would effect what I hear, not the other way around).
So, has anyone else had this problem? If so, have you been able to fix it? I am about to call for help about it (I actually tried to call Best Buy yesterday from it, but I couldn't get passed their automated voice service because it kept hearing itself and not understanding!). However, I am assuming they will tell me the usual fix of "perform a factory reset". I have everything backed up, but it's still annoying to have to restore it to the way I like it. I have it rooted, applied xposed themes, removed the Q-slide in the dropdown, use AdAway, but that's about it as far as rooted functions.
I have a feeling that there is something faulty with my unit and will have to get it replaced anyway, but I figured I might as well check with others before having to go that route.
Thanks!
Well I have only had this phone since Monday and have made 24 calls so far and no echoes coming from my device. It could possibly be a defect in the phone and should be covered by your warranty call whomever and swap your phone for a new one. But before you go and do that how have you customized your phone have you messed with any settings or personal touches you might have added... But since your wife has said that this has been happening since the beginning I really think it's a defect within your hardware. That's my 2 cents.
Sent from my LG-E980 using Tapatalk 4 Beta
If someone was curious on the result, I ended up just getting a warranty exchange (just did the online chat and it was fairly short and sweet). They sent the replacement with overnight shipping.
I had already tried to see if a fresh install of the TOT followed by the OTA value pack update would do anything, but no such luck. So, it was a faulty device.
People who call me now are enjoying echo-free calls!
