So today I tried to use the 3.5mm to USB-C adapter to use wired headphones on my phone. It's been over a month since I've used the adapter and it was working fine. Today it's not working.
The strangest part is if I plug it in one way nothing happens at all. However, if I unplug it and flip it around the phone does detect it but instead of playing music it behaves as if I plugged it into my computer and I get the "Android System - USB supplying power to attached device" where I can tap and select between "Charge this device", "Supply power", "Transfer files", "Transfer photos (PTP)" and "Use device as MIDI".
Has anyone ever had this issue? Phone hardware issue? Adapter issue? Software issue?
I started having this issues while a go and it escalated fast, now everytime I plug my phone to any source of power it turns off
It could be the adapter as well but there is a small group of people having the same issue as me
Same issue here, I have to unplug and plug again my adapter for it to work. It has been several times that I accidently started playing music loudly on the bus.

Well, I haven't had that issue......yet. I contacted Google support. They are sending out a new adapter. Not sure if that's the issue but it's the easiest place to start. Otherwise it's a phone hardware issue or a software bug.

Do you just have to unplug and plug in one to get it to work? Do you ever see the power/file transfer menu? That's all I get and only if I plug it in one way. When the connector flipped over I don't even get that menu.

I am on my third device because of this issue.
https://productforums.google.com/fo...!msg/phone-by-google/-p-F-7Rgtak/zUay6YIZBgAJ
Massive thread about it, Google doesn't have a fix for it yet.
Restarting the phone/unplugging & replugging the adapter usually sorts it out for a little bit, Sometimes it won't stop doing it, Completely random!

It's so strange. It worked for me every time with no issue at all for like 6 months. Only recently did it start having a problem.
Since you are on your 3rd device with the same issue that makes me think it is a software bug not a hardware issue. Otherwise replacing it should fix the problem.
I think the last time I remember it working was late April or early May (hadn't even tried the adapter since then until about a week ago). So maybe a bug in either the May or June update?
I'm having the same issue here. It worked up to within the last month; I didn't notice exactly when it stopped as I'd been using bluetooth headphones more often. Left them at home one day and pulled out the backup USB-C cable for my QC-25 headphones and the phone indicated it was charging the headphones.
Some folks at the other thread said the Android 9 beta resolved the issue, but I updated to the 9 release a couple days ago and I still get the issue. FWIW

Seems to be resolved for me on Android 9...so far.
My aux dongle isn't the problem for me, I've gotten a replacement and it's still didn't work.
I've started facing the same issue from yesterday, is there any solution to this?

Even after uninstalling it with titanium backup, root explorer and native android in menu it keeps popping up in notification bar with these ill-effects:
It closes out any apps or programs I was using!
It automatically puts me on speaker when I make or receive calls
Screen orientation cannot be disabled
Screen lock cannot be disabled
Volume is lowered when playing music
stays at the same volume and cannot be adjusted.
Some suggestions were to disable automatic startup and bluetooth in Car Home's menus when it pops up, I did not see such option. Now the menu does not pop up anymore, only the steering wheel icon pops up in notification bar to let me know its here to make my day a living hell again. Everyday, Every Hour, Every minute. I've done full wipe, cache, dalvik, and reinstall of cm6 6.1.2 and it just wont GO AWAY! Please HELP!
Posting in general forum because I'm not getting any help in Q/A!
You know what, my phone started exactly the same thing yesterday lunchtime and it's bloody annoying.
One thing that bugs me is that the headphone volume is now jammed at "very loud" with no way to adjust it.
Likely cause: pins 4 & 5 of the USB port shorted out. I would recommend carefully cleaning the USB port on the phone to see if that helps (it didn't for me).
Unless anyone has a magic solution, mine is going back to stock today and then back to HTC for repair.
Had the exact same issue a while back so I just took it to Sprint and got a new one.
perhaps its my google account cuz i notice after fresh install and before i sync my market there car home is no where to be found. so im thinking theres probably an issue with my google account and apps. even thiugh it does not have car home as one of ny apps ive installed.
issue temporarily fixed by going to both car apps in applications and force stop/clearing data but then it came back again, defiantly sometime to do with usb port
My phone started having the same problem, it would come up for no reason at all. Just now I plugged it into my car charger and it magically stopped. I was wondering if the usb cable I got from HTC could be bad.
Its a provlem with your micro usb. I had the same problem on multiple
roms. Getting a new usb cable cleared it up for me.

I had the same problem, and it turned out that it was a 3rd party charger that I bought on ebay that caused it. I bought a charger from Sprint, and it cleared up for me.
Don't mean to dig up an old thread, but figured would be better than starting a new one.
My Evo just started doing similar things just two days ago. Pretty sure mine was a moisture issue- put it in my pocket while swim suit was still wet, I've read similar reports on other forums.
My issue is Car Home will launch whenever it wants (seems to be purely random.) It will 'dock' then 'undock' (indicated by the chime it plays) two or three times in a row before it finally just runs in the background. If you are in an application while this happens it will either crash the program, or refresh everything, losing what ever state you were on.
Any got a software fix for this yet? I've tried uninstalling it, freezing it, reinstalling it, deleting the apk with root explorer... nothing. Not only is it god awful annoying it's killing my battery life. From what I am understanding this issue is rooted in hardware problems, but there has to be a way of stopping a program from auto loading.
I even went as far as to delete EVERY file that root explorer found the words 'car' and 'home' in with it's search function. Tried installing apps that supposedly blocked it from auto loading like NoDock, did nothing.
If all else fails I guess i could do a full wipe and reload CM7, but I've read reports that that doesn't even fix it. Is there anyway to confirm it's a USB problem, and not a short in the magnetic sensor? I attempted to take a cat log, think it was throwing a Java error, need to read up on how to post said log.
If there is a more complete thread or resolution page, please link it, I have no issues reading up on it myself if only I can find it.
Thanks for any input!
This problem is caused by the liquid damage... Everytime I have one come in with this issue.. I have signs of liquid damage to the board, especially around the charging port...
I hear ya, but there has to be a way of removing carhome completely. My phone operates fantastic for 80% of the day, so it's not like it's a catastrophic error or anything.
Same thing happening here on my Evo with Cyanogenmod 7.1RC1. Really odd behavior. I just uninstalled car home using Titanium and I'm waiting to see if that fixes it.
I downloaded nodock (trial) and pretty much solved the issue. I still have problems on start up but once I am able to enable the app. I might just end up buying the app because of no other choice.
I fixed this issue by getting a new phone. Its a hardware issue, something something usb port dying glitching, thinks its docking with car dock
I would totally do the same thing if I wasn't living in fear of the new ota

This.
It's a hardware issue, not software. The tech at my local Sprint store said they see this a lot with people that use car chargers, especially during the winter. The end of the cable falls on the floor and gets dirt, salt, and other crap in it then gets picked up and plugged into the phone and screws up the USB port. Sometimes it just needs to be cleaned, but sometimes it actually gets damaged.

I cleaned my charging port with rubbing alcohol and it seems to be fixed.

has anyone found a solution to this issue, im currently experiencing it on my inspire.... from what i have read its a hardware issue, but isn't there anyway to make a patch of something that can block car home from launching?? it randomly starts up on my phone and causes my speaker phone to always be on when receiving calls or making one, until i manually turn it off but still its pretty annoying... help!! lol
water damage or generic charger
I had this problem I was using a cheap stand charger when I switched back to the stock charger it solved the problem after a few days.... but that evo broke and my next evo had it again plus HDMI wasn't working. Took it in and it had all kinds of corrosion from water damage causing the problem. So take it in or take it apart and clean it hope that helps
I've read a number of posts that deal with problems syncing, but none that matches exactly the problem I'm having.
When initially connected via USB, everything goes according to plan: the icons on the device and in Windows both show the connection, the sounds alert me to the handshake having been successful, and the device and PC sync. This state lasts a varying amount of time, usually about a half an hour or so. Then, without the device being touched, the ActiveSync icon on the PC goes grey, and the "connection dropped" sound on the PC is played. Nonetheless, power is still being transferred, and the charging light (orange then green) is still lit. If I disconnect and reconnect, the same pattern occurs every sing time. I've tried with a number of USB cables, always with the same behaviour.
Note that the device is out of warranty by now, so the lest desirable response is "send it back to HTC for repair".
[ edit ] Forgot to mention: Yes, I gently cleaned out all the pocket fluff that had connected in the mini USB connector on the device, but have not attempted a more prodigious cleaning.
[bump]
Really? No one else has experienced this problem?

I know you may not want to here this, but that sounds an awful lot like a symptom of a faulty USB port on the device. One way to test it is to flash the latest stock ROM for your carrier/device model and see if it works with that. If it doesn't, then you'll need to learn to solder to replace the USB port. If it does work, then you've got some troubleshooting to do on your current ROM to figure out what is causing the connection to drop.
Also, in the rare case that you are already on a stock ROM, you'll need to reflash it and test it from scratch without anything installed.

Yes, Bob, I am on the stock ROM and yes, you are right, I don't want to hear anything about flashing -- even less about soldering. I, too, suspected that it might me a hardware issue with the USB port. I guess it's time to start shopping for a new device! [ sigh ]
I have had 2 tp2's, and my wife has also had one, and every single one of them has had the same issue. It will be plugged in, working fine, synced fine, and one small tap of the wire, computer, or phone will end the sync. It could just be that the mini port is ****. With that said, don't move your phone when it is synced...
my mini port has problem syncing. it's fine for TV output and headphones. but has same problem as you describe - so now I always use BT to sync/copy files instead of USB.
Ah well, have been looking around for the next great device. There's word that AT&T will get the HTC Sensation, but nothing confirmed.
Just wondering here if you tried sync with another system - same device.
At work I never had issues, but on the road with my Acer laptop I began having the same symptoms you describe, the usb ports on this (fully updated system) just won't enable proper sync (miss my Dell). Well I'm sure you thought of this but just a thought.
If hardware fault, try to change a new cable first. Usually the cable will tear out faster than the port on board.
So this is a minor annoyance. Can anyone please tell me if they're experiencing the same problems?
I have my Tab 100 updated with the Acer_A100_2.007.04_COM_GEN1.
Prior, I was experiencing a problem where if I plugged in headphones or a headphone adapter cable into my Tab the screen would lock up and freeze. I could swype left, right, up down, select options and nothing would happen. As soon as I pulled the headphone plug out, it executed all those commands. I upgraded thinking hopefully it would fix. I was wrong.
I don't see it as some weird grounding/field disturbance because it does it if headphones are plugged in, or if I use the cable to plug it into my stereo receiver. This is super annoying and I have done several factory restores, and many different OE Stock ROM's to test against.
Can anyone confirm this issue as well and if you have a solution?
many thanks in advance.....
sounds like a hardware processing issue, I'd take it back to where you got it from and get a new one.
Sent from my moto atrix running jokersax CM9 (ICS)!
I've never had that problem. Sounds more than just software to me.
Just wondering if Android Auto for connected car displays stopped working for anyone as of yesterday or today. I'm skeptical of another Google "back end experiment" that caused it to stop working. I have a Ford with Sync 3
Symptom: Plug phone into car, nothing happens. Phone only charges and will even say USB is connected.
I've done some basic and partially in depth trouble shooting. It most likely couldn't be caused by any updates on Car infotainment system or my Phone because it has been working (unless there was a back end play services update that was pushed out).
From the obvious to less obvious:
-Tried rebooting phone and restarted car
-Tried using a different USB A to C cable (Anker ones have worked perfectly for me)
-Tried using secondary USB port in car
-Tested phones ability to connect to a PC and transfer data, no issue
-Threw music onto a USB flash drive and plugged it into car, no issue
-Tried turning on USB debugging on phone, no change (not sure if this would have even helped in first place).
I'm at a loss right now. It does not make any sense.
I do not have another android phone to try or an iPhone to test CarPlay unfortunately.
Literally had the same thing happen to me on Sync 3 last week. I just deleted the car from the Android Auto app and deleted the phone from Sync 3. After that I was able to use Android Auto again after going through the setup prompts. No issues since.
Works fine for me on my 2018 silverado
no issues on 2017 Sierra
Here it works perfectly

happens to me every 3-6 months.
Swapping out the cable resolved it every time.
ya dude you need to try some different cables. that should always be your first step if there have been no updates.
Thanks for the replies. I deleted and unpaired AA from my phone and my car with no luck.
I actually had my coworker who has a Pixel 2 XL plug his phone in to my car. He had no issues at all even after multiple tries. Mine still wont connect. We're both on Pie with same security patch level. Did try tried Multiple new cables and still no luck (the anker high quality ones).
I found this thread incase it starts happening to anyone...
https://productforums.google.com/fo.../PWBrDUXzR4o;context-place=forum/android-auto
Something I picked off of that topic was some USB patches/features that went in to effect between Pie release and last month security patch.
I may just wait a month. Maybe another security patch which tweaks USB or 9.1 will drop fixing my issue. We shall see. At least I know its not my car or my cables.
Go into apps and check your "play services" versions between the two phones. Google controls a lot of **** through that app
Or just try to clear your usb port
Thanks for the replies. After the October patch I'm back up and running.
Lack of communication between departments at Google baffles my mind.
Hi everyone, having weird issues with op9pro and new Mazda CX5 infotainment. I could get it connected a couple of times but it starts to disconnect everytime I use it.
I tried opo6 with a custom rom based on Android 10 and it works perfectly.
In my previous Mazda 6 the op9pro use to work without any issue.... I read around there are issues with AA and android 11 in general, with different cars, I tried various workarounds but it seems impossible to have a stable connection here... Am I the only one around? Some suggestions would be appreciated

Changing cables did not solve the AA problem for me. Except the oneplus 3t cable, I've only tried with anker ones. Maybe I should have tried other brands.
Interesting thing, the Anker USB-C to USB-A USB2 cable has solved the problem with my older power-bank.
hi to all, changed cable, tried PTP workaround, it could work once or twice but later as you connect the phone to the car it won't work for sure .... a real pain .... the only way for me is to use the old OP6 with android 10 custom ROM with the car, and the OP9P (main device and number!) not connected at all with the car, using a BT headset to answer while driving ..... what a shame!

Have you tried setting don't optimize for aa, then when you plus your phone into your car hold on the notification. Change it to important then turn sound and vibration off for that notification
I had similar issues with my OP9. I then made sure USB debugging was on in developer settings and that fixed the issue.

thanks for suggestion but no way, I can connect once the OP9P playing with usb in developer section settings, but it works once, and I have to delete the car from the phone and the phone from the car settings ! When I reconnect to the car the OP9P starts to opening AA and closes it quickly, it never connects as my old OP6 with android 10 and custom ROM does ....
Now I am waiting for amazon to deliver other usb cables from Ugreen, but I don't think they will solve my issue .... hope very soon a custom ROM will arrive for this OP9P so that I will probably solve this SW issue, not sure it is only on Goolge side the reason for this issue, I suppose it could be something on Oneplus Oxygen ....

You need developer settings on.
You need to turn on USB Debugging.
If this still fails, try switching the DEFAULT USB CONFIGURATION to FILE TRANSFER from NO DATA TRANSFER.
You may need to reboot after this, you may not.
Default USB Configuration is found under the Networking section in Developer Options, between Tethering hardware acceleration and Show Bluetooth devices without names.

all settings are ok in the OP9P, but it works as usual only once and after I stop the car in never reconnects again! if I reboot OP9P sometimes it works again .... for me it's not the "right" way to use it.
the OP6 works perfectly you can connect and disconnect how many times you want it never fails!
let's wait for next oxygen updates and maybe also google patches for their SW .... thanks again for sharing your experience!
Here is an update, after some time trying various combinations, I realized this device works perfectly the first time you connect to the car, if you turn off the car for example to get some fuel for a few minutes or less, or if you disconnect the phone and reconnect it without waiting, op9p won't connect anymore, but if you wait like a quarter then it will work perfectly.... the old op6 is not doing like that!!!!
Anyway now I know how to make it work and I can handle it someway!
