My Xperia S seems to suffer from many signal drops through the day, not just a low signal but complete loss, then a short time later the signal comes back.
Anyone else experiencing this?
Mine does this.. but i do live in an area with a not so great signal.
Contacted provider?
Searched in google, forums etc ?
What phone do you got before the xps? Same provider?

Me, O2 on a SE Xperia Mini Pro.
I still have it actually, and never had network drop outs. But im now on Vodaphone so cant really compare the two to each other as they are not the same network.. or even on the same masts where i live.
There is 3 masts where i am, 1 is vodafone and t-mobile, 1 is o2 and orange and the last one is three.
Three signal here is so bad you cant connect indoors.
O2 is fantastic yet t-mobile is not that great and neither is orange.
Vodafone seems ok, almost as good as O2 so far.
But as said, I get a few dropouts now and then
This has been a persistent problem on the arc, don't tell me on xperia s.
That would be one reason why I would not upgrade if that is the case.

I had this problem in bad signal area, I solved locking on wdcma only net.
I have this very issue in my arc but not with SXS. The signal is fantastic.
[Out of topic]Between the arc's issue can be solved by flashing a different baseband which I did and still using with different SIM on the same service provider.

Yes, Yes and Yes! It doesnt seem to be a widespread problem from what I read so far.
Before this I had Nokia N900, Acer Liquid Metal, iPhone 4, and Samsung Galaxy S2 (currently sick waiting on main board).
All suffered from the hold the phone a certain way and the signal drops (though the iPhone the worst) but none dropped out completely just sitting on desk!
I upgraded mine to 73 thinking it might fix it, but its just the same.
I dont live in an area thats great for signal as its semi rural.
Best phone for signal was my N900

To be honest I am a bit disappointed in the Xperia S. I think as their first proper Sony phone for many years I would have expected them to think it through a bit more...the buttons at the bottom could be more responsive and I have found it a bit laggy

You live in a similar rural kind of area to me....I think maybe its the phone looking for a 3G signal and not getting a good enough one so switching back to 2G, but I would have expected it to retain a connection all the time.
Technology is supposed to have improved lol
I have this problem on my Xperia S on Vodafone (UK) and it seems to happen in areas where the phone is frequently switching between 2G and 3G. Oddly it's only started since I upgraded to ICS, never happened on GB.
any light on this problem ?
I am using 2G and it happens pretty often.
My phone was a gift and I dont think it has been bought from my country although its not branded. Prior to JB I had .55. Any advice ? It's pretty annoying as it affects both internet and calls, ussually lasts ~1 minute.
I live in an area with good signal and my last phone did not present with this issue
same issues for me as well, but the issues are more persistent in India !!
come on... dont want to change the phone
up
Try changing baseband, or wait 28. Weak for new JB update.

Hello,
I appeal to all the users that have samsung galaxy s4 mini duos (i9192) to give me a honest opinion on their experience usage about this issue
I want to buy the phone because i have 2 sims, work and home and need both always on but i've been read that this phone has major problems with network signal such as:
"Poor network performance. I'm forced to restart 4 to 5 times per day to regain the network access. I checked from my service providers, no issues on their part. Dual Sim a failure. Apart from network issues, the design, ram performance are average. I'll recommend not to buy this instrument unless the dual-sim network problem is rectified."
Like this, there are many more in samsung phone forum.
Anyone can give me their opinion?
False. I'm using it without problems with two sims work/private. Signal strength may be lower, but it's not so bad. Device is very fast, in antutu it has more points than 4 core htc one x+ or galaxy s3.
Software is bit buggy, but nothing serious.

Yes, i have read many reviews and all shows very good results. But if you go to http://reviews.in.samsung.com/7463-en_in/GT-I9192ZWAINU/samsung-galaxy-s4-mini-reviews/reviews.htm you will see the very bad opinions.
Seems that the phone in bad coverage areas lost signal and don't regain signal unless you restart the phone or the network. Have you already been in bad coverage areas?
It will regain signal. For example yesterday - I was in underground parking lot and signal was very poor to none, but somehow I've got the incoming call when moving to other spot.
Maybe it's firmware related. I've updated manually to amh2 version through odin. Mine new csc is ser - Russia

Anyone else that has not experienced this problems?
I would like to know this also, I'm considering buying it solely because of the "Dual Sim" but I keep reading lots of people complaining about the signal issues.
I dont have any problems with my I9192 been in my hands for 2 months by now the network problem you describe it's very rare just couple of times since I've been using it but I've turn on and off airplane mode
for me it's a really good phone

Same problem
I also have the duos version. Once the signal is lost/falls in the dead spot region, it doesn't come back a automatically. Fed up with this.. after buying such a high end phone, restarting all the time to get network! What is the use of fast processor and all stuff if we can't make a phone call with it? And after reading the comments on the below page, it is clear that this is a known issue of the model:
gsmarena.com/samsung_i9190_galaxy_s4_mini-reviews-5375.php
Any solution for this? The handset has turned out to be useless.
I have not had a problem like this with mine, it works perfect. I live in a bad signal area and if I go down stairs in my house the phone will lose the signal , when I go back up stairs the phone always regains the signal with no problems.
I can't fault this phone, it's ten times better than my last one, HTC Desire V

Thanks,
Only the fact that you mentioned you have to do airplane mode 2 times is just severe enough, because in a phone with this price range that's a problem that should NEVER occur, and you can be the lucky guy that just has good coverage signal all of the time.
I came to the conclusion that it happens with much moore models than the ones that not happen.
I'm going to order the phone even with this feedback hoping that i have a flash of luck and my phone doesn't have the problems, because i've been waiting months for a dual sim phone with top performance and this seems to be the ideal phone to me.
I will post my experience here, if anything goes wrong i will try to sell it.

Same Issue with Samsung GT-I9192
Hi All,
I am facing the same issue with my Samsung GT-I9192, which I purchased on 1st Sep.
I am using 2 simcards, one being Vodafone and the other Idea, India region.
Surprisingly the issue is only with Vodafone, where the signal after dropping (very frequently) does not refresh.
In case of Idea simcard, the signal refresh is working fine.
I am not able to understand if the problem is with the service provider, sim card, hardware or the software.
I used my vodafone simcard with Galaxy Core (another dual sim phones), and they seem to work fine,
which gets me all the more confused.
The only difference that I notice is in the Mobile Network Type.
Its EDGE:2 for Vodafone and UMTS:3 for Idea, wonder if this has got anything to do with the network issues.
I did the default available 2 firmware upgrades since purchase, they seem to have worsened the problems.
Let me know if you are facing the same issue, with the same service provider.
Need to keep a close watch on the solution, as it seems to be affecting more people than expected, surprisingly couldn't find any issues a month back during the time of purchase....
Regards,
Varun

In my case, it's Vodafone also, but is in Western Europe.
My concern is that i have exactily the same problem in my present phone (Sony Tipo Dual) and it's the main reason (along side the big improve of speed and etc) for buying this phone. At the present, people call to me and they say that phone answers occupied (no network signal) and i look to the phone and it shows top signal strenght. I'm beginning to think that dual sim phones with android have some limitations (maybe antenna limitations).

thats true it should never occur, i think its implementation problem, android its not mean to be for dual sim phones the solution for dual sim on android its a samsung workarround, it should not be buggy but has some problems it does not make the phone unusable for me, I don't get coverage all the time, I travel from city to city and get poor coverage all the way so i think its not a big issue since it happen just a few times.

Hi Sriram,
My problem is very similar, Vodafone on either sim slots gives network problems, and Idea on either sim slots works fine. That makes me think that the problem must be hardware / software related to Network type. Its EDGE2 for vodafone and GPRS1 for Idea. What is the network type of your sim cards?
Phone defect.. Not related to Sim card

I use idea in the first slot and BSNL in the second slot. The trouble occurs with BOTH SIM. Earlier I used idea -Vodafone pair, the problem was still there. I live in am area where all operators have weak/varying coverage. Airtel and aircel have already been reported as showing same problem. All the users are affected with this issue, so it is clear that this has nothing to do with the operator, it is a fault of the phone either hardware or software. I think you have idea Sim working fine only means idea network is better in your area and may not need frequent network cell changeover. (?) And another fact we can see from the reports is, that, almost ALL THE COMPLAINTS have been reported from INDIA where the model released is the duos.
S4 Mini Network issues.
I too have a S4 Mini for less than a month and I am also facing network issues. One thing to notice is that the sim with internet doesn't have issues. Irrespective of which slot it is in. Currently I have Vodafone IN on Sim 1 and Airtel on 2 (with 3G). Airtel works fine and Voda has issues.
I did speak to Samsung care, they were very nice, however the problem wasn't solved, I have been adviced to go to Samsung service center and get the S/w reimaged.
I still haven't done that, however what I did was to reset the phone and while I was browsing on the play store I got a software called "Where is my Signal" by Grey Boy. For some reason I feel it is working fine now. I have not had any issue from last evening, baring one time when I was on a long conf call for around 150 mins today. else it has been working fine and receiving calls on both sims too.
I had used this software to refresh the network once, it has helped me, not sure if this is going to sustain but for now it is good.
If some one else also has this software installed and is finding this to solve the issues kindly post the same on the forum and may be helpful.
Will repost tomorrow again with the status.
BTW I agree to many opinions in this thread that Samsung should have done some testing or atleast after many of these issues coming up needed to provide a patch upgrade.

I had tried three apps of that kind: where is my signal, network booster(marcstealth), and network refresher lite. None of them could overcome the strange problem of this phone though at first they seemed to be working. Another question is, how do we know when to refresh network? If we know the signal is lost, we can restart or do something like that. Then there is one more issue: sometimes it shows good/full signal strength, but when try to make a call, will realize that it was false! I made to run the network booster app run when signal is low, using tasker app -but we are not supposed to live such a life using this celebrated costly handset.
But one thing in your post is of much importance. DID THAT RESET WORK? You haven't said much about that.

The reason for reset was to ensure that none of the softwares I had installed were causing the issue. The reset didn't change much compared to the way it was earlier.
Some observations of when the problem actually happens (again this is my observation and doesn't need to be the same in your case)
> When I am on a long incoming call on the sim which has Internet.
> Noticed that short calls don't impact the network.
> If there is a call drop imm after you receive a call.
I am planning to get the phone firmware re-imaged from the service center however I will need atleast 10 more days to do it as I am currently in a different city and I am not carrying the invoice copy.
BTW Rajesh, did u get any response from the CEOs office?

I will be coming from a Note 3 which was perfect until the Kitkat update. I now have horrible signal and am sick of it. I live in a rural area and want to make sure the Note 4 does not have the same issues before I spend another $700 on a phone (I have unlimited data). Thanks!

every phone is different since most of them have different CPU and antenna. it's too soon to tell though as most folks haven't even received their pre orders yet.
I have this question as well. I'll be coming from an S3, and it has terrible signal strength. It's the one thing that I've always hated about the S3. I'll be interested to see everyone's results.
My N3 had terrible reception, I moved to LG G3 which was much better. I switched to new N4 yesterday and this phone outperforms both on signal strength. I don't drop data or voice anywhere I used to with the previous 2 phones.

It is still early but initial impressions seem to be positive. I am fond of Motorola for their excellent radios. Coming from a moto x, I don't see any difference in signal. And comparing from my previous note 3, it seems to have improved in my area.
Worse case is that if it doesn't work well in your area, you should be able to return the phone and get something else without incurring a restocking fee. I was hesitant since I wanted to wait for the droid turbo but since playing with the note 4, I'm keeping it. Good luck.
Im having a few signal issues i only get 1 bar some places but it doesnt seem to affect call quality

I had a note 3 that held a LTE signal at 2 bars very well at my house until the 4.4.4 update, after that update it would be one 3g most of the time.
I got my note 4 yesterday and had it all day and it never once dropped to 3g, It held the LTE signal very well.
The note 4 is definitely better than the note 3 as far as signal quality.
I can verify this because I just bought a note 4 coming from a note 3. I was unable to get service in my house where I lived as well as many other places I should have. I bought the note 4 yesterday and all my service issues have been fixed. So yes the signal is much better.

using note 4 today and best service i have had to date. phone has great dbm and first speedtest pulled 47 mbps download!!!
My Verizon N4 so far has slightly better signal than my LG G3, which had good service to begin with. No complaints so far with signal strength / net speed. So far my only complaint is the message + lag when taking a photo indoors. Reminds me of the annoying image stabilization option on the S5 that slowed the camera way down

This shouldn't be a concern on a different device, as Android isn't like Windows (in that a specific version is compatible on all PCs). The firmware (OS) on your device is tailor made for that device, and because of this, the concern you have about signal quality on the Note 4 vs the Note 3 isn't valid (not that it's not a valid concern, but that it doesn't apply). This is why you can't flash firmware from one model to a different model, and the only way for you to garnish an answer is by either speaking to someone in your area that has a Note 4 on VZW or buy a Note 4. I'm not sure if the Note 3 had the ability, but from the Note 4 settings it appears that you make Google Voice your default phone service... not just for dialing, but for receiving as well. I can't verify this, as I haven't tried it out yet, however it would help in your situation. As far as signal goes, I've had no issues with my Note 4 since buying it.
Something to consider... the Nexus 6 comes out next month and one of the unique features it has, over that of the bootloader being unlocked, is that is is the first smartphone with a hot swappable SIM... meaning you can buy it on Verizon and switch at random with other U.S. CDMA and GSM carriers by simply swapping SIMs. The only two differences between the Note 4 and the NX6 is the NX6 has a 13MP camera vs that of the 16MP on the Note 4 and it doesn't come with a S Pen (it also doesn't have the novelty features like a heartbeat monitor or UV exposure reader)... hardware is all the same, quad core 2.7Ghz processor, 3GB of RAM, rapid charge, etc. I'm assuming you have Verizon here, but you know you don't have to pay full retail upfront right? Because manufacturer's and carriers can't test for every variable, occasionally a firmware update will cause an issue with signal viability... have you informed Verizon of the issue, as well as made Samsung aware?
Something else to keep in mind... Android 5.0 [Lollipop] will be released to the Note 4 within a few months, and if you prefer a rooted device, then I would caution against buying anything other than the NX6, as it is highly improbable rooting will be possible on bootloader locked devices running Android 5... is it impossible, no; highly improbable, yes. Checkout ChainFire's Google+ post from 10/18 or 10/19 for an indepth explanation as to why.
This phone gets FANTASTIC reception! Better then iPhone 5 which dropped 4g all the time and better then even my Galaxy S5. MUCH better then the Note 3 which has about the same Signal issues as the iphone 6......
I have a iPhone 6plus and note 4 and my note isn't getting more then two bars when my iPhone is getting 4...could my phone be faulty?

Thanks guys for the feedback. I understand that signal problems with one phone are unrelated to signal issues with another phone. I was just giving my background that I don't want to go down the road I have with the N3.
Asking about signal issues with the National is a valid question.

So I setup my new Note 10+ Verizon Blue model and the first call I got at home, the other party mentioned that my phone sounded garbled. I went to make a few test calls, and every other one dropped. Websites would time out before loading unless I was on Wi-Fi. Speed tests gave me latency errors and 0 upload speed. Outdoors, the phone works great, but indoor reception and even when held a certain way causes a fast drop in signal. I moved the SIM card back to my Note 9 to compare the signal and here's what I found.
Note 9: -99 dBm to -106 dbm 29-35 asu (loads websites just fine and calls immediately go through)
Note 10+: -106 dBm to -116 dBm 99 asu (loads websites after 10+ seconds or they timeout, calls take 10-20 seconds to connect)
Apparently the 99 asu means that the signal is too weak calculate usability. Technical support spent over an hour with me testing every possible solution, even activating another SIM card. Either there is a very serious problem with the towers, and/or the Note 10+ has poor signal compared to the Note 9. Hopefully, it's not the latter because the phone is amazing and faster in every other way. Has anyone else noticed weaker signal?

I noticed I was having issues in a place that I didn't have a great signal before but no issues with streaming on my note 9. Could barely pull up websites on my phone. I swapped my firmware from unlocked to TMobile. I'm gonna run that for a few days and see how it does.
I've been using my note 10+ and noticed I disconnect in some spots on WiFi I didn't previously. I do think there will be some models with bad signal. It's impossible to prevent all lemons. That being said, sometimes carrier networks and towers don't give the full story until afterwards. Were there any network outages that day? How does WiFi calling work for you?
Noticed the dam thing ..I can see the tower from my bedroom...my pixle 3 has full bars and we're as my note has 1 maybe 2 !!!

What you describe is what I was experiencing on my Unlocked N10+ using an ATT Sim.
I flashed the ATT firmware/bloatware & My N10+ now works as good if not better than my N9.

I'm using Verizon with Verizon firmware. There is definitely an issue with the network. The tower is a block away and even my Note 9 is getting slower data, but it works. The Note 10+ times out completely. Friends an family have confirmed the same issue. That 7-10 dBm difference in signal between the Note 9 and 10+ is apparently enough to cause weak signal to become no usable signal. I may swap it out and see if that helps.

Don't waste anymore time. Exchange it immediately. Brand spanking new phone should not do that.

i'm having similar troubles. Unlocked Note + on T-mobile. The connection is just not what it used to be on my note 9 & it seems to have an affect on on battery. I enjoy the unlocked firmware for all that it is, but I didn't think I'd be sacrificing my data speeds for things like Truecaller and a bloat-free device
i have a verizon note10+ with verizon firmware and my service has actually been better then it was on my note 8

I'm testing this now on mine. Yeah I'm noticing in places where it was marginal for me, now my device is struggling a little. I flashed to T-Mobile yesterday. Checking it out now
Yeah im on Verizon as well and have noticed signal issues with both cell and wifi ..... I have a mesh network at home and this phone doesnt mesh very well just disconnects and reconnects
Went to VZW guy said I was the 3rd person today to complain about this issue .... Went back to my pixle 3

Really hoping this isn't a thing but I'll be damned if my speeds haven't been trash on T-Mobile
So Verizon had a confirmed semi-outage in the Los Angeles area which led to dropped calls and data timeouts which has been mostly fixed. I got a new SIM card and now the Note 10+ is getting within 3 dBm of the Note 9, and data speeds are comparable. So, yes the Note 9 got SLIGHTLY more stable reception but the Note 10+ still loads pages faster. What a weekend to have network issues with everyone blaming their new phones.
Yeah I have had noticeably worse signal than my oneplus 7 pro on Verizon. Really thinking about returning this thing
Hmm, exynos here. Not too good a signal here either in the UK with EE carrier
Verizon here with unlocked Note 10+ and getting same speeds as other S10 devices and XS Max.
Something isn't right with others.
Or I'm lucky?

Same here, unlocketd note 10+, I ignore bars, but if anything my coverage and bandwidth have improved with this phone. On XM(Verizon)

That's odd. I really want to like this phone but my speed is literally less than 1 mbps. That's so bad compared to getting around 10-15 easily with my oneplus 7 pro!
This kinda makes the phone unusable

Yeah the wifi reception on the note 10 seems to be terrible compared to my other devices.

Did your speeds increase with changing firmware? My note 10+ gets less than 1mbps where my oneplus 7 pro would easily get 10-15 mbps easily. Super disappointed in this phone so far.

Yeah, I wonder if it's a software glitch, or if it really is a hardware isssue. Looking at the teardowns of the note 10 and 10 plus I don't see why it would be a hardware issue.
Came from Unlocked Note20 Ultra which I had zero issues with cellular reception on Verizon.
Bought the Unlocked Z Fold3 and have terrible cellular reception in nearly all places I never had issues on the Note20 Ultra.
Are the antenna bands different?
Is the new metal back or frame drastically reducing range?

You got a bad phone. No issues on mine, same as S21ULTRA, and note 20
Try to change your SIM. It helped me.
I also changed the N20U to the FZ3 and I did not notice anything like that. I think the FZ3 has an even better coverage than the Note.
The only difference is that it switches more often from LTE to 3G, thus VoLTE turns off. But it's generally very good.
BTW WiFi coverage is much better.
I'm having the same type of issues. T-mobile here in areas where I had solid 5G or LTE I either have no service or it flips to edge/lte/5g. Probably going to send it back at this point.
Im tmobile and all is the same or better then my notw 10 plus was.
I did get a new sim card for 5g

I used the new sim card from Samsung as well R15. I had T-Mobile do a reset from their end and I did a factor reset and didn't use smart switch this time. I'm going to be traveling today so we'll see if it happens again. Fingers crossed.
T-Mobile in north Texas. I'm getting the same results as my Note 10+ did, using the same sim. 5G data is very fast. May be an issue with yours.
Can we say either way about the cellular performance?
Has anyone seen a video comparing F2 vs F3 cellular performance?

Don't use SmartSwitch if migrating to a different device or OS version... its not that smart.
Probably ok for migrating just your contacts though.
Next reload on my 10+ I'll test it same to same and see how it does. Definitely don't use it to back up critical data though... remember Kies?
AT&T in N Texas, from N20U to ZF3...Same. I get some network issues occasionally.
You might need a new sim, I'm thinking about doing that myself.
My fold is also the unlocked from Sammy.

New sim, install yourself, handle it like a stick of ram.
ESD can damage it; very little built in out of circuit protection. Most phone store salespeople handle them extremely carelessly... you pay the price when it fails sometimes even months, years latter. Most sim cards fail because of previous ESD exposure just like ram sticks.

Oh, I'm familiar. Build computers before, always upgrade my RAM myself, and have 3 Pi's running 3D printers. But that info is always helpful to someone.
I've noticed this too in low coverage areas. My oneplus 7t

Why not? I used smart switch with no issues at all. Transferred everything from my oneplus 7t to the z fold 3. All it does is transfer general data and install the apk files that were on your previous data partition. It doesn't transfer any device specific apps or files.
Please back up your comments with reason and/or experience so you don't have people questioning things that they then have to spend ample time looking up

Lots of needlessly destroyed ram sticks out there...
Sims may have some input protection but you see how small they are.

I've seen it screw up myself with contacts.
Seen it's predecessor Kies screw up.
If it works, fine, but don't rely on it.
It can save home settings, themes, etc and that can cause issues especially between devices.
Don't kill the messenger... others here have had trouble with it as well
It is not clear to me whether all problem are with 5G reception, 4G, or switching between the two.
I'm having terrible reception issues with my Z3. My network keeps shutting off and on. USA Verizon.
I have to undo what I wrote early. The Z3 has serious coverage problem. Very often, the signal goes missing, or the 3G-4G-5G networks switch like crazy
Broken record poster asks if this is a VZW problem in the US, or a bigger problem?
Also, there are problems with the phone folded or open?
