Hi guys
Just got my Redmi Note 5 Global version, and after 24h of use, I noticed 2 "issues"
1- Brightness isn't really good, in normal lighting I need to increase the slider to 50% just to get decent brightness. I had the Redmi Note 4 and it was way brighter. I figure this is software related as I saw someone saying that this issue doesn't exist in LOS 15.1. Can someone confirm?
2- For some weird reason, when I'm doing something on the phone, whether opening an app, website, downloading an app..etc, the phone randomly vibrates two short vibrations (like those when receiving a gmail notification), but with no notifications received, it just vibrates for nothing. This is really weird as it never happened on my Redmi Note 4. Anyone has an idea about this?
Thanks!
I can confirm both but I don't know the reason

when miui optimalisation is disabled, there is often a system notification saying that an app is using battery.
Maybe with optimalisation enabled, the notification is hidden but not the vibration ?

Don't think so, since I have MIUI optimization enabled for all apps.

It's the optimalisation in developer options. Not in app settings.
And my point was that Maybe it vibrates when optimalisation is enabled. But when it is disabled it vibrates AND shows a notification.

I disabled the memory optimization in dev options but it still vibrates and shows no notifications. This is driving me crazy.
I'm definitely not the only one having this
https://c.mi.com/thread-1078800-1-0.html
I have the notification problem as well. I have identified it using a notification logger app. It seems that it's related to some contacts being synchronized to Google. The logged notification reads "Contact Storage - Accounts changed". The notification comes from com.android.providers.contacts.
I have tried disabling notifications to the Contact app and even turning off Google Synchronization completely, but this doesn't solve the issue. Do you have any suggestion now that the culprit is identified?
I purchased my device with 9.5.6.0 (Oreo 8.1) right out of the box.
I can't compare much with old ROM.
There are one annoying bug which is when I take selfie with flash in a dark room, the photo is so blur.
What's the purpose of the front flash actually?

EDIT: Thanks to @gewa2001 for the solution. Apparently, the Smart Manager app is whats causing it. If you're not rooted then try to disable it or if youre rooted then you can just Uninstall or Freeze it with RomToolbox and it should fix all the screen freezes.
So i just recently installed the N750XXUDOK5 Firmware for N750 on my Indian variant of the phone. Everything seems to be working just fine except i've been experiencing some screen freezes. Like, it just so happens that im using something and it just suddenly freezes for 4-5 Seconds and then starts working fine. And it happens quite frequently so its kind of annoying.
Also, i dunno if its related but i've noticed it usually happening when i receive a message on whatsapp, just as i get a message a bunch of whatsapp icons pop up on the status bar and then merge into one which then displays a Heads up notification and causes the screen to freeze.
Is anyone else having a similar issue/ is there any way to fix this ?

Same here: occasionally system slow or even frozen since 5.1.1 (no factory reset, but debloated and rooted). Mostly on lockscreen, around twice a day. I switched off the new "app optimization" feature in the new 'Smart Manager' today. No more screen freeze since then. What's YOUR observations?

oh now that i think about it, the smart manager might just be whats causing the freezes otherwise it should've been fixed on 5.1.1. how did you switch it "off" though, i dont see any option to

How to switch off 'app optimization' within the SmartManager app (I got the German language version, so your tags might be called slightly different in English language) : tap on the 'battery' quadrant, then on 'details', then switch to 'off' by using the upper right on/off slider.

Aha. For some reason the Smart Manager app on my phone doesn't have any sliders but i froze the app via Rom toolbox and the rom seems to be not freezing anymore
Guess thats what was making it freeze. Thanks!

Hello, i just bought ny Nexus 5X a month ago and i really need some help with some of it's issues:
• Adaptive-Brightness, it's faulty on this phone, coming from an Iphone, where it works perfect, it's really hard to understand how such a simple function has problems working on this phone.
• Notifications, they always come slow, like after a few minutes from when you should normally get them, this is truly unacceptable, because there are times when things need to be done quick and I'm being held back because of this issue. I heard Dose causes this, but ive set it to not interfere with some apps but notifications come in the same, late.
• Facebook Messenger - whenever I open this app, I stay like 3-4 minutes looking at the screen with the contacts for it to load, and it's loading and loading and sometimes I need to restart it, what's up with that?
Anyone else has these problems? If so, please help, maybe it's something wrong with my unit.

-its software issue, download an app about that. its fixed in android N (it would be nice if they fixed it in M too...)
-if you also have the said programs in pc they sometimes interfere. i have noticed that while there is a short delay (2-5s) between pc and phone, sometimes messages take many minutes to arrive. i am not sure what causes that, and i cant remember if it happens both ways :/
-never had such problem, but i have deleted facebook apps anyway. mobile site is fine and you can send messages without messanger anyway. if you use google chrome it even notifies you (also works for firefox in pc but not android)

While I agree that adaptive brightness is slow on the N5x it's still working fine for me. Did you check reportings of your light sensor?
You can fix your notification problem by setting the apps that you need immediate notification from to be excluded from Doze.
Battery > "more" tab top right corner > battery optimisation (not sure of the exact term as I use German android) > show "all apps" > change apps that you want to be excluded from Doze by marking "don't optimise"
Using fb via their mobile webside, so can't comment there.
I did the Doze part, notifications don't change.I really don't get why would they add features that interfere with something so important as notifications.

Hi guys,
I updated ota to OOS 4.0.1 at the weekend and on the whole, I'm pretty satisfied.
There is one little niggle that I have which is the ambient display waking seemingly without cause every few minutes, even when in airplane mode!
I suppose I could turn it off but I quite like the feature. Any ideas as to what could be happening?
For info, I'm running stock, never rooted.

There are no settings for ambient display so sadly there's nothing you can do. You can either turn off ambient display or get rid of ALL notifications. While there is anything, the screen will keep turning on. It's annoying, yes ...
Would be great if they made ambient display ignore low priority notifications (which persistent are). Maybe try raising a ticket with OnePlus and requesting a change in next update. Can't hurt

I kindda had similar issues. it was on 4.0 maybe. I'm not sure. then flashed 4.0.2, it's okay now.
Two Verizon Note 8s in this house. Neither one is handling notifications well. We're coming from two Note 4s that never had any issues with notifications.
Issues:
1. I have twitter, facebook, gmail installed and am using the Verizon messenger app. My phone generally makes sounds when I get a notification, but the notification light only blinks every once in a while. I don't use AOD, so I rely on the notification light to tell me when I have notifications. There have been times when my phone has been idle for an hour or two where I don't get notifications until I turn on the screen.
2. Wife's phone. She gets a lot more notifications than I do. She is having problems with notifications not coming in after the phone sits idle for a few hours. Once the phone screen is turned back on, all of the notifications come rushing in and she gets a ton of alert sounds in a row.
I have not been able to figure out what's going on with this. I checked to make sure that do not disturb is turned off. Neither one of us use it.
Is this a software issue, or something that we're not doing correctly? On Note 4, notifications just worked. There wasn't anything special needed.
Thanks

It may be a software issue. this affects the S8/S8+ also. More and more reports on notifications not coming through especially text.
Sent from my Nexus 5X using Tapatalk
So, if it is on the S8/S8+, then it's unlikely that they'll ever do anything useful to fix it?
Notifications are the one thing that I hate about this phone. They're completely unreliable and I have to turn on my phone to check and make sure that I didn't have anything come in. It's the one thing that makes me miss my Note 4.
I have this problem since Nougat on all my devices. For me it was the power saving features, forgot exactly which one, but it basically shut down the apps totally until I woke the phone up.
Just an edit to my post. When I pickup or awake the device all my notifications come through at once , is that what you are talking about ?
If you find a solution let me know.

Yes. In my case, it is not always picking up notifications for GMail. I tried to add GMail to the list of unmonitored apps, and it was not available. I'm not sure what else I can do.

It's on. It notifies sometimes, but if the phone has been in standby for a while, it stops. It definitely seems like a doze issue.
Same problems here
Notifications hit or miss. I have disabled all the power saving options, disabled all the restrictions on the individual apps, disabled all the data restrictions on the apps. Everything I could think of. Once the phone has been sitting for about 10 minutes on the desk, it seems to just go to sleep. Nothing comes through until I pick it up and start doing something with it. Then the notifications all seem to come in at once. This seems to hold true for any messaging app, email, etc. This is a horrible problem.

My wife is having the same issue, but on a Sprint Note 8. When she opens her phone in the morning she get's a bunch of notifications pouring in from several different apps. So since y'all are VZW and we're Sprint it has to be specific to the phone and not the network. this has me worried because it's text messages and everything if she hasn't touched the phone in an hour or more.

Since last week notifications wont come through when the device is idling. I have paired it with a Garmin Fenix 5x and set it to pass the important notifications via Smart Notifications to the watch.

It's annoying, but you have to do three things for Notifications to always work 100%. I'm on 8.8.9 eu weekly and this is still needed. It's an Oreo 8.1 problem for battery saving:
1) Auto start
2) Battery optimization: no restrictions (this actually might be unnecessary but I do it anyway in case my phone battery gets too low)
3) Most important step unfortunately: LOCK the app in Recents (hold it and press lock icon).

Ok, i finaly solved it.
It was the Nova launcher together with the Tesla unread app that had not the right permissions.
Mine:
1) Auto start
2) Battery optimization: no restrictions (this actually might be unnecessary but I do it anyway in case my phone battery gets too low)
From above
3) Installed App > {App_name} > Notifications >
Then
'Show notifications' : enabled
Importance : High or above
App Icon badge : enabled
4) If 3 still didn't work, try rooting your phone then convert it into system app
Not sure if this exists in every miui but I found Turn off MIUI optimization this morning while browsing the settings app and had no idea what it did.
I flipped the switch and now I get all notifications imminently:

Its a cpu bug on xiaomi defected device or maybe how XIAOMI/ANDROID configure its android system/power saving mechanism..it happens to many users but not all..After few findings, theres a lot of xiaomi defected cpu device and sadly enough ive got it on Rn5 pro, mi max 2 and now mi max 3 even Huawei got this problem too..Hope xiaomi/huawei will fix this in the future..Anyway after few research, finding and wasted times, the problem was its system PARTIAL WAKE LOCK was not configured correctly and it is really in deep sleep..this issue will cause in late notification at lockscreen after you leave your phone for several minutes, got led light blinking but no sound, no notification at all, etc which effect some users including me..i tried many things to fix this by changing roms, aosp or xiaomi eu, kernels, disabling doze etc but to no vail until i found this app CPU Awake inside google play store..install it and configure this app with no restriction, autorun and locked it in recent..and youll get all your notification back on lockscreen instantly..there is also no significant battery decrease by using this app (been using this app for quite a few years now)..Even though it has, its a better trade off than not receiving notification at all..you can remove this app from recent after all set up then reboot the settings will applied automatically..never touch the apps again if you want too, good luck and give some feedback..
