In the stock roms, the only way to lock the screen is with the power button. What I want to achieve is to lock screen screen like maybe double tap home button to sleep.
There are 3rd party launcher or app that could do this, however intelligent unlock is disabled and must use pin/pattern ect. There used to be a way to bypass device admin/security policy or something.
But anyway, how can I do this while using the stock roms? This is something the power of root can solve right?
EDIT: it's okay guys, found out RiCE roms allows this bypass somehow and it's close to stock, so gonna use this rom for now. I use 3rd party screen off app and set as assistance app, therefore hold home buttom for lock, kinda buggy but works I guess.
Nova Launcher can lock the screen with a double tap or whatever you choose
No way to bypass lock screen security that I know of (security risk) but you could just turn it off, it's about as safe lol

On my iPhone I had a password set but would only be asked for it if the phone was locked for over an hour. What I want is to be able to use the slide to unlock if the phone was locked for less than an hour and a pin or pattern when it's been more than an hour. Is this possible? I know I can set it to ask me for pattern, pin etc and the max time could be 30mins which is also fine but then the screen wouldn't be locked and I might press things by mistake. This just doesn't make sense to me.
I've flashed the Gummy ROM and they just came out with a new feature where you can have the standard swipe lock screen (with multiple apps on it) appear before the pin lock/pattern lock screen.
The problem is that both lock screens will appear or neither lock screen will appear when applicable. For example, if you have a long sleep before lock period of time set, neither lock screen may appear when you turn the screen on. Or if you turn off the screen manually, then both lock screens will appear. In other words, I don't see a way to separate the two screens from each other and give them each different time out periods.
I suspect that there is nothing in the android system that would allow this to happen automatically, but perhaps something could be worked out with a custom timer. Perhaps you can speak to the developers over at Gummy and see if they have any suggestions or if they are planning a similar thing in a future release.

Probably could use the app Tasker if you are rooted. Would require a lot of setting up though.

Hey guys,
Can help to check this out? If you leave your phone after 1min of inactivity to sleep, and you power on the phone, you won't hit the lockscreen. Instead, you will go to the last used application that you are at previously.
Can help check this out, 4.0.4 stock rom user here.
Thanks in advance.

He's saying if you let the screen "time out" there's no lock screen, but if you turn off the screen with the PWR button, there is a lock screen.
Okay, little bit of a bug. I noticed this earlier too. Think of this scenario to recreate the problem:
1) Under "Security", set up a pattern lock. It will let you select a time to "Automatically lock". Set it to "1 minute after sleep".

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
2) Go back to a "Slide" unlock style. You'll notice the "Automatically lock" and "Power button instantly locks" options disappear.
3) Let the screen time out, you won't get a lock screen unless you power the screen off with the actual PWR button.
It seems that even though the "Automatically lock" option is only visible when using a security PIN or Pattern, the setting you select while in that mode persists after you've gone back to the "Slide" method.
Definitely a bug, but easily remedied. Switch to a Pattern lock and change the setting back:
Hope that helped.
Thanks! It helps!
I just picked up my 10 after having an S7 for a while and I really like it. One thing that I'm still confused about is the fingerprint sensor. I have a pattern setup along with my prints. If I leave then phone for a while and press my finger on the pad I'm asked to input the pattern. Then once I do I can unlock then phone with any finger by just pressing the home button.
It seems to defeat the purpose of having a fingerprint sensor if it always prompts me for my swipe pattern.
Am I missing something in how I have it setup?

that doesn't sound right!
pattern is asked at first unlock after every reboot but only once till you reboot again.... it seems like your fingerprint isn't set up yet? could you share a screen of fingerprint sensor app? and security settings?

I'm using Nova and have a double tap to sleep gesture but I've deleted them both and the issue still is happening. I've also deleted all gestures with no luck

Hi Mpetruzz,
I was about to ask if you use Nova as that is what caused this issue for me.
Do you have any other apps controlling sleep or power saving?
If you allow the phone to timeout after 15 minutes (as per your settings) does it happen then?
What about when you use the power button to lock your phone?
Turns out it was the lockscreen app I was using. Uninstalled it, rebooted and its working fine now.

I'm new to Nova Launcher, and to be honest 3rd party launchers in general. And the only question I have so far while using Nova is that once I'm in my app drawer hitting my home button closes the app drawer and zooms me out to see all screens I have with the option of wallpaper, widget or app to add to a screen. Rather than just taking me to my homepage like the home button does from any other screen.
Is this normal? is there a way to have hitting home from the app drawer just take me to my homepage?
You can turn that off in Nova settings. Its in gesture and inputs

Thanks all, that did it. :good:
Actually, in doing that I lose the option to double tap the home button to bring up those options such as apps, widgets and wallpaper. Looking under gestures though the toggle is on that says "return to default page on first tap, action on second" but there is no thing from the second.
The only time it seems to work as the settings suggest is if you have more than 1 screen. Once I created a blank screen to the right of my default page then it worked as it should. With just one it doesn't.

This is how I have it set. Edit: it works better if you set home button to go to default page
Well my initial problem was fixed by setting the home button to the default screen. However if you have only 1 screen you then lose the ability to add screens and widgets, even if the toggle is 'on' that says double tapping the home button will still give you that option. But once you add a second blank screen that toggle switch enabling the action of double tapping the home button then works. So it has to be a bug, I just don't know if their aware of it or not because I suspect most people use more than 1 screen and have never noticed it doesn't work with 1.
When I double tap the screen it gets on but it also quickly gets off even before face unlocking the screen.
Specs :-
Android Q [10]
Rom MiUi 12 [IN-Stock]
Launcher Microsoft Launcher
Root - NO
Bootloader - NO
Try using the Double Tap app. You can adjust it's tap parameters. 2x tap on/off.
Runs flawlessly on Pie and Q.

Why? Double Tap needs no internet connection, freeware, uses almost zero battery... a perfect app. I use in in preference to my Samsung double tap option because it works better.

It's not the matter of resources, I generally prefer to use built-in options because they will be better optimised, trusted. The problem might be in proximity sensor because while making a call it automatically turns-off the screen. Intially I thought screen on sensor might be dirty but after cleaning the results are same.

I use whatever comes in handy.
You can firewall block this app if you want but it doesn't matter, in over a year it's never tried to access the internet. It doesn't even use enough battery to register usage. I don't have a screen lock so no permissions are needed, otherwise it needs to run as a System Administrator.
