I see the S9+ and the Samsung forums are full of people complaining about the same problem since March, you'd think something so simple would have been fixed by now?
All other volumes are fine, notifications for messages, whatsapp etc are very quiet, muffled and only play through the bottom speaker, ringtones play through both, media plays through both
Please state which CSC and firmware you are running so we can give Samsung the info for a fix

ARD1 firmware (April update)
i don't have your issues. yes my notification only play thru bottom speaker, i set the volume to a quarter because that's just enough for me.
tho i would say the top speaker volume too low, like unbalance in the loudness with bottom speaker.
G960F/ds
ARD6 firmware (may update)
I certainly don't have that problem either, I have to keep mine turned down a bit.

Still on Feb update

Prior to froyo, as far as i remember this was not the issue.
But now, even when I am on call, and received an SMS or any other notification of some kind, mobile will ring notification sound with default volume settings, which happens to be quite loud, especially if you are listening to a call?
Is there any solution for hits ?
i have this problem, i have to keep my volume really low in case i get a notification when on a call. sorry havn't found a fix but hopefully someone has come across this before
just bumping this and adding some more info. my phone used to be fine, i think its since the froyo OTA update. im going to try rooting etc if i cant get it fixed
The issue I am seeing is when music is being played on the phone and a call comes in, afterwards the music turns back on but only at half the volume. All volume indicators are at max and system sounds come through at that level. If I close the music player and re-launch the volume returns to what the phone is set at.
To put a bit of history into this issue, I had actually installed the vicious (I think) JB image on my phone back a while before it was officially released by verizon. With that release, I saw the exact same issue. I tend to listen to recorded music a lot during the day, so with this little glitch I took the phone back to ICS.
But now with the official release on the verizon network the exact same problem is happening. Mostly I have music recorded from DAR.fm and play it through that app. I do have some music in google music but can't quite remember how the details of it resuming after a call went.
So, while I'm querying the app dev guys for the various music programs I wanted to see if anybody else has seen this type of issue.
Thanks
I'm running CM10 and I notice the same issue but for notification sounds. When the sound alerts, it dims the music volume. Once the notification is done sounding, the music volume does not return to normal.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
Glad I'm not the only one seeing this.
I know issues brought up here have been noticed by the folks working on the official releases, but is there any system in place to report specific issues like this to either google dev or samsung?
There's an option in Settings > Sound I believe that sets the volume to half, it's called "Safe Headset Volume" try disabling that and see if it fixes your issue.
where exactly is this setting? I didn't see anything about headset volume anywhere in the sound settings panel.

This is only on CM10, just FYI.
ah ok. I am running the standard JB pushed out by verizon.

Sorry about that, I just know that, that was an exact feature on CM10. I don't know why it would be happening on stock unless this is a built in option to Android that is unconfigurable on stock.
Since I tried running a JB build before, and saw this exact same issue a few months before JB was even pushed out by VZ, I'm wondering if this is a bug pretty deep in JB regardless of the build. Never had the issue with ICS.
Which volume are you talking about? Speaker, headphones, or Bluetooth? I use BT audio for music in my car, and I have no problems after calls or after notification sounds (volume dims, then rises again). However I *do* have a problem where GPS is too quiet, even when music is loud.
This is music played by the Pandora app BTW.
I notice this issue when I am listening to audio through the phone speaker. Not the greatest but it's ok. I have had the phone hooked up to external speakers and it has done the same thing. I check the volume levels in settings and everything is full. Don't have any devices for playing BT audio so I can't try that one. The notification sounds and other system sounds do seem to be at the proper levels, just not the previous playing music.
I am assuming this is a bug relating to the volume transition post-call, but I'm no developer so I'm just identifying the obvious points.
The app I am using is the DAR.fm app for recorded radio shows.
Hi,
i got the Firmware Update from 14.5 today. Is there anywhere a changelog, what is new with this update??
Because after i installed it and the Surface rebooted the icons on Metro UI where smaler than before, so that there where one more icon in each column. After i started some apps and come back to the metro UI the icons where at the "normal" size, it was before the update. So was that only for me?? Should the icons be smaller, or what happend??
The smaller icons looked a bit better
Read http://www.microsoft.com/Surface/en-US/support/performance-and-maintenance/rt-update-history
Thanks, have the icons become smaller??

That's an oddity that happens occasionally, there's been a number of reports of it happening. If you want to have more icons there's a thread floating around here somewhere that has a registry tweak that can do it.
Thanks for the info.
But now i have an other real problem. When Hearing Music quietly the Sound changes all the time between a higher and lower Sound Level. Only when i have it loud enought the Sound has a constand volume. Thats realy annoying. Is there something known?
And it depens on the song i hear. For some Songs i Need to listen with volume louder than 8 for other it Need to be louder than 4 to have a constand volume. But it doesn't matter if it is YouTube app, in browser, or the Music app.
Only when using headphones there is no problem.
I hope you can help me.
I seem to have that problem too. When listening to music through the speakers at low volume it cuts in and out. Mainly near the end of a track. Thought it may be a buffering issue initially as was streaming, but it's the same with local files.
Quite unsatisfactory.
Yes that's exactly my problem. It depens on the song you listen. Is there a fix for that?? Does everybody have this problem??
The only solution I've found is to rock out louder :highfive:
Had the Problem at Volume lvl 14, too. And at an other RT it's the same. for sure The last Update was s**t
I was playing with the audio on mine yesterday, here's my observations:
The audio level is uneven when it's at low volume (it seems to fluctuate maybe 10-15% when it's below around 40 on mine)
I can only tell a minuscule difference between audio at 50% and audio at 100%, whereas audio at 10% is drastically quieter than at 50%
It does seem to be louder, but since it fluctuates so much <40% for me and I prefer to listen to it quieter at night to not disturb others it's largely worthless.
I'm not noticing any of these issues when I use a USB headset.
Edit: After a reboot I no longer notice the audio level fluctuations.
Has anyone solved the issue of having only the bottom speaker working for notifications, alarms, and ring tones? Or is this a defect and I should return my phone? Please let me know if you have this issue or not and if there is any known solution. May have to switch phones if I can't even hear the damn thing ring

It's common to all HTC 10 phones. All notifications are played through the bottom speaker only. No fix is there for it AFAIK. It's a 'feature' apparently.
Just tested mine. Alarm and ringtone (in real situation, not in the settings selection) play through both speakers, no doubt about that. Weird.
(Alarm sound: polychrome. Ringtone sound: Watson from HTC themes)
Is yours unlocked or a carrier version? What software are you running?

What device and software do you have? It seems that some fo have the issue and others don't. Trying to find any rhyme or reason to it

Mine is unlocked, completely stock, 2PS6200 Europe version. Tested again just now, both speakers are playing notifications.

Very interesting. Mine is unlocked as well but US version, 2PS6500. I'd be VERY interested to hear if people with the exact same version have different behavior
I've got T-mobile branded european HTC 10 and also both my speakers play all the sounds.
I have the 2PS6500, US unlocked version. No sound from top speaker with ringtone, notifications, or alarms.
So it seems like so far we have the following results
Unlocked Euro version (2PS6200) Stock software rings through both speakers
T-mobile branded Euro version rings through both speakers
Me and one other confirm that US Unlocked version (2PS6500) Does NOT ring through both speakers.
Curious if anyone with US Unlocked version has flashed another ROM and had it work or not work.
Both speakers ringing on another 2PS6200 too, but this time a friend's Hong Kong version (708 software), stock unbranded.

So I have an unlocked European version. And I checked again after reading the responses in this thread. What seems to be happening is that the sound plays out of the bottom speaker but the top speaker does seem to get activated but produces no sound. I hear a soft static noise if I put the top speaker next to my ear when a notification comes through. Could someone else with bottom speaker only notification sounds check for similar behaviour?

Yep, that's exactly what is happening. There is no audio produced from the top speaker during incoming calls, notifications, or alarms... But you can hear a soft white noise from the top speaker if you put your ear next to it as if you were on a call.

Huh. That's pretty strange. I doubt it's a physical defect in the device as music, media and notification sounds (when you listen to them while selecting them, not when a notification comes through) play fine through the top speaker. It makes no sense at all. What's even stranger is that some users are reporting that their notifications play fine through both speakers. Maybe if someone who is S offed could flash roms from both regions and check if the top speaker works with one and not the other we could get to the bottom of this.
Have the same issue on us stock unbranded phone. Was hoping that nought update would fix this but no luck. I have a coworker with T-mobile HTC 10 who swore up and down that his was OK until I actually showed him what to look for. He was testing while selecting a ring tone. I called HTC they offered to send me a new phone but I know that will not fix it. They will not admit it's a bug. I keep missing calls because of this.

I too doubt it is a physical defect.
I was specifically referring to the incoming ringtone when receiving a call. The audio during a call from the top speaker functions as expected... As does audio from apps playing music, audio from apps playing movies, audio from games, etc... All function fine.
Specifically the incoming ringtone of a call, incoming notification, or an alarm produces no audio from the top speaker (a very low, soft white noise hiss can only be heard) is what I was describing. So, we are describing the same issues at hand
I think the easiest way to pin down what is happening would be for someone to flash different stock software from different regions and see if that changes the behavior. My guess is that it is software related
I have the same issue on the Sprint htc 10.. been this way since i purchased the phone on the release date.
running viper10 3.5 currently.. latest firmware for sprint.
would be great to find out what the cause of this is. its really annoying
Well, I was hoping the latest OTA 2.41.617.3 would "enable" the top speaker to be used in tandem with the bottom speaker for incoming calls, incoming notifications, and alarms... But alas, the "feature", or bug (depending on your perspective of it) persist.
Just a side comparison of the 10's audio output during calls, notifications, and alarms is a complete joke next to the M9, M8, and M7.
Anyone else have different results with the OTA?
Sorry dude, both my speakers rang before the OTA, both still do after... It must be a hardware difference.
After honor 7x oreo 8.0 update i have issue with bottom speaker. The bottom speaker volume goes down to very low where it can't heard untill you put the speaker next to your ears when we close the music without pausing/closing any app(running music in background) directly or force quiting without quiting the app properly. After it i can't hear the ringtone of phone calls and notification sound of any app.I want to reboot every time when i get this problem to fix it ,it's very frusting to use this phone after the oreo 8.0 update.Does any one had same problem? If any one had solution to it please post it.
No such issues should occur unless you have frittered with the phone by rooting or flashing custom ROMs, etc. Send your device to Honor service center for repair if in warranty.
