Hi everyone,
I am sorry for asking for help, as I am really stock and don't know what to try to fix the problem.
I know that members posted similar issues but I tried about everything but no success.
I have HTC 10 (UK) , Unlocked, S-ON. I tried to flash it with Customer ROM (Purefusion) and now lost the baseband.
I know, it was not right to do that , as I knew later that it has to be downgraded to nougat and then flash, as I was on the latest FW (oreo 8.0 I believe).
I tried to go back to stock rom for the mobile by using RUU but no luck , I get the error Message (error 132 Authentication error).I have no recovery from the original FW.
I did run Fastboot getvar all and I got the following:
C:\platform-tools> Fastboot getvar all
(bootloader) kernel: lk
(bootloader) product: htc_pmeuhl
(bootloader) version: 1.0
(bootloader) max-download-size: 1578400000

(bootloader) mid: 2PS620000
(bootloader) cid: HTC__001
all:
finished. total time: 0.031s
As mentioned I tried the RUU for HTC__001 ( and different RUUs) but get always the message (error 132 Authentication error).
What I am doing wrong? Does anyone have the right link for the right Ruu for me, this would be fantastic, as my HTC is useless at the moment.
Many thanks

Hi yldlj,
Many thanks for your help.
I downloaded different RUUs for the CID and mid I have , renamed them to 2PS6IMG.zip, placed them on ex SDcard, tried to flash them by using the latest TWRP ( because I don't get the option " Press vol up to flash" in download mode ) but I get the message in TWRP " zip signature verification failed, error installing ..........., invalid zip file format".
I tried the following RUUs but always the same Error messages
https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=24533100289591083
https://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-10/how-to/htc-10-stock-rom-ruu-t3378240/post66830893#post66830893
is there any other way to flash those Ruus? would it be better by using adb ?
Or, Why don't I get the option " Press vol up to flash " in download mode?
Many thanks for any suggestion or help.

I bet you named it. zip.zip ......remove 1 .zip and try again.
You can not flash it from twrp. Must be done from download mode. It will be picked up automatically but i bet the filename is wrong. Disable the "hide file extensions" in windows.
Many thanks Mr hofs, I will give it a try after work.
I will have a look at the file name but I am sure is't not xxxx.zip.zip (I hope I am wrong).
I'll give it a try and let you all know.
Many thanks again

Hi,
I have no idea why it wouldn't' work? I've put the zip file on External SD and always I end up with the message shown in the picture.
I tried about all RUUs for HTC__001 from the link in my first post but always the same result.
Would it help if I relock the mobile?
If I need to relock it, then what's the best way to do it, as TWRP is installed ? What's the best way to do it?
BTW, I flashed a custom Rom (lineage 14) and it went ok but I lost the baseband imei , So I have to get it back to stock rom?
Many thanks

Never relock bootloader. I don't know why the RUU won't install. Are you trying to install the ruu I linked because that's the one you need and no other will work. Did you make sure windows isn't hiding file extensions? Try deleting the .zip so just name the RUU 2PS6IMG. Are you trying to flash from download mode? You can't flash from twrp. Another ootion would be to flash leedroid Oreo ROM. Your IMEI and baseband will come back if you do.

Many thanks yldlj for your reply,
I tried every RUU in the link in my first post for HIC__001 and always the same error / https://forum.xda-developers.com/htc...3#post66830893 (I wish I could upload the error image ), it looks like I couldn't attach any picture or file to the post.
I did it in download mode and got always the same error but I don't have to go back to stock rom, it's just I wanted to be able to try other custom roms.If it works with leedriod oreo (or any other rom ) without losing the IMEI and baseband then I would give it a try.
I have no idea why I can't attach pictures from my laptop without uploading it to a server. The following is the whats written in the error message:

Your flashing the wrong RUU. You can't downgrade while S ON that's what the error is. You need 3.16.401 which I linked you too. Your baseband and IMEI will come back if you flash leedroid or maximus.

Hi guys.
I had (past tense) a rooted HTC One M8 with stock kitkat rom on it. Wanted to OTA update to Lollipop - couldnt because of CMW recovery mod. So i've tried to get a stock recovery rom on, via extraction from the OTA zip file. Firmware.zip wasnt a valid zip file, so I scoured the internet for a valid stock rom zip to apply. FOund "M8.GPE.Recovery.img" which I tried to apply via adb/fastboot. Seemed to work - it booted, then I tried to OTA update again. But not it doesnt boot at all! Its stuck on a black screen with an android lying down - red exclamation mark/triangle - all it says is "Error!". Cant reach it via fastboot (just says waiting for device) - and the device doesnt respond to me pressing the powerbutton...
Any clues as to what I can try?
Ps - thanks for the help in other various threads on how to root, guides etc - fantastic site!
Try holding the Volume up + Power button for about 10seconds, should hard reboot the device then. You can then immediately hold Volume Down + Power to enter into Fastboot/Bootloader.
That recovery doesn't look right as well. It's for the GPE, do you have a GPE(Google Play Edition) device? The best method is to use the recovery.img that came with the OTA.zip. If you can't open it in windows, try downloading 7zip and opening and extracting the firmware.zip and recovery.img that way. I've had issues with both explorer's extraction and winrar in the past, 7zip is by far the better one to use for extracting etc.

I managed to make it boot via holding down the powerbutton and vol up for about 10 secs - it boots normally now. Still cant sw update it though...but I think thats another post - or some more googling Should I leave the post here in case anyone might be able to use it?

Yeah just leave it, might help someone else as well.
I still think you should check the recovery though. Unless you have a GPE device I don't think that recovery that you downloaded is the correct one, which might be the cause of your error.
When you get the error you can press Volume up + Power button(just tap it, don't hold it) and it should show you the "installation"/"error" log with the error message that you received... Which I still think might be the wrong recovery for your device.

Thanks for a quick reply! It doesnt respond to that keypress - no logs are shown. EDIT: Duh - yes it does respond to that keypress. I fumbled... cant remember the exact error now though - something like "CW file failed"
But I think youre spot on with the recovery image being wrong. Im just having a hard time finding the right one for the job... as most of the guides describe extracting the firmware.zip from the downloaded OTA zip file. But the firmware.zip just isnt a valid zip file... so the fastboot flash fails.
At least give more info like what's your CID, what software version no. that currently installed, what's written on hboot & etc. Then someone will be able to help you better.

Are you trying to flash the firmware.zip as a recovery? i.e fastboot flash recovery firmware.zip
You need to extract the firmware.zip from the OTA.zip, then open the firmware.zip and extract the recovery.img file that is inside the firmware.zip. If you cannot open the firmware.zip file then try using 7zip(like mentioned before) it works better for this, I've had issues as well.
I can't see how the firmware.zip might be corrupted and/or "invalid" as it comes directly from HTC when you downloaded the OTA, so it should be good to go.
Else, check for your recovery in this thread: RUUs, OTAs, Stock TWRP Backups, Firmware & More Collection Just look for your CID and the correct software version you are on.

So: HTC__Y13.
ITs correct that the firmware.zip doesnt open, even with 7zip. Im currently downloading it again to see if its a faulty zip...but i doubt it.
Its correct that I tried with a firmware.zip file - as it began checking zip header, parsing zip info - i figured that it also accepted zip files. But I think it doesnt, fails with "remote: 99 unknown fail).
Thanks for the link to the http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2701376 page - im gonna try 3.28.401.9 recovery.img in a moment when the new system update download finishes. thank you so far!!
I managed to resolve my issues, and OTA update to Lollipop. It required a reflash to the stock recovery, then OTA update, and then potentially root it again.
Thanks for the help guys! I appreciate your time.
Hello.
I am currently running ParanoidAndroid 4.6Beta5. Since PA's developement for M8 seems to be dead, I wanted to try CM12.
When I tried to install latest nightly build of CM12 I got a message that my bootloader (3.16) is not supported, and that I need to update it to 3.18 or 3.19.
I googled a bit and found out that in order to update it, I need to restore latest official ROM.
I managed to restore official ROM (3.28.401.6, based on android 4.4.4) but the WiFi wasn't working, so I couldn't do much there. I relocked bootloader and flashed official recovery, and then tried to run RUU.
RUU failed with code [315]. I ran out of ideas and google results to browse.
I unlocked my bootloader again, flashed clockworkmod recovery back, and restored my backup of ParanoidAndroid.
Right now the phone is in the same state as when I was starting.
Here is some basic info about my phone:
Model: HTC ONE M8 16GB Unlocked (purchased on amazon; network free)
CID: HTC_001
Bootloader: Unlocked
Recovery: Clockworkmod Touch v6.0.4.8
S status: S-ON

So the basic question is: how to flash CM12 on HTC One M8? I spent so many hours on it without any result, so this thread is my last chance.
Edit: SOLVED!
See http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=58859881&postcount=13 for solution.

Since you are S-On, you can't just flash the firmware, which is the easiest way. But you can use this method.
I'll give you an RUU to flash. But before you flash it, backup everything that is important to you, because this will wipe your phone.
Download this.
Rename it to 0P6BIMG.zip (that's a zero not the letter)
Put it onto the root of your extSD (By root of I mean just on the card and not a folder)
Boot into bootloader and choose hboot.
Follow the prompts (vol up to flash, power button to reboot when done)
Congratulations! You now have the latest lollipop firmware.
Make sure you delete the renamed zip from your extSD when you are done. If you don't delete it, it will try to update again every time you go back to hboot.
Since you are S-On, you can't just flash the firmware

What do you mean by firmware. Bootloader or ROM? I did 'just' flash PA without a problem.
I guess the ROM you liked is the latest official one. By installing it I will get my bootloader updated and then I will be able to flash CM12. Do I get this right? or will I get stuck on stock forever?
Edit: I just tried to flash your image using hboot but it didn't work. Check file attached.
I checked MD5 checksum just to make sure that it did download correctly and it does match with the one on the download page. However, I did notice that when I'm trying to open that zip file on my PC I'm getting an error saying that the archive is corrupted.

It probably didn't work because you are S-On. The method I gave you is generally used by S-Off users to flash firmware, but since it was a signed zip, I thought it might work.
Rename the download I gave you to ROM.zip at put it into your fastboot/platform-tools folder on your PC. Then hook your phone up to your PC and fastbooot.
fastboot devices to make sure your phone and PC are properly connected. (letters and numbers/ser. #)
fastboot oem rebootRUU
fastboot flash zip ROM.zip
EDIT: If you respond here, please use the reply button, I will get a notification that way. I just stumbled back to this thread by chance.

Okay. There must be something I am not aware of.
In fastboot: fastboot getvar all and post the readout here. But delete the serial number and IMEI for your own safety. Never post those on a public forum.

Is it not possible to just restore whatever ROM my phone came with and then just do the OTA update?

Yes. I got caught up in this method. You will also need the stock recovery (more important than the ROM) to use the OTAs. Plus your system partition has to be unmodified. That means no Xposed modules. If you have them, delete them using Xposed framework, then uninstall that as well.

So if I get this right, I just need to restore my factory ROM and Recovery image, then update it through OTA to lollipop. After that I will be able to flash my custom recovery and ROMs once again, right?
Do you have any links to the ROM and Recovery to my phone?

Success. For future generations, here is what I did:
Using fastboot getvar all command I found out that my phone was still mentally stuck on stock rom 1.54.401.5. Using this info, I downloaded matching nandroid backup of that ROM from here and restored it using my custom recovery.
Then, downloading from the same thread, I flashed back stock recovery image using HTC One 2014 (M8) All-In-One Toolkit V2.0.
I was back on my original ROM with original recovery, so I started doing OTA updates until I got to the official android 5.0.1. These updates updated my bootloader to version 3.19.
Having the bootloader that I needed, I flashed custom recovery and installed CM12 without any problem.
Thanks for help!
Hey, I just found this as I am having the same problem. I am trying to follow your solution, but hit a road block and was wondering if you could help. I ran the command "fastboot getvar all" in fastboot and got output similar to yours. Following your advice I looked at the line (bootloader) version-main: 1.55.605.2 which is different than yours, but okay I just need to find a matching one. But when I go to the link that you had provided I can't find a backup that matches mine (or at least I think I can't). What does it mean for it to match anyway? I'm getting so close! I want cm12!!
I did it over like 6 months ago. I can't remember any more. Sorry.
Anyway, CM12 has way too many problem on HTC ONE M8 to be used as a daily driver. I am using GPE Rom now, which I can recommend.
I just need to find some way to update my bootloader so I can get lollipop up and running. Thanks tho

The number needs to match exactly to restore to stock and OTA update the software/firmware (and therefore update hboot).
You can try to post on the following thread, and ask if someone can post the stock nandroid for 1.55.605.2 :http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-one-m8/help/tutorial-how-to-stock-stock-twrp-t3086860
Otherwise (if you can't get a stock nandroid) you may need to resort to getting s-off in order to update hboot (actually I recommend updating all firmware, not just hboot).

Hi there! I have a problem with my One M8 (S-OFF) - I cant flash any ROM on it. I can restore backups from a CM11 4.4.4 and an ARHD 41.0 but can't upgrade from either. I was looking at your solution and noticed that my ROM number is blank when I run fastboot getvar all. Is this a matter of concern? How can I flash a ROM again?

Your version-main is blank because of a bug in some older TWRPs. Update to 2.8.7.0. Flashing the new recovery won't fix version-main being blank until you flash new firmware though.
Also, you probably do have to update your firmware. You say you can't flash any ROMs, but you give no details.

Apologies, newbie here. I was looking for the correct place to place my request for help, when I found this thread and asked. I will put it up in the Q&A section.
Hi,
Well, as the title said i'm stuck in bootloop after re-locking the bootloader.
Here is the history of what happened:
Unlocked the bootloader
flashed TWERP recovery and rooted.
I saw I can't install OTA updates so I unrooted the phone and flashed back to stock recovery. Still couldn't install OTA updates.
Unlocked the bootloader again and restored system partition back to original "untouched" status (from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/tmobile-one-m9/general/please-read-rooting-using-twrp-t3069022). Only to realize i'm not on t-mobile, but the phone worked anyway .
Flashed back to stock recovery but still couldn't install the updates (If I remember correctly I got a massage that my software was tampered).
I'm S-on so I thought before trying the sunshine app I'll relock the bootloader. So I did that and that's it.
Here's were I'm now:
software status: modified
RELOCKED
S-ON
I can access stock recovery and download mode.
ADB devices doesn't recognize the phone (all drivers are ok and up to date and I've tried different cables and usb ports)
On the other hand, fasboot devices does work and recognize my phone.
So I come to you with help after going though tons of pages, guides and what not. I'm at it for a week now and no luck.
Help me XDA-Kanobi, you're my only hope
Thanks

What's your current firmware? Is the allow OEM unlock option (or how ever it was called in English) activated in the developer options (only important for firmware versions with a 2 or higher at the beginning)? If yes you can re-unlock with the unlock_token you got from HTCdev.

My current firmware is 5.0.something. To be honest I don't remember and can't check.
I've tired to re-unlock with the unlock_token you got from HTCdev but it didn't work. I've got the token with fastboot but only in download mode an then when I tried to unlock with the file they send you to the mail It gives an error that I can check later when I'm home.

It seems like you're talking about the android version not the firmware version since there is no 5.0.XXX.X firmware for the M9. For now it might be the best solution to wait until you're home.

Yes, that's correct. And with that firmware your problems can be solved without much hassle. Just download either the 1.32.401.15 or the 1.40.401.8 RUU which are both linked in my google sheet (link can be found in my signature). Follow the instructions and your phone should be usable again in no time. If you choose the 1.40.401.8 RUU there's one OTA less you need to install after you recovered your phone.
And a little advice for the future: If you want to install future OTAs then you don't need to relock your bootloader. If your phone isn't completely stock this will always result in a bootloop.

Of course. The only things you cannot do is downgrading or flashing RUUs that have a different SKU (=the three numbers behind the second dot in the firmware version). RUUs with the same version as your phone or higher versions are fine, though.

For your own safety you should delete your IMEI as it can be used for phone scam by others.
Why are you trying to flash one of Sneakyghosts' firmware packs? They can only be used with S-OFF and do not contain a rom. I've already explained earlier that you can find the needed RUUs and instructions in the google sheet in my signature.

my phone doesn't detect my htc headphones. It recognize other headphone and the HTC headphones works with other devices.
it looks like a software issue.

Hi hoping someone can help me - I've just wasted two days trying to get my phone to work again, but right now, it only goes to the bootloader.
I have HTC One M9, with S-ON, rooted, with TWRP bootloader installed. I can not get any ROMs to install at all - actually, they do install, just don't boot. I believe this is because I don't have the correct firmware version installed. I can't get any firmware to install. When trying to update firmware, I get;-

fastboot flash zip firmware_M9.ziptarget reported max download size of 800000000 bytes

I think this is because of the S-ON.

Thanks, Seth
Ok - so I've progressed, in as much as I've managed to put an old unofficial copy of CM12 on it. This has at least got me up and running.
Now need to get it back to Stock so I can patch firmware, and then install latest version of CM13.
Only, all the guides I read, say to flash Stock you need S-OFF - which I can only achieve by running Sunshine unlock - but I can't run Sunshine Unlock on this unofficial version of CM12.
Does anyone have any ideas they can throw my way? Thanks

Buddy once u install the rom, take the boot.img frm the rom zip file & flash it via adb in bootloader mode it will flash evn if ur s-on, custom roms need their respective boot.img files to be flashed when s-on in case of s-off its done by twrp or cwm recovery hope it helps
Hi Seth,
So the great news is that you do not need to be S-OFF to upgrade your firmware, which is what it sounds like you need to do.
Unfortunately, you can't take an OTA update, so you need to flash an RUU. While this will reset your phone (wiping everything but your SD card), it will also get your phone up to date.
Do you know which variant of the M9 you have? Once you get that information, you can use download the appropriate RUU and flash it to your phone. I've included some links below that are helpful - I especially recommend Flippy498's Google sheet, which has almost everything you need (with instructions!) to update your firmware.
Peace,

Instructions for obtaining your CID, MID & software version on Windows:
a. Install HTC Sync Manager (this will install the necessary drivers & ADB tools)
b. Boot your phone into download mode (from a powered off state, turn on by holding the POWER+DOWNVOL)
c. Connect your phone to your PC
d. Open a command prompt window
e. Navigate to the ADB tools folder, typically C:\Program Files (x86)\HTC\HTC Sync Manager\HTC Sync
- assuming the path is correct, you can cut & paste this command into your terminal: cd C:\Program Files (x86)\HTC\HTC Sync Manager\HTC Sync
f. Execute the following command in a terminal (command prompt): fastboot getvar all
g. Copy the lines that mention product, version-main, mid, and cid.
still sinking....
Thanks for the info guys. So I decided the best path was to RUU back to Stock then upgrade firmware OTA.
So, I tried to connect phone to HTC Sync Manager, but get the dreaded USB can't connect 170 error - even though the OS can see the phone, and its memory card fine.
So I decided to try Ubuntu to extract the RUU, so I can just patch it on SD card. However, I can't get the unruu program to compile properly, because its got some error with the required version of unshield.
So I'm at a dead-end, and resisting putting a hammer through the screen of this phone, which has now cost me about 4 days worth of effort - and still doesn't work.
The only thing I've managed to get working on it so far, is a crappy unofficial copy of CM12 - that crashes about 15-20 times a day.
Can anyone please offer me some advice, or a stock rom.zip for an unlocked m9?

If you can pull you CID & MID, it'll be easy to identify which RUU you need. Most are easily found online.
So more progress. Having relocked my bootloader, I am now able to get the HTC RUU exe to connect to the phone from Windows. Only problem now is that I'm getting the

this makes me think I've got the wrong RUU. I'm pretty sure I've got the correct SKU, but not sure about the rest of it. From running fastboot getvar all I get;-

Ok, so I think the problem here, is the RUU I have is a downgrade from the existing version. With that in mind, can someone please help me out massively by pointing me in the direction of the correct RUU?
Thanks again.

awesome - thanks for your help
So, 6 months ago in my eagerness to get Oreo I flashed an Oreo rom over my functional LeeDroid Nougat installation. I can't remember the details of exactly what I did, but I ended up with my SIM card being recognised (it prompts me for the SIM unlock PIN), but it won't connect to the mobile network - I guess that means the 'loss of radio' problem.
OK, so I didn't heed the warnings and I was stupid But now I really want to get my beloved HTC 10 working again.
I've tried restoring TWRP backups from https://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-10/how-to/stock-stock-collection-recovery-ruu-ota-t3359297, then re-flashing stock recovery, but end up in a boot loop.
I've tried the RUU Zip method - both using htc_fastboot.exe from a windows PC and by copying onto SD card and installing via download mode, with all of the HTC__0034 RUU Zip's but in all cases end up with various RU_ errors (19 RU_MAIN_VER_FAIL, 12 RU_ZIP_ERROR, 9 RU_SECURITY_FAIL etc)
One thing I can't work out is if I will need to install (and pay) for the sunshine app to get my phone to S-OFF?
And if some kind person could help me out and tell me exactly which downloads I need I would be eternally grateful
Code:
(bootloader) kernel: lk
(bootloader) product: htc_pmeuhl
(bootloader) version: 1.0
(bootloader) max-download-size: 1578400000
(bootloader) serialno: xxxxxxxxx
(bootloader) slot-count: 0
(bootloader) current-slot:
(bootloader) imei: xxxxxxxxxxxx
(bootloader) version-main: 3.16.401.2
(bootloader) boot-mode: download
(bootloader) version-baseband: [email protected]
(bootloader) version-bootloader: 1.0.0.0000
(bootloader) mid: 2PS620000
(bootloader) cid: HTC__034
This on definitely works. I know because it did for me.

I have the same cid, same firmware......flash by renaming it and via download mode.
2PS6IMG.zip is what to rename it to.

Thanks for your answer. Which stock recovery did you use?

You don't need a stock recovery. It's flashed with the ruu. Not sure why you ask that?

Ahh... right. I asked because I really have no idea what I'm doing! A little knowledge is dangerous!
Am going to try flashing the RUU later this evening.
Thanks

OK, so I successfully flashed the zip (thanks for the tip!), but I still don't get mobile network connection
I also tried flashing 2.41.401.41--3.16.401.2_S-On_firmware.zip as on this page: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=75262137&postcount=1761 - which flashed successfully but same problem.
(BTW I do get an IMEI number in settings->about, but that's always been OK)
Any ideas?

If you flashed the ruu and it succeeded its all pure stock, flashing a firmware won't help as its done with the ruu.
You can try to erase the persist partition
https://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-10/how-to/solution-imei-signal-downgrade-oreo-8-0-t3748999
Otherwise :
- check the simcard
- maybe hardware failure somehow (not sure how)

Hmmm... tried erasing the persist partition, but still no joy
So, if what I understand is correct paying $25 for Sunshine to set my S-ON to OFF and trying to revert back to Nougat probably won't help me either?

Just thinking out loud, did you test the sim in another phone ? Just to confirm it works properly ?
There is a way to downgrade to nougat without s-off but it involves some knowledge about adb/fastboot and flashing several files. The guide is in the guides section. Have a read there.
