SM-G960 vs SM-G9600 - Bootloader Question - Samsung Galaxy S9 Questions & Answers

Sorry for this if it is answered elsewhere but I didn't see a specific answer in my search.
I'm looking for the unlocked international version of the S9 because I want to root it, flash ROMs, etc..
I see the international SM-960 models that have the Exynos chip, which I know can be unlocked.
I also see the international SM-G9600 models that have the Snapdragon chip. Can the international variant with Snapdragon also be unlocked, or is it Exynos only?
In some strings I've seen mention of getting an unlock code from Samsung after 7 days. Is that for the 9600 (snapdragon), the 960 (Exynos), or both?

The SM G9600 has an unlocked bootloader like the exynos variants, but since there is no TWRP for the g9600 you kinda can't do much with it. There are no custom ROMs out there for the snapdragon version. But there are GSIs that can be installed thanks to Project treble. But like I said, without twrp you can't do much.

Hi, I've bought an 960U in the USA, and looking to flash the Brazilian ROM, but the variant used here is the 9600. Can I Flash It?

No, the SM-G960U (AT&T carrier locked version, IIRC) has a locked bootloader. I do not think you can flash any new firmware to it, unfortunately.
EDIT: Maybe you can, follow the guide in this thread: https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s9/how-to/how-to-flash-u1-firmware-to-device-t3765200
I'm not sure, but it may be worth a try.

Hi
I have the 960u unlocked, I bought it in a best buy.
This makes a difference to flash or not the 9600?

Carrier unlocked is not the same as bootloader unlocked. One let's you use any carrier SIM card the other let's you flash stuff.
I can buy the N9600 but I am not entirely sure if it will be able to get fully twrp working and root

Locked Bootloader on Galaxy S9 from Verizon

I have a Verizon Galaxy S9 (SM-G960U). Two questions for the experts. Is there anyway to unlock the bootloader? Is it possible to downgrade from Pie to Oreo if the bootloader versions are different?

Is this a situation where no solution has been discovered yet, or is this new technology that will never be conquered?

Both, you would need the encryption key from Samsung to unlock it, never gonna happen
If you want an S9 to root and play with, buy the International Exynos version, comes already unlocked ready to go
And you cannot downgrade the bootloader on either versions, once you're on a BL version higher than Oreos highest version, you're stuck

Doubt between model numbers.

Hey guys, i'm about to buy an Moto Z2 Force for a good price, but i have a doubt, the model number is the Xt1789-04 from at&t, so i was watching some post here about the phone and theres another z2 force with the same model number, the Tmobile and another model, the Xt1789-05 global, i'm the kind of person who love flashing things, roms, kernels, so i can flash roms, kernels, gsi roms and others with the at&t variant or i will be limited to keep the stock?

ATT and TMO are both -04 but only the TMO is bootloader unlockable, not the ATT. However, both are stuck on oreo, no official pie, but there are pie roms for the TMO.
The -05 is bootloader unlockable and has pie officially, plus can run roms.

Right. As of now there is no known way to unlock the bootloader of an ATT model.

Can you flash US firmware on Korean or Chinese s20?

I ordered a Korean S20 ultra (988N), but live in the US. Has anyone flashed the US firmware on a bootloader unlocked SD variant of the phone (ie 988U1 firmware on a 988N or 9880)? If so, did you have to change the CSC to XAA before or after you flashed the firmware?

I don't have an answer to your question but will the non-US phone work in the US like on Verizon system as is?
It should work fine on LTE. The main Verizon bands are 2, 4, 5, 13, all of which are supported in all s20 variants. I don't think you'll get 5g on any US carriers, so if that's important, better to pick up a US spec phone, and pay to unlock the bootloader.

I tested the phone (G988N) on both Verizon on TMobile. I was able to get 5G on both carriers. So I can confirm that all features (except possibly WiFi calling on Tmobile), work.
So using the KOO firmware in the US works perfectly fine. No reason to try to flash XAA.

Question [S901U] Remove Carrier Bloat

Hey,
I've got an att locked S22, and att have gone and done a bunch of dumb stuff like locking rcs to their implementation and installing a bunch of stuff as system that I don't want etc. I'm wondering if it's possible to flash a non carrier-specific firmware to the NA S22?
Thanks
Yes, you can flash the unlocked software to the phone and it will convert it into a U1 model, with OTA updates and everything. Every S or Note series subforum has the instructions listed, except for this one for some reason.
You can follow the instructions here, just substitute the S901 for the S908 - https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...s908u1-versions.4400511/page-56#post-86785943

do you know if it's possible to dirty flash from U to U1 firmware?
I believe it will be a full wipe. Just back everything up to Samsung or Google.
@truemetro , were u able to successfully flash the global / non-carrier ROM to your phone?
I own att mobile s901u. Couldn't flash s901u1 xaa firmware.
What an I missing?

Usually no as Us devices have different Chipsets than most other countries
Even if chipset is same, you can't flash different model no firmware on Samsung except U to U1.
