Is there a camera APK floating around somewhere that has Google Lens embedded in it? Is there (possibly) a beta program that one could join?
@Eduardo1974: What phone do you have? If you have a Pixel, Pixel XL, Pixel 2, or Pixel 2 XL you should already have it as part of Google Camera. If you have a LG G7 or new devices from Motorola, Sony, Nokia, OnePlus and Asus it will eventually be integrated into each company's camera app. If you have anything else or aren't willing to wait, install Google Photos, as there is no beta program and Photos includes Google Lens
I have a Pixel 2 XL. The Google Lens icon shows up in my Photos app as well as when I trigger the Google Assistant, but not when the camera itself is launched.
When I take a picture the Google Lens icon will show as an option when viewing the photo I took, but when I just flat-out launch the camera there is no Google Lens icon that I can see. Is that how it's supposed to be set up?
Yes.
Oh I too thought they were adding a lens option right in the camera. Maybe I was wrong.
It has to have something to analyze, thus you can't use use it "live". You have to take the picture first and then use it. Or in the case of Google Photos, you have to select a picture and then use Google Lens.
On my pixel 2 XL once in the Google assistant at the bottom right you can hit the Google lens button and it opens the camera to a live use.

on my old Samsung (CM13), I used to have Google Camera app installed. I have used it only for Photo Spheres, as stock camera app was good enough for everything else.
Google Camera got device-related limitation in recent versions, so you cannot install it from Google Play directly unless you own some Google device. so, I just went to APKMirror and found some 3.2 arm64 apks.
so, on OP3 Google Camera 3.2 works, but when it comes to capturing Photo Spheres, it becomes really slow. each tile takes 5 - 10 seconds to take, while old Samsung used to capture it 10x faster.
is there any way to fix this or do you suggest any alternative Photo Sphere camera app to replace Google Camera?
thx.
+1 for this topic. Also, Google Camera is not able to focus manually...
Hi,
I currently ran into the same issue. I used the GCam a lot on other devices to create photospheres. But with the OnePlus3 this is nearly impossible. After focusing on the next blue dot the cam need 5 seconds go take the picture. I currently couldn't figure out whats the problem is. Any help would be appreciated.
Edit: Attached google-camera.log. Log created while using Google Camera and taking a photosphere (not complete).
I can confirm the same problem arises when taking photo spheres from within the app Google Street View. Has anyone found/made a fix yet?
I'm running Google Camera v. 3.2.045 on CM13 (nightly 0816) and photosphere works exactly as expected. There's maybe a second delay when hovering over each guide dot, but that's what I remember it always being.
fixed in OOS 3.2.2
photo sphere works as expected
I dont think Streeview spheres work

I don't think this is cured, got new OP3 today (31 Oct 2016) OOS 3.2.7, not rooted, Streetview is too slow to use, I may have to return the phone because of this

I have the same problem.
Use the Google camera to take a photosphere. Then import in Streerview.
Is the only "solution" i found. Google camera Is realy fast
Anyone here that has noticed a big delay when taking a photosphere or panorama with google camera? I use Resurrection Rom. A faster camera app for this would be nice.

Google street view work fast with cm14 or cm14.1 (and probably with cm 13 but i don't have try it). If street view works slowly you have to use google camera (you can download from apk mirror) for take photo sphere or panorama picture. When take a picture with google camera you have to turn on "save position" in settings. Then you can upload in street view.

Which version of Google camera works for Cm14.1? I was having problems with nearly all of them starting and then closing right away.

The problem with the Google Gamera App is that the higher pictures (when you point up) come out of focus It is not a problem with the camera itself, I can take pictures pointing up outside of the photosphere setting.
Hi! Does anybody know app with something like 'aperture mode' (just like i huawei P9). I love G4's camera and I wannna have something like that in it
Is there any app that allows doing that photos?
Or maybe it would be....
Afterfocus app is the closest alternative.
Yeah I had afterfocus and google camera also, but I'd like to have sth bettet (like in p9)
Not possible without dual cameras.
But p9 doesnt use two cameras. One camera is monochromatic and only for it. This bokeh is by application and i'm searching sth like this. Iphone 7 have two cameras with various focal length
Depth of field (bokeh) can only be simulated by dual cameras in a smartphone or macro shots.
I owned Huawei P9, it would not simulated DOF if one of the two cameras were covered. Same is for iPhone 7 Plus.
But p9 havent got various focal lenght in its cameras, am I right?
Majority, almost all smartphone cameras have fixed focal length. So does P9.
DOF can be achieved naturally by variable focal lengths (like DSLR lens), or artificially by using dual cameras with fixed variable lengths. However, dual cameras DOF is fake software blur.
Thank You, now i undertstood
Anyway, have You tested google camera app? Therr is a aperture effect. It's really interesting but not good enough
I tried Google camera app and its blur effect long ago, it worked alright, but nowadays, i cannot find Google camera in play store.
Right, there is no google camera in play store directly but You can find it in official site
Google Camera By Google Inc.

freedcam has alot of features. check it out in playstore. way more then stock. not sure what is aperture. but am sure freedcam has way more function and settings then stock camera. try it.
I tested, but unfortunetelly FreeDCam hasnt that mode
I was thinking if the new portrait mode could be ported to the pixel xl since google is basing it off software and machine learning and not hardware. On a side note do you think the launcher from the xl 2 could also be ported?
i think it uses extra info from the new dual pixel camera
but you never know
there are some talented guys on here who might port it

From what i can tell:
Back Camera: obviously uses the dual sensor (NOT dual camera but two sensors). The phone then does some processing with information from second sensor to give you that "portrait mode" effect. Some say it's better than with dual cameras...idk about that
Front Camera: now this is one of the reasons a lot of people, myself included, think that porting might work. Front camera only has one sensor and one lens, just like OG pixel camera. Google uses a software processing and AI similar to what is used in back camera, to do the portrait mode; except this time there's more processing involved to "figure out" the BG vs FG etc (which in the back camera would be assisted by the extra information given by the extra sensor or another camera), which is the main thing with portrait mode effect. However, what I've been told is that there is an extra processor hardware called "gouda" in the pixel 2's that assist in this intensive extra processing.
I'm not sure if the same (use of the "gouda" processor) applies to the obviously less amount of processing required with the two sensors at the back, definitely with only one sensor that is apparently the case.
All in all, it SEEMS that this is impossible as the OG Pixel lacks the extra processor to do the calculations required to mimic portrait mode without a second sensor or lens. This is not even getting into the fact that, a LOT of people say that even with all the calculations nothing beats the portrait mode on the back camera that has all that extra information from the second sensor.
However, my hope is that this new "portrait mode" is at least made available eventually in the app on playstore, perhaps hooking into any extra information available from a second camera or sensor at the back (meaning, for example, other phones that *do* have dual sensors or dual cameras can make use of google's obviously excellent rendering for portrait mode).
I just downloaded the APK for the new camera app and it works fine, you have to do the "keep object centered and move phone up" thing but it works fine, both front and back camera.
EDIT: Also in Android 8.1 the new launcher is coming to the original Pixel, iirc. I just downloaded that APK as well
I also downloaded the new camera apk and have it on my XL as well. It works really well too.

Lens blur is similar to portrait mode but it's not exactly the same. Lens blur target focus area is smaller while portrait mode automatically find the object in the foreground and blurs the background.

Hmm interesting. My wife has the smaller 2 and I never even looked in the camera to notice haha. I just assumed it was the same. Well learned something new.

Hi, please share!
https://www.xda-developers.com/pixel-2-portrait-mode-port-non-google-android-oreo/
this seems to work quite nicely without magisk permissions etc if on stock
http://www.androidpolice.com/2018/01/01/get-pixel-2s-portrait-mode-first-gen-pixel-phones-nexus-6p-nexus-5x-mod-apk-download/
this new portrait mode works great but how to you change its default storage location?
I'd like to store the pics in the same location as the stock pixel location.
Thanks
Hi, this isn't spam, anyone has an idea for magisk modules? Well, if you do, post down below, I'll see if I can build them!
Would it be difficult to implement a way for front-facing photos in Google camera to be saved as they are previewed in the viewfinder like in Snapchat, Instagram, etc?

It would be kinda difficult, but why do you want to take a screenshot of the viewfinder rather than using hdr+ which is superior to any other phone in every way, There is prob a camera app out there that can do this, lemme do some searching for you

I suppose I'm moreso looking for a way for my photos to mirror back to how they appear in the viewfinder. Not so much much a screenshot of the view finder, but an automatic vertical flip of photos taken with the front-facing camera. I was just curious, thank you

It is annoying, I just flip them in snapseed.
I just can’t believe that the best market front camera does not have flipped photo mode, so disappointed.
The GCam Tool doesnt work :crying:
Is there any solution?
yes, i am disappointed too...
Hello, I am the developer of GCam Tool. I had replied to your Play Store review, with my email address ([email protected]), requesting you to get in touch. Nevermind, let me help you here.
First of all, could you please check your selfie using a third party gallery app like Piktures? Sometimes the gallery inside Google Camera app is slow to refresh thumbnail and so it might show it flipped but the actual selfie might not be.

What do you mean by flipped photo mode? My front camera photos all come out in the proper orientation, where the image matches the perspective of someone who is standing in front of me.
I'm using the gcam mod and it works fine. For selfies not being mirrored that is.
Apptuners you're right in saying Google photos is a little slower to update but it does work

But it is like a mirror reflection of what you see in the camera preview, isn't it? What you are saying is logically the correct way as even the writings on your clothes will be readable. Still I guess some people (myself included) prefer to have the output exactly as you see in the preview.

Thank you. That is great to know.
i hope google will fix this with an option to choose.
i prefer to see the same result as i see in my camera before i shoot
Glad I'm not the only one. It feels weird and unnatural when the picture isn't like in the preview. I know it's the way people see you but still I rather the pic be the same as the preview

Hold something with writing on it in front of you while doing a selfie. The screen will display the writing backwards. But the pic will show the writing correctly.
I like it the way it is.
Thnk god now they have added a setting to save the selfie just as previewed.
i am facing the same problem, when i open the front camera in potrait mode it doesn't capture what it shows, it flips the image, i wish if there was an option to restrict flipping images...
