Sandisk : $13.99 @ Amazon
Adapters : (2) $6.19 @ Amazon
Good to see... thanks
Interested in what the data transfer rate is. I have tried using the included adapter with a 128GB SanDisk flash drive and the transfer rate was mediocre and battery usage was extremely high
Not bad. I'm all in with the cloud storage and streaming now though. Makes it especially easy for me since I still have unlimited data and unlimited full quality Google Photos backup.

This will save a little money, more capacity, smaller physical size than two parts, nothing extra to loose, transfer speed normal.
Wrong link, sorry. The one I had ordered is not longer available and more money other places.

Yes, sorry. I edited my post above. The one I have was apparently discontinued and I do not find it online now, but looks like that with USB-C and mini-USB.
I use this one with my 2 xl:

Does the USB OTG cable work with the Samsung Galaxy Nexus HSPA+ ?
Sent from my EVO 4G LTE using xda app-developers app
It does.
If you are looking to mount a USB stick, you will need to have root and an app called stickmount. Other wise, you can plug in a keyboard or mouse, which does not requires root but you will need to be on 4.0.3 and above.

Do i need to get a specific type/brand or can I just pull any cable off ebay? Like: are all OTG cables the same?

I just bought one USB OTG (micro-USB - USB-A-slot) from Amazon, no brand, certainly made in China, but it just works. Probably like you say, all OTG cables are the same. My advice if you want to just expand your memory, buy a very small USB "plug" stick like this one: http://www.amazon.com/SanDisk-Cruzer-Flash-Drive-SDCZ33-032G-B35/dp/B00812F7O8/ I only have the 8 GB model, slow data transfer, but small plug. Fits in every pocket.
I hope I could help you.

Thats a great deal. $15 for a 32GB tiny usb card.
I just wish I knew why amazon.com and .ca had such drastic price differences. Its $35 on amazon.ca and our dollar is basically the same. Not fair at all.
BTW this also worked for me with no root with 4GB and 8GB flash stick on stock 4.1.1 !!!

Hi Pepper67, that price is a great deal. I understand your frustration regarding price differences. I'm British, but I live in Italy, I often use the amazon.co.uk site for research and checking user reviews because my Italian isn't brilliant. When I check the same goods on amazon.it they are normally higher. Sometimes by as much as 50%.
But the food and the weather here in Italy are way better than the UK.
You may pay more in Canada for some goods, but correct me if I'm wrong. Don't you guys have a public health care system? Unlike the US which is primarily private insurance based. Which is more important, health care, or saving a few bucks on Amazon? Just a thought.
Have fun. Anil

unless theres a larger capacity version, this is a waste of money and space lol. 4GB can barely store anything.
I am using a otg cable and a 64gb stick, works much better imo :good:
Yep, capacity and size are a bit of let down. But it's cheap, though.
Fingers crossed :fingers-crossed: my shiny new HTC One should be arriving tomorrow. Thanks to HTC's idiotic decision not to supply either a removable battery or a memory card slot, I am going to need both some form of external storage that the phone can access - perhaps a flash drive accessed via OTG, but I'm open to other suggestions - and an external battery/charger of some kind; and (which may be the tricky part) it has to be possible to access both of these things simultaneously.
With regards to power, capacity is clearly important (i.e. the number of mAh held) but it does also need to be reasonably portable - not something that weighs over a pound! - and, if at all possible, it should be something that can be charged or replenished very quickly. Ideally it should be able to charge the phone's internal battery as fast as a mains charger can.
For storage, I need a decent amount - 32GB is the absolute minimum, but 64GB or more would be better. It would also be helpful to have something not too big and heavy (I'll be carrying it around at all times). And, if possible, it should also be fast - especially when transferring files from a PC.
I may be acquiring a case at some point as well - not sure about that yet.
Advice, please!

Damn..the Seagate Wireless Plus looks nice
.. dear easter bunny
For battery bank what's most advisable?
HTC's official 6000mAh battery bank £44.99
or
Anker 10000mAh battery bank £37.99
Seems like a no brainer, but the Anker seems to be really bulky in comparison.
HTC reckon their battery bank will give 2 full charges......and that Anker one is nearly a foot long !!

What is it about the Samsung battery pack that makes it worth £70? There may very well be something, but I'd like to know what.
I've got a NAS with TB's of storage so the 26GB usable 'limit' is irrelevant.

Does it fit in your pocket?
Anyone have any other suggestions? I'm somewhat tempted by that Seagate drive, but I'm a bit uneasy about using storage that has its own onboard battery and needs to be charged independently of the phone - combined with a rechargeable battery pack, that's an awful lot of things to charge up. It's also bulky and probably mechanically rather fragile - hard drives don't much like being bounced around while they're operating. And then there's the cost....
Has anyone come up with a cable which lets you connect OTG USB storage and an external battery or charger simultaneously?
The one works well with my sandisk cruizer extreme, and it's seriously quick provided you have usb 3.0
I believe maxell have a wireless flash drive, kingston have a wireless ssd as well.

The Maxell device is an interesting possibility. It's essentially a wireless adapter for a memory card - not a micro-sd card of the sort you get in a phone, but a full-size sd card of the kind designed for digital cameras. You then transfer files (or stream them) via wifi rather than a direct connection to the phone. You can (I think) move files onto it from a PC via USB (USB 2.0 only, though). I get the impression it's designed more for iOS than Android....
http://www.airstash.com/#specs
But I'm still not sure a wireless device is the way to go - like I said, that's one extra device you have to remember to charge up, not to mention the complications of getting the phone to connect to the Internet over wifi and to the external drive at the same time, plus possible security implications, etc. I would have thought there must be some sort of adapter to allow a USB storage device and a charger or external battery to be connected to the phone at the same time...?
For example, suppose you had a cable like this: http://einfiniteshop.blogspot.co.uk/2013/01/usb-otg-cable-with-external-usb-power.html
Or this: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B009YPYORM
I think these cables are designed for situations where you want to use an external power supply to power your OTG device; but could the external power supply charge the phone as well (or instead)? Or is that not possible?

Just ordered one. Standard shipping was "Up to 30 days" - so I paid $1.02 for the 10-14 days. $7.01 total doesn't seem to bad for this. I'll try to find this thread when it gets here to let you know how it's working
Ordered a couple of these yesterday. Price is very reasonable. I hope they work. Will report back once tested.
I use this with a 64Gb PNY thumb drive i picked up on sale at mirco center. Not a fan of trying to keep track of micro sd cards.

Alright good deal, looking forward to hearing if these are worth buying. If so, all those complaining about the lack of SD slots on this phone and using it as a negative when making a choice of buying this or another phone now have no real complaint in this area.

Eh.. I see what you're saying, but it's still an extra 'device' you have to carry around. Someone needs to make a case that plugs in to the micro usb port and has a micro sd card slot on the back or side of it (with otg support obviously). Might be a thick case but it'd probably be worth it to a lot of people whod like extra storage available all the time. That said this will be the first time I've ever actually used otg on a device, so I cant speak for the effects on the battery which might be a reason to not always have something connected..
Still look forward to receiving this though.

That's what I've been mentioning in a few threads. It would be nice if there were two case options, a battery case with a microSD port and a regular case with a microSD port. With the battery cases out there, I'm surprised that one hasn't already been created, battery or no battery.

Valid point, but i'm sure this would at least bring comfort to some who were going to back away from the One due to the lack of internal slot. I can also see how this could be both an annoyance to some and yet still a win for others.
My card reader arrived today. The unit works as advertised. As soon as the device is plugged in the phone auto mounts whatever storage is plugged into the device. Going to Settings-->Storage--->USB Storage there is an option to Mount/Unmount. The reader has mounted everything I have tried so far, ranging from 4GB SD to 32GB MicroSD.
Nice little card reader, good find.

The item listed by the OP, http://www.fasttech.com/products/11...1-micro-usb-hi-speed-usb-card-reader-with-mic
Hi I recently purchased a Diztronic case but I'm finding it a bit annoying having to take the case off to get to the Micro SD tray I know I can use the USB C cable for file transfers but having compared speeds using a USB 3 card reader my overall transfer time reduced by 2.5 hours! So I would like to know if there's any good cases out there that has a cut out or flap for easy Micro SD access?
im just curious what are you transferring that takes over 2.5 hours?
When I do a full format and I throw my pictures and videos back onto my phone, over 6gb of data is moved with 2000+ files and it only takes about 10 minutes at most. I also have game emulators that together have over 10,000 files 7gb approximate size and that takes about 10 minutes also to move all those files.
Now the display on the pc will say 1 hour or something remaining but that's completely wrong if that's what your going off on your time (2.5 hours) and it'll be much, much shorter than that.
On my pc I use a A-C cable that USB-C 3.1 to USB 3.0 claims speeds up to 5gb/s on devices and my card is 128gb Samsung with 90mb write 95mb read.
I have not seen any cases that have access to the sd card unless you get a flip style one that's easy to take off or don't not attach to that area of the phone. I guess a cheap tpu case would work if you cut out the side.
