Huawei will stop providing bootloader unlocking. - Honor 6X Guides, News, & Discussion

Phone will become useless for devs

It's a bad news .

Can request bootloader unlock codes within 2 months by emailing phone info to official mail addresses of Huawei.

Yes, there was already an official XDA article about this https://www.xda-developers.com/huawei-stop-providing-bootloader-unlock-codes/

Unlocking from t-mobile
Hi guys,
I am waiting for my phone to arrive, its HTC Hero locked with t-mobile, is there any success on unlocking ?? please let me know if you have any information,
hero.unlock-now (dot) com says that they didnt have any complains, i dont know if I should believe them.
Please let me know if you have any experience. t
Thanks in advance.
I tried the site you mentioned above for my phone. Locked on Orange. After a couple of hours waiting I got a message back that they couldn't find my code.
I tried another site, htccode dot com and that had the exact same result. The support from htccode reckon because its a relatively new phone the database of codes haven't been updated yet. The guy said he'd have the code in a week. Thats coming up tomorrow, so hopefully I can update you on it.
Interestingly he also said that a lot of sites are just resellers of codes he supplies to them.
HTCCode.com
Have you read all the complaints on HTCCode forum.
It seems there are a lot of unhappy people out there, me being one of them. Only wish i'd read their forum before parting with my money.
There has to be an easier way than this.
I will however give them until tomorrow to give them the benefit of the doubt.
I think you have to give them the benefit of the doubt over Christmas and New Year.
I managed to speak with Sudarshan and he said due to the massive amount of new phones being distributed its hard to keep up with the newer IMEI's. And as more are being sold more people want unlock codes.
Obviously this time of year also means people are on holiday or busy with family, which is understandable. I think maybe give them until after new years, I'm personally not even giving work a second thought till after that.
any way to unlock this phone for free?
unlocking by unlock codes is the safe way to unlock..

OPERATION: Make Our Selves Heard (#OPMOSH)
Motorola Mobility Inc. has become famous for its lies, slanderous ways, and tendency to flat out prove time and time again that it cares not for its customers after they walk out of that store with their phone. Since the early days of Android, post Droid 1, we have sat down and took our locked bootloaders like a man. There came to be a boiling point - and a full-out war was launched on their social media sites. Sound familiar? The same thing that worked with HTC and now with Asus. We received a generic "second half of 2011" timing. Guess what! It's now Q1 2012, and not only have they missed their deadline, but they have IGNORED all bootloader-related questions, given NO official announcement of their plans still being in motion, and thus must have forgotten that we are a core, dedicated community that wishes nothing more than to enjoy the phones we were given. Let's make ourselves heard again, turn the heat up, and make Moto (like HTC) get off of their asses and DO SOMETHING. Everyone counts!
Moto's Facebook - Moto's Twitter - Petition
TRY TWEETING:
@Motorola - How about those unlocked bootloaders you promised second half of 2011? @HTC cares, do you? http://moto.ly/icsboot
TRY POSTING ON THEIR FACEBOOK WALL:
@Motorola - I'm a faithful Motorola customer, and I'm starting to have second thoughts. Honor what Android stands for, openness, and give us the bootloader unlock tool that you promised "second-half of 2011". http://moto.ly/icsboot #OPMOSH
MAKE SURE TO SIGN THE PETITION AS WELL:
We'll be throwing this Moto's way after we get enough signatures.
We NEED to be heard to get anywhere. Spread the word to your Facebook friends, your Twitter friends, your Google Talk friends, your favorite Android news site... Spread the word! Bring freedom to the Android ecosystem, like Andy Rubin and Rich Miner intended.
Thank you SO much for your support. This community is amazing and I know our endeavors will be successful. See you on Moto's Facebook!

To Whom It May Concern,
The independent communities that you catered to with your announcement earlier last year are very very excited for your bootloader unlock solution. However, the "second half" of 2011 has come and gone quietly; why is it that the public has received no notice that the bootloader unlock solution is still in works? A small-scale petition has made its rounds about the Android community, and has already gained over 200 signatures about 4 hours after being made public, without the help of any news sites (yet): http://www.change.org/petitions/motorola-mobility-inc-unlock-all-smartphone-bootloaders-2
Clearly, the demand is still quite strong (as can be seen on your social media networks, Facebook and Twitter), and it would be quite reassuring to the communities that not only pay for your devices every upgrade opportunity, but also help develop the Android operating system that we all know and love, to have an announcement that the bootloader unlock/relock solution is still on track for a timely release. This would also potentially double as reassurance to on-the-fence Galaxy Nexus/HTC smartphone buyers to go with the Motorola Droid RAZR, with its KEVLAR backing, 4G LTE speed, powerful 1.2 GHz dual core processor, and new bootloader unlock/relock solution instead. Thank you for your time, and I look forward to your response.
Sincerely,
A Motorola Mobility Entusiast.

I did my part, but the outcome so far is not good: look at my exchange with the bozos @ moto europe (read from bottom to top, I extracted it from the last email):
Me:
Your answer, while not as clear as I hoped, falls clearly in the 2) category: Contrary to its previous declarations (yes, it means lying) and in contrast with its competitors, Motorola do not intend to provide unloackable/relockable bootloaders. This information will be transmitted to the relevant newsgroups and social networks.
In case you wonder, it is not a positive message: There is no reason for an official relockable bootloader to void the warranty (Motorola provide such a bootloader on the Xoom), and the benefit of such a bootloader is maximal after the legal waranty anyway (for devices no longer supported by Motorola but still enjoying an active developer community).
Best regards
Moto europe:
Dear Mr xxx,
Thank you for contacting Motorola.
We would like to inform you that from Motorola Customer care service we will never give any means to unlock the bootloaders since it will void your phone's warranty. If you are a developer, please contact Motodev at http://developer.motorola.com/
Kind regards,
Motorola Mobile Devices Contact Centre
Me:
Sorry, but your answer is in total contradiction with previous Motorola
declarations:
Motorola official position in 2011 (from
http://www.groubal.com/motorola-lockedencrypted-bootloader-policy/ )
Bootloaders: It’s our plan to offer an unlockable/relockable bootloader,
currently found on the Motorola XOOM, in future software releases
starting later this year, where operator and channel partners will allow
it. Going forward, check out MOTODEV, the Motorola developer network,
for the latest information.
Exclusive: Motorola RAZR will be the first phone to incorporate
Motorola’s new bootloader solution
Posted by Irwin Proud on October 21st, 2011 3:02 PM - In Carriers,
Exclusive, Modding, Phones
Another example from
http://www.facebook.com/motorolaeurope/posts/234252379967105 :
Motorola Europe @Martin Malinowski the software version featured on
Motorola RAZR has been built with an unlockable/ relockable bootloader
included. However, whether that feature is enabled is dependent on
carrier and operator partner restrictions. Thanks.
Now there are two possibilities:
1) Confirm the previous Motorola position (that bootloaders will be
unlocked starting from end-2011). In this case, an apology for the delay
and more precision as to which device will get the update when would
strongly be appreciated. Note that the carrier and operator partner
restriction does not stand in Belgium, as phones are sold without
constract and not within operator outlets.
2) Infirm the previous Motorola position, i.e. "Sorry, we lied". And let
your customers pay back this behavior as it deserve.
I would appreciate a clear answer: 1) or 2).
Thanks,
best regards,
xxx
Moto:
Dear Mr xxx,
Thank you for contacting Motorola.
We are very sorry to inform you that Motorola will not unlock any bootloaders or give any methods to do so since this practice will void the phone's warranty. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you.
Thank you for allowing us to be of service to you.

Motorola Mobile Devices Contact Centre
Me:
Dear Motorola,
Last year you promised that, late in 2011, you will start to distrubute new bootloader solution that can be unlocked/relocked, subject to network provider veto.
In Belgium, phone are sold network-unlocked and in general electronic retail shops intead of network provider outlets. In means that the veto do not apply in any way.
Still, although we are now in the early days of 2012, we have no news of unlocked bootloaders.
Unlocked bootloaders allowing custom unsigned kernels are extremely important to the developer community, they allow experimentation and community support, while locked bootloaders with signed kernels makes the job of the community much more complicated. Note that even on a signed kernel, phone can be rooted and custom modules loaded, so the locked bootloader fail to secure the phone for the end user, while it is a huge annoyance for the dev community.
Your main competitors (HTC ans Samsung) have unlocked their bootloaders. You promised to do so. Now it is (more than) time to honor that promise.
I love my Defy, but with locked bootloaders I feel it does not have the support it desserve from the community, and having experienced the effect of a locked bootloader, it will be the last Moto device I buy if Moto do not honor its promise.
Regards,
xxx

ChevronWP7 Labs says the unlock expire in 120 days. How is that possible?

Hello all,
You might have been heard about the news from ChevronWP7 Labs saying the unlock they sold while ago will expire in 120 days from today.
My question is, how does the expiration work?
Suppose both my PC and my phone do not have internet connection, how does the phone get developer locked back?
Does it have some kind of time bomb already since I unlocked it?
Thanks!
In Q&A

OK, thanks your message but it does not answer my question.
I don't have answers but would like this discussion in the Q&A on one thread. This needs some serious investigation.

This is a presumption. The unlock of the phone is tied to a certificate that is only valid for a certain timeframe. So, the phone validates the "unlock" certificate each time an operation is requesting access to an otherwise locked feature (such as developer tasks). The certificate is only valid for a specific timeframe, which in ChevronWP7's case expires in 120 days. So, when the phone tries to validate the "unlock" certificate it will fail and the phone will deny access to the requested feature.
Thanks. So it does work like a time-bomb.
In this case, does this mean Chevron knew about this before?

Already side loaded apps?
Like most people I want to know if apps already side loaded will continue to work after the tokens are revoked? If they do work, it may be possible to keep it unlocked through a Registry Editor, Root Tools etc

If you have access to the registry, you can just remove that developer check URL (I don't know it's official name) to stay unlocked.
Otherwise if you connect to Zune and your token has expired, you will lose your unlock and you won't be able to launch sideloaded apps anymore.

No locked, if you register your Chevron account in Microsoft App Hub (http://create.msdn.com/en-us/home/membership). Then you get developer account on one year by free. ONLY IF YOU REGISTER BEFORE 10 august 2012.

You read my blog in Polish: http://encyklopediawindowsphone.pl
from chevron
’’ While we kicked butt on the former, the latter didn’t work out so well. Our data indicates that most developers simply unlocked their devices for non-developmental reasons and never went all the way to publish an app in the marketplace. There was also some confusion about the actual purpose of the ChevronWP7 service –some folks thought we provided SIM-unlock capabilities, while others thought we were a hacker group providing full root access. On top of this, there were a larger than expected number of support emails.
As a result, both sides amicably agreed to discontinue the ChevronWP7 Labs experiment.’’

I would go further than that. If the revocation of the token causes any of the homebrew apps you installed on the phone to cease to function, I would urge everyone who purchased tokens to consider a class action suit against MS and Chevron Labs.

MS won't be involved in the law suit. It's a third party as far sa it's concerned. Only people who can file a suit against MS here will be ChevronWP7. It's like you protesting against Middle East for the rise in Petrol. You always do it against the govt. of your country.

You can get a refund. ChevronLabs are refunding $9 even for a used token if you don't want to take the AppHub option. Ofcourse phone relocks.

Anyone feel scammed? I've been using custom ROMs so I didn't buy a token but this is a pretty bad move for ChevronWP7. Hiding a "this could only be temporary" clause in your TOS is a pretty sly move to get people to think they're getting something they're not. I imagine they're going to have 9000 refund requests. People want Homebrew as end-users, not as developers.
I feel scammed. They never stated this would only work for a certain period of time, and if you want your 'free developers account' you have to pay for it anyway, although you do get a refund after a couple of months.

Bootloader Unlock Page is Online Again.

General [WARNING] Calling stops working outside of China for the Chinese version

At least three people on the 4pda forum have reported that the Chinese version of the phone restricts making and receiving calls outside of China after two weeks of use.
Source 1: "Your phone is best suited for a specific region. There are restrictions on the calling function in your region. Please contact your place of purchase to resolve the problem."
Source 2: "Today it's stopped receiving calls, and when I try to make a call it bails out. Had to reset to factory settings. Activated on Jan, 23rd."
Source 3.
This is quite scary and unexpected. Both people use ColorOS and have yet to install the global firmware.
I wouldn't recommend buying the Chinese version for using outside of China until this issue is sorted out.
The only solution so far has been to take/send the phone to an official Oppo/OnePlus service center to unlock it. This must be done only after the calling restriction becomes active (rebooting the phone ~11 times is enough).
OnePlus 11 versions/models:
PHB110: China (region lock)
CPH2447: India (region lock)
CPH2449_EEA: EU (lock free)

No idea why all the links have been removed from the message but whatever.
4pda distributes warez, correct, but all the links were for a valid topic which has nothing to do with that.
Never heard of them distributing malware though. Must be something to do with the war I guess.
4pda has a ton of talented developers and some ROMs are basically developed over there but looks like the rules here have changed.
My post had nothing to do with warez.

Is this specific to OnePlus 11? I've never heard of this restriction/issue before.
It could actually be very bad for the consumer. Imagine a Chinese goes to visit another country for more than two weeks. They may find themselves being unable to make/receive calls which could result in a loss of life. Whoever implemented this hasn't thought it through. Either calling works or doesn't. Breaking the feature at a random time? This is horrible and inhumane.

I was able to make phone calls too in the beginning despite warnings until one day it suddenly stopped working. I posted a video about this on a Chinese platform. Oppo/onpleus support commented on my video that my device was locked because it was first activated outside of China. I was advised to visit a local Oppo service center along with proof of purchase for them to unlock.
I think this was activated with an OTA. I am still on A06 and haven't seen this warning yet.
Activated 24th Jan, first time outside China.
And anybody with OXYGEN OS also having this problem. Software is there, flashing should be possible.

Hey bro, I'll get my OP 11 in a few days, I've seen similar problems in the China digital forum but I'm curious how this region lock works? Does it require a Chinese sim card? Or does it require a connection to a Chinese network, like a Chinese IP address or something.... I own both of these things, a valid Chinese sim card, and a Chinese VPN.... If OPPO is relying on these things to determine the region, that would be great. (I really don't want to mail the phone to a OnePlus service center even if they can fix it, the OnePlus service center in Europe is in Poland, which is too far away) The biggest concern is that OPPO relies on the network country code to determine the region.
Man, and I was really considering buying this phone in the UK. What's the best option, to ask seller to send a sealed unit so it doesn't get activated in China, or get them to install oxigenos and lock bootloader?
