Thinking of buying a Mix 2 - Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 Questions & Answers

So my S7 Edge got the flicker of death and i am starting my hunt for a new phone. I found the Mix 2 has some nice features and is pretty cheap. I plan on buying it on Amazon, Is there anything i should know?
Also does it have Google Play/Store/ect on it? Looking at this one; https://www.amazon.com/Xiaomi-Black-Unlocked-Global-Warranty/dp/B079816Y5T/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_product_top?ie=UTF8

Awesome phone. But selling mine when might max 3 drops. Love the size. And yes global rom has playstore
Sent from my Mi MIX 2 using Tapatalk

I have a mi mix 2 now, because of the fragility of my mi mix. I got fed up of buying the complete lcd assembly (i checked around, nobody here wants to attempt to replace just the glass from the digitizer.), 3x so far in about 18 months.
I was also wanting to get the mi mix 2 (global version) because of the broad spectrum of lte bands with respect to the lack of lte bands with the first mi mix (it's just way more "connectivity reliable" when you have all the lte bands). I found this out the hard way when testing the Razr gaming phone along side my mi mix. The mi mix was lost and slow connecting to data, drove me crazy.
I simply love the design of the Xiaomi line of mi mix's (but this time I didn't pay top dollar like I did when the mi mix was launched), and once you get the boot loader unlocked, the freedom and liberation of using the broad spectrum of rom's, roots, adaway etc, I will probably never go back to a Network available only phone again (hated my Samsung knox and locked down bootloaders for that reason).
If money were no option, and I had to get a new phone, I would get the 2s. But at half the cost (or 40% or so less), the regular mi mix 2 is no slouch.
I will say that the mi mix is a much larger phone, and the screen real estate is much bigger (it is only 0.4" bigger, but it really is much bigger than the numbers show) with respect to the mi mix 2. I never understood why Xiaomi downsized the mi mix 2, and 2s.
Invest in a true bumper tpu shockproof case, and forgo the sleek, thin, and sexy cases. One drop, could be 1) invisible crack, or 2) lens crack or bullseye blister, or 3) broken internally and damaged lens and digitizer.
Then the game of finding a capable and knowledgeable mobile phone tech who will want to attempt to repair a Xiaomi phone. Oh, and you will need to find and track down a lens and digitizer at a fair price (lol, good luck with that), because nobody will have parts for it.
I am not trying to deter you, I am only stating the facts.
Cheers,
lormad

Get the Mix2s instead. By all accounts the upgrades are well worth it. I have the Mix2 and love it and would buy the Mix2s if I didn't have this one. As stated above, invest in a proper case because 90% of those available don't protect the screen adequately. It's a gorgeous but delicate phone and hard to resist the temptation of buying a case that shows it off.

What about this case? Is it resistant?
My Mix 2 will be delivery on the next week.

This is the one I'm using and was recommended by former Mix1 owners as offering the best protection whilst not being too bulky. I'm still looking for something similar in clear tpu. Go to the Accessories threads. Plenty of info there.

sorry sir i dnt know about that because i nvr sent for warrnty on all my prvious phone .
in here at my state/country , warranty claim will take month to be settle and i didnt have the patient to wait for that ,as long the phone functioning good so i just keep using it .
Use a case
Well with specific amount of pressure every aluminium phone is going to bend. That's how aluminium works guys. It's not Xiaomi specific. iPhones bend too even with pressure applied using bare hands. If you don't want your device to be bent then use it carefully. Apply a case. Don't sit on it or probably stop thinking that you bought an explosion proof phone. Simple logic. If it's aluminium its destined to be bent if you apply pressure. So keep your phone safe.
the replacement shells are like 17 shipped, its not end of the world even if it did bend, but yeah a case a no skinny jeans goes a long way.

Mine appears to be bent after ~2 hours of being in my front pocket, with a case. It was either bent out of the box, or Xiaomi is using the cheapest aluminum available. I've never bent or damaged a phone in any way. My iPhone 6s plus is perfect, without the slightest bend, and I've used it caseless for three years. So, yeah, it appears to be a Xiaomi specific problem. If a phone is so fragile you can't even put it in your front pocket, then it's hot garbage.
I read the topic as "Does it blends", I thought it will be a new episode of "will it blend?"

Yeah, phone is so fragile it bends in front pocket.. dont make me laugh. Phone is just fine, this video proves it, as it performs just about same as other devices in this bend test. If its bent, its your fault, not xiaomi.

I've too seen that video, before buying the device, as I knew many other Xiaomis were extremely fragile, like the A1 or the RN4. Asking other users around, it appears that some RN5 are slightly bent out of the box. Even the display unit at a local store is. This is rubbish, I'm returning it, and never buying a Xiaomi phone again. You get what you pay for, I guess. Also, this community is toxic and full of fanboys that can't admit their device is not perfect. If it's bent it's the shoddy build quality's fault, not mine. All my devices are in pristine condition after years of use.

Nothing IS perfect!
It's my first Xiaomi, so I'm far away to be a fan boy and I'm not involved in the community. But for using the smartphone for almost two months, I think it's pretty well made and solid. As most of phones it's not a tank but I'm not very gentle with it, I use the protection wich came in the package and for the moment I have nothing to complain. It felt down twice and no damage to declare.
So in my opinion it's a solid phone.

This phone is anything but flawless. Apparently many Xiaomis are slightly bent out of the box, and that's definitely a symptom of bad quality control. Luckily I returned the RN5p and go a discounted Honor Play for only 15€ more. Night and day difference in build quality.

Apparently, i would like you to give me atleast 1 source for this "bent out of box" claim. Because this is first time im hearing it. And Honor Play starts at 240 euros, where as redmi note 5 starts at 130 euros, so you are comparing apples to oranges here... Budget vs middle tier.

It cannot have bent inside my pocket, with so little time and pressure. The model on display at a local mall is also slightly bent, and users on a reddit tread on r/xiaomi confirmed that other models (A1, A2 lite RN4) appear to have bent either out of the box or without any pressure. In 10 years of using smartphones I've never had to worry about them just bending in my pocket. So, it either was like that out of the box, or they're using soda can-grade aluminium.
Anyway you're comparing the price of an imported from china (so, no warranty at all, and china ROM) in a 3gb of ram edition, to the price of a phone sold locally with a decent warranty of 2 years. The RN5p with 4GB of ram is 199€ here, I've paid my Honor Play 216€ during a sale.
Just take it , most of xiaomi phone suffer from bending issue , they have worst build quality in their product ,i have been a fans of xiaomi product and have been using their product for a long2 time , this bending problem started when they release redmi note 3 or to simplify it when their started to using aluminium material on their phone body parts.

[Q] Redmi Note 8 Frame (Metalic or Plastic?)

Hi all, its been a while since my last thread here at XDA. I´ve been enjoying a lot my RN4 and honestly didn´t find the need or time to mod it. However, it´s been more than two years now using it and it feels more and more slow. Yes, I know, I could put a custom ROM into it and make it fly again, but I was looking at upgrading it, so I can pass my RN4 to my father.
A few months ago I was also checking out the RN7, a great phone spec-wise, but it lacked the Metal Frame. A video on YouTube from JerryRigEverything showed how fragile the phone is when bent. Another tech-tuber from India (maybe tech guruji?) also showed the same thing, the phone isn´t built to resist heavy mechanical stress. And since I need the phone to resist at least 2 years I was looking for a phone with the specs of the RN7 but more robust. Out of nowhere Xiaomi presents the RN8, and I was like: WHAT?!
Phone looks OK, for the price offers a lot IMO. All the features a geek would want. I was looking for the NON-PRO version, since it has SnapDragon. My question is this, does anybody know if the phone has a Metallic OR Plastic frame? Guess I´ll have to wait a bit to find out...
Same plastic material what make youbthink they will put metal on even cheaper phone......metal ia way more expensive....
If you want metallic frame go for Mi A3

Is it worth paying 200€ for a repair in 2021?

Hi everyone.
My brother just updated his OnePlus 7T to a brand new OnePlus 9, so I "inherited" his 7T. The screen is cracked, but it still works, and the back cover is totally cracked too. I just searched in OnePlus and the repair will be around 200-250€. Is it still worth? Or should I just try to buy a new one?
Thanks in advance. I really like this smartphone, but I'm not sure about spending that amount of money in an almost 2 year old phone...
PS: I have been using a OnePlus 5T for the last three years and it's still performing well, but I was thinking about buying a new smartphone because the battery of my 5T is dying.

Nope, next will be the battery.
Put a case on it to hide the back and tempered glass to cover the front crack and good to go
I moved from a oneplus 3T to a 7T three months back and spent about as much you're paying for the repair of the phone. Maybe a little more than that but the jump was astounding. The screen, speakers, cameras all make it worth the upgrade. Although in your case I can see the cost is mostly for repairs than the phone itself. I would personally recommend you go for it and despite the behavior of oneplus not promising updates on time. The usability is far superior than any previous phone I've owned
There may be additional internal damage.
Always keep these phones in a good case...
I second @HueyT
Of the phone still works out a good cover on the back and a glass or sapphire screen protector on the front and use it until you can afford what you want or until it dies.
Thanks everyone for the replies! Finally, I think I'll repair only the screen. I can buy a back cover from aliexpress for 15€ and put it by myself, and then send it to OnePlus to have a "new" phone for 190€. Looking for other phones, I won't probably find another smartphone like the 7T for that price so...

Question Help me decide. I have S21U. Should I get the Z Fold 3?

Amazon has a really great price on the unlocked US version and comes with the Buds as well for $1500! I currently have the S21 Ultra. The Ultra has bigger battery, better camera, and dust resistant.
If I were to buy the Fold I would keep my Ultra.
So is it worth switching? I'm a huge Note fan as well. Would it be wise to maybe wait until Feb and see if the s22 Ultra is basically the Note with built in Spen?
I was also toying with the idea of scoring a deal on a Tab S7 since I need a new tablet. Would it maybe just be best to stick with the S21 Ultra, buy my tablet and then get the S22 Ultra in Feb?
I'm also worried about the Fold 3 and screen cracking in the middle I'm seeing a lot on Reddit.
Just go for it. The fold 3 is better than any tablet. And the advantage of having the phone and the tablet with you really makes a difference.
I came from an S21 Ultra, and switched to Fold 3, I'm very pleased with the change, at the start, I did miss the S21 camera, but the Fold 3 camera is still fine for me.
The rest of the Fold 3 is fantastic, the for media consumption, is just brilliant using that center screen.
This is with me all the time, which a tablet wouldnt be.
Reliability wise, it feels very well built, and the screen doesn't feel fragile at all (I had the fold 2 before this, and never had any problems with the screen through my ownership)
Hold your horses if you want to root - its far better on the S21 for that right now - i can guarantee that lol
Ive seen enough videos side by side with the camera and IMO they look very similar, I'm sure the s21 zoom is amazing but for normal shots side by side its pretty hard to tell the difference.
You basically get a folding tablet in your pocket vs a typical phone thats what you get. Is it worth it? I think hell yes
I love the folds. this is my second after Fold 2 (for a year). Fold 3 hasnt been as reliable as fold 2 for me. Screen is already having issues after having sand in the hinge. I see so many screen failures in reddit group and samsung refuses to cover those under warranty even if it was not fault of your own. so be mindful of that.

this is very personal. I cant live without a large screen in pocket. So personally I'll chose fold everytime.
S22 isnt going to be radically differnt from s21U. Minor improvements everywhere wont make it a replacement for fold 3.
I personally hate having to do anything productive or even researching a product on normal phones, Fold solves that problem very well. I've tab s7+ too which I use only for media consumption.

What about the camera downgrade and the fragile screen? A lot of people are having the Fold's main screen break, even after just a few days.
So, the main takeaway is will most be happy or disappointed switching from the S21U to the Fold?
Keep the s21. I think if you want a foldable the flip is the better buy. But it depends.
I got the fold 3 for about 1100 on swappa as soon as it was released in august. The device feels great. The hinge is satisfying the 120 hz on both screens are nice (albeit marginal improvements). Generally the ability to see more detailed content is wonderful.
But
The cell signal is bad, the battery is bad, the display is fragile (inner display), the outer display you can do very little on, and the list goes on (including the camera experience just not being comparable to the s21). I like the fold 3 as an experiment and it is a jack of all trades master of none in my eyes. Lots of work needs to be done.
If you want to beta test it be my guest. But there’s a ton of issues I have. And I’ll probably always reach for my iPhone first
You just simply have to ask yourself: what do you actually need?
In my case, I am not a photography enthusiast, but I had to carry my cellphone and my tablet every time I go.
Phone for communication (of course), and tablet to carry all my (more than 100GB) documents everywhere (to work on my papers, read some textbooks, ...)
I found it is much more convenient now to carry only one gadget that can serve as a phone and as a tablet at once.
It's rather bulky and heavy, I admit, as a phone. That is the price I have to pay, I guess.
I went from Fold2 to S21U ... after 3 months I went back to fold 2, now I have the Fold3
I understand what I need
Once you've used the Fold, it's hard to go back
Honestly, I am not a fan of these "help me decide" posts. If you need all of us to convince you that you want/need this phone, then you probably are not going to be convinced. There is only ONE person that can "convince" you and that is you.
Look at reviews, look at tests, look at everything and then decide. If you need to HOLD one, then ping a friend with one or go to a store and hold it. No amount of words are going to convince you if you are not already convinced.
Good luck on your search and hope you settle on something that makes you happy!

I got mine about 2 weeks ago but good thing is to keep it clean that will fix any issues from the folding screen even tho it's the 3rd gen it's still fragile I like it bc I had the z flip I loved it but I did miss the bigger screen of a tablet so I waited and got my z fold for 189 just 2 weeks ago but yeah just use air duster to keep the dust out don't take to really dusty places and make sure you don't put anything else in your pocket with the z fold 3 no debit cards no nothing and get you a rugged case with hinge protection there's like 3 or 4 cases that are not to bulky and when you clean the screens use lens cleaner

Question Upgrading to Fold 5.

Might be early, but whom will be doing that?
I will first have a look at the new Pixel Fold, compare it with the Fold 5 and decide then.
Fold 5 could be the choice, if the pen is integrated in the device and battery capacity is improved.
There's no hurry ...
Only reading the rumours (and I totally appreciate they are only rumours) that it is going to be a be a very similar device to the fold 4 with only a hinge change I'm not going to bother. To me, it's not worth paying the premium again.
I'm still really enjoying my fold 3 and it serves me very well. I've not noticed any slow down or battery drop off.
The pixel fold was tempting but I occasionally use the s pen, which I think I would miss. And given Samsung haven't failed the Fold3 with software or security updates I'm not too bothered.
I will miss their camera though!
Not going for a first gen folding phone

Yeah, the Fold 5 is gonna have a similar footprint as the Fold 4. However the crease on the Fold 5 will be less noticable and it will have no gap when closed.

To be honest Samsung has put me off of folding anything, as well as Samsung Products. I waited to get a folder until I thought the tech was mature enough, as someone else said , I'm not buying a gen 1 device. I had the S21 Ultra and it was rad. We switched Carriers and I thought the ZFold 3 would be neat, and it was for the first couple of weeks. After showing it off to everyone that wanted to see it and settling in to normal use, I quickly figured out that I had downgraded while spending way more on the device. The folding quickly became a rarely used gimmick, I would say I used it once or twice a week, that's not Samsung's fault, I should have thought more about my own needs and habits. As a bar phone it fell short of the older s21 ultra in every metric that I cared about, that is on Samsung and Me, I should have done more due diligence. What Put me off of Samsung though is how they handled the Warranty. 3 days before my warranty expired the seam in the fold went and the inner screen was done for. Samsung told me to take it to the Asurion repair shop and they informed me that no mater what it was going to be considered external damage, even though I had never dropped it or over used the fold. I had to replace it, even though it was known issue. I have been with Samsung since the Behold 2, I have had so many of their phones and products over the years and its just a bummer. I almost sold our bespoke fridge over it, but its just so pretty. So nah, I dont think Im gonna buy it. Sorry, that rant came out of no where.
I have been put off folding phones because of how I have to really take care when the phone is opened. I had the bubbling issue with the factory screen protector and after visiting a samsung store to see if I could get it replaced they declined, I like my fold 3 and will use it a little longer but think my next phone will be the s24 ultra when that comes out.
That is not always the case. I had the issue with my inner screen protector and Samsung Repair Center in Zurich replaced it at no charge.
They mentioned, it's done for free only once, the next time, I have to pay 50 bucks to get it replaced.

Wow, how do you NOT use the inner screen on this phone?! I very rarely use the outer screen, and am on the inner one all day. Only times I use the outer one is in the car (it is in a wireless charging arm that comes down from the dashboard next to my Android car unit screen), for the stopwatch while using mouthwash (takes up less counter space folded), and if I'm doing something quick (like turning on a Vibe on my Apollo Neuro device) while it is folded for being in my purse or on a wireless charger. I'm glad the outer screen is there, especially for the Always-On screen to see the time, calendar, and notifications, but the inner one is so much better and more useful for everything. A lot easier to type on, too.
I replaced the inner screen protector with the White-whatever one once (there was a bubble creeping along the fold and it no longer had the anti-fingerprint feature) and it was pretty easy to do. Have had this since a few days before launch day. Another year and some months to finish paying it off, so we'll see what's out then for folding phones, but I usually don't upgrade often.

Especially when it has older hardware, like the Pixel Fold. I might forgo the Pixel 8P and go straight for the Fold 2. That's the only way I can justify spending for two phones.
Rather upgrade to Fold 5 versus pixel fold 1.

What are the reviews I'm currently using S22 ultra is it a good idea to switch to fold. I want an honest review about this! Want to switch on fold.

Im actually considering to upgrade. I soo far love the Fold 3 as it is and its been a wonderful experience soo far. And seeing news and leaked images of the Fold 5 is making me want to upgrade. There is also the Pixel Fold being launched soon to the market and I also heard that Oneplus is working on one already. I thought Ill wait until all these releases and then opt the best out of the lot!
How good are the Fold devices from Samsung? Do you recommend me getting once cause Im really intrigued by them and I want them to be performing well enough too. Are they optimized enough and do they get slow over time? How is the battery performance? Ive also heard about multiple applications not being well optimized to the Aspect Ratio of the phone since the Main has a big screen, how does this affect the UX and what about the gaming compatibilities?
I would love to know about the requested queries!

The best thing for you to do is go into a store and play around with a demo unit to see if it is good for you. As everybodys opinon of the device is different and it is all based on user preference

They are pretty good in my opinion. Ive been using the Fold 3 for a while now and there is no major complaints as such. Like @iceepyon mentioned, its always good to check it hands-on for a better understanding of the device and your liking towards it.

Okay I get that! Nothing beats a hands-on experience on the device itself so yes, I think I will check the device out in real to truly understand if its for me or not.
But since ya'll have been using the Fold on a daily basis for a while, I wanted to know how good it is on a long term and as a daily driver for daily usage and stuff.
