Manual update S9 without losing data? - Samsung Galaxy S9 Questions & Answers

Hey guys,
little issue here, hopefully somebody can advice.
Phone is S9 F-Version (XSG CSC) rooted with SuperSU.
I download the latest firmware update via sammobile and have AP/BL/CP/HOME_CSC files. I download for XEF but from what I understand XSG/XEF/and certain others are OXM (multi CSC)-files, so the CSC doesn't matter, right?
I flash them with ODIN but my user-data is always gone. Not a big deal since I backup everything before, so a quick restore user-data partition and I'm all good, but its annoying.
Also everything that is NOT stored on this partition is gone as well and since I can't restore the system partition without going back "pre-update" this is more of an issue.
Is there any way to flash the new firmware without having those issues and without having to restore stuff after?
thanks

I have the same question as OP. How to update without losing data when rooted?

Anyone have G928PVPS3BPK1 TAR?

After flashing an international roms on my G928P and trying to get LTE on it, I guess at some point I corrupted my EFS partition. Without knowing though I ODIN'd back to firmware G928PVPS3BPJ2 and performed a factory reset with stock android recovery. That unfortunately blew away my TWRP backup so I no longer have my EFS backup :crying:
I'm able to only successfully flash G928PVPS3BPJ2 firmware on ODIN (anything older fails), but even doing so my baseband still shows up as unknown. The only other thing I can think of is that before messing things up, I was actually on the latest firmware G928PVPS3BPK1 which I can't seem to find a TAR file for online. Doing a search just leads me to middle eastern websites that require payment. Does anyone have this file or have an idea on how I can get my baseband back?
Samsung Smartswitch doesn't work because it won't take my S/N (which may also have gotten corrupted?).

Here is the best place in my opinion to DL the TAR file, you have to sign up for an account but its nothing to concern about. GL on that! The link is ... https://www.sammobile.com/

Restoring stock ROM - root, TA, recovery and such

Hi!
I need to restore my Z1C to a "non-tampered" condition. I've got my TA backed up and I've restored the earliest TWRP I had. I'm now on stock T-Mobile branded ROM, 14.4.A.0.157, but still it remains rooted (I needed to backup the TA first somehow) and TWRP is still present. I just need to make sure that everything I've done is gone (I don't mind flashing stock LP if needed) and as far as I know only those two and TA are left. I tried looking it up, but found no reliable/sufficient info, so I've got few questions:
1. Is there any way in which i could get rid of root and recovery without flashing a clean TFT?
2. Am I correct in assuming, that flashing latest Lolipop TFT from XperiFirm with appropriate branding would get my phone in the same state as an OTA update and factory reset on an nontampered phone?
3. If I were to flash a TFT file right now, I should FIRST restore the TA, then flash stock using Flashtools, correct?
4. On the subject of preparing a TFT, I've read, that you shouldn't push .ta files. My chosen ROM contains following:
simlock.ta
cust-reset.ta
fota-reset.ta
boot/Amami_S1BootConfig_MiscTA.ta
Apart from simlock.ta, which sounds obviously horrible (this phone haven't ever had a simlock anyway), I heard, that I should leave out the *-reset.ta files, right? But what about the last one? My TA backup is made on a 4.4 system and this is a 5.1 ROM as far as I know and I wouldn't want it to cause any issues. I'm also very curious about the purpose of those "reset" files. When you would actually consider using them?
I would really appreciate any help and/or resources. Thanks in advance!

Not an expert on any of this, but I have done quite a bit of flashing etc, and my two cents is...
1. If I wanted 100% stock, I would probably use Emma. It's official Sony tool, and probably will wipe/reset whatever you're trying to. Also not as many expert-type options, etc...
2. You might be better off posting in Flashtool and/or XperiFirm threads for answers to technical questions.

Flashing my Duos S9 (Currently set to ILO/ILO,XSG/XSG) with ILO firmware

Hey there,
I want to flash my S9 that came with crappy CSC (I don't receive any OTA updates since May 2018) with the following firmware: SM-G960F/ILO/download/G960FXXU2CSB3
Should I use the HOME_CSC or the regular CSC that wipes the device? (I don't have any issue with that - I'll back up everything)
I'm just afraid that I'll brick my phone since I've never done this before.
Help would be most appreciated
Thanks
help please ?

update t805w to t805 btu 6.0 help

Hi, I'm no stranger to flashing custom ROMs on Samsung's. Been doing it to s3, s4, s7 and the s8 amongst having a plethora of nexus phones that went back and forth with Android pure or Los.
I plan on upgrading the software on my t805w to marshmallow since never received the update ota.
I also would like to install the UK BTU image as its my go to for stock firmware. Also I don't want to erase the data already on the tablet so I'm guessing in going to be using the home CSC.
Would someone please list what I need to flash so I can install the latest Canadian BL, Modem and then the right version of the UK android image without wiping my data.
I hope this would also remove any stock bloatware left over from the carrier on 5.0.2.
If this proves a pain to wipe without clearing data then I'll guess I'll go down the route of twrp and BTU flash then magisk to debloat BTU further with Titanium backup
Cheers

I would not suggest using the home_csc in this case. Your going from non-carrier branded firmware to firmware that is carrier branded. If keeping your data intact is a requirement then just keep what you have on the phone.
Also remember that part of the process requires you to factory data reset the device after flashing the U1 firmware. FDR after flashing the U1 firmware makes sure that everything will work properly.
Not doing a FDR after flashing U1 firmware (or vice versa) can result in something not working right. As an example I flashed Tmobile firmware onto my U1 firmware without a FDR and had constant OTA errors. I had other issues as well, all of which were the result of skipping the FDR step.
Myself personally I didn't even use smartswitch to restore a backup. When I tried all my backups were from the U1 firmware (and not from the U firmware I was using), and attempts to restore a backup always resulted in problems happening again. Ya it meant I had to restore everything and stuff... But it was a small price to pay for having a problem free experience afterwards.

So you meant there is no way to switch from unlock to Verizon firmware without full wipe?

Whether your going from U firmware to U1 (or U1 to U) a FDR would be necessary if you want everything to work properly.
