Can't turn on WiFi - HTC 10 Questions & Answers

Hi guys, I have discovered an issue few days before. My WiFi don't became on when I turn on the screen. Same as if I want to turn it on manually, the switcher in settings came back to off position itself again and again. But after few try it stayed in on position - but only sometimes. Sometimes I have to reboot phone to get working wifi, immediately after reboot it working without issue. Maybe it have something to do with deep sleep.
I have tried reflash the ROM(leedroid), kernel, uninstall Magisk and now even restore stock TWR backup. But problem is still here. I'm S-ON and don't know what I can try next.

Is there the possibility that the Wi-Fi module of the phone itself (hardware) is acting up ? Just thinking out loud for a bit......

I don't know how to verify it. But I'm not alone who have this issue acording to LeeDroid thread. But I think it must be software issue. If try to switching it on again and again, after few try it generaly turn on the wifi.. From the other end, when wifi working and I turn screen off, wait a few minutes and turn it on, wifi is still running. I have the option that turning on wifi in sleep mode..

It's very strange that just a handful of the complete user base is having this issue. You also restored your stock rom so it's not a leedroid thing for sure, it's also not a mismatch firmware/software (because it's happening on stock software too)
I'm running out of ideas to be honest

Mine even bluetooth stopped too. But I will try flashing official rom and see if that helps.

I've had the opposite problem where my wifi won't turn off unless I reboot it.
I'm about done with this phone. WiFi has always been crap, and phone still reboots randomly several times a day, despite going to Oreo from a clean RUU and trying a couple different ROMs (Maximus and LeeDroid).
Sad thing is, my M8 is still kicking and is bulletproof. My son puts that thru the works and it can't be killed.

I have same problem. In WiFi settings, I always set Keep WiFi on during sleep to 'never'. After I did something with radio settings using dialer code *#*#4636*#*#, I have started facing this issue. For now, I set that setting to 'Always'. I don't know if resetting phone will fix it. I'm using official software from HTC.

I will going to downgrade to Nougat and try it on Nougat firmware with the guide I posted bellow as I'm S-On. Hoping that I not ended up with bricked phone
https://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-10/how-to/how-to-rollback-oreo-to-marshmallow-s-t3787101

Hi guys, let me inform you that I'm o Nougat now and my WiFi problem is gone, it working without issue! So it is not a hardware problem and it has nothing to do with ROM or Kernel. It is something in Oreo (or firmware) what causing this. Maybe there is a problem in OTA to Oreo, who knows. I will take the OTA (by official way) to Oreo later this week and we will see

I'm still on Leedroid Oreo, I turned off button light notifications and volume button tweaks and I have not had the wifi problem since.

Those are totally not related to each other, code and settings don't come near Wi-Fi actions. BLN is btw a kernel tweak, volume buttons a rom tweak. I bet my life on it that its something else.
And to ensure you, i use the same tweaks. All fine on my end.

I have tried take OTA by official way = WiFi issue on Oreo
I have tried install OTA from recovery = WiFi issue on Oreo
I have tried install Oreo RUU after OTA to Oreo = WiFi issue on Oreo
But everytime when I downgrade to Nougat, WiFi wokrs like a charm..
Anyone have idea what I can try next? I think that issue is in the Oreo update
@Mr Hofs Wich version are u using? WWE? How you upgraded to Oreo? Thanks

Ah oké, i installed the 2.41 ruu and updated via OTA. My Wi-Fi is always on. I'm not using the option to turn it off when the phone sleeps.
Full setup
- 3.16 firmware via official ota
- Basic leedroid rom
- Root via SU (no magisk for me)
No modifications whatsoever.

So u updated by the official way as me (setup is same for me). Interesting. Can you try turn on the option which turn off wifi when phone sleep (only without charger) and test it for day or two? Watch on your wifi when You wake up your phone..
It might be enough if you turn it on when you go sleep and watch wifi in the morning when you wake up your phone. And your phone have to unplaged from charger over night..

Sure, will start testing it after work. will report back tomorrow.

Also maybe good to mention is that i am using a 5ghz network. I put the option that my Wi-Fi always go to sleep. Let's see what happens til tomorrow

I wonder if turning wifi scanning off, in location settings, is also a trigger. I think I didn't have any issues with it, then yesterday I turned wifi scanning off and today my wifi toggle didn't work and I had to reboot my phone to ge it back.

I've been playing with different Wi-Fi settings last night and this morning i unlock the device, Wi-Fi reconnected and it continues as nothing happened.
Sorry but i just can't get it to fail.

[Q] Wifi constantly cutting out on eMIUI 1.1.14

This is driving me crazy. I had stock 2.2 on my HTC Desire before, and wifi worked perfectly. Then I changed to Miui because my internal memory was chock full and now I discover that Wifi constantly cuts out without the phone switching to mobile data. This means that I've been without email notifications for hours at a time without realising. Each time I want to use my phone to surf while at home, I have to turn wifi off and then back on.
Anyone know what causes this or how I can fix it?
Update to the latest radio? To be honest, using custom roms always have their bugs. Just because they are 2.2, they are no way near the same version of coding that you get from a manufacturer so yes, there are going to be some bugs and flaws in custom roms. You could try to update the radio as I said to 5.14.05.17. You could also try putting the Wi-Fi to never sleep, Settings > Wi-Fi and Networks > Wi-Fi settings, press menu key and click advanced, changed the Wi-Fi sleep policy to never or if they don't work, backup your data and just flash the rom again with no data wipe.

I already set it to "never sleep" - it was the first thing I changed when wifi started dropping. The radio was already at the level they mentioned before I flashed it, as well, so I can't upgrade that either. I'll see what if it gets any better by rebooting it and maybe changing some settings on my router - if it doesn't, I'll do the re-flash but somehow I doubt it will fix it.
It'll be most likely a problem with the rom.

Wifi trouble (staying connected) Stock Rom 4.1.1

I had downgraded back to Stock ROM 4.1.1 everything was fine.
But the WiFi is very sketchy. It stops or times out or something all the time. I can't seem to keep the wifi on.
Is there a workaround for this. I tried the trick of *#0011# and turn the wifi power save off but it doesn't stay off after a reboot it comes right back on. So I am not sure what I am doing wrong. Any ideas?

Might need to update your wifi drivers.
Also could be coming from your router.
Do you know where I can get the wifi drivers? Or is it in a Kernel or something?

updated kernel would probably fix your issue. If it doesn't though, chances are that it's coming from your router or your router's settings.
I checked my router and its working fine. There is no problems with it. I am a computer technician. So I know there isn't anything wrong with it.
I have tried several kernels and they are all doing the same thing. I'm afraid I will just have to go back to an AOSP rom or something. I didn't have problems with them...

WIFI will not turn on

Same issue here.
I get around it by forgetting network then just signing in again. Wifi works perfectly until I leave the house and return later. Then I just do the above and viola, working wifi.
I've checked with speed test app and wifi is definitely working.
Funny thing is, if I switch off wifi then turn back on it also works.
Only when ive left home and returned later does this bug arise.
Hello guys,
This thread is a little bit old, but I am curious to know if you found a workaround for this issue.
I have the same problem as the OP (not at the second poster): since I received Stock Lollipop the WiFi won't turn on. When I try to, it says "turning on" for a while then acts like it is off.
I just bought my LG G3, NCIX the reseller, refuses to refund me or replace my phone...
I performed several factory resets and tried to flash different KK stock Roms. The weird thing is that the WiFi works with KK...
Thanks for your help.
Identical experience here.
I recently got a D855 16GB, which was on stock unbranded V10a, jumped through several OTA updates through V10g, V10j, and V10k (IIRC) all with wifi working fine before getting the lollipop upgrade OTA for V20c.
Immediately wifi will not switch on - the switch itself is on, but with the off section a lighter grey compared to the bluetooth switch.
On the wifi screen itself it says "Turning Wi-Fi on..." but after a while the switch reverts to off.
It's now had OTAs to V20e and V20h, but wifi is dead on both versions.
Note that this is stock and unrooted (never rooted) so I can't believe it's something I've done. Next trick will be to root and poke around /data/misc/wifi.
Does bluetooth work or the problem is only with the wifi? I also have the same problem, wifi, bluetooth is not working and when I check in the settings the mac adress it says "unknown".

Unfortunately this isn't a unique problem. There have been countless bad updates from multiple manufacturers. In this litigious world, I'm surprised no one has sought damages for bad updates that effect usability.
I have the same problem from yesterday. wifi and bluetooth seem to be turning on but they never turn on. i've done many factory resets but it didn't work. has someone found a solution?
^^^ Exactly the same issue. Would love a solution!
Same issue. Tried Hard and soft reset and have also updated firmware using LG Mobile Support Tool but had no success.

ok, after 24h with this problem I think I got it back to working. Let me explain what have I done:
1. Mine is a dual sim model, that I bought in hong kong by the end of 2014.
2. Yesterday, I removed sim #2 (no longer needed), without removing the battery. I had a couple of messages indicating to restart the phone, blah blah. Can't remember if I finally restarted it or not.
3. This morning I saw no wifi connection in my phone, only 3G. Tried to start wifi in the quick access menu, but this kept blinking, never starting wifi. Restarting phone... nothing. turning off bluetooth... nothing.
I figured out that the problem had to be related with the SIM as this is the last thing I had done with the phone. Thus, I tried this, with success:
4. I turned off the phone, changed sim from slot #1 to slot#2 and started the phone. Wow, it worked for some minutes, then stopped, then started again. Well, a good sign.
5. Changed again sim from slot #2 to slot #1: Wifi working again. After some time it stopped working, but soon started again. Hasn't given me more problems (after only 30 min, that's true).
Hope it helps.

Got the same problem here. I have my G3 since november 2014 and recently I rooted it to install CM 13 on it and Xposed bcs I got tired of the laggy software of LG. One morning I woke up to drink some water and saw my phone restarting a lot of time... ok I thought its a simple bootloop. Tried to install CM again, didnt fix it. Flashed stock software and still... Bought new battery and new power flex and the problem is still there. I go into download mode, installed the software with LGs support tool and got pass the bootloop, but now wifi nor bluetooth works. I thought it's the software so I dared myself again to root it and installed TWRP and CM13, but it wouldn't boot. I installed then Liquidsmooth, based on CM13, and got it to boot up, but in the configuration menu where WiFi is needed to be added it couldn't turn on. I skiped it and in the middle of the process it started again to restart. I don't know if it's a hardware based problem or software... But I would like to try everything out before I have to buy a new phone.

Have you maybe tried to change the kernel of your device? I have never done that so I am scared if I would damage something.

Here someone says it's the kernel that is having problems and installing a new one and going maybe back to the old one will fix it.

I installed CM13 and in the setup screen I actually had wifi and I could connect to my router. It was kinda strange. But bcs I have some problems beside wifi, the reboot thing, I couldn't test out if it works too. Try flashing CM13 or ROMs that are based on it like Liquidsmooth. Maybe it will help.

All very fine in my Op5t with 8.1 5.1.1
Do you have battery saving apps installed and are you running stock? I've got the same issue here. Deep sleep breaks wifi. When I turn the screen on (exiting deep sleep), I either need to wait long for it to connect, or sometimes just have to reboot to get it to connect at all. I've contacted support but I think this may take some time...
Same problem here. I reflashed 5.0.4 after a factory reset. It still happens. The ONLY thing that changed is I keep getting notified to update my os. There's a check box to automatically download over WiFi. Could this have screwed something up?
I've started having other strange problems like Chrome getting very laggy periodically, and have had to reboot more these past two weeks because of connectivity issues than I have in the entire time I've owned the phone.
My next step is to do a complete wipe off everything and start completely over, but I'm doubtful this will help.

This is the issue! If you switch the setting to "always on", there is no problem. So yeah I am having the same problem, very annoying. "wifi only on when plugged in" is broken, and then wifi settings keep crashing!

Any suggestions on how to debug this?
