Hey guys!
Before any of you mention that I should have used the Search button before asking, I must say that if I write these lines, it's because I'm really desperate.
In order to slow down a bit footages taken with my Mi5s, I would like to go from 1080p30 to 1080p60. I saw that it was indeed possible with our Mi 5s aka capricorn, and I have been trying to enable it without success for a week now. I already installed several versions of Arnova's or BSG's Google Camera, made several clean installations, tried again, etc, etc..
I know I must be stupid or forgetting always the same thing since the start but I'm now stuck and I request your help.
Here is my actual configuration :
- Mi 5s 64 GB
- Bootloader unlocked
- TWRP installed (last version I think)
- LOS 15.1 installed
I'm currently using Arnova's version. The About section gives me this name: "GoogleCamera-Pixel2Mod-Arnova8G2" in version 7. I have the 30 or 60 fps toggle, but it actually records in 30 fps whatever the setting chosen.
Thanks in advance,
Nicolas

Already checkedn but I'm looking for even more basic stuff. I'm only interested in 60fps 1080p. I would be in EIS, but I doubt it is possible without Xiaomi's source...

flash this,you can get 1080p60
thanks for the answer ! May I ask what it is?
EDIT: I figured out myself that these are libraries for the sensor of the mi5s and dude, it works! Thank you very much !
One additional question: is it possible to have both EIS and 1080p60 by using a MIUI camera port for example?

What did you do to make it working? And what version of camera are you using?
I can't get past 43fps
EDIT:
I've upgraded to latest gcam (GoogleCamera-Pixel2Mod-Arnova8G2-V7.7) and now I'm getting 59fps even on HEVC.
For some reason version GoogleCamera-Pixel2Mod-Arnova8G2-V7beta-test-9 was not working and Pixel2Mod-Arnova8G2-MinSettings-Tolyan009-v4-for-Xiaomi-mi5s neither.
In the meanwhile I installed the AR core, stickers and the calibration magisk module. Don't know if it's correlated.
Hello!
I followed these steps :
- Unlocked bootloader (a long time ago)
- Made a clean install of the last version of TWRP
- Made a clean install of LOS15.1
- Flashed Super SU if I remember well but it isn't useful here
- I flashed the latest zip of Arnova's Google Cam (not on the Mi 5S subforum, but can't search it, I'm on phone), I said the version I'm currently using.
- Applied the same settings as a guy in the BSG Camera feedback topic for Mi5s (2nd page I think, easy to spot, he says that with LOS15, Arnova's is better than BSG)
- Flashed the zip that was advised to me
Now I can choose 60fps before recording and VLC indeed sees a framerate of 60fps with my test footages !

You're running MIUI or LOS 15.1?
I'm running LOS 15.1, the 20180514 nightly to be exact
Pixel2Mod-Arnova8G2-MinSettings-Tolyan009-v4-for-Xiaomi-mi5s works for me, I have 1080p60 fps. I use the magisk module "MI 5S libhack camera enhancements" here https://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=4424257&d=1518987750.
Just flash and you good. slow motion in 240 fps work too.

Thanks but it already works now
Do you have EIS?
Can't reach 60 fps (got nearly 59) but it seems working in hevc. So far so good.

What is it?
Simply put, it makes your pictures better, much better. While there are many other camera apps, none are like Google Camera with HDR+. It not only improves dynamic range but noise and color rendition.

Where can I get it?
Please note that we get updates frequently and there are also modified version of BSG's ports.
For BSG's ports, @Kisakuku thankfully has been updating new versions on this thread with recommended settings.
For modified versions as well as BSG's ports, you may check @S4turno's own website here

You might as well check out OP5 and OP3 thread as those are more active. You will notice their ongoing discussion is about touch focus not working. Lucky, we do not have such problems on LP1.

Has been running on my phone for the last 7 days, no issues whatsoever. Video/and slow-mo working. On other versions videos werent saving to the device.
With this camera 4pda.ru user B-S-G did a monstrous adaptation job!
For LOS 14.1 from Team Superluminal I use this version:
GCam_4.4.012.156195200_MI5S_MIUI_Android_7.0_PIXEL_II_XL_v.1.1
Never seen such beautiful and defined photos/videos on the Lex 720! Everything works! It's a pity that there is no manual mode, but to be an automatic camera does a really good job! Cheers!
I test miui version, pixel version, ecc ecc but video and slow motion, after start and stop record, no save file.
I use aicp last version with 3.3 kernel black screen

Try the one I mentioned.
I tried all the versions that have been posted. it seems strange that I have this problem. perhaps it is the version of the Roma. photos are perfect and are saved without problem. but the video, once stopped, it seems that saves, but then on the gallery there is nothing. soon will be released a new version of the AICP see if I have this problem.
I have x727 on newest omni weekly:
Mod_GCam_4.4.012_MI5S_7.0H_Cam2API_Final_1.0.apk
works for everything, slow mo, lens blur
Note that different copies are expected to show different image quality, not just whether it works or not. The best way to test it is taking a shot of high DR scene and see noise level differences.
I see B-G-R is still working on fine tuning noise/detail performance. Too bad I cannot download directly from the site as it gives 404 error somehow. I can only hope @snowwolf725 to keep uploading it on AFH until the end.
In all, it is a game changer. The worst thing about LP1 and majority of Chinese phones are their low IQ. Google Camera HDR+ can fix that.
Do any of these have the snapdragon optimizations? I noticed that the paranoid release has the camera with snapdragon optimizations and taking photos is instantaneous.
For the lastest AICP, tried few included that you mentioned, but Slow Motion makes app crappy. What should I do?
I ran a simple test on 5 random different versions. Image quality differences were minimal to the point it may not be easily distinguishable on a phone screen but visible on 32inch 4k monitor.
Noticed differences were...
a. saturation - some were neutral while others were strong.
b. noise - some had stronger noise reduction applied which resulted in blotchy gradation with less detail.
I think there should be DR difference but my test setting was not suitable for that.

4PDA gives you 404 most likely because you are not registered at their forum board. Once you register, you can download directly without any problems.
I change rom from aicp to omni and the camera work good. Now video and slow motion save on sdcard.

This is big improvement over previous ones. In settings, you can config camera - N6P, N6, N5X, PixelXL, NexusExp2016, NexusExp2017, ExpPixelXL. Also an option to save DNG files when taking HDR+ images, video stabilization, and many others. But there is a catch: it crashes once you go into the setting. I guess updated versions will hopefully fix this issue.
EDIT: It does not crash once you go into config camera setting and choose a phone model.

I was using nexus 6p but realized auto flash doesn't work on that profile. It didn't work on pixel XL profile either. I'm using nexus 6 profile now and everything seems to work.
Of note I'm using
MGCB_7.0H_C2API_Min_v.2.1_AllinOne+60fps+BurstOff.apk
Edit. Just updated to 3.0.3 (all in one) and it works on nexus 6p profile with auto flash working and burst mode working as well.

Hi - longtime flasher but Xiaomi-newb here.
Is there any way to get a working gcam on the RN5 (global; MIUI 9.5.13.0) with a still locked bootloader?
From what I've read, Gcam on the RN5 needs enabled camera2 api - which needs either root or TWRP - both of which need the bootloader to be unlocked (which will take 15 days).
Any way around this or speeding up the bootloader-unlocking (all the old tricks seem not to work any longer)? I'll be travelling in a couple of days and would really like a working GCam by then
TIA!

Older versions of google camera works fine in Redmi note 5 pro with locked bootloader without modification to system files
I have tested these apk
https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/google-inc/camera/camera-4-1-006-135988111-release/
Without HDR mode
https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/google-inc/camera/camera-2-7-008-release/
With HDR Mode
These doesn't have portrait and slow motion video option but it has lens burn option and also 4k video is available in these apps
Thanks SunilSuni for the quick help.
I can confirm both linked Gcams working with a locked bootloader :good:
Photosphere also works on both, Video does not work on 4.1 (FC), but does work on 2.7.
Thanks again!

Yiu can compare HDR images.. google camera takes better images with HDR enabled compare to stock camera
Not sure about that. I took a couple shots to compare, they are mostly the same. Sometimes there are slight differences, but they seem to favor randomly Gcam or StockCam.
More time to play around next week - thanks again!

Hey guys,
I really like the google camera but it seems like I can't get 4k (30fps) video recording up and running. If I switch it on, the camera force closes, no matter what I do or what version I use.)
Right now I am at the latest version of saneklic (2018-07-21; MGCamera_5.1.0.18_R5Plus_v.5.1.17_fix_crash.apk)
I know about the tutorial claiming you need to enable it in some "whyred.xml" which is in a "device feature folder" (a folder somewhere in system/etc/) or something like that, but there is no such thing in a custom rom: it exists only on MIUI. I've already tried every tutorial possible, but nothing helps.
4k is working with the lineage snap, the google camera picture quality is much better though and I really prefere the gcam (because of additional settings/mods)
Thank you very much, any help is very much appreciated. If someone can help me, I will donate you a coffee :highfive:

Hey man, I'm really disappointed so far by RN5, I couldn't find a way to record stabilized 4K on custom roms, not even with Open Camera which worked fine on MIUI 10. I have a two year old RN3 which records 4K with gcam (not stabilized) and takes slightly better photos than RN5.
So far i've tried RR, LOS and AEX. 4K recording crashes any camera I've used. Open Camera just gives an error. Waited 2 weeks to unlock bootloader, thinking it will open the gates of heaven. In fact been through hell since I unlocked(yesterday). Antirollback is like a minefield which I luckily avoided, then front camera barely works with gcam, some slight battery drain with custom roms and now 4K recording is broken. Feels like I've downgraded my phone.
Think I'll try to flash MIUI 10, root it, enable camera 2 api for gcam and use Open Camera for EIS enabled 4K. Btw the latest gcam by alone_in_dark works best, even front camera works quite good, try it.
Edit: I flashed MIUI 10, once I enabled camera2 api 4K doesn't work. So it's either 4K or HDR+. Thanks Xiaomi.

Can't say no to that. But since 4K (3840 × 2160 resolution) doesn't appear in open camera after enabling camera2 api, I don't think there's a fix for that. It appears only 4000 x 2000 2:1 which gives an error. I did manage to get 4K working with another third party camera, but without EIS. Because RN5 can record 4K with excellent stabilization it's a pitty not to use it. So now if I want to record something I just use another build.prop without cam2.api then reboot, and switch back to enabled cam2.api prop when I want to use HDR+

This is horrible! I mean is it a firmware issue or some custom rom problem? Unfortuantly I'm not much into mobile software development... I really really want a fix, I would even pay money for it xD :highfive:
Edit_0: If we take a look at this link; a possible solution is shown but it doesn't work... a hotfix would be cool but meh it's alright you can't have it all...
Edit_1: Installing it as a system app doesn't help either btw

Hello my friend, it seems you can have it all, I finally found a way to record 4K with EIS while having camera2 api enabled. I'm really happy now and overall satisfied with the phone. Only issue remaining is the front camera HDR+ which is beyond my knowledge, hopefully someone else will come with a fix.
So now, how I managed to record 4K? I'm on MIUI 10 (8.7.12), and using latest blackbox kernel by KunalKene1797. Don't know if these have any effect, but I thought it's good to know.
The third party camera I'm using is Snap Camera, there are certain settings which need to be enabled. I'll post a video with the settings I used and which worked best. 4K Video Support and Use Camera2 API being the most important ones. There could be other settings which could improve the recording, but I like to stay on these stable settings, because I'm pleased with the results so far.
Here's the video with the settings needed in Snap Cam https://youtu.be/gRj9LhYWv5Y(video is back)
Here's the first 4K video https://youtu.be/oQGc4gXnGU0
A test for auto-focus https://youtu.be/V41k21qKQpE
No EIS sample vs EIS https://youtu.be/_qNFNs2gq74 VS https://youtu.be/00J-3cAzLjg
Edit 1: I also tried setting higher bitrate than the default 42, however in windows at the details on the first video it shows 40 total bitrate and when setting to 64 it shows 42, either way it seems the quality was marginally improved. I guess the phone can't write faster than that or the storage doesn't allow it.
https://youtu.be/Q7Lqlr-QanA
Some stuttering can be seen from 0:08 to 0:11, but I think that's because the phone started thermal throttling, it's very hot outside and from all the testing, phone was quite hot too.
I really hope it works for you as well, take care.

Hi! Thanks for all the details. I am using the latest miui 10, and WITHOUT api2 turned on, I used hedge camera app, and the 4k eis was working fine, but phone was droping the frames / stuttering the recorded video, which is a bit annoying.
I tested your setup, and I can see that its better, but still sometimes I can see some dropped frames. It happen to you too?
Thanks in advance for any suggestion.

Yes, it happens to me as well, in the first 8 to 10 seconds, I think it's the cpu, it can't use EIS very well with 4K. Without EIS there are no dropped frames or stutter issues.
A suggestion would be to use a very fast micro sd card, haven't tested, but worth a try.
After about 4-5 minutes the phone gets quite warm and stutter is inevitable due to thermal throttling.

This is my modded Gcam for Mi 9T.
Basically it's @Urnyx05 mod but I was able to fix the excessive noise in photos with Zoom 2x sensor.

Works perfectly well man! Was waiting for this :highfive:
Can you suggest the best settings and libs for specifically Mi 9T?
Thanks a lot!

No, sadly... My advice is to use Gcam only for photos and MIUI camera for videos/slowmo/time lapse at least for now.
Great post! Would you say the Urnyx GCam (or this version of yours) is superior to the xtrme version? Have tried both but can't come to a definitive conclusion, really.

Would also like to know this as I'm using xtrem's version.
Just curious, how you guys mod these gcam apks. Is knowledge in coding necessary?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the only 6.2 Gcam with all 4 cameras (3+1 front) working well with Mi 9T is the one in OP.

You're correct, this is the only 6.2 GCam working on the Mi 9T. But xtrme's version, although it's based on GCam 6.1, works great too with all 4 cameras. I don't know much about photography so I can't really tell which one is better overall.
Can you reduce NR for main camera as well? Night shots with HDR+ are good, but lack detail. A little grain won't hurt the image IMO.
Grainy noise is better than colour noise

Try changing library in advanced settings. Fit v2 seems to be optimized for Mi 9 that has a very similar main sensor.

It should crash only if wide or Tele camera are active.
Do you know if there is a version with working video/settings and auxiliary cameras support?
I suspect that video profiles for aux cameras are missing/hidden, at least in Global ROM.

Good evening everyone.
I have just joined the forum having just purchased a Xiaomi Mi 9T phone (That's still awaiting delivery)
Anyways, I am just wondering if this google camera mod can be loaded straight onto the phone or does the phone need 'jailbreaking' in some way?
Thanks in advance.

Just install the apk and enjoy.
The download links are dead? It just says that the file might no longer exist, in both links

Thanks, I will try it.
Thank you, can confirm that it works for me
Correct me if I am wrong, but Poco X3 Gcam should work as well - it's the same sensor.
I want to buy this phone, does GCam support EIS in 4K video mode?

Just checked and it does, but on the main lens only. Also checked 4k 60 without luck (probably cpu limitation).

Thanks. I wonder why stock does not have it like in POCO X3. Good that at least GCam has it.

There must be a reason. If I was you I wouldn't count only on GCam. An update can disable it.
Since gauguin now has LOS 17.1 alpha and mi-globe currently the lack of a good working GCam is holding me back to seek to buy this one - and a little the imanent release of Redmi Note 10 Pro, which should have the same Snapdragon 750G and maybe Radio support.
Hi, how do you install this app on android 11? It's failing for me ( propably because integrity verification).
Can someone upload the stock xiaomi.eu camera app ?

Well, you won't be able to install it unless you are on MiUI. If you still want to download it go to APKMirror

May I ask about the GCam version and if 4k 30fps still has good EIS support?
Try this gcam mod - gave it a quick test and all basic functions seem to work
Video will record in 60fps without 4k option selected
30fps with 4k option selected - if you try 60fps the app will close and you need to clear data of app to use video again

Have you managed to use it on android 11?
There is no Fix for Mi 10T Lite to run 64 MP, it's only 16MP, so I'm wondering on what ROM did you check that it supposedly works?
How do you switch camera lenses in the linked gcam version?

If it's the apk I believe it is, go to settings -> Advanced -> Auxilary camera and enable them. Then the selector appears like on the stock app.
Brilliant, thank you!
Anyone has a clue why the tele lense could be blurry? I tried different Global/EEA rom vendor images (12.0.1, .2, .5) with different custom roms and GCAM versions. All with the same issue.
