I need help with unremovable bootloop - Galaxy Note II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So it got into bootloop randomly (didn't install anything new), here is everything ive done since:
Reflashed the rom using twrp
reset the whole thing using twrp by deleting everything
reinstalled the custom rom using twrp
reinstalled the stock rom using twrp
reinstalled twrp
reinstalled stock rom using odin
anything else i can do. The problem is that even i i get into twrp it just goes back to bootloop. Any files that you may suggest could you post them here please to save others the trouble of going to sites and finding broken links. Sometimes the phone goes on into setup but eventually goes back to bootloop within a couple of seconds.

Does the phone reboot by itself when in download mode?

NO it doesnt reboot on its own in download mode. i have fixed it recently but back to square 1 due to it having a failed to mount /efs error. Any ideas?

The flash is successful using Odin? If yes, it is possible that the internal memory chip is damaged.

How do i fix it then?
It keepes showing this error:
faile to mount /efs (operation not supported by endpoint)

So the flashes with Odin failed? Tried flashing the latest stock ROM with a pit file in Odin?

did that after you suggested but still stuck on boot loop ao i installed twrp again and tried to wipe dalvik and cache, i go the failed to mount /efs (operation not supported on transported endpoint) error. I think this is the root of the problem and if i can solve this then i can get up and running again.

Do you think it would be possible to create a clean installation on genymotion of my device (gt n7100) then take a full backup of it and try to install it on my device? (through twrp)

I have just tried doing that but unfortunately my CPU is not compatible with virtualization technologies or some BS like that, is it possible that someone could do it for me and post it or even post a full backup of Samsung note 2 (gt n7100) please?

Sounds like the internal memory chip is damaged. To confirm that it is the memory, you may have to take it to a cell repair shop and have them try to force flash it via jtag.

Would I be able to do that at home? And do you recommend me taking a virtual backup (genymotion) and installing it on my physical device?

You would need to create a JTAG cable. It works be simpler to take it to a cell shop that has the hardware to force flash the phone such as an octopusbox.
Unfortunately, I don't know about restoring a virtual backup.

Is there a way of doing that myself? and do you recommend taking a backup of a virtual device?

If you want to try it yourself, you could Google for a JTAG method for the note 2.
Taking a virtual backup may not help if it can't be restored to the phone.

[Q] Did I brick my phone after encrypting it with CM10?

By accident I encrypted my GSIII with a CM10 nightly and could not update the phone. I then was stupid and tried to install a new ROM from the external_SD because I could not mount the internal sd due to the encryption.
Now my phone is stuck on the Samsung Galaxy SIII load screen. Is there a way I can format the phone and re-install a CM10 ROM? I have ClockWorkMod Touch installed.
Thank you for any help or guidance. It would be greatly appreciated and even rewarded!
Have you tried to boot into CWM and do a factory/data reset? If that doesn't work, you might have to download the Stock rom, and use Odin to flash it.
Make sure you back up what you can, cause you might have to wipe your phone..

Thank you for responding. I tried the factory reset in CWM but it still hangs. Could I reformat the sdcard? Will that do anything in terms of allowing me to install a ROM or do I need to install a stock ROM through ODIN?
I'm new to this portion of ROMS so any guidance or links to step-to's would be awesome. I'm virtually phoneless right now because the new Galaxy SIII SIM doesn't fit into my old Galaxy S.
You'll need to Odin back to stock. And hope that works. Your steps seem to be unique. Let us know how/if you fix it for future reference.

ODIN to stock did not work. I still get stuck on the Samsung Galaxy SIII screen. However, I can still access CWM. Is there a way to reformat the sd card so that the encrypted drive is no longer there and then re-install the stock ROM?
Under mounts and storage -> you can format all partitions.

Hard way, I realized formatting SD card wont mark it as decrypted. Only a factory reset resolved my issue.

I think this has been said, but here are the steps I took to resolve this issue:
Odin back to stock
Boot into recovery
Factory reset from recovery
I originally attempted to use CWM to reflash Paranoid Android ROM. This would fail due to the fact that CWM could not mount /data and /sdcard (I believe due to it being encrypted).
After using ODIN and stock ROM, the system would still hang after putting in password to decrypt device. Booted into Samsung recovery and did a factory reset from there and it removed the decryption...

I'd like to regretfully confirm that these instructions work perfectly. I just lost EVERYTHING after a failed encryption process, but thankfully I was able to unbrick my phone after following these instructions. The lesson for everyone is to ALWAYS make a backup ON YOUR PC of your NANDROID backups.
Thank you for these instructions.

I have a b/u of all my devices on drop box, google cloud, my ext drive for my network, AND my office computer. Yeah I know a BIT of overkill, BUT I never know which device I will "play with," and where I will play with it.
Can't wipe /sdcard or /data
I tried doing a factory reset from recovery, but I can't mount /data or /sdcard. Has anyone experienced this? I encrypted my data before applying an update. Now I can boot into recovery or download mode with CM10, but I can't wipe anything to go back to stock.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!!

you need to odin back to stock as has been stated. the stock firmware thread is in the android development section.
then you need to boot into recovery and wipe data/factory reset.
get back to stock and wipe. this is the only way i've heard of this issue being resolved

Reboot loop [SOLVED]

So my sister recently bought a used phone running 4.1.2 and it started rebooting on its own for some reason or another. I am able to get into twrp 2.3.1.1 recovery and do a factory reset but the reboot loop problem still remains. I tried the other options in the wipe menu like wiping the internal storage but it says its unable to mount /data. Even in the Mount Menu i am unable to check the Mount data box.
I've also got the hurricane v4 rom downloaded but i am unable to install it for some reason. Is it because i am unable to mount the /data? Would a Format data work to install the hurricane rom? I've tried to download the 4.3 stock rom but not successful due to such a crappy internet connection. Luckily the hurricane v4 rom that i got from here supported the resume download function.

I also have note 2 with this strange reboot problem.
The OS doesn't matter at all for me (check that also).
If the problem will still remain, then I must say that it's a hardware malfunction.
Mine has it too, and does some random reboots at any time, specially when it has been used for longer time.

Go to mounts and storage and click on format/system, format/cache, format/preload , format/data and format/data and data/media (/sdcard)<--- this will format your internal storage,so back up if you have anything saved on it..NOTE: Do NOT format storage/sdcard1 cause this is your external sd card if you accidentally do format it you will lose all the contents on your sd card.If you still want to format your external sd card by this way make sure you have a card reader handy to be able to transfer the downloaded ROM and other contents on your sd card.
Now go back to main menu and click on advanced menu and wipe dalvik cache ,once again go back to main menu and click on wipe cache partition and go ahead and wipe it.At the very end go back to main menu and click on wipe data/factory reset and choose Clean to install a New ROM.Done.You have successfully performed all the wipes. Now you can go ahead and flash the ROM.

None of the modems worked. I've deleted the /system and /data and all the steps you gave me and restored back to 4.1.2 with twrp and the darnedest thing happened. no reboot loop, only thing is that there still is no service. The GCI screen shows up when booting (my cell phone service) . i was pretty sure the efs was checked when i backed it up a few days ago. I think i dun goofed on this one.
EDIT: Looking at the 4.1.2 backed up rom on my computer, there is a efs.ext4.win.md5 and a efs.ext4.win file on there.

So i finally got a premium link download on rapidgator and am downloading this stock rom atm. so its resumable (hooray!).
When done, i use the "PHONE" option in odin right? Im guessing installing the stock rom also re installs the stock recovery? Crossing my fingers (and toes lol) hoping this download finishes. If her phone doesnt work after all this i talked her into letting me buy it. It seems like a really nice phone. If she lets me buy it im thinking to get the Moga controller afterwards and installing some emulators and games, it'll be a nice little portable system.
SOLVED

Yes, here is the link for a TWRP (custom recovery) flashable. Please note this is not the very latest TWRP. The latest version's link is failing to download as of this post. You can put that .tar file on ODIN's PDA section and flash away. Once inside, select Wipe, then Advanced Format and proceed to wipe clean the device as in selecting /data, /cache, /system, Dalvik Cache and Internal Memory (internal SD). Why the internal SD? Because sometimes the device requires a full factory reset in order to begin working again (or just select Format Data option and write yes). From there try to reset to Download Mode and try flashing your device model's latest ODIN image by putting it on the PDA section. (for example, model T999 latest is named "T999UVUENC2_T999TMBENC2_T999UVUENC2_HOME.tar.md5")
Thank you so much!

That's a very personal decision. For example, I prefer phones with removable batteries, so both Samsung and LG fit the bill but both are slow with official updates. In the end, all manufacturers have their ups and downs. It's all up to you. I'm also thinking on the Nexus 5 but only because it's easy to open up and replace the battery (watching the ifixit teardown page).
here's a whole thread on opinions. might be useful.

i317 // TWRP unable to mount ANY partition, can't install rom

I woke up the other day with my phone stuck at the Galaxy Note II bootup screen.
Great!
So I've been trying for days to solve this issue that's driving me insane.
I'm running TWRP 2.8.0.0
It starts and can't mount any of the partitions. Attempting to mount internal storage or SD card is impossible, it says it has 0 bytes.
Obviously something corrupted something. But now I can't get anything working.
I can't format from withing TWRP, it fails.
Tried using KIES emergency firmware update, but its supposed to show a list of devices that need emergency update, it never shows up.
I was able to flash a stock rom with Odin. Except for that it doesn't repartition the device's internal storage and it never is able to boot into the new ROM. If I check TWRP after installing with Odin, it shows that all the devices are still unmountable.
So I flashed the new TWRP 2.8.6.0 with Odin. Except when I boot back into Odin it shows 2.8.0.0 still.
Anyone have any ideas? I've been phoneless for a week now!

Have you tried flashing a pit file along with the stock firmware in Odin? That's what I would do in your case. It'll repartition the phone and flash the firmware. Fresh as the day you bought it.

On your advice I just flashed i317.pit with Stock ROM. Succeeded in flashing in ODIN as well as looking like it rewrote the partitions. However, upon reboot to TWRP, all partitions are still unmountable. Tried flashing pit along with TWRP 2.8.6.0. It remained on 2.8.0.0 when I rebooted into TWRP. Again experienced the same issue and could not mount any partitions. Tried flashing PIT alone and then booting into TWRP. Same.
I've attached a picture too. This inability to mount also prevents me from formatting, factory resetting, loading from external microsd, so on and so forth...

Man I really thought the pit would work! Just 2 days ago I had the unable to mount data error and flashing stock with the pit file worked for me
A few questions-
1. I wonder if that old old old issue of eMMc brick bug is present in your device. The symptoms are very similar from what I remember of it but I do highly doubt that's what's happening.
2. Do you have more info about your device prior to this breakdown? Ie what rom + kernel were you on? were there any hints of anything failing? did you flash anything and if so what was it?
I'm hoping the information might help point us in the right direction. I'll look into something a well, but I'm also hoping that someone else with more experience with this problem will come help. @sawdoctor didn't this happen to your note 2 once also? When mine refused to mount data the other day it wasn't quite as bad as this, so it was an easy fix. Hopefully we can get you sorted.

I had a similar issue when porting a s3lte 4.4.4 base to the n2 I couldn't mount data even odin didn't fix it but I was able to format internal with recovery. A full wipe of everything fixed it. I'd try mskips toolkit, it has an emergency firmware rescue package that you can flash see if it helps. It maybe your internal sd has actually died which I've heard off before

Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 7.0 (T210) - Can't factory reset ("make_extf4fs failed")

Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 7.0 (T210) - Can't factory reset ("make_extf4fs failed")
Hi all,
I have a Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 7.0 (SM-T210), last week I updated it to Android 4.4.2 Kitkat using Kies.
But now, the tablet loads, starts downloading updates from Google Play, and after one or two minutes it reboots. All modifications I do are lost, even if I turn off Wifi, after reboot it's on again.
I tried to factory reset the device, but it throws a series of errors:
"E:format_volume: make_extf4fs failed on /dev/block/..."
Does anyone know how can I fix this?

Not sure if this would be along the same problem as yours but something similar once hsppened to me, not google update reboot but not being able to wipe device through twrp. I found that by going to the mount options first and mounting system etc and then go doing the wipe fixed this. You could also try to repair or change file system if that doesnt work or using the format option as well but be sure to backup anything you dont want to lose. All else fails always could reflash stock firmware via odin and choose nand erase all option.

Sorry. I'm somewhat new to some of the terms you used.
1. twrp. Is this an application?
2. mount options. Which mount options?
3. Repair/change file system. Where? How?
I don care about backup, the device is empty. In fact, my intention is exactly wipe it from any previous content, so it can work with 4.4.2.
I tried reflashing it with odin and heimdall, no success.

Sorry i assumed you were rooted and had custom recovery without asking. Twrp is a custom recovery you can use when you root a device. If you are not rooted I would download official firmware for your specific device, one option would be sammobile.com and would be good idea to do this over night as generally it takes awhile to download unless you pay for premium. Then unzip file and use odins ap slot for the file inside. U can choose nand erase all if wanted which should wipe before flashing. Im not sure how many official firmwares are available for yours specifically but may not hurt to have a couple or all handy in case one dont work. When you say no success you mean it just does the same thing as it did with kies or it doesnt flash it completely using odin?

My tablet was never rooted. I had problems with it, while it had Android 4.1.2. Did a factory reset and it got better, still I couldn't use FOTA update [after downloading the update and restarting, the device was counting to 25% then saying that there was some problem with the update]. So I used Kies and the update finally worked. But after that, the reset-loop started, and since that, nothing that I tried to do to solve the problem worked.
When I tried using odin, it started the flashing process, but it immediatelly fails.
