Hi, does anyone know if the pixel 2 camera apk its working in the beta?
yup
The stock camera app on P Beta doesn't have Portrait mode, however NX Camera is working just fine with Portrait mode enabled
I'm investigating the Pixel XL - but for my mom - not me. (I have a Pixel 3a that is my daily driver; currently running RC2 of Q quite happily.) The reason why has to do with the quality of pictures the 3a is kicking out - despite that it lacks the hardware of previous pictures (especially the Pixel 3). I didn't have the camera in mind when I asked for a 3a as a birthday present; therefore, the PQ has both of us rather shocked. Now Mom wants a new (er) phone, and the XL version of the original Pixel is on the radar (for price reasons). How good is the camera of Google's Pixel XL?

You can try this one: https://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/google-camera-mods/gcam-google-pixel-1-2-3-t3875663
All Google phones have almost the same camera quality. Pixel 3 are the best (of course), but only for trained eyes.

Hello, first of all I would like to apologize for my English. I created this thread to know if it would be possible to bring the new features of the google pixel xl 2 cameras to our google pixel because according to google everything was done through software, would there be any way to bring it to our phone?
What features exactly? The DoF/Bokeh is not only software, it has to do with the dual pixel tech Pixel 2 has, it's hardware, even it's somehow implemented on Pixel 2016s it'll never be as good.
Don't know of any other strikingly different feature other than that.

There's an app somewhere on here that has the pixel 2 camera APK. If you're on the 8.1 DP 1, you have to clone the APK and install it to run alongside the stock camera, because it was originally made for 8.0.
Currently I have Xiaomi Mi 8. But recently there are some interesting offers for second hand Google Pixel 2 XL for about 390.5 USD. Quite confusing because Xiaomi Mi 8 has newer chipset (SD 845), better display (Samsung AMOLED vs LG p-OLED), and larger RAM (6 GB vs 4 GB). But in the other hand Google Pixel 2 XL has much stronger camera, stock Android, it's like a dream device. I'm just a casual user (messenger, social media, browsing, Spotify, taking some photos for Instagram feed) What's your opinion? Should I keep my Xiaomi Mi 8 or goes to second hand Pixel 2 XL?
Its all about personal preference, I had an S8+, then moved to a One Plus 6 and finally settled on a Pixel 2 XL all within a 6 month period
I'd heard so much about the camera that I wanted to try it and I can happily say I am not disappointed at all
Just download a custom Gcam for your phone and keep it. There's plenty for Mi8.
The difference in camera between Chinese phone with Gcam or Pixel is too small to be worth it.
Just look at my photo comparison to make up your mind. It's a cheaper Xiaomi, so your result works be even better.

Haha maybe we have same story. I used Mi5s then my friends bought it, so I bought Mi 8, then I try Mi A2, then I came back to Mi 8. Then these Pixel 2 XL offers come. Indeed it's up to personal preference. I also put concern on second hand device, especially for OLED display and its battery. I already try to search for Pixel 2 XL spare part and it's quite hard to find, in other hand Mi 8 spare part is easy to find, despite quite pricey

Already tried GCam on Mi8 and Mi A2. Yes, it's totally improve photo quality
I would say to buy it at a good price and use it. If you don't like the 2 XL simply resell it.

I have also used many phones recently ( S8, S9, P20 pro, P20, Honor 10, Pixel 1, Pixel 2 etc)
I always had HTC U11 with me as second device and now using Pixel 2 XL as primary device, I have made comparison of photos between them after installing Googel camera 3 ports and result are identical ..some photos in dark lights are even better on HTC U11 because it bring more lights ..Now U11 is underrated and I got almost mint U11 with all accessories for £190 while got mint condition used pixel without accessories for £247
What I like about pixel 2 Xl as compare to U11 is just stock software and quick updates but I have noticed many issues with Pixel 2XL i.e it get heated during intensive tasks i.e when you turn on hotspot while use the phone , it charge very slow with others fast chargers so if you don't have orginal fast charger then it will take ages to fully charge the battery while my U11 was able to charge phone quickly no matter what others spare fast charger I have used ..memory is also issue limited to 64GB, sound from earpiece during voice/internet calling is poor …Pixel 2 xl has bigger battery but screen on time is same or less than U11....Pixel 2XL give 6-6.30 hour screen on time on 4g while U11 was giving 7.00 to 7.30 hours on 4G..I have got few spare type C headphones of U11 but they don't work on pixel 2 xl
Pixel 2 XL Is great device but its far from perfect but people will keep it for stock experience and camera hype and by the way I was using Mi 8 Gcam port for U11 and developer B-S-G own Mi 8 so you get plenty of camera port from him for this device
Hello,
I have been using different pixel phones ( Pixel 2, 3, 4) before moving to hauwei phones and now i have sold my huawei and thinking to get back on Pixel but Pixel phone did not change much from last 3 genertaion. I did not like the screen on any Pixel to be honest i.e they all had low brightness and was not as good as samsung/Huawei .Camera, sound, software, battery of Pixel 2 XL is as good as pixel 4/4 XL so i dont see any reason why i should spend more on 3 and 4 when i am getting same experience on cheaper Pixel 2/3a/4a ? Would new pixel 5 or 5S would be any different ? Yes Google software processing is great but why they are not brining latest camera hardware ..apple was behind google in camera department but now they are going head to head if not better . I like onplus software and others specs but camera is not best which is important for me so whats ur opinions ?
Hi all,
Really enjoying using the Pixel XL.
Was wondering if the Original Quality Google Photos is working on non stock roms such as Lineage OS?
Was hoping to jump onto Android 11 but still getting the awesome Google Photos upload feature?
Thanks!

I recently picked up a pre-owned OG Pixel (did had OG Pixel XL - Google Ed. before, sold it) and managed to root it ("PVT" build) after unlocking bootloader (whew) and got LOS 17.1 installed (Android 10) - not running Magisk (yet ... might not need to) According to Play Store, device status is not certified but still - Google Photos recognized mine as Pixel 3 now. "You're backing up in Original quality, which is free & unlimited for Pixel 3 until Feb 1, 2022"
I have another one, Xiaomi Mi A2 Lite running a custom rom, device status is certified and Google Photos "Backing up in Storage saver from Pixel is free and unlimited"
Same with me.
Pixel XL (original owner), and under photos/manage storage it states, "you're backing up in original quality, which is free& unlimited for pixel 3 until Feb 1 2022".
Device runs LOS with magisk.
I assume this is new since 6/1, but don't know for sure.
These are the Pixel 7 features coming to older Pixel phones
A new update, set to arrive sometime in December, will bring features found on the new Pixel 7 series to older Pixel handsets.

These are the Pixel 7 features coming to older Pixel phonesGoogle recently announced its new Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro, along with new software features. While a majority of these typically stay exclusive to new devices, some eventually trickle down to older handsets. Thankfully, Google will be bringing some of the more interesting Pixel 7 series enhancements to older Pixel devices in the near future.

According to Phone Arena, Google will be bringing several features from its latest Pixel handsets to older devices. Unfortunately, by older devices, it means handsets with its first-generation Tensor processor like the Pixel 6, Pixel 6 Pro, and Pixel 6a. As for the features that will be arriving, there is Clear Calling, Guided Frame, and Real Tone. Clear Calling should be extremely beneficial, improving the call quality by minimizing background noises, while Guided Frame will improve on the current accessibility options, allowing those with poor eyesight to shoot better selfies. There will be vocally guided instructions so users can position and pose in real-time, along with a countdown timer so that pictures can be taken at just the right time.
Furthermore, Real Tone will also be getting improved, offering more realistic skin tone colors in photos, and spatial audio will be introduced to the Pixel Buds Pro but will be exclusive to the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro. Coming to all older and supported models of Pixel devices will be the new “At a Glance” widget, giving users more important information than ever before. The Audio Message Transcription feature will also be available to all older and supported Pixel handsets, transcribing phone audio on the fly. Sadly, those that had hoped for Face Unlock on the Pixel 6 series will be disappointed, as it looks like it will not be in the cards for the upcoming feature update.
The new feature will arrive sometime in December, but if you want to gain early access, you can sign up for the Android 13 beta. But be warned, since it is beta software, there is always a chance that something could go wrong, and it is not recommended for people who are using their phones as daily devices. If interested, you can always find great deals on Pixel 6 devices, especially with the recent announcement of the Pixel 7 series.

Sure.
cool, but imma be sticking with fp sensor cause it works well enough for me
The only one of those features that is actually a feature may be the "clear calling" one, which would likely be implemented at a HAL level rather than gapps level, since real time audio processing is a job for hardware, not software.
The other two are pure gapps nonsense.
