LCD Viewing Angle - MTCD Android Head Units General

I recently purchased the 9" unit from AVIN and the LCD panel is completely washed out. The image is great if I view it from my armrest so I'm wondering:
avinusa.com/bmw-3-series-e46-m3-9-oreo-8-0-4gb-ram-32gb-navigation-system.html
1. Is this normal? It's like the panel was installed upside-down.
2. Can I purchase a compatible LCD module with a better viewing angle?

Mine is similar. I think yours as well as mine is not IPS screen. I'm very close to just get another one with IPS and hopefully better bluetooth as mine (725) is a steaming pile of S.... Just make sure if you decide to order something that it's specified as IPS. If for some reason this is not specified then you shouldn't buy it.

One X VS Galaxy Nexus Screen Comparison

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f8PGWHjvz3w
Hi all.
Just a quick video comparing the two for anyone trying to decide between the two. Or go from the GNex to the One X. Sorry for the shameful self promotion but there is no point making videos if nobody us going to watch them
While both are 720p, there shouldn't be any contest between the Super LCD 2 and PenTile AMOLED.
Sent from my HTC One X using xda premium
i owned a gnex while my daily was a gs2. after one day of use i was certain the gs2 had a more superior screen in all respects except for the resolution. e.g. under very brightness colors were inconsistent or dimmer on the gnex. viewing angles weren't that great neither.
so when i got a hold of my current HOX, it blew the gs2 out of the water. i was mesmerized by the magic of the one x's display. it sticks to the surface and even feels like it pops out. viewing angles make the screen look unreal like a picture painted on the glass. it defies belief that it isn't a dummy model handset with a still picture.
i don't know what's responsible for that and it might actually be how HTC has the curved stretched edges by the bezel. all i know is that i believe it's the first device of this display standard. images and wallpapers just hypnotise you... the widgets and icons look so fine.
some said 'this is a bit like what's available on apples retina display'. it is only true to certain degrees only. for example, if you look at the retina display, you can still see a fine black line or border separating the wallpaper from the bezel of the phone producing an effect that there is still a layer of glass above the actual image/wallpaper. this effect is practically non existent on the HOX. besides, the retina display simply doesn't compare even to that of the s2 on one ground alone and that is the size of the screen. it is just too small. 5" plus is too big... 4" less is too small. just my opinion.
i was wowed by the gnex beside my gs2 at first purely on the high res and sharpness in detail. but the color reproduction and the viewing angles just put me off.
gosh, i still have the hots for the galaxy nexus and wouldn't regret doing a trade for my HOX.

Clarification of Backlight bleed issues...Also which tablet to keep?

Many people out here are talking about issues with screen bleed on this tablet
I think that the issue here is there are 2 different screen issues with this tablet that people are referring to collectively as light bleed:
1)Screen bleed
2)Edge lighting visibility
Screen bleed as I define it is something visible usually on a dark background where white light leaks out on certain areas of the screen. Almost all LCD have some degree of this and some are better than others. Often increasing the display brightness on the drak screen magnifies it. And fleing the chassis of the tablet often will shift where it bleeds.
This tablet does have some issues with this, more so than my Nexus 7 ( I lost leaving it on a plane) did.
Edge lighting issue many have posted pictures on here an youtube calling it screen bleed is something different. It seems to consistently be the bottom of the tablet in portrait mode. It is most visible on a white not black background and at lowest intensity (non auto brightness of less than 20% and it is noticeable). IT is always 7 bright/dark areas in sequence. While I am no expert in LCD technology, LCD compared to Amoled have a backlight. If the backlight is lit at the edge, it is quite likely that as one lowers the screen brightness the edge lighting at its origin might be slightly brighter than the surrounding area giving off this effect. Above a certain brightness the edge lighting is overwhelmed by the brightness of the panel and is no longer visible
For those that don't understand here is a video someone posted on youtube that demonstrates on his GPAd what the edge light issue is:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SmiSEC3rbHI
Now I replaced my first tablet (white one) because it had this and significant light bleed.
Picked up a black one and the light bleed is negligable. below 50% brightness it is not there and truthfully light bleed is an issue more when viewing in darkness where there is little ambient light and corners of the screen wash out with light. The fact I have none is great!!!
But........I have the same issue of the 7 areas of brighter whites at the bottom edge of the screen when brightness is below 20-25% (non automatic). They are mostly noticeable against a white background and more so when in full screen mode or white button bar is selected, or if using in landscape mode where it will then show on the right side of screen.
I am torn as to whether I should return or not. Seeing the many who have same issue and it now being there on 2 tablets from different stores and different colors (hence different manufacture runs) I suspect that this is more or less present in all G Pad 8.3 tablets. Some of us are just more likely to see it as one needs specific situations for it to be visible.
I loved my nexus 7HD before i lost it. Though I had some issues with it:
While 32gb, no expandable storage
touchscreen was not the best
Was feeling kind of small given I have a note 3 as my phone.
As such I decided to get a replacement. My final candidates were:
Ipad Mini retina display- Great Screen and app ecosystem (wife has ipad so lots of apps purchasesd as well...) But, 100$ more no expandable storage and stuck in the walled garden. Plus already have large selection of bought apps, and books/magazines in google play.
Amazon HDX8.9- I think this is the best hardware out for the money. Still light, large vibrant very bright hi res screen with insane battery life. If there was a way to get stock android on this I would jump on it. But Amazon store is limited and side loading while fine for the odd app is not how i want to fill my tablet. I can't customize it as far as looks go and while some google apps can be side loaded they don't al work or work well and there are a lot of FC. Also being in Canada, Amazon prime doesn't really benefit me as the video and music services are not available there. IT is a shame as I think I am still tempted to buy this tablet just based on the great intermediate size with best hardware
Gpad I thought this would be the perfect replacement for my Nexus 7HD. Based on reviews the added screen size without much weight and loss of pocketability. A still vibrant high PPI though dimmer screen (don't really use out doors much and seemd fine sitting in my car today leaving bestbuy). While not on latest kitkat there are good roms out there and likely can eventually swap out software fro GPE should I want. Meanwhile the LG skin adds some cool functions like Q slide apps, knock on qpair.....Seems like it is the right size, right resolution, expandable storage Better speakers than Apple... If I didn't have the edge lighting issue this tablet would be near perfect. I don't mind slightly less battery life as I will be able to charge it at night and seems most are getting 6+ screen tme and 1-2 days stdby.
Windows 8.1 Tablet (Lenovo or Dell Venue Pro Intriguing and right size at 8 inches though decidedly lower esolution and would have to forego my library of google play apps ....though having windows and full office could have some value though there is no current way to get a wired connection to a monitor or TV.
So.....in spite of the EDGE light screen issue, what should I do?
What are those of you who have noticed same thing doing or have done?
Hmmm now I am not sure what to do.
First one I bought was a white one. It had traditional light bleed in 2 corners and had this bottom edgelight issue at low brightness.
Returned it for a black one. This one is better in that it has no light bleed except the bottom edgelight issue. This occurs at brightness below 20-25. IT is not an issue during day time as I am needing brightness above 40 to comfortably enjoy the screen.
But for night time use I have to kepe the tablet a bit brighter than I prefer so as not to see it under some circumstances, I.e. landscape viewing.
I am trying to decide if it is worth returning as I love everything else about it. I am on vacation in the US and do not have the time to keep going back and forth to various best buy locations hoping for a better unit. Especially since seems the black model is in limited supply with nearest store 30 minutes away. However also given the exchange rate on my credit card, Returning it will likely cost me 20$ based on how the Credit card companies charge....
Have you tried using a screen filter off of Google play store. I used one on my galaxy 7.7 for night time use.
I would see if a third time is the charm. Return the unit and ask if you can turn on an inspect the next unit before leaving. See if you can find one that is acceptable before walking out the door. To me, the G Pad is best unit out there in the 8" space. Fire HDX8.9 is nice, but as you mentioned, it doesn't support the Play Store and requires everything to be side loaded. Additionally can't really customize the UI at this time. Hardware is killer, but until you can drop standard Android UI on top, G Pad is better option. In regards to Ipad Mini, it's nice, but absurd at that price. If you were to go for iOS, better off with the Air as it can be had for about $60/70 more. To me the Windows Tablet is not really an option. Depends on what you plan to do with it. I've read mixed reviews with the Windows Tablets. Good for some productivity apps and browsing but not so great at gaming. Still do quite a bit of games, so for me not an option.
Again, recommend giving it one more try and exchanging the unit and see how it goes.

Thanks for the advice. ...
Went to a third best buy location tried 4 different gpad as salesman let me test them.
All had same issue. I will keep it anyway. Switched for the white again though. Prefer the feel of the back and no finger prints

PX5 Headunit Display issues and concerns (Brightness/Burn-in)

I have a MTCD PX5 unit I bought about 3 months ago - seems to be a KLD unit based on research around its MCU. I have some concerns around the quality of the the LCD used and some issues with it. I don't have any other Android HU to compare it to so I thought I would open up a thread and get some feedback based on what others experience with their units to determine if this is normal.
My concerns:
- The screen is not bright enough. Does anyone else experience this? During a sunny day, the LCD is very reflective and not very bright (even though I have brightness set to max), making it difficult to see. In the late afternoon when the sun isn't so strong, its much better and easier to see.
- I experience burn-in from elements on the page that don't move. This becomes apparent when I change over to another screen (especially when its a plain screen with not much on it like a blank web page). I can see elements such as logo or music controls still displayed as if the pixels haven't updated yet. It goes away within a minute or so but wondering if this is normal as these LCDs are probably low quality. You can see it on the 3rd image, I use car launcher AG and after a while when I changed to a plain screen you can still see the VW logo and other buttons from the launcher still visible.
I just want to check if these issues are normal or if my unit has a bad screen and I need to replace via warranty. I've attached some examples.
Screen on my unit is an 8 inch LCD with resolution of 1024x600
Concerning the brightness I would say this is quite normal. All units I have seen yet seem to have around the same brightness level as visible on your pictures. I did apply a protective film on my unit with matte finish which reduced reflections and therefore improved the situation a bit. However still the screen can't keep up within direct sunlight. I actually thought about modifying my unit and checking if it's possible to boost the backlight. But certainly this requires hardware modification and might have negative impact on contrast and colors (which isn't that important while driving or using navigation).
Also there are 2 brightness levels if your unit is connected to the car correctly. One level is set when headlights are off and one for headlights on. The headlights-on setting can be configured individually in settings and is typically lower brightness for nighttime driving. Still I agree the highest brightness is too low and the lowest brightness is to bright. Fortunately the KLD units typically have a "screen off" button in the notification bar. So it's possible to turn the screen completely off. Very handy during night drives.
Regarding the burn-in effect: I didn't notice this yet on my KLD unit but it might heavily depend on the screen type. They might even buy screens from multiple manufacturers just to get the cheapest offer. So yes, you might have got a bad quality LCD screen even though it's not defective. I will try to keep an eye on my one if I notice the same.
I've got an ATCGFEHNY unit which I think is just an XTRONS for my W211 mercedes. Having same kind of LCD Burn In issues. If anyone knows of good replacement touch LCDs please let me know and I'll rip this thing apart and swap it out.

Any issues with burn-in or screen uniformity?

My only concerns regarding the Realme X2 are (I've never owned a Super AMOLED phone before):
1) I'm really worried about burn-in, and the uneven pixel-wear, which will may lead to a "blotchy" and non-uniform screen in a few months.
2) Modern Super AMOLED screens use the diamond PenTile matrix, two pixels per sub-pixel, each with a green and (a red OR or a blue). For a 1080p panel, this gives a lower "effective resolution" than a 1080p LCD IPS display, it's (very roughly) 840p according to my crude maths of: ((720 R + 1080 G + 720 B) / (1080 R + 1080 G + 1080 B) * 1080). I'm worried this going to be noticeably worse (more grainy / less sharp / more pixelated) than a 1080p IPS LCD phone. Is the difference actually perceivable?
Having said that, I've noticed that on larger IPS LCD phones (6.29 inches and above), the flaws of IPS LCD become more obvious to me, such as noticeable changes in brightness (backlight intensity) between the top and bottom of the phone (even when looking at it head-on), and shadowing / backlight bleeding, and even ghosting/blurring of text when scrolling has become more noticeable.
So, are either of my points 1) and 2) actually things to be worried about on the Realme X2, or is Super AMOLED really better than LCD overall (i.e. In terms of image quality, for reading text and seeing details in photos)?
Perhaps the Realme 5 Pro (albeit with a weaker chipset) is a better choice for someone like me who's worried about the issues above?
Coming from an iPhone 8+, I can honestly say this Realme X2 is the most beautiful mobile screen I've ever watched / looked at / used. Deep blacks, bright whites, no backlight bleed, and quite energy efficient, especially when using dark theme. You choose if you want vibrant or sRGB color in settings, both look good.
Videos look amazing, regardless of whether it's a commercial (streaming / downloaded) product, or something you shot yourself on the ultra stabilized, almost gimbal like rear camera (you didn't ask, but this is an amazing camera for a phone). The screen also looks great monitoring a DJI Osmo Pocket gimbal, and monitoring flight of camera drones. I can't speak of the burn in issues, since I've only had it for a month, but I'm coming at this from the point of view that I can buy 3 or 4 of these phones for the price of a single iPhone plus model, so I simply don't care that much. If it provides me with a solid mobile platform for 1 - 2 years, I'm beyond ecstatic. and if not, oh well, interesting experiment.
In the end though, you've gotta do what is right for YOU. Nobody else can make that choice for you. I see no reason to worry about the screen, but you certainly might.

Thank you very much for your opinion, that's good to hear, I'm glad you're enjoying it

Question Display Resolution

Am I the only one that finds the display resolution of both displays quite soft? It's kind of hurts my eyes because text looks quite fuzzy with chromatic aberration around it. Maybe I'm used to QuadHD on my S22u but I just find it quite difficult to look at text etc on the zf4. Maybe I need new glasses but I've never had this problem with QHD phones.
Because of plastic screen protector maybe?

Chromatic aberration would only come from whatever is on top of the screen (the screen protector and its adhesive layer).
If you're unhappy with anti-aliasing, that is down to pixel geometry and there is nothing to be done. But given that the pixel density is reasonably high, I wouldn't expect this (most desktop monitors are between 72-120DPI which is far lower than these screens).
