I unlocked the bootloader and then installed the twrp recovery... ( Normal recovery not treble)
When I booted in recovery. It asked for password {( I tried to enter my default password but it didn't worked)}
I even tried to reboot my phone but it got stuck on boot logo...
FIX---- 1) Skip the password step
2) Then wipe data.
3) Reboot to recovery and u r good to go.
Now u can install/wipe/ mount storage.....etc..
And installed ur custom ROM.
I've installed dot is 2.2 on redMI note 5 it's just awesome.?

The only problem for which i am concerned is the bootloop as i have watched many you tube videos but when i go in comment section there are lot of problems faced by people. Please give link to the tutorial you used to flash TWRP and rooted phone without problem.
Please
you can install "lazyflasher" after doing the root to start normally. I had the same problem and with this it was solved. I installed everything from the SD and my device is a Redmi 5 plus.

How is "lazyflasher", you can explain
the only solution is install another recovery such as redwolf for sure
Use red wolf recovery, it also supports incremental OTA update. Also built in magisk or supersu root. No need of lazy flasher.

There any way to install the twrp without losing everything?

Don´t confuse Wipe data with Format data.
Wiping data you will delete all the data from the apps. all the settings such as wifi, hotspot, brightness, location, language, keyboard preferences, etc and all the apps that you (the user) installed after to reboot to system.
Formatting data you will lost also all the folders and all the files in your internal memory such as music, pictures, etc., some of those folder needed for android to work will be created again while device is rebooting but your personal files will gone
You don´t need to lost everything just to install TWRP. Are you going to unlock bootloader or already did it?

I am not responsible if you damage your device in any way you are the one that has decided to modify your device.
Here is a prerooted boot and system twrp backup all you will need to do is install supersu from the playstore.
Install instructions:
1. Backup something in twrp so the folder structure is generated
2. Then unzip file to /storage/emulated/0/TWRP/BACKUPS/NBQGLDXXXXXXX (This may change depending on the phone idk)/
3. Now go back to twrp and click restore and select the backup
Troubleshooting:
If you never set a encryption password (It asks you during the startup wizard), then you just click enter and skip it.

In my case, I just need to restore "boot" only and now it is working, too.
Thank you so much !!!
Please help with step by step procedures. Thank you
Following step is my case,
1. Wipe device
2. Restore hole ROM that deadman96385 provided
3. Restart system until you can see the android home page
4. Reboot to recovery, root and wipe cache then reboot device
5. Check the SuperSU is working or not. If yes, go next step
6. Reboot to recovery, restore the boot and system (without system image) then install xposed v80 and wipe cache
7. Reboot device and enjoy it ← I was stock on boot screen in this step, so I get into the recovery and restore the "boot" only.

Hi Guys,
I installed TWRP in my Mi Max (32GB) (locked BL) yesterday by replacing stock recovery.img with twrp image and flashing that miui8 dev build through MiFlash in EDL mode. After that my total space was showing nearly 8GB.
To mention, I followed all steps properly like clearing dalvik and cache as well as formatting system, data, internal mem but the same happened.
Again I completely removed mods and installed stock, 24GB space was regained. But now when this time also I installed Resurrection Remix CM13 in the same way as no other way worked for locked BL and unlocking bug has really frustrated me, same thing happened.
Somebody please take up this issue and help me. I wonder how people who installed CM13 RR on locked BL are not facing this issue..
hi karanhv post ur question in q&a forum that way more people will be able to respond to u . anyways from what i gathered ur trying to install global developer build over the global stable that came with ur phone so that u could unlock ur device so that u could flash custom rom like cm or rr . good news is that u can do that without unlocking ur bootloader just follow this guide here from step 1-17 : http://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-max/how-to/guide-install-global-miui8-root-t3435594 . just substitute the rom with cm or rr(personally tested by me on global dev rom.)
but things get a bit tricky if u want to stay on stock miui but want to have a custom recovery and root.skip steps 12,13,14,15. and go thru steps 16 & 17.now u will have stock miui with twrp recovery . now if u want to update the stock miui.go to updater app> click the 3 dot button on upper rt side> click on "download update" > the update will downloaded to "downloaded_rom" folder in ur internal storage.now boot to twrp recovery by switching of phone & switching it on again this time holding the vol+ button while it boots up.now after u boot into twrp recovery ,install the zip file that has been downloaded in the "downloaded rom" folder, immidiately after the install, flash supersu zip.now dont reboot yet, using TWRP's file manager navigate to system folder and delete file named "recovery from boot" and then reboot into system thus u will be updated on stock miui while still retaining root and twrp recovery. hope this clears up for u .if u follow all these steps u wont be faced with any memory loss
easy solution

I had the same problem with 64gb version.
In twrp go to wipe
Click option to delete data partition
It will tell you all data will be deleted and encryption disabled.
After data partition gets deleted twrp will report proper internal space, and ROM will also report proper internal space.
Be sure to backup everything before.
Anybody who can help me how to install twrp and root open beta 9? I tried to flash modified twrp but not able to find superuser zip tough I have placed it in internal storage?

wiping internal storage only may remove the decrypt pass , but if not you will have to wipe both data and internal storage (preferably wipe data to f2fs) ...that will decrypt the phone , at this point your phone is encrypted and TWRP wont be able to backup data...
you can try and do the following, flash the root descried above from OTG (insert the otg then on TWRP when TWRP asks for pass swipe to cancel , it will enter, mount OTG, then go back and see if TWRP can read it, if not wipe it in twrp then unmount it, place the files on it again and insert it and mount again, if that works flash the root from OTG , you can flash either the one descried above or SuperSU .28 , both will work... then if it flashes , return to system(it may reboot twice if you installed superSU, and back up you apps from Titanium, then go back to TWRP and wipe data and internal then flash root again..., the only way TWRP will read both data and internal storage is if the phone is decrypted and as far as i know it can only be done by wiping both on TWRP .28 . )
Hello all!
I am currently on OOS 3.2.8, and official TWRP. I have read all the instructions on the forums but all lead to one option, formatting internal memory. So, my question are:
1. Will flashing oos 4.0 work with official TWRP or 8 have to use modified 28 version?
2. How can I flash oos 4 with modified TWRP and not have to wipe internal memory?
I would appreciate all the responses. Thanks
I was the same predicament as you. I finally took the plunge and now I have Nougat running on my OP3. Here is what I did :
Start: OOS 3.2.8 w/ custom kernel and modified TWRP
1. Flash stock recovery (Google for a forum post in the OP3 forums on downloading the stock recovery and flash it through fastboot)
2. Reboot and let 3.2.8 start
3. Download Snap VPN and change the country to Canada. You will be prompted for the system update.
4. Let the update download (~1 GB)
5. Install the update. You may see an error of the installation may fail as your phone is rooted. Ignore and go ahead.
6. The installer will now boot to stock recovery and reboot with Nougat. All settings and apps will be maintained
The only catch is that you may have ext4 instead of f2fs. I am okay with it for now... But your mileage may vary
All the best!
Edit : Nougat running on my op3.

Are you rooted? Are you encrypted? What file systems are you using for your partitions? You're not giving full information. Why is formatting not an option if it'll give you the results you want?
To get to F2fs (I do recommend it)
Take a backup of your Data partition. , copy it to your pc with "adb pull /sdcard/Twrp/whatever".
Now go to Twrp>Wipe>Advanced select data and click on change file system. Change it to F2fs. Now restore your backup (Reader the guide all info is there). Profit!

I don't have any issues with ext4, infact i do feel ext4 is more stable than f2fs so file system is my last concern. Thanks for your method, but then how did u root again? Installing nougat is fine but what after that? I have read that you can't use modified twrp without formatting internal memory first, as it'll show you the pin issue. Let me know how do you propose a safe method to achieve root.

Yes i am encrypted, rooted, stock OOS 3.2.8 + Franco kernel. Official TWRP(not modified). I am using ext4, never used f2fs at all. The time to backup data and then to restore it all back is the reason formatting is not an "preferred" option for me. I can do it, but i would have to wait until i find enough time to do the whole process. I am in a full time job, so i hope you would understand.

Well this again defeats the purpose of my original question, but thanks mate. I would definitely read the guide if decide to switch to f2fs.
@abhibnl. BTW your encrypted. So the modified TWRP won't work.
How to fix:
Wipe Userdata with Fastboot / fastboot erase UserData
Boot into Twrp modified twrp.
Flash OOS 4.0 flash SuperSU and let it boot
You should be decrypted DO NOT install a boot password since you will be encrypted again.
I haven't rooted my phone again. My only reason to root is to install Adaway to block all ads. With DNS66 and Adguard, I have little incentive to root my stock nougat install.
Edit : I had encryption during 3.2.8 and it carried over to 4.0

Seems like stock recovery is the best way as of now. Seems like I'll have to love without root until someone updates twrp to support encrypted storage.
I haven't updated to Nougat yet, but I looked over Chainfire's SuperSU changelog and its installation script and both of them confirm that from March installing SuperSU prevents forced encryption. Also many guides suggest installing it as way for disabling forced encryption. Of course you have to flash SuperSU just after flashing ROM, before booting the system.

That i already knew mate. But i WANT my storage to remain encrypted. And that's the issue with modified TWRP. You can't enter into recovery on that if your storage is encrypted.

In the same boat as you. I have OOS 3.2.8 encrypted, rooted and TWRP 3.0.2-1.26. I too would like to update but have way to much stuff on my phone to back it all up and restore it. Hope you or someone come's up with a solution. I will be following your thread.
Thanks.
Go to twrp. Press backup. Select only data. Save to PC youre backup for safety..
3.2.8 it's Android 6, 4.0 it's Android 7. Some apps might not work from base to base.
If you want to change to F2FS it will format youre phone, wipe phone full internal memory. If you want to change it back to ext4, same.
Clean flash, full wipe it's always better.

Well, I tried something, waiting on it to finishing booting and see how it went.
I flashed twrp-3.0.2-1.28-oneplus3p version,
Flashed the OnePlus3Oxygen_16_OTA_035_all_1612310359_e10cadfb2af7.zip inside TWRP,
Flashed SR1-SuperSU-v2.79-SR1-20161221223537.zip right after flashing OTA zip.
Its rebooting and says Android is upgrading. Fingers crossed.
EDIT: Its booted and I am on Nougat, didnt lose my data and phone is still encrypted!
Edit: Ended up having issues with settings app locking up. So, I went a different route and its all working great now.
Downloaded the stock recovery image and renamed it to recovery.img
Make sure after you rename it its not named recovery.img.img, If you have show file extensions enabled on your pc you should already see the file extension.
Rebooted to bootloader - adb flash recovery recovery.img
Using the volume keys and power button selected - reboot recovery.
Now in stock recovery - flashed OnePlus3Oxygen_16_OTA_035_all_1612310359_e10cadfb2af7.zip
After rom is done flashing, went right back into bootloader. Did not let my phone reboot to start the OS.
Renamed twrp-3.0.2-1.28-oneplus3p.img to recovery.img
adb flash recovery recover.img
Powered off phone and Manually boot it into recovery by holding Power + Volume Down button.
Phone booted into TWRP
Flashed SR1-SuperSU-v2.79-SR1-20161221223537.zip
Wiped cache / dalvik
Rebooted system from TWRP and waited. System is really smooth now, no issues yet. Been playing with it for awhile now.
During the booting up process it might take a minute and it will reboot twice. Dont get nervous like I did thinking it was going to start bootlooping. It booted just fine. I read in a nother thread that SuperSU is what causes it to boot twice.
So......Now I have OOS 4.0 Nougat, Rooted, Encrypted and everything seems to be working fine.
I'm having lot of difficulty while installing custom ROM
1. mobile shows warning your bootloader is unlocked and dm variety issue
2. it ask password which I didn't set and I have to format user data
3. it shows only 25 GB storage available and mobile do not boot
4. if it boot properly and if I go to twrp OS start from beginning like app optimization and setup screen
pls give the proper instructions to install custom ROM
r u wanting to do OxygenOS or CM14.1 roms
1. Warning messages are normal and will not go away while ur bootloader is unlocked, do not attempt to re lock bootloader u will just brick, there are instructions on how to go about it.

Think you mean "soft brick" locked my bootloader several times always got my phone running again. Ideally tho don't lock bootloader stupid move hahaha. Pain in the ass to fix ?
1. For that, you can sideload oos.
2. Which Rom are you on?
3. Go to TWRP, wipe, advanced-wipe, select internal storage, format it (use ext4, don't fall for f2fs myths). Note: you will loose data, please backup first.
4. Well, you can use titanium backup for easy Backup/Restore.
