Persistent app running in background - Moto Z2 Force Questions & Answers

Running VPN in background and that irritating power notification won't go away and I don't want to block notification from Android system.
I am rooted and new to Oreo and Motorola so what do I need to do to stop that notification?

I only found a way using an app. This one is decent and open source. Luckily in Oreo 8.1 you can hide those notifications natively. So if you're on Tmo or Sprint and feel adventurous check out Aosip, it's 8.1, runs like a champ, and isn't bloated.

I was actually considering that rom. Thanks for the link, the z2 has some really bad bugs in sms that drive me insane so I'm welcoming the change in roms.

Not anything that isn't listed in the bug section, which honestly doesn't affect me much anyway. I'm on TMO so LTE works fine for me, and I think they might have a handle on it for Sprint users. I like the rom, and I'm anxious for an update honestly. I just installed the Pantheon kernel on top of that. Considering that when my phone was stock I had random reboots for no apparent reason, and wifi connectivity drops as well, Aosip solved those issues. I'm quite happy with the whole setup now.

Are you on TMO or Sprint? Did you flash the 27.1 prep zip?

I am tmo and I was already on the 27.1 stock cause I had to flash it cause I lost imei and baseband.
After flashing the aosip zip, it said completed in twrp and then said "no os installed do you want to reboot" and I hit yes thinking worse case I could boot into twrp and start over thinking maybe the aosip was wonky and maybe not showing an os if there was one.
Tbh the phone was giving me hell with numerous things like Bluetooth would refuse to play through the bt headphones and starting the same day, it would not turn off speaker phone on calls.
I am nervous but I really want to flash this but I don't want a brick again either

The prep zip is down towards the bottom of the OP in the Aosip thread, also in post #2 it is a must in order to flash Aosip. If you didn't flash that, regardless of whether you were on stock 27.1 then that is where you went wrong.

Thanks, it actually looks like I missed 2 steps, including the fastboot -w. I've never installed any aosp rooms so I guess I'll chalk this up to a learning experience.

HELP! Installed rom and now earphone doesn't work (or any other roms installed either

I'm not sure what happened but this morning I installed Codename Android's rom since everyone's been speaking so highly of it. I immediately got reboots right after starting. The screen would freeze and then the phone would reboot. I figured there was something wrong so I formatted data/factory reset, formatted cache and even formatted /system and installed it again. No reboots but the earpiece would not work on phone calls (speaker phone does). I also noticed that the screen doesn't turn off when I hold the phone to my face (so the proximity sensor seems to be messed up too). So I installed another rom: Redemption Rom. Same problem. I installed GummyNex, same problem.
I even unrooted and relocked the bootloader and EVEN THEN the earpiece did not work.
I feel like this is a software issue because it happened after installing a rom AND the proximity sensor doesn't work which seems strange for both that and the earpiece to stop working at the same time...
Is there something else that I haven't tried yet? Any suggestions??
I've only had the phone for a couple days so it could easily be a hardware issue I suppose, but I wanted to check if anyone had anything like this happen to them.*
Thanks guys!
Codename Android....if everyone's so highly speaking of it how come I haven't heard of it?
- Which version of the phone you have? CDMA? I'm assuming?
- What kernel?

This is XDA, not Rootzwiki. I googled it. Answer the rest of the questions.
Have you tried flashing another ROM? Flashing stock images provided by Google?
CDMA and stock kernel. I have it completely unrooted and relocked and the issue is still there which makes me think it's less of a software issue. Unless somehow the software issue carried over from the rom?
I tried a few other roms and the issue was still there as well.

And you've checked the obvious that the headphones work on another device correct? Tried another headphone on the phone?
If you fully wiped the phone and tried it with another ROM then it's most likely a hardware problem. And maybe it was a coinicidence that it broke right when you flashed the ROM.
Go into your about phone and tell me what it says for "kernel version"
Yeah I essentially tried everything. Thanks a lot. I was hoping I'd be able to fix it but I guess I have to take a trip back to the Verizon store.
And thanks for responding. I posted this on Rootzwiki and didn't get much help.

Assure you flash stock Google images. Otherwise if they see that you unlocked the bootloader at one point in time they may charge you extra for that.
Check kernel version for me real quick though.

Spring GS3 4.4 ROMs

Hello,
I'm interested in installing a v4.4 (Kitkat) ROM.
I'd like a ROM that is stable with lots of users.
I currently have a v4.3 ROM and have ClockworkMod Recovery on my phone.
Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Brandon

You should try some, what works correctly for one person may not work the same for you. I suggest Philz recovery for flashing kitkat ROMS. It never fails for flashing or restoring backups.

As of now, have a backup ready because most KK roms are having data issues.

I haven't run it myself, was just pointing out where to download for the other user. Not a fan of Slim actually, hated it on a previous phone (different Android build as well), but a lot of users are pretty diehard about it. Personally, I'm all about the LiquidSmooth, with Beanstalk and AICP at the top of the list as well. However, if the lovely @Jessooca recommends, you can 100% rely on that recommendation (OK, 99.99%, little inside joke for her!).

Yeah, there have been lots of issues with the unified builds for the last two or three weeks for the ROMs that have gone with d2lte. The three I mentioned (LS, Beanstalk, and AICP) are favorites of mine right now because of a lack of issues in terms of data connectivity. My personal experience on others, like Carbon and CM11, is that LTE is fine, but they won't connect to 3G no matter what I try. This is an issue because I only have LTE access at my house, which is worthless because I use WiFi at home. At work, or whenever else I'm in town, there's no LTE, so 3G access is a must. I suppose it's a case of "flash it and see if it works" on any given ROM right now.

If you have working data (LTE & 3G) on your current ROM, make sure to make a backup of your APN settings just in case, apparently a lot of the users, on any ROM, who have experienced issues have had to fiddle with their APN settings to get things working again. Doesn't hurt to flash a stock based ROM for this purpose as well, and know how to do a PRL/Profile update on stock based also. There is a really good app on the Play Store called APN Backup and Restore for this purpose, it needs to be in the /system/priv-app file in order to work properly on KitKat just FYI.

Thanks for the info. However, that's my ordeal. Ever since I switched to CM 11 drlte from drspr I get no LTE. It's always on 3G, and I live in a 4G/LTE area. I like the ROM very much but I thought I'm paying for 4G/LTE service and I'm not getting any. Might as well find something that works (at least temporarily), until they sort it out.

In that case I would highly recommend booting up any stock based ROM in order to do an update to your PRL and Profile. Once booted up, open the phone app and dial ##72786#. The phone will do two reboots, and then you will be good to go. Don't touch anything until it has definitely finished the procedure. Not saying that this will enable LTE on CM11, but sometimes users have retained data issues when switching ROMs until they have done this procedure, i.e. another ROM that doesn't have LTE issues may not show LTE connectivity until you update PRL/Profile.

No wifi
I love love love this ROM, it's incredibly fast, I've got the debloated version. But I have no wifi on it. The wifi stays off and when I try to turn it on it flips right back to off again. Any suggestions? I wiped, cache, dalvik, everything before and after and reinstalled once. Will reinstall again.
I'm using TWRP vs CWM-would that make a difference?

I had tried several, but wipe completely each time. It might've been one of the Lollipops right before. I wondered if it had anything to do with the kernal? I don't know much about that aspect of it.

Yes kernel controls hardware related things including wifi if I'm not mistaken. Which kernel are you using? The stock kernel included with the rom or a custom kernel?

I didn't ever specifically change kernels (if that's possible). I just installed 4 or 5 different ROMs over the course of the past few wks to see which I liked. I made back ups of my original stock/rooted ROM and several that I liked. I've got SlimKat ROM on here now, would it do any good for me to go into settings and see which kernel it is? Probably not, I suspect.

Ok cool thanks. Really not sure what the wifi issue on your setup might be. Works fine here and for other users as far as I see. I did a quick Google searche and the top solutions seem to be a factory reset, the "wifi fixer" app in the Play Store, or possibly trying different settings/channels/reboot on your router. If nothing works, then it might be because something got corrupted in the base over time by flashing different TW/AOSP ROMs, in which case it might be worthwhile to Odin stock firmware from sammobile and then install this rom and test. Might be more hassle for you than it's worth (especially if your other ROMs already work fine), but just trying to provide options lol. You could also try Regular instead of Debloated to see if there is any difference in wifi for you there.

I appreciate your input very much! I love this rom. I've got it installed again messing around with it while the Regular version is downloading. (I'm bestowed with slow rural internet). I'll let you know if Regular works better. It's probably going to bug me enough as to why it doesn't work that I'll go to the trouble of going back to stock, re-downloading and trying it fresh

Enable Android Encryption
Has anyone been able to successfully enable android encryption using this rom? I tried with the Deodexed version, safe boot, turning off SuperSU and haven't been able to get it to start encrypting properly. I need it since I have policy looking for encrypted state before I can allow mail to be made available.
Many thanks in advance!

wifi won't turn on
Hi, I've flashed both the regular version and the debloated version on my N5110 after clean wipes.
The wifi will not turn on in either case.
I've done factory resets from within settings.
Any ideas?
I've read the thread, the Q&A thread, and done a google search to no avail....
I'm coming from stock 4.2.2 (rooted and unlocked of course) where everything worked... it just seemed to have a pretty short battery life.
I've reinstalled the nandroid backup and wifi still works there.
I'd really like to try this.
Thanks for your hard work as a developer by the way

Not sure...Works fine here but I saw another user report this a while back. The others said all working fine so I'm assuming something may have got corrupted on your setup along the way. Perhaps you can try using odin to flash the latest stock firmware for your device from sammobile.com, then try installing twrp through odin and finally my rom through twrp. Best way to eliminate variables and start fresh

Thanks for confirming! Yes flashing different roms can corrupt system files so a fresh odin install is always a good way to start clean. No issues here with the tablet shutting down..could possibly be due to a rogue app conflicting with something or an xposed module. As for battery life I agree. Not worse than stock but not better either. The built-in battery is now also probably less efficient than it used to be, as they all do over time. Sammy should have put a bigger battery in this tablet!

Hello sefrcoko
my Note N5110 currently has the stock fw 4.2.2.
Once I have root and custom recovery, can I directly flash your rom?
Or I have to flash the stock fw 4.4.2 before your rom?
Thanks a lot
Bye

Hold the power and volume up buttons together for over 30 seconds, maybe longer, and it should force it to power down.
Then if you haven't already, Find problem apps by rebooting to safe mode - this can be a lifesaver and keep you from having to do a restore to 100% complete stock or even from having to do a factory reset. This will deactivate all Magisk modules, and they'll remain deactivated even after you boot normally after briefly booting to safe mode. You can reenable the Magisk modules as you wish to try to narrow down the problem if it was caused by a Magisk module. This can even get things working again after a Magisk Module wasn't finished installing and potentially causing a bootloop.
Good luck, let us know how you did. I had no trouble updating although at the moment I happen to be on the stock kernel - I don't plan on remaining stock and have previously updated at least one custom kernel.
Thnks Man, already fixed.....Kiriaskura is the problem....gonna leave the kernel alone for now

CleanSlate worked well for me when I've been using a custom kernel. I know Kiriaskura is based on CleanSlate, but there are differences.
Glad you got it fixed.
@cmh714 I was looking at the Kiriaskura thread's last page of posts and someone mentioned Magisk Canary. Is that what you were on? For what it's worth, maybe you have some specific reason to still be on Canary, but once the Android 12-compatible Stable release came out, I switched over to Stable too, and I recommend doing the same. Just a suggestion, though.

But that's no fun
But seriously, that is probably wise. I've stayed on Canary to make it easier if Google decides to play with us again like they did in December with their load fstab shenanigans and of course earlier with their vbmeta shenanigans. Those were fixed quickly in Canary but took a while to make it to Stable. But with that comes the cons, of course, as evidence by today. But Stable is good advice.
On a side note, I never received the corrupted message like others did when updating Magisk while on Kirisakura today. However, I still have verity and verification disabled. Hmmm.... makes you wonder

Same happened to me, but can't get rid of corrupt system at boot...
I'm in the same boat, tomorrow I'm going to fully wipe and see if it go's away. That's the only thing I've seen that gets rid of that warning.

Same here atm....will see if this months update (once it arrives) fixes things.....dont want to wipe but boy the message is a PITA!
I have the weird problem of no longer being able to modify the services.jar since the Magisk update.... I remove the navbar by modifying it. I can't change the size either. Weird that a Magisk update would hinder that.

Flash an old (I did Feb .003 one.) boot.img, boot, then reboot and flash the current patched boot.img. Should get rid of it.
(don't forget direct install in magisk manager afterwards)
I tried with the newest boot.img, but it didnt work.

Even more weird, I tried going back to an earlier version and the problem persisted. Bootloop. It doesn't bootloop until I unlock my phone though.
Tried to Fastboot flash boot boot.img with the mid-Feb release. I am still getting "Your device is corrupt". Going to "flash-nowipe"
Edit: While running flash-nowipe, got the same "device is corrupt" message. Thankfully when I hit resume the device went into fastbootd and is getting the image. Still getting device corrupt, but device booted and apps are still intack.
Rolled back Magisk to 24.3.10 with Kiris kernel 1.8.4. Everything is working fine, but still get the corrupt device message. Requires an extra "resume" when rebooting.
Hopefully tomorrow we will get the March release and an updated Magisk which make the problem go away. Hoping!

Question Mobile data disconnects every 25 seconds

Hello
I have a issue on my phone
I rooted my phone with magisk a few days ago and now it has a large issue.
Every 25 seconds, the mobile data shows a cross with a circle. This issue happens about 10 seconds. Then it returns to normal. And then the same thing happens.
It showed IMEI unavailable in my phone settings. Then I typed "chmod 550 NVD_IMEI" and then the issue began.
How do I fix it
Video is down below:
I use the SM-A325F with Android 11
Can I just fix it by flashing the pit file?
Your browser is not able to display this video.
i am apparently facing the same problem on the newest firmware which is A325FXXU2BVG3. I switched to a GSI because this problem was getting on my nerves. this problem doesnt exist in GSI so its a bug with samsung's own firmware.

Is the 25 seconds mobile data issue also happening to you? Or does it happen permanently?

my mobile data only dies when i hit it with a load e.g. a speed test. and sometimes it dies randomly. its not permanent. calling works fine. when i hit it with a load like loading images the service just goes away permanently for 5 seconds and then comes back. and this keeps repeating.

i am sorry i have no such expirience. i dont know what will happen. i am currently just using crdroid 8.8 bgN since that fixes my issue. i have accidently erased my imei before but i restored it by deleting my efs partition then factory resetting (WONT RECOMMEND AT ALL. IF YOU DO THIS DO AT YOUR OWN RISK AND BACKUP THE EFS PARTITION)

Nand erase also didnt work, idk what i should do to fix the issue. The thing is if i call someone, i only can call them for 25 seconds before the mobile data disconnects which is stupid.

Hey I just noticed gaming performance on crdroid is terrible for this phone. I switched to arrow OS. And God demn.. ITS SMOOTH. THE UI ITSELF IS SMOOTH I have yet to check gaming performance. The customization feature ain't that much but this is amazing. If you want to get a lil bit smoother expirience then switch to this GSi. The download link is same as above Just go to files tab AUG-v415 arrow os.

Oh yeah I am downloading a very heavy game. It will probs take a lot of time (thanks internet) so I'll update here once I test it out. otherwise I'll go back since crdroid had more customization and it also had a game centre that showed fps, changed performance mode and more.

Hey I am back. Sorry for the wait. I didn't test the big game it didn't download yet. But I did test COD Mobile and it works great. Since my phone is rooted I installed gl tools and faked my device unlocking alot of graphics settings. I set all of em to high and the performance is good. I haven't tested with genshin tho. The only thing that makes me sad is that this GSi doesn't come with game space which is included in crdroid. Even tho it's supposed to come with latest versions of arrow os. Although I guess you could install a port and get away with it. Anywho I guess you can test It out for yourself. I'll install a fps counter to check for fps lag too. also I don't know about fingerprint. MY PHONE'S SENSOR IS PHYSICALLY BROKEN so I can't tell since in Samsung stock firmware it doesn't work sooo. Another thing again that this ROM doesn't come with face recognition although I installed LSposed and then installed a module to fix it. Works just like crdroid. Soooooo if you want it tell me and I'll post the links along with instructions.
